14:1
Ayah 14:1
الٓر ۚ كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَيْكَ لِتُخْرِجَ ٱلنَّاسَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ
الٓر
alif-lam-ra
Alif Laam Ra
كِتَـٰبٌ
kitābun
A Book
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhu
which We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
لِتُخْرِجَ
litukh'rija
so that you may bring out
ٱلنَّاسَ
l-nāsa
the mankind
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ
l-ẓulumāti
the darkness[es]
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلنُّورِ
l-nūri
the light
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
(of) their Lord
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
صِرَٰطِ
ṣirāṭi
the Path
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi
(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَمِيدِ
l-ḥamīdi
the Praiseworthy
Alif, Lām, Rā.1 [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy -

14:2
Ayah 14:2
ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَوَيْلٌ لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One
لَهُۥ
lahu
to Him (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَوَيْلٌ
wawaylun
And woe
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīna
to the disbelievers
مِنْ
min
from
عَذَابٍ
ʿadhābin
the punishment
شَدِيدٍ
shadīdin
severe
Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe [i.e., destruction] to the disbelievers from a severe punishment -

14:3
Ayah 14:3
ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَحِبُّونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا عَلَى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
يَسْتَحِبُّونَ
yastaḥibbūna
love more
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
l-ḥayata
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
عَلَى
ʿalā
than
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
وَيَصُدُّونَ
wayaṣuddūna
and hinder
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) Path
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
وَيَبْغُونَهَا
wayabghūnahā
and seek in it
عِوَجًا
ʿiwajan
crookedness
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
those
فِى
[in]
ضَلَـٰلٍۭ
ḍalālin
(are) far astray
بَعِيدٍ
baʿīdin
(are) far astray
The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. Those are in extreme error.

14:4
Ayah 14:4
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا بِلِسَانِ قَوْمِهِۦ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمْ ۖ فَيُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
وَمَآ
wamā
And not
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
We sent
مِن
min
any
رَّسُولٍ
rasūlin
Messenger
إِلَّا
illā
except
بِلِسَانِ
bilisāni
with the language
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihi
(of) his people
لِيُبَيِّنَ
liyubayyina
so that he might make clear
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
فَيُضِلُّ
fayuḍillu
Then Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Then Allah lets go astray
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَيَهْدِى
wayahdī
and guides
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ
l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and Allāh sends astray [thereby] whom He wills1 and guides whom He wills. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

14:5
Ayah 14:5
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ أَنْ أَخْرِجْ قَوْمَكَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ وَذَكِّرْهُم بِأَيَّىٰمِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
We sent
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ
biāyātinā
with Our Signs
أَنْ
an
that
أَخْرِجْ
akhrij
Bring out
قَوْمَكَ
qawmaka
your people
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ
l-ẓulumāti
the darkness[es]
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلنُّورِ
l-nūri
the light
وَذَكِّرْهُم
wadhakkir'hum
And remind them
بِأَيَّىٰمِ
bi-ayyāmi
of the days
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ
laāyātin
surely (are) the signs
لِّكُلِّ
likulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍ
ṣabbārin
patient
شَكُورٍ
shakūrin
and thankful
And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, [saying], "Bring out your people from darknesses into the light and remind them of the days1 of Allāh." Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

14:6
Ayah 14:6
وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ أَنجَىٰكُم مِّنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوٓءَ ٱلْعَذَابِ وَيُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكُم بَلَآءٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قَالَ
qāla
said
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
لِقَوْمِهِ
liqawmihi
to his people
ٱذْكُرُوا۟
udh'kurū
Remember
نِعْمَةَ
niʿ'mata
(the) Favor of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(the) Favor of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
upon you
إِذْ
idh
when
أَنجَىٰكُم
anjākum
He saved you
مِّنْ
min
from
ءَالِ
āli
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
يَسُومُونَكُمْ
yasūmūnakum
they were afflicting you
سُوٓءَ
sūa
(with) evil
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi
torment
وَيُذَبِّحُونَ
wayudhabbiḥūna
and were slaughtering
أَبْنَآءَكُمْ
abnāakum
your sons
وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ
wayastaḥyūna
and letting live
نِسَآءَكُمْ
nisāakum
your women
وَفِى
wafī
And in
ذَٰلِكُم
dhālikum
that
بَلَآءٌ
balāon
(was) a trial
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikum
your Lord
عَظِيمٌ
ʿaẓīmun
great
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to his people, "Remember the favor of Allāh upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

14:7
Ayah 14:7
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِى لَشَدِيدٌ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
تَأَذَّنَ
ta-adhana
proclaimed
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
your Lord
لَئِن
la-in
If
شَكَرْتُمْ
shakartum
you are thankful
لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ
la-azīdannakum
surely I will increase you
وَلَئِن
wala-in
but if
كَفَرْتُمْ
kafartum
you are ungrateful
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
عَذَابِى
ʿadhābī
My punishment
لَشَدِيدٌ
lashadīdun
(is) surely severe
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"

14:8
Ayah 14:8
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِن تَكْفُرُوٓا۟ أَنتُمْ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَنِىٌّ حَمِيدٌ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
Musa
إِن
in
If
تَكْفُرُوٓا۟
takfurū
you disbelieve
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
وَمَن
waman
and whoever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
جَمِيعًا
jamīʿan
all
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَغَنِىٌّ
laghaniyyun
certainly (is) Free of need
حَمِيدٌ
ḥamīdun
Praiseworthy
And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy."

