18:1
Ayah 18:1
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَلَمْ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عِوَجَا ۜ
ٱلْحَمْدُ
al-ḥamdu
All Praise
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī
the One Who
أَنزَلَ
anzala
(has) revealed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
عَبْدِهِ
ʿabdihi
His slave
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Book
وَلَمْ
walam
and not
يَجْعَل
yajʿal
(has) made
لَّهُۥ
lahu
in it
عِوَجَا
ʿiwajā
any crookedness
[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, who has sent down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] the Book and has not made therein any deviance.1

18:2
Ayah 18:2
قَيِّمًا لِّيُنذِرَ بَأْسًا شَدِيدًا مِّن لَّدُنْهُ وَيُبَشِّرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا حَسَنًا
قَيِّمًا
qayyiman
Straight
لِّيُنذِرَ
liyundhira
to warn
بَأْسًا
basan
(of) a punishment
شَدِيدًا
shadīdan
severe
مِّن
min
from
لَّدُنْهُ
ladun'hu
near Him
وَيُبَشِّرَ
wayubashira
and give glad tidings
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
(to) the believers
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūna
do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
أَنَّ
anna
that
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
أَجْرًا
ajran
(is) a good reward
حَسَنًا
ḥasanan
(is) a good reward
[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward [i.e., Paradise].

18:3
Ayah 18:3
مَّـٰكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا
مَّـٰكِثِينَ
mākithīna
(They will) abide
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
أَبَدًا
abadan
forever
In which they will remain forever

18:4
Ayah 18:4
وَيُنذِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَدًا
وَيُنذِرَ
wayundhira
And to warn
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
قَالُوا۟
qālū
say
ٱتَّخَذَ
ittakhadha
Allah has taken
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has taken
وَلَدًا
waladan
a son
And to warn those who say, "Allāh has taken a son".

18:5
Ayah 18:5
مَّا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ وَلَا لِـَٔابَآئِهِمْ ۚ كَبُرَتْ كَلِمَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ ۚ إِن يَقُولُونَ إِلَّا كَذِبًا
مَّا
Not
لَهُم
lahum
they have
بِهِۦ
bihi
about it
مِنْ
min
any
عِلْمٍ
ʿil'min
knowledge
وَلَا
walā
and not
لِـَٔابَآئِهِمْ
liābāihim
their forefathers
كَبُرَتْ
kaburat
Grave (is)
كَلِمَةً
kalimatan
the word
تَخْرُجُ
takhruju
(that) comes out
مِنْ
min
of
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ
afwāhihim
their mouths
إِن
in
Not
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
they say
إِلَّا
illā
except
كَذِبًا
kadhiban
a lie
They have no knowledge of it,1 nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie.

18:6
Ayah 18:6
فَلَعَلَّكَ بَـٰخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ إِن لَّمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَسَفًا
فَلَعَلَّكَ
falaʿallaka
Then perhaps you would (be)
بَـٰخِعٌ
bākhiʿun
the one who kills
نَّفْسَكَ
nafsaka
yourself
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
over
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ
āthārihim
their footsteps
إِن
in
if
لَّمْ
lam
not
يُؤْمِنُوا۟
yu'minū
they believe
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhā
in this
ٱلْحَدِيثِ
l-ḥadīthi
[the] narration
أَسَفًا
asafan
(in) grief
Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muḥammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.

18:7
Ayah 18:7
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ زِينَةً لَّهَا لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnā
We have made
مَا
what
عَلَى
ʿalā
(is) on
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
زِينَةً
zīnatan
adornment
لَّهَا
lahā
for it
لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ
linabluwahum
that We may test [them]
أَيُّهُمْ
ayyuhum
which of them
أَحْسَنُ
aḥsanu
(is) best
عَمَلًا
ʿamalan
(in) deed
Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed.

18:8
Ayah 18:8
وَإِنَّا لَجَـٰعِلُونَ مَا عَلَيْهَا صَعِيدًا جُرُزًا
وَإِنَّا
wa-innā
And indeed, We
لَجَـٰعِلُونَ
lajāʿilūna
(will) surely make
مَا
what
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
(is) on it
صَعِيدًا
ṣaʿīdan
soil
جُرُزًا
juruzan
barren
And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground.

18:9
Ayah 18:9
أَمْ حَسِبْتَ أَنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْكَهْفِ وَٱلرَّقِيمِ كَانُوا۟ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا عَجَبًا
أَمْ
am
Or
حَسِبْتَ
ḥasib'ta
have you thought
أَنَّ
anna
that
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba
(the) companions
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfi
(of) the cave
وَٱلرَّقِيمِ
wal-raqīmi
and the inscription
كَانُوا۟
kānū
were
مِنْ
min
among
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātinā
Our Signs
عَجَبًا
ʿajaban
a wonder
Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder?1

18:10
Ayah 18:10
إِذْ أَوَى ٱلْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ فَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا
إِذْ
idh
When
أَوَى
awā
retreated
ٱلْفِتْيَةُ
l-fit'yatu
the youths
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfi
the cave
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālū
and they said
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
ءَاتِنَا
ātinā
Grant us
مِن
min
from
لَّدُنكَ
ladunka
Yourself
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
Mercy
وَهَيِّئْ
wahayyi
and facilitate
لَنَا
lanā
for us
مِنْ
min
[from]
أَمْرِنَا
amrinā
our affair
رَشَدًا
rashadan
(in the) right way
[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."

18:11
Ayah 18:11
فَضَرَبْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ فِى ٱلْكَهْفِ سِنِينَ عَدَدًا
فَضَرَبْنَا
faḍarabnā
So We cast
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
over
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
ādhānihim
their ears
فِى
in
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfi
the cave
سِنِينَ
sinīna
years
عَدَدًا
ʿadadan
a number
So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years.

18:12
Ayah 18:12
ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ لِنَعْلَمَ أَىُّ ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ أَحْصَىٰ لِمَا لَبِثُوٓا۟ أَمَدًا
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ
baʿathnāhum
We raised them up
لِنَعْلَمَ
linaʿlama
that We make evident
أَىُّ
ayyu
which
ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ
l-ḥiz'bayni
(of) the two parties
أَحْصَىٰ
aḥṣā
best calculated
لِمَا
limā
for what
لَبِثُوٓا۟
labithū
(they had) remained
أَمَدًا
amadan
(in) time
Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time.

18:13
Ayah 18:13
نَّحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ نَبَأَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ فِتْيَةٌ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ وَزِدْنَـٰهُمْ هُدًى
نَّحْنُ
naḥnu
We
نَقُصُّ
naquṣṣu
narrate
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
to you
نَبَأَهُم
naba-ahum
their story
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they (were)
فِتْيَةٌ
fit'yatun
youths
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
who believed
بِرَبِّهِمْ
birabbihim
in their Lord
وَزِدْنَـٰهُمْ
wazid'nāhum
and We increased them
هُدًى
hudan
(in) guidance
It is We who relate to you, [O Muḥammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.

18:14
Ayah 18:14
وَرَبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ إِذْ قَامُوا۟ فَقَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ لَن نَّدْعُوَا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَـٰهًا ۖ لَّقَدْ قُلْنَآ إِذًا شَطَطًا
وَرَبَطْنَا
warabaṭnā
And We made firm
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
[on]
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihim
their hearts
إِذْ
idh
when
قَامُوا۟
qāmū
they stood up
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālū
and said
رَبُّنَا
rabbunā
Our Lord
رَبُّ
rabbu
(is) the Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
لَن
lan
Never
نَّدْعُوَا۟
nadʿuwā
we will invoke
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihi
besides Him
إِلَـٰهًا
ilāhan
any god
لَّقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
قُلْنَآ
qul'nā
we would have said
إِذًا
idhan
then
شَطَطًا
shaṭaṭan
an enormity
And We bound [i.e., made firm] their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression.

18:15
Ayah 18:15
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمُنَا ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً ۖ لَّوْلَا يَأْتُونَ عَلَيْهِم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۭ بَيِّنٍ ۖ فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāi
These
قَوْمُنَا
qawmunā
our people
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhū
have taken
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihi
besides Him
ءَالِهَةً
ālihatan
gods
لَّوْلَا
lawlā
Why not
يَأْتُونَ
yatūna
they come
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
to them
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۭ
bisul'ṭānin
with an authority
بَيِّنٍ
bayyinin
clear
فَمَنْ
faman
And who
أَظْلَمُ
aẓlamu
(is) more wrong
مِمَّنِ
mimmani
than (one) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarā
invents
عَلَى
ʿalā
against
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًا
kadhiban
a lie
These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. Why do they not bring for [worship of] them a clear evidence? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie?"

18:16
Ayah 18:16
وَإِذِ ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ فَأْوُۥٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ يَنشُرْ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ وَيُهَيِّئْ لَكُم مِّنْ أَمْرِكُم مِّرْفَقًا
وَإِذِ
wa-idhi
And when
ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ
iʿ'tazaltumūhum
you withdraw from them
وَمَا
wamā
and what
يَعْبُدُونَ
yaʿbudūna
they worship
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
فَأْوُۥٓا۟
fawū
then retreat
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfi
the cave
يَنشُرْ
yanshur
Will spread
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
رَبُّكُم
rabbukum
your Lord
مِّن
min
of
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ
raḥmatihi
His Mercy
وَيُهَيِّئْ
wayuhayyi
and will facilitate
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنْ
min
[from]
أَمْرِكُم
amrikum
your affair
مِّرْفَقًا
mir'faqan
(in) ease
[The youths said to one another], "And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than Allāh, retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread out for you of His mercy and will prepare for you from your affair facility."

