The Striking Calamity -

Ayah 101:2
مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
مَا
mā
What
ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
l-qāriʿatu
(is) the Striking Calamity
What is the Striking Calamity?

101:3
Ayah 101:3
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
وَمَآ
wamā
And what
أَدْرَىٰكَ
adrāka
will make you know
مَا
mā
what
ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
l-qāriʿatu
(is) the Striking Calamity
And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

101:4
Ayah 101:4
يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ
يَوْمَ
yawma
(The) Day
يَكُونُ
yakūnu
will be
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsu
the mankind
كَٱلْفَرَاشِ
kal-farāshi
like moths
ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ
l-mabthūthi
scattered
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,1

101:5
Ayah 101:5
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ
وَتَكُونُ
watakūnu
And will be
ٱلْجِبَالُ
l-jibālu
the mountains
كَٱلْعِهْنِ
kal-ʿih'ni
like wool
ٱلْمَنفُوشِ
l-manfūshi
fluffed up
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.1

101:6
Ayah 101:6
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
فَأَمَّا
fa-ammā
Then as for
مَن
man
(him) whose
ثَقُلَتْ
thaqulat
(are) heavy
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
mawāzīnuhu
his scales
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],

101:7
Ayah 101:7
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
فَهُوَ
fahuwa
Then he
فِى
fī
(will be) in
عِيشَةٍ
ʿīshatin
a life
رَّاضِيَةٍ
rāḍiyatin
pleasant
He will be in a pleasant life.

101:8
Ayah 101:8
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
وَأَمَّا
wa-ammā
But as for
مَنْ
man
(him) whose
خَفَّتْ
khaffat
(are) light
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
mawāzīnuhu
his scales
But as for one whose scales are light,

101:9
Ayah 101:9
فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ
فَأُمُّهُۥ
fa-ummuhu
His abode
هَاوِيَةٌ
hāwiyatun
(will be the) Pit
His refuge1 will be an abyss.2

101:10
Ayah 101:10
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ
وَمَآ
wamā
And what
أَدْرَىٰكَ
adrāka
will make you know
مَا
mā
what
هِيَهْ
hiyah
it is
And what can make you know what that is?

101:11
Ayah 101:11
نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ
نَارٌ
nārun
A Fire
حَامِيَةٌۢ
ḥāmiyatun
intensely hot
It is a Fire, intensely hot.