14:9
Ayah 14:9
أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ ۛ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۛ لَا يَعْلَمُهُمْ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۚ جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَرَدُّوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فِىٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كَفَرْنَا بِمَآ أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَنَآ إِلَيْهِ مُرِيبٍ
أَلَمْ
alam
Has not
يَأْتِكُمْ
yatikum
come to you
نَبَؤُا۟
naba-u
(the) news
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
مِن
min
(were) before you
قَبْلِكُمْ
qablikum
(were) before you
قَوْمِ
qawmi
the people
نُوحٍ
nūḥin
of Nuh
وَعَادٍ
waʿādin
and Aad
وَثَمُودَ
wathamūda
and Thamud
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
and those who
مِنۢ
min
(were) after them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihim
(were) after them
لَا
None
يَعْلَمُهُمْ
yaʿlamuhum
knows them
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
جَآءَتْهُمْ
jāathum
Came to them
رُسُلُهُم
rusuluhum
their Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَرَدُّوٓا۟
faraddū
but they returned
أَيْدِيَهُمْ
aydiyahum
their hands
فِىٓ
in
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ
afwāhihim
their mouths
وَقَالُوٓا۟
waqālū
and they said
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed we
كَفَرْنَا
kafarnā
[we] disbelieve
بِمَآ
bimā
in what
أُرْسِلْتُم
ur'sil'tum
you have been sent
بِهِۦ
bihi
with [it]
وَإِنَّا
wa-innā
and indeed, we
لَفِى
lafī
(are) surely in
شَكٍّ
shakkin
doubt
مِّمَّا
mimmā
about what
تَدْعُونَنَآ
tadʿūnanā
you invite us
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to it
مُرِيبٍ
murībin
suspicious
Has there not reached you the news of those before you - the people of Noah and ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them? No one knows them [i.e., their number] but Allāh. Their messengers brought them clear proofs, but they returned their hands to their mouths1 and said, "Indeed, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are, about that to which you invite us, in disquieting doubt."

14:10
Ayah 14:10
۞ قَالَتْ رُسُلُهُمْ أَفِى ٱللَّهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِيَغْفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا فَأْتُونَا بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
قَالَتْ
qālat
Said
رُسُلُهُمْ
rusuluhum
their Messengers
أَفِى
afī
Can (there) be about
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
شَكٌّ
shakkun
any doubt
فَاطِرِ
fāṭiri
(the) Creator
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
يَدْعُوكُمْ
yadʿūkum
He invites you
لِيَغْفِرَ
liyaghfira
so that He may forgive
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّن
min
[of]
ذُنُوبِكُمْ
dhunūbikum
your sins
وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ
wayu-akhirakum
and give you respite
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
for
أَجَلٍ
ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّى
musamman
appointed
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
They said
إِنْ
in
Not
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
إِلَّا
illā
(are) but
بَشَرٌ
basharun
a human
مِّثْلُنَا
mith'lunā
like us
تُرِيدُونَ
turīdūna
you wish
أَن
an
to
تَصُدُّونَا
taṣuddūnā
hinder us
عَمَّا
ʿammā
from what
كَانَ
kāna
used to
يَعْبُدُ
yaʿbudu
worship
ءَابَآؤُنَا
ābāunā
our forefathers
فَأْتُونَا
fatūnā
So bring us
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ
bisul'ṭānin
an authority
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
clear
Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."

14:11
Ayah 14:11
قَالَتْ لَهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ إِن نَّحْنُ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَمُنُّ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ لَنَآ أَن نَّأْتِيَكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
قَالَتْ
qālat
Said
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
رُسُلُهُمْ
rusuluhum
their Messengers
إِن
in
Not
نَّحْنُ
naḥnu
we (are)
إِلَّا
illā
but
بَشَرٌ
basharun
a human
مِّثْلُكُمْ
mith'lukum
like you
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
يَمُنُّ
yamunnu
bestows His Grace
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِهِۦ
ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَانَ
kāna
is
لَنَآ
lanā
for us
أَن
an
that
نَّأْتِيَكُم
natiyakum
we bring you
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ
bisul'ṭānin
an authority
إِلَّا
illā
except
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'ni
by the permission of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
by the permission of Allah
وَعَلَى
waʿalā
And upon
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ
falyatawakkali
so let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
l-mu'minūna
the believers
Their messengers said to them, "We are only men like you, but Allāh confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you evidence except by permission of Allāh. And upon Allāh let the believers rely.