18:17
Ayah 18:17
۞ وَتَرَى ٱلشَّمْسَ إِذَا طَلَعَت تَّزَٰوَرُ عَن كَهْفِهِمْ ذَاتَ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَإِذَا غَرَبَت تَّقْرِضُهُمْ ذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِ وَهُمْ فِى فَجْوَةٍ مِّنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ مَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖ وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ وَلِيًّا مُّرْشِدًا
وَتَرَى
watarā
And you (might) have seen
ٱلشَّمْسَ
l-shamsa
the sun
إِذَا
idhā
when
طَلَعَت
ṭalaʿat
it rose
تَّزَٰوَرُ
tazāwaru
inclining away
عَن
ʿan
from
كَهْفِهِمْ
kahfihim
their cave
ذَاتَ
dhāta
to
ٱلْيَمِينِ
l-yamīni
the right
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
and when
غَرَبَت
gharabat
it set
تَّقْرِضُهُمْ
taqriḍuhum
passing away from them
ذَاتَ
dhāta
to
ٱلشِّمَالِ
l-shimāli
the left
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
فِى
(lay) in
فَجْوَةٍ
fajwatin
the open space
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
thereof
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
مِنْ
min
(was) from
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
مَن
man
Whoever
يَهْدِ
yahdi
Allah guides
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah guides
فَهُوَ
fahuwa
and he
ٱلْمُهْتَدِ
l-muh'tadi
(is) the guided one
وَمَن
waman
and whoever
يُضْلِلْ
yuḍ'lil
He lets go astray
فَلَن
falan
then never
تَجِدَ
tajida
you will find
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
وَلِيًّا
waliyyan
a protector
مُّرْشِدًا
mur'shidan
a guide
And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [lying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allāh. He whom Allāh guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He sends astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide.

18:18
Ayah 18:18
وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ أَيْقَاظًا وَهُمْ رُقُودٌ ۚ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ ذَاتَ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِ ۖ وَكَلْبُهُم بَـٰسِطٌ ذِرَاعَيْهِ بِٱلْوَصِيدِ ۚ لَوِ ٱطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَوَلَّيْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِرَارًا وَلَمُلِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ رُعْبًا
وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ
wataḥsabuhum
And you (would) think them
أَيْقَاظًا
ayqāẓan
awake
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
رُقُودٌ
ruqūdun
(were) asleep
وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ
wanuqallibuhum
And We turned them
ذَاتَ
dhāta
to
ٱلْيَمِينِ
l-yamīni
the right
وَذَاتَ
wadhāta
and to
ٱلشِّمَالِ
l-shimāli
the left
وَكَلْبُهُم
wakalbuhum
while their dog
بَـٰسِطٌ
bāsiṭun
stretched
ذِرَاعَيْهِ
dhirāʿayhi
his two forelegs
بِٱلْوَصِيدِ
bil-waṣīdi
at the entrance
لَوِ
lawi
If
ٱطَّلَعْتَ
iṭṭalaʿta
you had looked
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
at them
لَوَلَّيْتَ
lawallayta
you (would) have surely turned back
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
from them
فِرَارًا
firāran
(in) flight
وَلَمُلِئْتَ
walamuli'ta
and surely you would have been filled
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
by them
رُعْبًا
ruʿ'ban
(with) terror
And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.

18:19
Ayah 18:19
وَكَذَٰلِكَ بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ لِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ ۚ قَالُوا۟ رَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثْتُمْ فَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟ أَحَدَكُم بِوَرِقِكُمْ هَـٰذِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ فَلْيَنظُرْ أَيُّهَآ أَزْكَىٰ طَعَامًا فَلْيَأْتِكُم بِرِزْقٍ مِّنْهُ وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ وَلَا يُشْعِرَنَّ بِكُمْ أَحَدًا
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And similarly
بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ
baʿathnāhum
We raised them
لِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟
liyatasāalū
that they might question
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
among them
قَالَ
qāla
Said
قَآئِلٌ
qāilun
a speaker
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
among them
كَمْ
kam
How long
لَبِثْتُمْ
labith'tum
have you remained
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
لَبِثْنَا
labith'nā
We have remained
يَوْمًا
yawman
a day
أَوْ
aw
or
بَعْضَ
baʿḍa
a part
يَوْمٍ
yawmin
(of) a day
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
Your Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
knows best
بِمَا
bimā
how long
لَبِثْتُمْ
labith'tum
you have remained
فَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟
fa-ib'ʿathū
So send
أَحَدَكُم
aḥadakum
one of you
بِوَرِقِكُمْ
biwariqikum
with this silver coin of yours
هَـٰذِهِۦٓ
hādhihi
with this silver coin of yours
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnati
the city
فَلْيَنظُرْ
falyanẓur
and let him see
أَيُّهَآ
ayyuhā
which is
أَزْكَىٰ
azkā
the purest
طَعَامًا
ṭaʿāman
food
فَلْيَأْتِكُم
falyatikum
and let him bring to you
بِرِزْقٍ
biriz'qin
provision
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
from it
وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ
walyatalaṭṭaf
and let him be cautious
وَلَا
walā
And let not be aware
يُشْعِرَنَّ
yush'ʿiranna
And let not be aware
بِكُمْ
bikum
about you
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
anyone
And similarly,1 We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, "How long have you remained [here]?" They said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.

18:20
Ayah 18:20
إِنَّهُمْ إِن يَظْهَرُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ يَرْجُمُوكُمْ أَوْ يُعِيدُوكُمْ فِى مِلَّتِهِمْ وَلَن تُفْلِحُوٓا۟ إِذًا أَبَدًا
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, [they]
إِن
in
if
يَظْهَرُوا۟
yaẓharū
they come to know
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
about you
يَرْجُمُوكُمْ
yarjumūkum
they will stone you
أَوْ
aw
or
يُعِيدُوكُمْ
yuʿīdūkum
return you
فِى
to
مِلَّتِهِمْ
millatihim
their religion
وَلَن
walan
And never
تُفْلِحُوٓا۟
tuf'liḥū
will you succeed
إِذًا
idhan
then
أَبَدًا
abadan
ever
Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then - ever."

18:21
Ayah 18:21
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَعْثَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَأَنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَآ إِذْ يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَمْرَهُمْ ۖ فَقَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ عَلَيْهِم بُنْيَـٰنًا ۖ رَّبُّهُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِهِمْ ۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ غَلَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرِهِمْ لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ عَلَيْهِم مَّسْجِدًا
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And similarly
أَعْثَرْنَا
aʿtharnā
We made known
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
about them
لِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟
liyaʿlamū
that they might know
أَنَّ
anna
that
وَعْدَ
waʿda
(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
حَقٌّ
ḥaqqun
(is) true
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata
(about) the Hour
لَا
(there is) no
رَيْبَ
rayba
doubt
فِيهَآ
fīhā
in it
إِذْ
idh
When
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ
yatanāzaʿūna
they disputed
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
among themselves
أَمْرَهُمْ
amrahum
about their affair
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālū
and they said
ٱبْنُوا۟
ib'nū
Construct
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
over them
بُنْيَـٰنًا
bun'yānan
a structure
رَّبُّهُمْ
rabbuhum
Their Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
knows best
بِهِمْ
bihim
about them
قَالَ
qāla
Said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
غَلَبُوا۟
ghalabū
prevailed
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
in
أَمْرِهِمْ
amrihim
their matter
لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ
lanattakhidhanna
Surely we will take
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
over them
مَّسْجِدًا
masjidan
a place of worship
And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allāh is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they1 disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid."2

18:22
Ayah 18:22
سَيَقُولُونَ ثَلَـٰثَةٌ رَّابِعُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ خَمْسَةٌ سَادِسُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ رَجْمًۢا بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ وَيَقُولُونَ سَبْعَةٌ وَثَامِنُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ ۚ قُل رَّبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِعِدَّتِهِم مَّا يَعْلَمُهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ ۗ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِيهِمْ إِلَّا مِرَآءً ظَـٰهِرًا وَلَا تَسْتَفْتِ فِيهِم مِّنْهُمْ أَحَدًا
سَيَقُولُونَ
sayaqūlūna
They say
ثَلَـٰثَةٌ
thalāthatun
(they were) three
رَّابِعُهُمْ
rābiʿuhum
the forth of them
كَلْبُهُمْ
kalbuhum
their dog
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūna
and they say
خَمْسَةٌ
khamsatun
(they were) five
سَادِسُهُمْ
sādisuhum
the sixth of them
كَلْبُهُمْ
kalbuhum
their dog
رَجْمًۢا
rajman
guessing
بِٱلْغَيْبِ
bil-ghaybi
about the unseen
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūna
and they say
سَبْعَةٌ
sabʿatun
(they were) seven
وَثَامِنُهُمْ
wathāminuhum
and the eight of them
كَلْبُهُمْ
kalbuhum
their dog
قُل
qul
Say
رَّبِّىٓ
rabbī
My Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
knows best
بِعِدَّتِهِم
biʿiddatihim
their number
مَّا
None
يَعْلَمُهُمْ
yaʿlamuhum
knows them
إِلَّا
illā
except
قَلِيلٌ
qalīlun
a few
فَلَا
falā
So (do) not
تُمَارِ
tumāri
argue
فِيهِمْ
fīhim
about them
إِلَّا
illā
except
مِرَآءً
mirāan
(with) an argument
ظَـٰهِرًا
ẓāhiran
obvious
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَسْتَفْتِ
tastafti
inquire
فِيهِم
fīhim
about them
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
among them
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
(from) anyone
They [i.e., people] will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument1 and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone."

18:23
Ayah 18:23
وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ لِشَا۟ىْءٍ إِنِّى فَاعِلٌ ذَٰلِكَ غَدًا
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَقُولَنَّ
taqūlanna
say
لِشَا۟ىْءٍ
lishāy'in
of anything
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
فَاعِلٌ
fāʿilun
will do
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
غَدًا
ghadan
tomorrow
And never say of anything, "Indeed, I will do that tomorrow,"

18:24
Ayah 18:24
إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَٱذْكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ وَقُلْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّى لِأَقْرَبَ مِنْ هَـٰذَا رَشَدًا
إِلَّآ
illā
Except
أَن
an
If
يَشَآءَ
yashāa
Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah wills
وَٱذْكُر
wa-udh'kur
And remember
رَّبَّكَ
rabbaka
your Lord
إِذَا
idhā
when
نَسِيتَ
nasīta
you forget
وَقُلْ
waqul
and say
عَسَىٰٓ
ʿasā
Perhaps
أَن
an
[that]
يَهْدِيَنِ
yahdiyani
will guide me
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
لِأَقْرَبَ
li-aqraba
to a nearer (way)
مِنْ
min
than
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
رَشَدًا
rashadan
right way
Except [when adding], "If Allāh wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct."