14:12
Ayah 14:12
وَمَا لَنَآ أَلَّا نَتَوَكَّلَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَقَدْ هَدَىٰنَا سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ عَلَىٰ مَآ ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ
وَمَا
wamā
And what
لَنَآ
lanā
(is) for us
أَلَّا
allā
that not
نَتَوَكَّلَ
natawakkala
we put our trust
عَلَى
ʿalā
upon
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
وَقَدْ
waqad
while certainly
هَدَىٰنَا
hadānā
He has guided us
سُبُلَنَا
subulanā
to our ways
وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ
walanaṣbiranna
And surely we will bear with patience
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
مَآ
what
ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا
ādhaytumūnā
harm you may cause us
وَعَلَى
waʿalā
And upon
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ
falyatawakkali
so let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ
l-mutawakilūna
the ones who put (their) trust
And why should we not rely upon Allāh while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allāh let those who would rely [indeed] rely."

14:13
Ayah 14:13
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِرُسُلِهِمْ لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِنَآ أَوْ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِى مِلَّتِنَا ۖ فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ لَنُهْلِكَنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieved
لِرُسُلِهِمْ
lirusulihim
to their Messengers
لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُم
lanukh'rijannakum
Surely we will drive you out
مِّنْ
min
of
أَرْضِنَآ
arḍinā
our land
أَوْ
aw
or
لَتَعُودُنَّ
lataʿūdunna
surely you should return
فِى
to
مِلَّتِنَا
millatinā
our religion
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ
fa-awḥā
So inspired
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhim
to them
رَبُّهُمْ
rabbuhum
their Lord
لَنُهْلِكَنَّ
lanuh'likanna
We will surely destroy
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion." So their Lord inspired to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.

14:14
Ayah 14:14
وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامِى وَخَافَ وَعِيدِ
وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُ
walanus'kinannakumu
And surely We will make you dwell
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
(in) the land
مِنۢ
min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihim
after them
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
لِمَنْ
liman
(is) for whoever
خَافَ
khāfa
fears
مَقَامِى
maqāmī
standing before Me
وَخَافَ
wakhāfa
and fears
وَعِيدِ
waʿīdi
My Threat
And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them. That is for he who fears My position1 and fears My threat."

14:15
Ayah 14:15
وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟ وَخَابَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ
وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟
wa-is'taftaḥū
And they sought victory
وَخَابَ

كُلُّ
kullu

جَبَّارٍ
jabbārin
tyrant
عَنِيدٍ
ʿanīdin
obstinate
And they requested decision [i.e., victory from Allāh], and disappointed, [therefore], was every obstinate tyrant.

14:16
Ayah 14:16
مِّن وَرَآئِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ وَيُسْقَىٰ مِن مَّآءٍ صَدِيدٍ
مِّن
min

وَرَآئِهِۦ
warāihi
Ahead
جَهَنَّمُ
jahannamu
(is) Hell
وَيُسْقَىٰ
wayus'qā
and he will be made to drink
مِن
min
of
مَّآءٍ
māin
water
صَدِيدٍ
ṣadīdin
purulent
Before him1 is Hell, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.2

14:17
Ayah 14:17
يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُسِيغُهُۥ وَيَأْتِيهِ ٱلْمَوْتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَيِّتٍ ۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِۦ عَذَابٌ غَلِيظٌ
يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ
yatajarraʿuhu
He will sip it
وَلَا
walā
but not
يَكَادُ
yakādu
he will be near
يُسِيغُهُۥ
yusīghuhu
(to) swallowing it
وَيَأْتِيهِ
wayatīhi
And will come to him
ٱلْمَوْتُ
l-mawtu
the death
مِن
min
from
كُلِّ
kulli
every
مَكَانٍ
makānin
side
وَمَا
wamā
but not
هُوَ
huwa
he
بِمَيِّتٍ
bimayyitin
will die
وَمِن
wamin
And ahead of him
وَرَآئِهِۦ
warāihi
And ahead of him
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
غَلِيظٌ
ghalīẓun
harsh
He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.

14:18
Ayah 14:18
مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ كَرَمَادٍ ٱشْتَدَّتْ بِهِ ٱلرِّيحُ فِى يَوْمٍ عَاصِفٍ ۖ لَّا يَقْدِرُونَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ ٱلْبَعِيدُ
مَّثَلُ
mathalu
(The) example
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
بِرَبِّهِمْ
birabbihim
in their Lord
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ
aʿmāluhum
their deeds
كَرَمَادٍ
karamādin
(are) like ashes
ٱشْتَدَّتْ
ish'taddat
blows furiously
بِهِ
bihi
on it
ٱلرِّيحُ
l-rīḥu
the wind
فِى
in
يَوْمٍ
yawmin
a day
عَاصِفٍ
ʿāṣifin
stormy
لَّا
No
يَقْدِرُونَ
yaqdirūna
control (they have)
مِمَّا
mimmā
of what
كَسَبُوا۟
kasabū
they have earned
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
شَىْءٍ
shayin
anything
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
هُوَ
huwa
[it]
ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ
l-ḍalālu
(is) the straying
ٱلْبَعِيدُ
l-baʿīdu
far
The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is [that] their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day; they are unable [to keep] from what they earned a [single] thing. That is what is extreme error.

14:19
Ayah 14:19
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَأْتِ بِخَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَ
tara
you see
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍa
and the earth
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
إِن
in
If
يَشَأْ
yasha
He wills
يُذْهِبْكُمْ
yudh'hib'kum
He can remove you
وَيَأْتِ
wayati
and bring
بِخَلْقٍ
bikhalqin
a creation
جَدِيدٍ
jadīdin
new
Have you not seen [i.e., considered] that Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can do away with you and produce a new creation.

14:20
Ayah 14:20
وَمَا ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ بِعَزِيزٍ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
(is) that
عَلَى
ʿalā
on
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
بِعَزِيزٍ
biʿazīzin
great
And that is not difficult for Allāh.

14:21
Ayah 14:21
وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا فَقَالَ ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعًا فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّغْنُونَ عَنَّا مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَيْنَـٰكُمْ ۖ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَآ أَجَزِعْنَآ أَمْ صَبَرْنَا مَا لَنَا مِن مَّحِيصٍ
وَبَرَزُوا۟
wabarazū
And they will come forth
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
before Allah
جَمِيعًا
jamīʿan
all together
فَقَالَ
faqāla
then will say
ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟
l-ḍuʿafāu
the weak
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟
is'takbarū
were arrogant
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed we
كُنَّا
kunnā
we were
لَكُمْ
lakum
your
تَبَعًا
tabaʿan
followers
فَهَلْ
fahal
so can
أَنتُم
antum
you (be)
مُّغْنُونَ
mugh'nūna
the one who avails
عَنَّا
ʿannā
us
مِنْ
min
from
عَذَابِ
ʿadhābi
(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
مِن
min
anything
شَىْءٍ
shayin
anything
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They will say
لَوْ
law
If
هَدَىٰنَا
hadānā
Allah had guided us
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah had guided us
لَهَدَيْنَـٰكُمْ
lahadaynākum
surely we would have guided you
سَوَآءٌ
sawāon
(It is) same
عَلَيْنَآ
ʿalaynā
for us
أَجَزِعْنَآ
ajaziʿ'nā
whether we show intolerance
أَمْ
am
or
صَبَرْنَا
ṣabarnā
we are patient
مَا
not
لَنَا
lanā
(is) for us
مِن
min
any
مَّحِيصٍ
maḥīṣin
place of escape
And they will come out [for judgement] before Allāh all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allāh?" They will say, "If Allāh had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."

14:22
Ayah 14:22
وَقَالَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لَمَّا قُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَعَدَكُمْ وَعْدَ ٱلْحَقِّ وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِىَ عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍ إِلَّآ أَن دَعَوْتُكُمْ فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْ لِى ۖ فَلَا تَلُومُونِى وَلُومُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُم ۖ مَّآ أَنَا۠ بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُصْرِخِىَّ ۖ إِنِّى كَفَرْتُ بِمَآ أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ مِن قَبْلُ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And will say
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan
لَمَّا
lammā
when
قُضِىَ
quḍiya
has been decided
ٱلْأَمْرُ
l-amru
the matter
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
وَعَدَكُمْ
waʿadakum
promised you
وَعْدَ
waʿda
a promise
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi
(of) truth
وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ
wawaʿadttukum
And I promised you
فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ
fa-akhlaftukum
but I betrayed you
وَمَا
wamā
But not
كَانَ
kāna
I had
لِىَ
liya
I had
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykum
over you
مِّن
min
any
سُلْطَـٰنٍ
sul'ṭānin
authority
إِلَّآ
illā
except
أَن
an
that
دَعَوْتُكُمْ
daʿawtukum
I invited you
فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْ
fa-is'tajabtum
and you responded
لِى
to me
فَلَا
falā
So (do) not
تَلُومُونِى
talūmūnī
blame me
وَلُومُوٓا۟
walūmū
but blame
أَنفُسَكُم
anfusakum
yourselves
مَّآ
Not
أَنَا۠
anā
(can) I
بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ
bimuṣ'rikhikum
(be) your helper
وَمَآ
wamā
and not
أَنتُم
antum
you (can)
بِمُصْرِخِىَّ
bimuṣ'rikhiyya
(be) my helper
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
كَفَرْتُ
kafartu
deny
بِمَآ
bimā
[of what]
أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ
ashraktumūni
your association of me (with Allah)
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
alīmun
painful
And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, "Indeed, Allāh had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with Allāh] before.1 Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment."

14:23
Ayah 14:23
وَأُدْخِلَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ ۖ تَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيهَا سَلَـٰمٌ
وَأُدْخِلَ
wa-ud'khila
And will be admitted
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍ
jannātin
(to) Gardens
تَجْرِى
tajrī
flows
مِن
min
from
تَحْتِهَا
taḥtihā
underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāru
the rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīna
(will) abide forever
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
(of) their Lord
تَحِيَّتُهُمْ
taḥiyyatuhum
their greetings
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
(will be) peace
And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace!"