18:25
Ayah 18:25
وَلَبِثُوا۟ فِى كَهْفِهِمْ ثَلَـٰثَ مِا۟ئَةٍ سِنِينَ وَٱزْدَادُوا۟ تِسْعًا
وَلَبِثُوا۟
walabithū
And they remained
فِى
in
كَهْفِهِمْ
kahfihim
their cave
ثَلَـٰثَ
thalātha
(for) three
مِا۟ئَةٍ
mi-atin
hundred
سِنِينَ
sinīna
years
وَٱزْدَادُوا۟
wa-iz'dādū
and add
تِسْعًا
tis'ʿan
nine
And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine.1

18:26
Ayah 18:26
قُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُوا۟ ۖ لَهُۥ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ أَبْصِرْ بِهِۦ وَأَسْمِعْ ۚ مَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا يُشْرِكُ فِى حُكْمِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
قُلِ
quli
Say
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
knows best
بِمَا
bimā
about what (period)
لَبِثُوا۟
labithū
they remained
لَهُۥ
lahu
For Him
غَيْبُ
ghaybu
(is the) unseen
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
أَبْصِرْ
abṣir
How clearly He sees
بِهِۦ
bihi
[of it]
وَأَسْمِعْ
wa-asmiʿ
And how clearly He hears
مَا
Not
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihi
besides Him
مِن
min
any
وَلِىٍّ
waliyyin
protector
وَلَا
walā
and not
يُشْرِكُ
yush'riku
He shares
فِى
[in]
حُكْمِهِۦٓ
ḥuk'mihi
His Commands
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
(with) anyone
Say, "Allāh is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides Him any protector, and He shares not His legislation with anyone."

18:27
Ayah 18:27
وَٱتْلُ مَآ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ مِن كِتَابِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَلَن تَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا
وَٱتْلُ
wa-ut'lu
And recite
مَآ
what
أُوحِىَ
ūḥiya
has been revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
مِن
min
of
كِتَابِ
kitābi
the Book
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
لَا
None
مُبَدِّلَ
mubaddila
can change
لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ
likalimātihi
His Words
وَلَن
walan
and never
تَجِدَ
tajida
you will find
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihi
besides Him
مُلْتَحَدًا
mul'taḥadan
a refuge
And recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge.

18:28
Ayah 18:28
وَٱصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ وَٱلْعَشِىِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنَاكَ عَنْهُمْ تُرِيدُ زِينَةَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَا تُطِعْ مَنْ أَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهُۥ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ وَكَانَ أَمْرُهُۥ فُرُطًا
وَٱصْبِرْ
wa-iṣ'bir
And be patient
نَفْسَكَ
nafsaka
yourself
مَعَ
maʿa
with
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūna
call
رَبَّهُم
rabbahum
their Lord
بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ
bil-ghadati
in the morning
وَٱلْعَشِىِّ
wal-ʿashiyi
and the evening
يُرِيدُونَ
yurīdūna
desiring
وَجْهَهُۥ
wajhahu
His Face
وَلَا
walā
And (let) not
تَعْدُ
taʿdu
pass beyond
عَيْنَاكَ
ʿaynāka
your eyes
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhum
over them
تُرِيدُ
turīdu
desiring
زِينَةَ
zīnata
adornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تُطِعْ
tuṭiʿ
obey
مَنْ
man
whom
أَغْفَلْنَا
aghfalnā
We have made heedless
قَلْبَهُۥ
qalbahu
his heart
عَن
ʿan
of
ذِكْرِنَا
dhik'rinā
Our remembrance
وَٱتَّبَعَ
wa-ittabaʿa
and follows
هَوَىٰهُ
hawāhu
his desires
وَكَانَ
wakāna
and is
أَمْرُهُۥ
amruhu
his affair
فُرُطًا
furuṭan
(in) excess
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His face [i.e., acceptance]. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect.1

18:29
Ayah 18:29
وَقُلِ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ فَلْيُؤْمِن وَمَن شَآءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ ۚ إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا ۚ وَإِن يَسْتَغِيثُوا۟ يُغَاثُوا۟ بِمَآءٍ كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَشْوِى ٱلْوُجُوهَ ۚ بِئْسَ ٱلشَّرَابُ وَسَآءَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا
وَقُلِ
waquli
And say
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
The truth
مِن
min
(is) from
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikum
your Lord
فَمَن
faman
so whoever
شَآءَ
shāa
wills
فَلْيُؤْمِن
falyu'min
let him believe
وَمَن
waman
and whoever
شَآءَ
shāa
wills
فَلْيَكْفُرْ
falyakfur
let him disbelieve
إِنَّآ
innā
Indeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَا
aʿtadnā
have prepared
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers
نَارًا
nāran
a Fire
أَحَاطَ
aḥāṭa
will surround
بِهِمْ
bihim
them
سُرَادِقُهَا
surādiquhā
its walls
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
يَسْتَغِيثُوا۟
yastaghīthū
they call for relief
يُغَاثُوا۟
yughāthū
they will be relieved
بِمَآءٍ
bimāin
with water
كَٱلْمُهْلِ
kal-muh'li
like molten brass
يَشْوِى
yashwī
(which) scalds
ٱلْوُجُوهَ
l-wujūha
the faces
بِئْسَ
bi'sa
Wretched
ٱلشَّرَابُ
l-sharābu
(is) the drink
وَسَآءَتْ
wasāat
and evil
مُرْتَفَقًا
mur'tafaqan
(is) the resting place
And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

18:30
Ayah 18:30
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ مَنْ أَحْسَنَ عَمَلًا
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
the good deeds
إِنَّا
innā
indeed, We
لَا
will not let go waste
نُضِيعُ
nuḍīʿu
will not let go waste
أَجْرَ
ajra
(the) reward
مَنْ
man
(of one) who
أَحْسَنَ
aḥsana
does good
عَمَلًا
ʿamalan
deeds
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds.

18:31
Ayah 18:31
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهِمُ ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيهَا مِنْ أَسَاوِرَ مِن ذَهَبٍ وَيَلْبَسُونَ ثِيَابًا خُضْرًا مِّن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۚ نِعْمَ ٱلثَّوَابُ وَحَسُنَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātu
(are) Gardens
عَدْنٍ
ʿadnin
of Eden
تَجْرِى
tajrī
flows
مِن
min
from
تَحْتِهِمُ
taḥtihimu
underneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāru
the rivers
يُحَلَّوْنَ
yuḥallawna
They will be adorned
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
مِنْ
min
[of] (with)
أَسَاوِرَ
asāwira
bracelets
مِن
min
of
ذَهَبٍ
dhahabin
gold
وَيَلْبَسُونَ
wayalbasūna
and will wear
ثِيَابًا
thiyāban
garments
خُضْرًا
khuḍ'ran
green
مِّن
min
of
سُندُسٍ
sundusin
fine silk
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ
wa-is'tabraqin
and heavy brocade
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ
muttakiīna
reclining
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
عَلَى
ʿalā
on
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ
l-arāiki
adorned couches
نِعْمَ
niʿ'ma
Excellent
ٱلثَّوَابُ
l-thawābu
(is) the reward
وَحَسُنَتْ
waḥasunat
and good
مُرْتَفَقًا
mur'tafaqan
(is) the resting place
Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.

18:32
Ayah 18:32
۞ وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ مِنْ أَعْنَـٰبٍ وَحَفَفْنَـٰهُمَا بِنَخْلٍ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا زَرْعًا
وَٱضْرِبْ
wa-iḍ'rib
And set forth
لَهُم
lahum
to them
مَّثَلًا
mathalan
the example
رَّجُلَيْنِ
rajulayni
of two men:
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnā
We provided
لِأَحَدِهِمَا
li-aḥadihimā
for one of them
جَنَّتَيْنِ
jannatayni
two gardens
مِنْ
min
of
أَعْنَـٰبٍ
aʿnābin
grapes
وَحَفَفْنَـٰهُمَا
waḥafafnāhumā
and We bordered them
بِنَخْلٍ
binakhlin
with date-palms
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnā
and We placed
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā
between both of them
زَرْعًا
zarʿan
crops
And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We bordered them with palm trees and placed between them [fields of] crops.

18:33
Ayah 18:33
كِلْتَا ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ ءَاتَتْ أُكُلَهَا وَلَمْ تَظْلِم مِّنْهُ شَيْـًٔا ۚ وَفَجَّرْنَا خِلَـٰلَهُمَا نَهَرًا
كِلْتَا
kil'tā
Each
ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ
l-janatayni
(of) the two gardens
ءَاتَتْ
ātat
brought forth
أُكُلَهَا
ukulahā
its produce
وَلَمْ
walam
and not
تَظْلِم
taẓlim
did wrong
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
of it
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
anything
وَفَجَّرْنَا
wafajjarnā
And We caused to gush forth
خِلَـٰلَهُمَا
khilālahumā
within them
نَهَرًا
naharan
a river
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river.

18:34
Ayah 18:34
وَكَانَ لَهُۥ ثَمَرٌ فَقَالَ لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ أَنَا۠ أَكْثَرُ مِنكَ مَالًا وَأَعَزُّ نَفَرًا
وَكَانَ
wakāna
And was
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
ثَمَرٌ
thamarun
fruit
فَقَالَ
faqāla
so he said
لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ
liṣāḥibihi
to his companion
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ
yuḥāwiruhu
(was) talking with him
أَنَا۠
anā
I am
أَكْثَرُ
aktharu
greater
مِنكَ
minka
than you
مَالًا
mālan
(in) wealth
وَأَعَزُّ
wa-aʿazzu
and stronger
نَفَرًا
nafaran
(in) men
And he had fruit, so he said to his companion while he was conversing with him, "I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in [numbers of] men."

18:35
Ayah 18:35
وَدَخَلَ جَنَّتَهُۥ وَهُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ قَالَ مَآ أَظُنُّ أَن تَبِيدَ هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أَبَدًا
وَدَخَلَ
wadakhala
And he entered
جَنَّتَهُۥ
jannatahu
his garden
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
ظَالِمٌ
ẓālimun
(was) unjust
لِّنَفْسِهِۦ
linafsihi
to himself
قَالَ
qāla
He said
مَآ
Not
أَظُنُّ
aẓunnu
I think
أَن
an
that
تَبِيدَ
tabīda
will perish
هَـٰذِهِۦٓ
hādhihi
this
أَبَدًا
abadan
ever
And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself.1 He said, "I do not think that this will perish - ever.

18:36
Ayah 18:36
وَمَآ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَآئِمَةً وَلَئِن رُّدِدتُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى لَأَجِدَنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهَا مُنقَلَبًا
وَمَآ
wamā
And not
أَظُنُّ
aẓunnu
I think
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata
the Hour
قَآئِمَةً
qāimatan
will occur
وَلَئِن
wala-in
And if
رُّدِدتُّ
rudidttu
I am brought back
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
لَأَجِدَنَّ
la-ajidanna
I will surely find
خَيْرًا
khayran
better
مِّنْهَا
min'hā
than this
مُنقَلَبًا
munqalaban
(as) a return
And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return."

18:37
Ayah 18:37
قَالَ لَهُۥ صَاحِبُهُۥ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ أَكَفَرْتَ بِٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ مِن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ سَوَّىٰكَ رَجُلًا
قَالَ

Said
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
صَاحِبُهُۥ
ṣāḥibuhu
his companion
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ
yuḥāwiruhu
was talking to him
أَكَفَرْتَ
akafarta
Do you disbelieve
بِٱلَّذِى
bi-alladhī
in One Who
خَلَقَكَ
khalaqaka
created you
مِن
min
from
تُرَابٍ
turābin
dust
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
مِن
min
from
نُّطْفَةٍ
nuṭ'fatin
a minute quantity of semen
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
سَوَّىٰكَ
sawwāka
fashioned you
رَجُلًا
rajulan
(into) a man
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?

18:38
Ayah 18:38
لَّـٰكِنَّا۠ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّىٓ أَحَدًا
لَّـٰكِنَّا۠
lākinnā
But as for me
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
وَلَآ
walā
and not
أُشْرِكُ
ush'riku
I associate
بِرَبِّىٓ
birabbī
with my Lord
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
anyone
But as for me, He is Allāh, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone.

18:39
Ayah 18:39
وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ ۚ إِن تَرَنِ أَنَا۠ أَقَلَّ مِنكَ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا
وَلَوْلَآ
walawlā
And why (did you) not
إِذْ
idh
when
دَخَلْتَ
dakhalta
you entered
جَنَّتَكَ
jannataka
your garden
قُلْتَ
qul'ta
say
مَا
What
شَآءَ
shāa
wills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
لَا
(there is) no
قُوَّةَ
quwwata
power
إِلَّا
illā
except
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
with Allah
إِن
in
If
تَرَنِ
tarani
you see me
أَنَا۠
anā
(me)
أَقَلَّ
aqalla
lesser
مِنكَ
minka
than you
مَالًا
mālan
(in) wealth
وَوَلَدًا
wawaladan
and children
And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allāh willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allāh'? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children,

18:40
Ayah 18:40
فَعَسَىٰ رَبِّىٓ أَن يُؤْتِيَنِ خَيْرًا مِّن جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهَا حُسْبَانًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتُصْبِحَ صَعِيدًا زَلَقًا
فَعَسَىٰ
faʿasā
It may be
رَبِّىٓ
rabbī
that my Lord
أَن
an
that my Lord
يُؤْتِيَنِ
yu'tiyani
will give me
خَيْرًا
khayran
better
مِّن
min
than
جَنَّتِكَ
jannatika
your garden
وَيُرْسِلَ
wayur'sila
and will send
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
upon it
حُسْبَانًا
ḥus'bānan
a calamity
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
فَتُصْبِحَ
fatuṣ'biḥa
then it will become
صَعِيدًا
ṣaʿīdan
ground
زَلَقًا
zalaqan
slippery
It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a [disastrous] penalty from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground,

18:41
Ayah 18:41
أَوْ يُصْبِحَ مَآؤُهَا غَوْرًا فَلَن تَسْتَطِيعَ لَهُۥ طَلَبًا
أَوْ
aw
Or
يُصْبِحَ
yuṣ'biḥa
will become
مَآؤُهَا
māuhā
its water
غَوْرًا
ghawran
sunken
فَلَن
falan
so never
تَسْتَطِيعَ
tastaṭīʿa
you will be able
لَهُۥ
lahu
to find it
طَلَبًا
ṭalaban
to find it
Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it."

18:42
Ayah 18:42
وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِهِۦ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَنفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِىَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّىٓ أَحَدًا
وَأُحِيطَ
wa-uḥīṭa
And were surrounded
بِثَمَرِهِۦ
bithamarihi
his fruits
فَأَصْبَحَ
fa-aṣbaḥa
so he began
يُقَلِّبُ
yuqallibu
twisting
كَفَّيْهِ
kaffayhi
his hands
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
مَآ
what
أَنفَقَ
anfaqa
he (had) spent
فِيهَا
fīhā
on it
وَهِىَ
wahiya
while it (had)
خَاوِيَةٌ
khāwiyatun
collapsed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
عُرُوشِهَا
ʿurūshihā
its trellises
وَيَقُولُ
wayaqūlu
and he said
يَـٰلَيْتَنِى
yālaytanī
Oh! I wish
لَمْ
lam
I had not associated
أُشْرِكْ
ush'rik
I had not associated
بِرَبِّىٓ
birabbī
with my Lord
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
anyone
And his fruits were encompassed [by ruin], so he began to turn his hands about [in dismay] over what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and said, "Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone."1

18:43
Ayah 18:43
وَلَمْ تَكُن لَّهُۥ فِئَةٌ يَنصُرُونَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مُنتَصِرًا
وَلَمْ
walam
And not
تَكُن
takun
was
لَّهُۥ
lahu
for him
فِئَةٌ
fi-atun
a group
يَنصُرُونَهُۥ
yanṣurūnahu
(to) help him
مِن
min
other than
دُونِ
dūni
other than
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كَانَ
kāna
was
مُنتَصِرًا
muntaṣiran
(he) supported
And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor could he defend himself.

18:44
Ayah 18:44
هُنَالِكَ ٱلْوَلَـٰيَةُ لِلَّهِ ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ هُوَ خَيْرٌ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ عُقْبًا
هُنَالِكَ
hunālika
There
ٱلْوَلَـٰيَةُ
l-walāyatu
the protection
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(is) from Allah
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi
the True
هُوَ
huwa
He
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is the) best
ثَوَابًا
thawāban
(to) reward
وَخَيْرٌ
wakhayrun
and (the) best
عُقْبًا
ʿuq'ban
(for) the final end
There1 the authority is [completely] for Allāh, the Truth. He is best in reward and best in outcome.

18:45
Ayah 18:45
وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَٱخْتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحَ هَشِيمًا تَذْرُوهُ ٱلرِّيَـٰحُ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مُّقْتَدِرًا
وَٱضْرِبْ
wa-iḍ'rib
And present
لَهُم
lahum
to them
مَّثَلَ
mathala
the example
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
كَمَآءٍ
kamāin
like water
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhu
which We send down
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
فَٱخْتَلَطَ
fa-ikh'talaṭa
then mingles
بِهِۦ
bihi
with it
نَبَاتُ
nabātu
(the) vegetation
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
(of) the earth
فَأَصْبَحَ
fa-aṣbaḥa
then becomes
هَشِيمًا
hashīman
dry stalks
تَذْرُوهُ
tadhrūhu
it (is) scattered
ٱلرِّيَـٰحُ
l-riyāḥu
(by) the winds
وَكَانَ
wakāna
And Allah
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
And Allah
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
مُّقْتَدِرًا
muq'tadiran
(is) All Able
And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it1 and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allāh is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability.

18:46
Ayah 18:46
ٱلْمَالُ وَٱلْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا
ٱلْمَالُ
al-mālu
The wealth
وَٱلْبَنُونَ
wal-banūna
and children
زِينَةُ
zīnatu
(are) adornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ
wal-bāqiyātu
But the enduring
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ
l-ṣāliḥātu
good deeds
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(are) better
عِندَ
ʿinda
near
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
ثَوَابًا
thawāban
(for) reward
وَخَيْرٌ
wakhayrun
and better
أَمَلًا
amalan
(for) hope
Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord1 for reward and better for [one's] hope.

18:47
Ayah 18:47
وَيَوْمَ نُسَيِّرُ ٱلْجِبَالَ وَتَرَى ٱلْأَرْضَ بَارِزَةً وَحَشَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَلَمْ نُغَادِرْ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
And the Day
نُسَيِّرُ
nusayyiru
We will cause (to) move
ٱلْجِبَالَ
l-jibāla
the mountains
وَتَرَى
watarā
and you will see
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
the earth
بَارِزَةً
bārizatan
(as) a leveled plain
وَحَشَرْنَـٰهُمْ
waḥasharnāhum
and We will gather them
فَلَمْ
falam
and not
نُغَادِرْ
nughādir
We will leave behind
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
from them
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
anyone
And [warn of] the Day when We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth exposed,1 and We will gather them and not leave behind from them anyone.

18:48
Ayah 18:48
وَعُرِضُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ صَفًّا لَّقَدْ جِئْتُمُونَا كَمَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۭ ۚ بَلْ زَعَمْتُمْ أَلَّن نَّجْعَلَ لَكُم مَّوْعِدًا
وَعُرِضُوا۟
waʿuriḍū
And they will be presented
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
before
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
صَفًّا
ṣaffan
(in) rows
لَّقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
جِئْتُمُونَا
ji'tumūnā
you have come to Us
كَمَا
kamā
as
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ
khalaqnākum
We created you
أَوَّلَ
awwala
the first
مَرَّةٍۭ
marratin
time
بَلْ
bal
Nay
زَعَمْتُمْ
zaʿamtum
you claimed
أَلَّن
allan
that not
نَّجْعَلَ
najʿala
We made
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مَّوْعِدًا
mawʿidan
an appointment
And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, [and He will say], "You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make for you an appointment."