14:24
Ayah 14:24
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً كَشَجَرَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ أَصْلُهَا ثَابِتٌ وَفَرْعُهَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَ
tara
you see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
ضَرَبَ
ḍaraba
Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah sets forth
مَثَلًا
mathalan
the example
كَلِمَةً
kalimatan
a word
طَيِّبَةً
ṭayyibatan
good
كَشَجَرَةٍ
kashajaratin
(is) like a tree
طَيِّبَةٍ
ṭayyibatin
good
أَصْلُهَا
aṣluhā
its root
ثَابِتٌ
thābitun
(is) firm
وَفَرْعُهَا
wafarʿuhā
and its branches
فِى
(are) in
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
Have you not considered how Allāh presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?

14:25
Ayah 14:25
تُؤْتِىٓ أُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِينٍۭ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهَا ۗ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
تُؤْتِىٓ
tu'tī
Giving
أُكُلَهَا
ukulahā
its fruit
كُلَّ
kulla
all
حِينٍۭ
ḥīnin
time
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهَا
rabbihā
of its Lord
وَيَضْرِبُ
wayaḍribu
And Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
And Allah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَالَ
l-amthāla
the examples
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsi
for mankind
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūna
remember
It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allāh presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.

14:26
Ayah 14:26
وَمَثَلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ ٱجْتُثَّتْ مِن فَوْقِ ٱلْأَرْضِ مَا لَهَا مِن قَرَارٍ
وَمَثَلُ
wamathalu
And (the) example
كَلِمَةٍ
kalimatin
(of) a word
خَبِيثَةٍ
khabīthatin
evil
كَشَجَرَةٍ
kashajaratin
(is) like a tree
خَبِيثَةٍ
khabīthatin
evil
ٱجْتُثَّتْ
uj'tuthat
uprooted
مِن
min
from
فَوْقِ
fawqi
the surface
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
(of) the earth
مَا
not
لَهَا
lahā
for it
مِن
min
(is) any
قَرَارٍ
qarārin
stability
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.

14:27
Ayah 14:27
يُثَبِّتُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلْقَوْلِ ٱلثَّابِتِ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَفِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَيُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ۚ وَيَفْعَلُ ٱللَّهُ مَا يَشَآءُ
يُثَبِّتُ
yuthabbitu
Allah keeps firm
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah keeps firm
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
بِٱلْقَوْلِ
bil-qawli
with the firm word
ٱلثَّابِتِ
l-thābiti
with the firm word
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَفِى
wafī
and in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
وَيُضِلُّ
wayuḍillu
And Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
And Allah lets go astray
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
وَيَفْعَلُ
wayafʿalu
And Allah does
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
And Allah does
مَا
what
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
Allāh keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word,1 in worldly life and in the Hereafter.2 And Allāh sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allāh does what He wills.

14:28
Ayah 14:28
۞ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ بَدَّلُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ كُفْرًا وَأَحَلُّوا۟ قَوْمَهُمْ دَارَ ٱلْبَوَارِ
أَلَمْ
alam
Have not
تَرَ
tara
you seen
إِلَى
ilā
[to]
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
بَدَّلُوا۟
baddalū
(have) changed
نِعْمَتَ
niʿ'mata
(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
كُفْرًا
kuf'ran
(for) disbelief
وَأَحَلُّوا۟
wa-aḥallū
and they led
قَوْمَهُمْ
qawmahum
their people
دَارَ
dāra
(to the) house
ٱلْبَوَارِ
l-bawāri
(of) destruction
Have you not considered those who exchanged the favor of Allāh for disbelief1 and settled their people [in] the home of ruin?

14:29
Ayah 14:29
جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْقَرَارُ
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
Hell
يَصْلَوْنَهَا
yaṣlawnahā
(in) it they will burn
وَبِئْسَ
wabi'sa
and a wretched
ٱلْقَرَارُ
l-qarāru
place to settle
[It is] Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the settlement.

14:30
Ayah 14:30
وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ أَندَادًا لِّيُضِلُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ ۗ قُلْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ فَإِنَّ مَصِيرَكُمْ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ
وَجَعَلُوا۟
wajaʿalū
And they set up
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
to Allah
أَندَادًا
andādan
equals
لِّيُضِلُّوا۟
liyuḍillū
so that they mislead
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِهِۦ
sabīlihi
His Path
قُلْ
qul
Say
تَمَتَّعُوا۟
tamattaʿū
Enjoy
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
but indeed
مَصِيرَكُمْ
maṣīrakum
your destination
إِلَى
ilā
(is) to
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
And they have attributed to Allāh equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy yourselves, for indeed, your destination is the Fire."

14:31
Ayah 14:31
قُل لِّعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ يَوْمٌ لَّا بَيْعٌ فِيهِ وَلَا خِلَـٰلٌ
قُل
qul
Say
لِّعِبَادِىَ
liʿibādiya
to My slaves
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
يُقِيمُوا۟
yuqīmū
(to) establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalata
the prayers
وَيُنفِقُوا۟
wayunfiqū
and (to) spend
مِمَّا
mimmā
from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ
razaqnāhum
We have provided them
سِرًّا
sirran
secretly
وَعَلَانِيَةً
waʿalāniyatan
and publicly
مِّن
min
before
قَبْلِ
qabli
before
أَن
an
[that]
يَأْتِىَ
yatiya
comes
يَوْمٌ
yawmun
a Day
لَّا
not
بَيْعٌ
bayʿun
any trade
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
وَلَا
walā
and not
خِلَـٰلٌ
khilālun
any friendship
[O Muḥammad], tell My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange [i.e., ransom], nor any friendships.