18:49
Ayah 18:49
وَوُضِعَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ فَتَرَى ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ مُشْفِقِينَ مِمَّا فِيهِ وَيَقُولُونَ يَـٰوَيْلَتَنَا مَالِ هَـٰذَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَا يُغَادِرُ صَغِيرَةً وَلَا كَبِيرَةً إِلَّآ أَحْصَىٰهَا ۚ وَوَجَدُوا۟ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ حَاضِرًا ۗ وَلَا يَظْلِمُ رَبُّكَ أَحَدًا
وَوُضِعَ
wawuḍiʿa
And (will) be placed
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ
l-kitābu
the Book
فَتَرَى
fatarā
and you will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
l-muj'rimīna
the criminals
مُشْفِقِينَ
mush'fiqīna
fearful
مِمَّا
mimmā
of what
فِيهِ
fīhi
(is) in it
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūna
and they will say
يَـٰوَيْلَتَنَا
yāwaylatanā
Oh, woe to us
مَالِ
māli
What (is) for
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi
[the] Book
لَا
not
يُغَادِرُ
yughādiru
leaves
صَغِيرَةً
ṣaghīratan
a small
وَلَا
walā
and not
كَبِيرَةً
kabīratan
a great
إِلَّآ
illā
except
أَحْصَىٰهَا
aḥṣāhā
has enumerated it
وَوَجَدُوا۟
wawajadū
And they will find
مَا
what
عَمِلُوا۟
ʿamilū
they did
حَاضِرًا
ḥāḍiran
presented
وَلَا
walā
And not
يَظْلِمُ
yaẓlimu
deals unjustly
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka
your Lord
أَحَدًا
aḥadan
(with) anyone
And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.

18:50
Ayah 18:50
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِۦٓ ۗ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِى وَهُمْ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّۢ ۚ بِئْسَ لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ بَدَلًا
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قُلْنَا
qul'nā
We said
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikati
to the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟
us'judū
Prostrate
لِـَٔادَمَ
liādama
to Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
fasajadū
so they prostrated
إِلَّآ
illā
except
إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsa
Iblis
كَانَ
kāna
(He) was
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْجِنِّ
l-jini
the jinn
فَفَسَقَ
fafasaqa
and he rebelled
عَنْ
ʿan
against
أَمْرِ
amri
the Command
رَبِّهِۦٓ
rabbihi
(of) his Lord
أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ
afatattakhidhūnahu
Will you then take him
وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ
wadhurriyyatahu
and his offspring
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa
(as) protectors
مِن
min
other than Me
دُونِى
dūnī
other than Me
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
لَكُمْ
lakum
(are) to you
عَدُوٌّۢ
ʿaduwwun
enemies
بِئْسَ
bi'sa
Wretched
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers
بَدَلًا
badalan
(is) the exchange
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from [i.e., disobeyed] the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.

18:51
Ayah 18:51
۞ مَّآ أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ خَلْقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا خَلْقَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا كُنتُ مُتَّخِذَ ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ عَضُدًا
مَّآ
Not
أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ
ashhadttuhum
I made them witness
خَلْقَ
khalqa
the creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَلَا
walā
and not
خَلْقَ
khalqa
the creation
أَنفُسِهِمْ
anfusihim
(of) themselves
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كُنتُ
kuntu
I Am
مُتَّخِذَ
muttakhidha
the One to take
ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ
l-muḍilīna
the misleaders
عَضُدًا
ʿaḍudan
(as) helper(s)
I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants.

18:52
Ayah 18:52
وَيَوْمَ يَقُولُ نَادُوا۟ شُرَكَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُمْ فَدَعَوْهُمْ فَلَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّوْبِقًا
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
And the Day
يَقُولُ
yaqūlu
He will say
نَادُوا۟
nādū
Call
شُرَكَآءِىَ
shurakāiya
My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
زَعَمْتُمْ
zaʿamtum
you claimed
فَدَعَوْهُمْ
fadaʿawhum
then they will call them
فَلَمْ
falam
but not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
yastajībū
they will respond
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnā
And We will make
بَيْنَهُم
baynahum
between them
مَّوْبِقًا
mawbiqan
a barrier
And [warn of] the Day when He will say, "Call My 'partners' whom you claimed," and they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them. And We will put between them [a valley of] destruction.

18:53
Ayah 18:53
وَرَءَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ ٱلنَّارَ فَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُم مُّوَاقِعُوهَا وَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ عَنْهَا مَصْرِفًا
وَرَءَا
waraā
And will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
l-muj'rimūna
the criminals
ٱلنَّارَ
l-nāra
the Fire
فَظَنُّوٓا۟
faẓannū
and they (will be) certain
أَنَّهُم
annahum
that they
مُّوَاقِعُوهَا
muwāqiʿūhā
are to fall in it
وَلَمْ
walam
And not
يَجِدُوا۟
yajidū
they will find
عَنْهَا
ʿanhā
from it
مَصْرِفًا
maṣrifan
a way of escape
And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere.

18:54
Ayah 18:54
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَكْثَرَ شَىْءٍ جَدَلًا
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And certainly
صَرَّفْنَا
ṣarrafnā
We have explained
فِى
in
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
ٱلْقُرْءَانِ
l-qur'āni
the Quran
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsi
for mankind
مِن
min
of
كُلِّ
kulli
every
مَثَلٍ
mathalin
example
وَكَانَ
wakāna
But is
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
the man

(in) most
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
جَدَلًا
jadalan
quarrelsome
And We have certainly diversified in this Qur’ān for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute.

18:55
Ayah 18:55
وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ قُبُلًا
وَمَا
wamā
And nothing
مَنَعَ
manaʿa
prevents
ٱلنَّاسَ
l-nāsa
men
أَن
an
that
يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟
yu'minū
they believe
إِذْ
idh
when
جَآءَهُمُ
jāahumu
has come to them
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudā
the guidance
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟
wayastaghfirū
and they ask forgiveness
رَبَّهُمْ
rabbahum
(of) their Lord
إِلَّآ
illā
except
أَن
an
that
تَأْتِيَهُمْ
tatiyahum
comes to them
سُنَّةُ
sunnatu
(the) way
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
أَوْ
aw
or
يَأْتِيَهُمُ
yatiyahumu
comes to them
ٱلْعَذَابُ
l-ʿadhābu
the punishment
قُبُلًا
qubulan
before (them)
And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples1 or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.

18:56
Ayah 18:56
وَمَا نُرْسِلُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ ۚ وَيُجَـٰدِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا۟ بِهِ ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِى وَمَآ أُنذِرُوا۟ هُزُوًا
وَمَا
wamā
And not
نُرْسِلُ
nur'silu
We send
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
إِلَّا
illā
except
مُبَشِّرِينَ
mubashirīna
(as) bearers of glad tidings
وَمُنذِرِينَ
wamundhirīna
and (as) warners
وَيُجَـٰدِلُ
wayujādilu
And dispute
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ
bil-bāṭili
with falsehood
لِيُدْحِضُوا۟
liyud'ḥiḍū
to refute
بِهِ
bihi
thereby
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa
the truth
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟
wa-ittakhadhū
And they take
ءَايَـٰتِى
āyātī
My Verses
وَمَآ
wamā
and what
أُنذِرُوا۟
undhirū
they are warned
هُزُوًا
huzuwan
(in) ridicule
And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule.

18:57
Ayah 18:57
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا وَنَسِىَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ ۚ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۖ وَإِن تَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَلَن يَهْتَدُوٓا۟ إِذًا أَبَدًا
وَمَنْ
waman
And who
أَظْلَمُ
aẓlamu
(is) more wrong
مِمَّن
mimman
than (he) who
ذُكِّرَ
dhukkira
is reminded
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyāti
of the Verses
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihi
(of) his Lord
فَأَعْرَضَ
fa-aʿraḍa
but turns away
عَنْهَا
ʿanhā
from them
وَنَسِىَ
wanasiya
and forgets
مَا
what
قَدَّمَتْ
qaddamat
have sent forth
يَدَاهُ
yadāhu
his hands
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnā
[We] have placed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihim
their hearts
أَكِنَّةً
akinnatan
coverings
أَن
an
lest
يَفْقَهُوهُ
yafqahūhu
they understand it
وَفِىٓ
wafī
and in
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
ādhānihim
their ears
وَقْرًا
waqran
(is) deafness
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
تَدْعُهُمْ
tadʿuhum
you call them
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudā
the guidance
فَلَن
falan
then never
يَهْتَدُوٓا۟
yahtadū
they will be guided
إِذًا
idhan
then
أَبَدًا
abadan
ever
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.

18:58
Ayah 18:58
وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۖ لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُهُم بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ بَل لَّهُم مَّوْعِدٌ لَّن يَجِدُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَوْئِلًا
وَرَبُّكَ
warabbuka
And your Lord
ٱلْغَفُورُ
l-ghafūru
(is) the Most Forgiving
ذُو
dhū
Owner
ٱلرَّحْمَةِ
l-raḥmati
(of) the Mercy
لَوْ
law
If
يُؤَاخِذُهُم
yuākhidhuhum
He were to seize them
بِمَا
bimā
for what
كَسَبُوا۟
kasabū
they have earned
لَعَجَّلَ
laʿajjala
surely, He (would) have hastened
لَهُمُ
lahumu
for them
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
بَل
bal
But
لَّهُم
lahum
for them
مَّوْعِدٌ
mawʿidun
(is) an appointment
لَّن
lan
never
يَجِدُوا۟
yajidū
they will find
مِن
min
other than it
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihi
other than it
مَوْئِلًا
mawilan
an escape
And your Lord is the Forgiving, the possessor of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.

18:59
Ayah 18:59
وَتِلْكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ لَمَّا ظَلَمُوا۟ وَجَعَلْنَا لِمَهْلِكِهِم مَّوْعِدًا
وَتِلْكَ
watil'ka
And these
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurā
[the] towns
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ
ahlaknāhum
We destroyed them
لَمَّا
lammā
when
ظَلَمُوا۟
ẓalamū
they wronged
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnā
and We made
لِمَهْلِكِهِم
limahlikihim
for their destruction
مَّوْعِدًا
mawʿidan
an appointed time
And those cities - We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time.

18:60
Ayah 18:60
وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِفَتَىٰهُ لَآ أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰٓ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِىَ حُقُبًا
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قَالَ
qāla
said
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
لِفَتَىٰهُ
lifatāhu
to his boy
لَآ
Not
أَبْرَحُ
abraḥu
I will cease
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
أَبْلُغَ
ablugha
I reach
مَجْمَعَ
majmaʿa
the junction
ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ
l-baḥrayni
(of) the two seas
أَوْ
aw
or
أَمْضِىَ
amḍiya
I continue
حُقُبًا
ḥuquban
(for) a long period
And [mention] when Moses said to his boy [i.e., servant], "I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period."

18:61
Ayah 18:61
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجْمَعَ بَيْنِهِمَا نَسِيَا حُوتَهُمَا فَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُۥ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ سَرَبًا
فَلَمَّا
falammā
But when
بَلَغَا
balaghā
they reached
مَجْمَعَ
majmaʿa
the junction
بَيْنِهِمَا
baynihimā
between them
نَسِيَا
nasiyā
they forgot
حُوتَهُمَا
ḥūtahumā
their fish
فَٱتَّخَذَ
fa-ittakhadha
and it took
سَبِيلَهُۥ
sabīlahu
its way
فِى
into
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
سَرَبًا
saraban
slipping away
But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it took its course into the sea, slipping away.

18:62
Ayah 18:62
فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتَىٰهُ ءَاتِنَا غَدَآءَنَا لَقَدْ لَقِينَا مِن سَفَرِنَا هَـٰذَا نَصَبًا
فَلَمَّا
falammā
Then when
جَاوَزَا
jāwazā
they had passed beyond
قَالَ
qāla
he said
لِفَتَىٰهُ
lifatāhu
to his boy
ءَاتِنَا
ātinā
Bring us
غَدَآءَنَا
ghadāanā
our morning meal
لَقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
لَقِينَا
laqīnā
we have suffered
مِن
min
in
سَفَرِنَا
safarinā
our journey
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
نَصَبًا
naṣaban
fatigue
So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, "Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue."

18:63
Ayah 18:63
قَالَ أَرَءَيْتَ إِذْ أَوَيْنَآ إِلَى ٱلصَّخْرَةِ فَإِنِّى نَسِيتُ ٱلْحُوتَ وَمَآ أَنسَىٰنِيهُ إِلَّا ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَهُۥ ۚ وَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُۥ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ عَجَبًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَرَءَيْتَ
ara-ayta
Did you see
إِذْ
idh
when
أَوَيْنَآ
awaynā
we retired
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلصَّخْرَةِ
l-ṣakhrati
the rock
فَإِنِّى
fa-innī
Then indeed, I
نَسِيتُ
nasītu
[I] forgot
ٱلْحُوتَ
l-ḥūta
the fish
وَمَآ
wamā
And not
أَنسَىٰنِيهُ
ansānīhu
made me forget it
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu
the Shaitaan
أَنْ
an
that
أَذْكُرَهُۥ
adhkurahu
I mention it
وَٱتَّخَذَ
wa-ittakhadha
And it took
سَبِيلَهُۥ
sabīlahu
its way
فِى
into
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
عَجَبًا
ʿajaban
amazingly
He said, "Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan - that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly."

18:64
Ayah 18:64
قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبْغِ ۚ فَٱرْتَدَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
مَا
(is) what
كُنَّا
kunnā
we were
نَبْغِ
nabghi
seeking
فَٱرْتَدَّا
fa-ir'taddā
So they returned
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
ءَاثَارِهِمَا
āthārihimā
their footprints
قَصَصًا
qaṣaṣan
retracing
[Moses] said, "That is what we were seeking." So they returned, following their footprints.

18:65
Ayah 18:65
فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِّنْ عِبَادِنَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًا
فَوَجَدَا
fawajadā
Then they found
عَبْدًا
ʿabdan
a servant
مِّنْ
min
from
عِبَادِنَآ
ʿibādinā
Our servants
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
ātaynāhu
whom We had given
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
mercy
مِّنْ
min
from
عِندِنَا
ʿindinā
Us
وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ
waʿallamnāhu
and We had taught him
مِن
min
from
لَّدُنَّا
ladunnā
Us
عِلْمًا
ʿil'man
a knowledge
And they found a servant from among Our servants [i.e., al-Khiḍr] to whom We had given mercy from Us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge.

18:66
Ayah 18:66
قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ هَلْ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْدًا
قَالَ
qāla
Said
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
هَلْ
hal
May
أَتَّبِعُكَ
attabiʿuka
I follow you
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
أَن
an
that
تُعَلِّمَنِ
tuʿallimani
you teach me
مِمَّا
mimmā
of what
عُلِّمْتَ
ʿullim'ta
you have been taught
رُشْدًا
rush'dan
(of) right guidance
Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"

18:67
Ayah 18:67
قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
لَن
lan
never
تَسْتَطِيعَ
tastaṭīʿa
will be able
مَعِىَ
maʿiya
with me
صَبْرًا
ṣabran
(to have) patience
He said, "Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience.

18:68
Ayah 18:68
وَكَيْفَ تَصْبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِۦ خُبْرًا
وَكَيْفَ
wakayfa
And how can
تَصْبِرُ
taṣbiru
you have patience
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
for
مَا
what
لَمْ
lam
not
تُحِطْ
tuḥiṭ
you encompass
بِهِۦ
bihi
of it
خُبْرًا
khub'ran
any knowledge
And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?"

18:69
Ayah 18:69
قَالَ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ صَابِرًا وَلَآ أَعْصِى لَكَ أَمْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ
satajidunī
You will find me
إِن
in
if
شَآءَ
shāa
Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah wills
صَابِرًا
ṣābiran
patient
وَلَآ
walā
and not
أَعْصِى
aʿṣī
I will disobey
لَكَ
laka
your
أَمْرًا
amran
order
[Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allāh wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order."

18:70
Ayah 18:70
قَالَ فَإِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتَنِى فَلَا تَسْـَٔلْنِى عَن شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰٓ أُحْدِثَ لَكَ مِنْهُ ذِكْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَإِنِ
fa-ini
Then if
ٱتَّبَعْتَنِى
ittabaʿtanī
you follow me
فَلَا
falā
(do) not
تَسْـَٔلْنِى
tasalnī
ask me
عَن
ʿan
about
شَىْءٍ
shayin
anything
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
أُحْدِثَ
uḥ'ditha
I present
لَكَ
laka
to you
مِنْهُ
min'hu
of it
ذِكْرًا
dhik'ran
a mention
He said, "Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention [i.e., explanation]."

18:71
Ayah 18:71
فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَكِبَا فِى ٱلسَّفِينَةِ خَرَقَهَا ۖ قَالَ أَخَرَقْتَهَا لِتُغْرِقَ أَهْلَهَا لَقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْـًٔا إِمْرًا
فَٱنطَلَقَا
fa-inṭalaqā
So they both set out
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَا
idhā
when
رَكِبَا
rakibā
they had embarked
فِى
on
ٱلسَّفِينَةِ
l-safīnati
the ship
خَرَقَهَا
kharaqahā
he made a hole in it
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَخَرَقْتَهَا
akharaqtahā
Have you made a hole in it
لِتُغْرِقَ
litugh'riqa
to drown
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahā
its people
لَقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
جِئْتَ
ji'ta
you have done
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
a thing
إِمْرًا
im'ran
grave
So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] tore it open. [Moses] said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing."

18:72
Ayah 18:72
قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَلَمْ
alam
Did not
أَقُلْ
aqul
I say
إِنَّكَ
innaka
indeed, you
لَن
lan
never
تَسْتَطِيعَ
tastaṭīʿa
will be able
مَعِىَ
maʿiya
with me
صَبْرًا
ṣabran
(to have) patience
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "Did I not say that with me you would never be able to have patience?"

18:73
Ayah 18:73
قَالَ لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِى بِمَا نَسِيتُ وَلَا تُرْهِقْنِى مِنْ أَمْرِى عُسْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
لَا
(Do) not
تُؤَاخِذْنِى
tuākhidh'nī
blame me
بِمَا
bimā
for what
نَسِيتُ
nasītu
I forgot
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تُرْهِقْنِى
tur'hiq'nī
be hard (upon) me
مِنْ
min
in
أَمْرِى
amrī
my affair
عُسْرًا
ʿus'ran
(raising) difficulty
[Moses] said, "Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not overwhelm me in my matter with difficulty."

18:74
Ayah 18:74
فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا لَقِيَا غُلَـٰمًا فَقَتَلَهُۥ قَالَ أَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا زَكِيَّةًۢ بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ لَّقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْـًٔا نُّكْرًا
فَٱنطَلَقَا
fa-inṭalaqā
Then they both set out
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَا
idhā
when
لَقِيَا
laqiyā
they met
غُلَـٰمًا
ghulāman
a boy
فَقَتَلَهُۥ
faqatalahu
then he killed him
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَقَتَلْتَ
aqatalta
Have you killed
نَفْسًا
nafsan
a soul
زَكِيَّةًۢ
zakiyyatan
pure
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
for other than
نَفْسٍ
nafsin
a soul
لَّقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
جِئْتَ
ji'ta
you have done
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
a thing
نُّكْرًا
nuk'ran
evil
So they set out, until when they met a boy, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing."

18:75
Ayah 18:75
۞ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَلَمْ
alam
Did not
أَقُل
aqul
I say
لَّكَ
laka
to you
إِنَّكَ
innaka
that you
لَن
lan
never
تَسْتَطِيعَ
tastaṭīʿa
will be able
مَعِىَ
maʿiya
with me
صَبْرًا
ṣabran
(to have) patience
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?"

18:76
Ayah 18:76
قَالَ إِن سَأَلْتُكَ عَن شَىْءٍۭ بَعْدَهَا فَلَا تُصَـٰحِبْنِى ۖ قَدْ بَلَغْتَ مِن لَّدُنِّى عُذْرًا
قَالَ

He said
إِن
in
If
سَأَلْتُكَ
sa-altuka
I ask you
عَن
ʿan
about
شَىْءٍۭ
shayin
anything
بَعْدَهَا
baʿdahā
after it
فَلَا
falā
then (do) not
تُصَـٰحِبْنِى
tuṣāḥib'nī
keep me as a companion
قَدْ
qad
Verily
بَلَغْتَ
balaghta
you have reached
مِن
min
from me
لَّدُنِّى
ladunnī
from me
عُذْرًا
ʿudh'ran
an excuse
[Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse."