14:32
Ayah 14:32
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ رِزْقًا لَّكُمْ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلْفُلْكَ لِتَجْرِىَ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍa
and the earth
وَأَنزَلَ
wa-anzala
and sent down
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
مَآءً
māan
water
فَأَخْرَجَ
fa-akhraja
then brought forth
بِهِۦ
bihi
from it
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
l-thamarāti
the fruits
رِزْقًا
riz'qan
(as) a provision
لَّكُمْ
lakum
for you
وَسَخَّرَ
wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْفُلْكَ
l-ful'ka
the ships
لِتَجْرِىَ
litajriya
so that they may sail
فِى
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
بِأَمْرِهِۦ
bi-amrihi
by His command
وَسَخَّرَ
wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ
l-anhāra
the rivers
It is Allāh who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you and subjected for you1 the ships to sail through the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers.

14:33
Ayah 14:33
وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ دَآئِبَيْنِ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ
وَسَخَّرَ
wasakhara
And He subjected
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلشَّمْسَ
l-shamsa
the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ
wal-qamara
and the moon
دَآئِبَيْنِ
dāibayni
both constantly pursuing their courses
وَسَخَّرَ
wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-layla
the night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
wal-nahāra
and the day
And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.

14:34
Ayah 14:34
وَءَاتَىٰكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَظَلُومٌ كَفَّارٌ
وَءَاتَىٰكُم
waātākum
And He gave you
مِّن
min
of
كُلِّ
kulli
all
مَا
what
سَأَلْتُمُوهُ
sa-altumūhu
you asked of Him
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
تَعُدُّوا۟
taʿuddū
you count
نِعْمَتَ
niʿ'mata
(the) Favor of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(the) Favor of Allah
لَا
not
تُحْصُوهَآ
tuḥ'ṣūhā
you will (be able to) count them
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
l-insāna
the mankind
لَظَلُومٌ
laẓalūmun
(is) surely unjust
كَفَّارٌ
kaffārun
(and) ungrateful
And He gave you from all you asked of Him.1 And if you should count the favor [i.e., blessings] of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.2

14:35
Ayah 14:35
وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدَ ءَامِنًا وَٱجْنُبْنِى وَبَنِىَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ ٱلْأَصْنَامَ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قَالَ
qāla
said
إِبْرَٰهِيمُ
ib'rāhīmu
Ibrahim
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
ٱجْعَلْ
ij'ʿal
Make
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
ٱلْبَلَدَ
l-balada
city
ءَامِنًا
āminan
safe
وَٱجْنُبْنِى
wa-uj'nub'nī
and keep me away
وَبَنِىَّ
wabaniyya
and my sons
أَن
an
that
نَّعْبُدَ
naʿbuda
we worship
ٱلْأَصْنَامَ
l-aṣnāma
the idols
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city [i.e., Makkah] secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.

14:36
Ayah 14:36
رَبِّ إِنَّهُنَّ أَضْلَلْنَ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ فَمَن تَبِعَنِى فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنِّى ۖ وَمَنْ عَصَانِى فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
إِنَّهُنَّ
innahunna
Indeed, they
أَضْلَلْنَ
aḍlalna
have led astray
كَثِيرًا
kathīran
many
مِّنَ
mina
among
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
the mankind
فَمَن
faman
So whoever
تَبِعَنِى
tabiʿanī
follows me
فَإِنَّهُۥ
fa-innahu
then indeed, he
مِنِّى
minnī
(is) of me
وَمَنْ
waman
and whoever
عَصَانِى
ʿaṣānī
disobeys me
فَإِنَّكَ
fa-innaka
then indeed, You
غَفُورٌ
ghafūrun
(are) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
raḥīmun
Most Merciful
My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me;1 and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.

14:37
Ayah 14:37
رَّبَّنَآ إِنِّىٓ أَسْكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِى بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِى زَرْعٍ عِندَ بَيْتِكَ ٱلْمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجْعَلْ أَفْـِٔدَةً مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهْوِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ وَٱرْزُقْهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْكُرُونَ
رَّبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أَسْكَنتُ
askantu
[I] have settled
مِن
min
(some) of
ذُرِّيَّتِى
dhurriyyatī
my offsprings
بِوَادٍ
biwādin
in a valley
غَيْرِ
ghayri
not
ذِى
dhī
with
زَرْعٍ
zarʿin
cultivation
عِندَ
ʿinda
near
بَيْتِكَ
baytika
Your Sacred House
ٱلْمُحَرَّمِ
l-muḥarami
Your Sacred House
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
our Lord
لِيُقِيمُوا۟
liyuqīmū
That they may establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalata
the prayers
فَٱجْعَلْ
fa-ij'ʿal
So make
أَفْـِٔدَةً
afidatan
hearts
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
the men
تَهْوِىٓ
tahwī
incline
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhim
towards them
وَٱرْزُقْهُم
wa-ur'zuq'hum
and provide them
مِّنَ
mina
with
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
l-thamarāti
the fruits
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
so that they may
يَشْكُرُونَ
yashkurūna
be grateful
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful.

14:38
Ayah 14:38
رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ مَا نُخْفِى وَمَا نُعْلِنُ ۗ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, You
تَعْلَمُ
taʿlamu
You know
مَا
what
نُخْفِى
nukh'fī
we conceal
وَمَا
wamā
and what
نُعْلِنُ
nuʿ'linu
we proclaim
وَمَا
wamā
And not
يَخْفَىٰ
yakhfā
(is) hidden
عَلَى
ʿalā
from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مِن
min
any
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَا
walā
and not
فِى
in
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the heaven
Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allāh on the earth or in the heaven.

14:39
Ayah 14:39
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى وَهَبَ لِى عَلَى ٱلْكِبَرِ إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى لَسَمِيعُ ٱلدُّعَآءِ
ٱلْحَمْدُ
al-ḥamdu
All the Praise
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the One Who
وَهَبَ
wahaba
has granted
لِى
me
عَلَى
ʿalā
in
ٱلْكِبَرِ
l-kibari
the old age
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ
is'māʿīla
Ishmael
وَإِسْحَـٰقَ
wa-is'ḥāqa
and Isaac
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
لَسَمِيعُ
lasamīʿu
(is) All-Hearer
ٱلدُّعَآءِ
l-duʿāi
(of) the prayer
Praise to Allāh, who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication.

14:40
Ayah 14:40
رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
ٱجْعَلْنِى
ij'ʿalnī
Make me
مُقِيمَ
muqīma
an establisher
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
l-ṣalati
(of) the prayer
وَمِن
wamin
and from
ذُرِّيَّتِى
dhurriyyatī
my offsprings
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
وَتَقَبَّلْ
wataqabbal
and accept
دُعَآءِ
duʿāi
my prayer
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.

14:41
Ayah 14:41
رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
ٱغْفِرْ
igh'fir
Forgive
لِى
me
وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ
waliwālidayya
and my parents
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
walil'mu'minīna
and the believers
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on) the Day
يَقُومُ
yaqūmu
will (be) established
ٱلْحِسَابُ
l-ḥisābu
the account
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."

14:42
Ayah 14:42
وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَـٰفِلًا عَمَّا يَعْمَلُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ تَشْخَصُ فِيهِ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّ
taḥsabanna
think
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
(that) Allah
غَـٰفِلًا
ghāfilan
(is) unaware
عَمَّا
ʿammā
of what
يَعْمَلُ
yaʿmalu
do
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ
yu-akhiruhum
He gives them respite
لِيَوْمٍ
liyawmin
to a Day
تَشْخَصُ
tashkhaṣu
will stare
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ
l-abṣāru
the eyes
And never think that Allāh is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them [i.e., their account] for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].

14:43
Ayah 14:43
مُهْطِعِينَ مُقْنِعِى رُءُوسِهِمْ لَا يَرْتَدُّ إِلَيْهِمْ طَرْفُهُمْ ۖ وَأَفْـِٔدَتُهُمْ هَوَآءٌ
مُهْطِعِينَ
muh'ṭiʿīna
Racing ahead
مُقْنِعِى
muq'niʿī
raised up
رُءُوسِهِمْ
ruūsihim
their heads
لَا
not
يَرْتَدُّ
yartaddu
returning
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhim
towards them
طَرْفُهُمْ
ṭarfuhum
their gaze
وَأَفْـِٔدَتُهُمْ
wa-afidatuhum
and their hearts
هَوَآءٌ
hawāon
(are) empty
Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them,1 and their hearts are void.

14:44
Ayah 14:44
وَأَنذِرِ ٱلنَّاسَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ فَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَخِّرْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ نُّجِبْ دَعْوَتَكَ وَنَتَّبِعِ ٱلرُّسُلَ ۗ أَوَلَمْ تَكُونُوٓا۟ أَقْسَمْتُم مِّن قَبْلُ مَا لَكُم مِّن زَوَالٍ
وَأَنذِرِ
wa-andhiri
And warn
ٱلنَّاسَ
l-nāsa
the mankind
يَوْمَ
yawma
(of) a Day
يَأْتِيهِمُ
yatīhimu
(when) will come to them
ٱلْعَذَابُ
l-ʿadhābu
the punishment
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūlu
then will say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟
ẓalamū
did wrong
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
أَخِّرْنَآ
akhir'nā
Respite us
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
for
أَجَلٍ
ajalin
a term
قَرِيبٍ
qarībin
short
نُّجِبْ
nujib
we will answer
دَعْوَتَكَ
daʿwataka
Your call
وَنَتَّبِعِ
wanattabiʿi
and we will follow
ٱلرُّسُلَ
l-rusula
the Messengers
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Had not
تَكُونُوٓا۟
takūnū
you
أَقْسَمْتُم
aqsamtum
sworn
مِّن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّن
min
any
زَوَالٍ
zawālin
end
And, [O Muḥammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation?1