18:77
Ayah 18:77
فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَتَيَآ أَهْلَ قَرْيَةٍ ٱسْتَطْعَمَآ أَهْلَهَا فَأَبَوْا۟ أَن يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا فَوَجَدَا فِيهَا جِدَارًا يُرِيدُ أَن يَنقَضَّ فَأَقَامَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ لَوْ شِئْتَ لَتَّخَذْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا
فَٱنطَلَقَا
fa-inṭalaqā
So they set out
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَآ
idhā
when
أَتَيَآ
atayā
they came
أَهْلَ
ahla
(to the) people
قَرْيَةٍ
qaryatin
(of) a town
ٱسْتَطْعَمَآ
is'taṭʿamā
they asked for food
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahā
(from) its people
فَأَبَوْا۟
fa-abaw
but they refused
أَن
an
to
يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا
yuḍayyifūhumā
offer them hospitality
فَوَجَدَا
fawajadā
Then they found
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
جِدَارًا
jidāran
a wall
يُرِيدُ
yurīdu
(that) want(ed)
أَن
an
to
يَنقَضَّ
yanqaḍḍa
collapse
فَأَقَامَهُۥ
fa-aqāmahu
so he set it straight
قَالَ
qāla
He said
لَوْ
law
If
شِئْتَ
shi'ta
you wished
لَتَّخَذْتَ
lattakhadhta
surely you (could) have taken
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for it
أَجْرًا
ajran
a payment
So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] restored it. [Moses] said, "If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment."

18:78
Ayah 18:78
قَالَ هَـٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنِكَ ۚ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
فِرَاقُ
firāqu
(is) parting
بَيْنِى
baynī
between me
وَبَيْنِكَ
wabaynika
and between you
سَأُنَبِّئُكَ
sa-unabbi-uka
I will inform you
بِتَأْوِيلِ
bitawīli
of (the) interpretation
مَا
(of) what
لَمْ
lam
not
تَسْتَطِع
tastaṭiʿ
you were able
عَّلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
on it
صَبْرًا
ṣabran
(to have) patience
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.

18:79
Ayah 18:79
أَمَّا ٱلسَّفِينَةُ فَكَانَتْ لِمَسَـٰكِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ فَأَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَعِيبَهَا وَكَانَ وَرَآءَهُم مَّلِكٌ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًا
أَمَّا
ammā
As for
ٱلسَّفِينَةُ
l-safīnatu
the ship
فَكَانَتْ
fakānat
it was
لِمَسَـٰكِينَ
limasākīna
of (the) poor people
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūna
working
فِى
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
فَأَرَدتُّ
fa-aradttu
So I intended
أَنْ
an
that
أَعِيبَهَا
aʿībahā
I cause defect (in) it
وَكَانَ
wakāna
(as there) was
وَرَآءَهُم
warāahum
after them
مَّلِكٌ
malikun
a king
يَأْخُذُ
yakhudhu
who seized
كُلَّ
kulla
every
سَفِينَةٍ
safīnatin
ship
غَصْبًا
ghaṣban
(by) force
As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force.

18:80
Ayah 18:80
وَأَمَّا ٱلْغُلَـٰمُ فَكَانَ أَبَوَاهُ مُؤْمِنَيْنِ فَخَشِينَآ أَن يُرْهِقَهُمَا طُغْيَـٰنًا وَكُفْرًا
وَأَمَّا
wa-ammā
And as for
ٱلْغُلَـٰمُ
l-ghulāmu
the boy
فَكَانَ
fakāna
his parents were
أَبَوَاهُ
abawāhu
his parents were
مُؤْمِنَيْنِ
mu'minayni
believers
فَخَشِينَآ
fakhashīnā
and we feared
أَن
an
that
يُرْهِقَهُمَا
yur'hiqahumā
he would overburden them
طُغْيَـٰنًا
ṭugh'yānan
(by) transgression
وَكُفْرًا
wakuf'ran
and disbelief
And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief.

18:81
Ayah 18:81
فَأَرَدْنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُ زَكَوٰةً وَأَقْرَبَ رُحْمًا
فَأَرَدْنَآ
fa-aradnā
So we intended
أَن
an
that
يُبْدِلَهُمَا
yub'dilahumā
would change for them
رَبُّهُمَا
rabbuhumā
their Lord
خَيْرًا
khayran
a better
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
than him
زَكَوٰةً
zakatan
(in) purity
وَأَقْرَبَ
wa-aqraba
and nearer
رُحْمًا
ruḥ'man
(in) affection
So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.

18:82
Ayah 18:82
وَأَمَّا ٱلْجِدَارُ فَكَانَ لِغُلَـٰمَيْنِ يَتِيمَيْنِ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانَ تَحْتَهُۥ كَنزٌ لَّهُمَا وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَـٰلِحًا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَن يَبْلُغَآ أَشُدَّهُمَا وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا كَنزَهُمَا رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا فَعَلْتُهُۥ عَنْ أَمْرِى ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
وَأَمَّا
wa-ammā
And as for
ٱلْجِدَارُ
l-jidāru
the wall
فَكَانَ
fakāna
it was
لِغُلَـٰمَيْنِ
lighulāmayni
for two orphan boys
يَتِيمَيْنِ
yatīmayni
for two orphan boys
فِى
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnati
the town
وَكَانَ
wakāna
and was
تَحْتَهُۥ
taḥtahu
underneath it
كَنزٌ
kanzun
a treasure
لَّهُمَا
lahumā
for them
وَكَانَ
wakāna
and was
أَبُوهُمَا
abūhumā
their father
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteous
فَأَرَادَ
fa-arāda
So intended
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka
your Lord
أَن
an
that
يَبْلُغَآ
yablughā
they reach
أَشُدَّهُمَا
ashuddahumā
their maturity
وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا
wayastakhrijā
and bring forth
كَنزَهُمَا
kanzahumā
their treasure
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
(as) a mercy
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
وَمَا
wamā
And not
فَعَلْتُهُۥ
faʿaltuhu
I did it
عَنْ
ʿan
on
أَمْرِى
amrī
my (own) accord
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
تَأْوِيلُ
tawīlu
(is the) interpretation
مَا
(of) what
لَمْ
lam
not
تَسْطِع
tasṭiʿ
you were able
عَّلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
on it
صَبْرًا
ṣabran
(to have) patience
And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."

18:83
Ayah 18:83
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَن ذِى ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ ۖ قُلْ سَأَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْهُ ذِكْرًا
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
wayasalūnaka
And they ask you
عَن
ʿan
about
ذِى
dhī
Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ
l-qarnayni
Dhul-qarnain
قُلْ
qul
Say
سَأَتْلُوا۟
sa-atlū
I will recite
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykum
to you
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
about him
ذِكْرًا
dhik'ran
a remembrance
And they ask you, [O Muḥammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report."

18:84
Ayah 18:84
إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ سَبَبًا
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
مَكَّنَّا
makkannā
[We] established
لَهُۥ
lahu
[for] him
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
waātaynāhu
and We gave him
مِن
min
of
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
سَبَبًا
sababan
a means
Indeed, We established him upon the earth, and We gave him from everything a way [i.e., means].

18:85
Ayah 18:85
فَأَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
فَأَتْبَعَ
fa-atbaʿa
So he followed
سَبَبًا
sababan
a course
So he followed a way

18:86
Ayah 18:86
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغْرِبَ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغْرُبُ فِى عَيْنٍ حَمِئَةٍ وَوَجَدَ عِندَهَا قَوْمًا ۗ قُلْنَا يَـٰذَا ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ إِمَّآ أَن تُعَذِّبَ وَإِمَّآ أَن تَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمْ حُسْنًا
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
Until
إِذَا
idhā
when
بَلَغَ
balagha
he reached
مَغْرِبَ
maghriba
(the) setting place
ٱلشَّمْسِ
l-shamsi
(of) the sun
وَجَدَهَا
wajadahā
he found it
تَغْرُبُ
taghrubu
setting
فِى
in
عَيْنٍ
ʿaynin
a spring
حَمِئَةٍ
ḥami-atin
(of) dark mud
وَوَجَدَ
wawajada
and he found
عِندَهَا
ʿindahā
near it
قَوْمًا
qawman
a community
قُلْنَا
qul'nā
We said
يَـٰذَا
yādhā
O Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ
l-qarnayni
O Dhul-qarnain
إِمَّآ
immā
Either
أَن
an
[that]
تُعَذِّبَ
tuʿadhiba
you punish
وَإِمَّآ
wa-immā
or
أَن
an
[that]
تَتَّخِذَ
tattakhidha
you take
فِيهِمْ
fīhim
[in] them
حُسْنًا
ḥus'nan
(with) goodness
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun [i.e., the west], he found it [as if] setting in a body of dark water,1 and he found near it a people. We [i.e., Allāh] said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness."

18:87
Ayah 18:87
قَالَ أَمَّا مَن ظَلَمَ فَسَوْفَ نُعَذِّبُهُۥ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥ عَذَابًا نُّكْرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَمَّا
ammā
As for
مَن
man
(one) who
ظَلَمَ
ẓalama
wrongs
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
then soon
نُعَذِّبُهُۥ
nuʿadhibuhu
we will punish him
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
يُرَدُّ
yuraddu
he will be returned
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihi
his Lord
فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥ
fayuʿadhibuhu
and He will punish him
عَذَابًا
ʿadhāban
(with) a punishment
نُّكْرًا
nuk'ran
terrible
He said, "As for one who wrongs,1 we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment [i.e., Hellfire].

18:88
Ayah 18:88
وَأَمَّا مَنْ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا فَلَهُۥ جَزَآءً ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ وَسَنَقُولُ لَهُۥ مِنْ أَمْرِنَا يُسْرًا
وَأَمَّا
wa-ammā
But as for
مَنْ
man
(one) who
ءَامَنَ
āmana
believes
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamila
and does
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
فَلَهُۥ
falahu
then for him
جَزَآءً
jazāan
(is) a reward
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
l-ḥus'nā
good
وَسَنَقُولُ
wasanaqūlu
And we will speak
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
مِنْ
min
from
أَمْرِنَا
amrinā
our command
يُسْرًا
yus'ran
(with) ease
But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of the best [i.e., Paradise], and we [i.e., Dhul-Qarnayn] will speak to him from our command with ease."