14:45
Ayah 14:45
وَسَكَنتُمْ فِى مَسَـٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمْ كَيْفَ فَعَلْنَا بِهِمْ وَضَرَبْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ
وَسَكَنتُمْ
wasakantum
And you dwelt
فِى
in
مَسَـٰكِنِ
masākini
the dwellings
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
ظَلَمُوٓا۟
ẓalamū
wronged
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahum
themselves
وَتَبَيَّنَ
watabayyana
and it had become clear
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
فَعَلْنَا
faʿalnā
We dealt
بِهِمْ
bihim
with them
وَضَرَبْنَا
waḍarabnā
and We put forth
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَمْثَالَ
l-amthāla
the examples
And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We presented for you [many] examples."

14:46
Ayah 14:46
وَقَدْ مَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرَهُمْ وَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَكْرُهُمْ وَإِن كَانَ مَكْرُهُمْ لِتَزُولَ مِنْهُ ٱلْجِبَالُ
وَقَدْ
waqad
And indeed
مَكَرُوا۟
makarū
they planned
مَكْرَهُمْ
makrahum
their plan
وَعِندَ
waʿinda
but with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مَكْرُهُمْ
makruhum
(was) their plan
وَإِن
wa-in
even if
كَانَ
kāna
was
مَكْرُهُمْ
makruhum
their plan
لِتَزُولَ
litazūla
that should be moved
مِنْهُ
min'hu
by it
ٱلْجِبَالُ
l-jibālu
the mountains
And they had planned their plan, but with Allāh is [recorded] their plan, even if their plan had been [sufficient] to do away with the mountains.1

14:47
Ayah 14:47
فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِفَ وَعْدِهِۦ رُسُلَهُۥٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ
فَلَا
falā
So (do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّ
taḥsabanna
think
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
(that) Allah
مُخْلِفَ
mukh'lifa
will fail
وَعْدِهِۦ
waʿdihi
(to) keep His Promise
رُسُلَهُۥٓ
rusulahu
(to) His Messengers
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
عَزِيزٌ
ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
ذُو
dhū
Owner (of) Retribution
ٱنتِقَامٍ
intiqāmin
Owner (of) Retribution
So never think that Allāh will fail in His promise to His messengers. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution.1

14:48
Ayah 14:48
يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ ٱلْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ۖ وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
يَوْمَ
yawma
(On the) Day
تُبَدَّلُ
tubaddalu
will be changed
ٱلْأَرْضُ
l-arḍu
the earth
غَيْرَ
ghayra
(to) other (than)
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ
wal-samāwātu
and the heavens
وَبَرَزُوا۟
wabarazū
and they will come forth
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
before Allah
ٱلْوَٰحِدِ
l-wāḥidi
the One
ٱلْقَهَّارِ
l-qahāri
the Irresistible
[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and they [i.e., all creatures] will come out before Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,

14:49
Ayah 14:49
وَتَرَى ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّقَرَّنِينَ فِى ٱلْأَصْفَادِ
وَتَرَى
watarā
And you will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
l-muj'rimīna
the criminals
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
(on) that Day
مُّقَرَّنِينَ
muqarranīna
bound together
فِى
in
ٱلْأَصْفَادِ
l-aṣfādi
the chains
And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in irons,

14:50
Ayah 14:50
سَرَابِيلُهُم مِّن قَطِرَانٍ وَتَغْشَىٰ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ
سَرَابِيلُهُم
sarābīluhum
Their garments
مِّن
min
of
قَطِرَانٍ
qaṭirānin
tar
وَتَغْشَىٰ
wataghshā
and will cover
وُجُوهَهُمُ
wujūhahumu
their faces
ٱلنَّارُ
l-nāru
the Fire
Their garments of liquid pitch and their faces covered by the Fire

14:51
Ayah 14:51
لِيَجْزِىَ ٱللَّهُ كُلَّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
لِيَجْزِىَ
liyajziya
So that Allah may recompense
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
So that Allah may recompense
كُلَّ
kulla
each
نَفْسٍ
nafsin
soul
مَّا
(for) what
كَسَبَتْ
kasabat
it earned
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
سَرِيعُ
sarīʿu
(is) Swift
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi
(in) the reckoning
So that Allāh will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.

14:52
Ayah 14:52
هَـٰذَا بَلَـٰغٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِيُنذَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
بَلَـٰغٌ
balāghun
(is) a Message
لِّلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsi
for the mankind
وَلِيُنذَرُوا۟
waliyundharū
that they may be warned
بِهِۦ
bihi
with it
وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟
waliyaʿlamū
and that they may know
أَنَّمَا
annamā
that only
هُوَ
huwa
He
إِلَـٰهٌ
ilāhun
(is) One God
وَٰحِدٌ
wāḥidun
(is) One God
وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ
waliyadhakkara
and that may take heed
أُو۟لُوا۟
ulū
men
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
l-albābi
(of) understanding
This [Qur’ān] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.