18:89
Ayah 18:89
ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
أَتْبَعَ
atbaʿa
he followed
سَبَبًا
sababan
(a) course
Then he followed a way

18:90
Ayah 18:90
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَطْلِعَ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَطْلُعُ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ لَّمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُم مِّن دُونِهَا سِتْرًا
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
Until
إِذَا
idhā
when
بَلَغَ
balagha
he reached
مَطْلِعَ
maṭliʿa
(the) rising place
ٱلشَّمْسِ
l-shamsi
(of) the sun
وَجَدَهَا
wajadahā
and he found it
تَطْلُعُ
taṭluʿu
rising
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
قَوْمٍ
qawmin
a community
لَّمْ
lam
not
نَجْعَل
najʿal
We made
لَّهُم
lahum
for them
مِّن
min
against it
دُونِهَا
dūnihā
against it
سِتْرًا
sit'ran
any shelter
Until, when he came to the rising of the sun [i.e., the east], he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield.

18:91
Ayah 18:91
كَذَٰلِكَ وَقَدْ أَحَطْنَا بِمَا لَدَيْهِ خُبْرًا
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
وَقَدْ
waqad
And verily
أَحَطْنَا
aḥaṭnā
We encompassed
بِمَا
bimā
of what
لَدَيْهِ
ladayhi
(was) with him
خُبْرًا
khub'ran
(of the) information
Thus.1 And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge.

18:92
Ayah 18:92
ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
أَتْبَعَ
atbaʿa
he followed
سَبَبًا
sababan
a course
Then he followed a way.

18:93
Ayah 18:93
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَيْنَ ٱلسَّدَّيْنِ وَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمَا قَوْمًا لَّا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ قَوْلًا
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
Until
إِذَا
idhā
when
بَلَغَ
balagha
he reached
بَيْنَ
bayna
between
ٱلسَّدَّيْنِ
l-sadayni
the two mountains
وَجَدَ
wajada
he found
مِن
min
besides them
دُونِهِمَا
dūnihimā
besides them
قَوْمًا
qawman
a community
لَّا
not
يَكَادُونَ
yakādūna
who would almost
يَفْقَهُونَ
yafqahūna
understand
قَوْلًا
qawlan
(his) speech
Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech.

18:94
Ayah 18:94
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰذَا ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ إِنَّ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ مُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَكَ خَرْجًا عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَجْعَلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ سَدًّا
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
يَـٰذَا
yādhā
O Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ
l-qarnayni
O Dhul-qarnain
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
يَأْجُوجَ
yajūja
Yajuj
وَمَأْجُوجَ
wamajūja
and Majuj
مُفْسِدُونَ
muf'sidūna
(are) corrupters
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
فَهَلْ
fahal
So may
نَجْعَلُ
najʿalu
we make
لَكَ
laka
for you
خَرْجًا
kharjan
an expenditure
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
[on]
أَن
an
that
تَجْعَلَ
tajʿala
you make
بَيْنَنَا
baynanā
between us
وَبَيْنَهُمْ
wabaynahum
and between them
سَدًّا
saddan
a barrier
They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog1 are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?"

18:95
Ayah 18:95
قَالَ مَا مَكَّنِّى فِيهِ رَبِّى خَيْرٌ فَأَعِينُونِى بِقُوَّةٍ أَجْعَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ رَدْمًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
مَا
What
مَكَّنِّى
makkannī
has established me
فِيهِ
fīhi
[in it]
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is) better
فَأَعِينُونِى
fa-aʿīnūnī
but assist me
بِقُوَّةٍ
biquwwatin
with strength
أَجْعَلْ
ajʿal
I will make
بَيْنَكُمْ
baynakum
between you
وَبَيْنَهُمْ
wabaynahum
and between them
رَدْمًا
radman
a barrier
He said, "That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength [i.e., manpower]; I will make between you and them a dam.

18:96
Ayah 18:96
ءَاتُونِى زُبَرَ ٱلْحَدِيدِ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا سَاوَىٰ بَيْنَ ٱلصَّدَفَيْنِ قَالَ ٱنفُخُوا۟ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَعَلَهُۥ نَارًا قَالَ ءَاتُونِىٓ أُفْرِغْ عَلَيْهِ قِطْرًا
ءَاتُونِى
ātūnī
Bring me
زُبَرَ
zubara
sheets
ٱلْحَدِيدِ
l-ḥadīdi
(of) iron
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَا
idhā
when
سَاوَىٰ
sāwā
he (had) leveled
بَيْنَ
bayna
between
ٱلصَّدَفَيْنِ
l-ṣadafayni
the two cliffs
قَالَ
qāla
he said
ٱنفُخُوا۟
unfukhū
Blow
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَا
idhā
when
جَعَلَهُۥ
jaʿalahu
he made it
نَارًا
nāran
fire
قَالَ
qāla
he said
ءَاتُونِىٓ
ātūnī
Bring me
أُفْرِغْ
uf'righ
I pour
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
over it
قِطْرًا
qiṭ'ran
molten copper
Bring me bars of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper."

18:97
Ayah 18:97
فَمَا ٱسْطَـٰعُوٓا۟ أَن يَظْهَرُوهُ وَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ لَهُۥ نَقْبًا
فَمَا
famā
So not
ٱسْطَـٰعُوٓا۟
is'ṭāʿū
they were able
أَن
an
to
يَظْهَرُوهُ
yaẓharūhu
scale it
وَمَا
wamā
and not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟
is'taṭāʿū
they were able
لَهُۥ
lahu
in it
نَقْبًا
naqban
(to do) any penetration
So they [i.e., Gog and Magog] were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration.

18:98
Ayah 18:98
قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَحْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّى ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ رَبِّى جَعَلَهُۥ دَكَّآءَ ۖ وَكَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّى حَقًّا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
رَحْمَةٌ
raḥmatun
(is) a mercy
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
But when
جَآءَ
jāa
comes
وَعْدُ
waʿdu
(the) Promise
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
جَعَلَهُۥ
jaʿalahu
He will make it
دَكَّآءَ
dakkāa
level
وَكَانَ
wakāna
And is
وَعْدُ
waʿdu
(the) Promise
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
حَقًّا
ḥaqqan
true
[Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord1 comes [i.e., approaches], He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true."

18:99
Ayah 18:99
۞ وَتَرَكْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَمُوجُ فِى بَعْضٍ ۖ وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ جَمْعًا
وَتَرَكْنَا
wataraknā
And We (will) leave
بَعْضَهُمْ
baʿḍahum

يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
(on) that Day
يَمُوجُ
yamūju
to surge
فِى
over
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍin
others
وَنُفِخَ
wanufikha
and (will be) blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
l-ṣūri
the trumpet
فَجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ
fajamaʿnāhum
then We (will) gather them
جَمْعًا
jamʿan
all together
And We will leave them that day1 surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly.

18:100
Ayah 18:100
وَعَرَضْنَا جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَرْضًا
وَعَرَضْنَا
waʿaraḍnā
And We (will) present
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
Hell
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
(on) that Day
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīna
to the disbelievers
عَرْضًا
ʿarḍan
(on) display
And We will present Hell that Day to the disbelievers, on display -

18:101
Ayah 18:101
ٱلَّذِينَ كَانَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ فِى غِطَآءٍ عَن ذِكْرِى وَكَانُوا۟ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَمْعًا
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those
كَانَتْ
kānat
had been
أَعْيُنُهُمْ
aʿyunuhum
their eyes
فِى
within
غِطَآءٍ
ghiṭāin
a cover
عَن
ʿan
from
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rī
My remembrance
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānū
and were
لَا
not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
yastaṭīʿūna
able
سَمْعًا
samʿan
(to) hear
Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance,1 and they were not able to hear.2

18:102
Ayah 18:102
أَفَحَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَن يَتَّخِذُوا۟ عِبَادِى مِن دُونِىٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۚ إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ نُزُلًا
أَفَحَسِبَ
afaḥasiba
Do then think
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
أَن
an
that
يَتَّخِذُوا۟
yattakhidhū
they (can) take
عِبَادِى
ʿibādī
My servants
مِن
min
besides Me
دُونِىٓ
dūnī
besides Me
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa
(as) protectors
إِنَّآ
innā
Indeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَا
aʿtadnā
We have prepared
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
Hell
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīna
for the disbelievers
نُزُلًا
nuzulan
(as) a lodging
Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.

18:103
Ayah 18:103
قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَـٰلًا
قُلْ
qul
Say
هَلْ
hal
Shall
نُنَبِّئُكُم
nunabbi-ukum
We inform you
بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ
bil-akhsarīna
of the greatest losers
أَعْمَـٰلًا
aʿmālan
(as to their) deeds
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?

18:104
Ayah 18:104
ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those
ضَلَّ
ḍalla
is lost
سَعْيُهُمْ
saʿyuhum
their effort
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
يَحْسَبُونَ
yaḥsabūna
think
أَنَّهُمْ
annahum
that they
يُحْسِنُونَ
yuḥ'sinūna
(were) acquiring good
صُنْعًا
ṣun'ʿan
(in) work
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work."

18:105
Ayah 18:105
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَآئِهِۦ فَحَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَزْنًا
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(are) the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyāti
in the Verses
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَلِقَآئِهِۦ
waliqāihi
and the meeting (with) Him
فَحَبِطَتْ
faḥabiṭat
So (are) vain
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ
aʿmāluhum
their deeds
فَلَا
falā
so not
نُقِيمُ
nuqīmu
We will assign
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on) the Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
وَزْنًا
waznan
any weight
Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any weight [i.e., importance].

18:106
Ayah 18:106
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ بِمَا كَفَرُوا۟ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِى وَرُسُلِى هُزُوًا
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
جَزَآؤُهُمْ
jazāuhum
(is) their recompense
جَهَنَّمُ
jahannamu
Hell
بِمَا
bimā
because
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
they disbelieved
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟
wa-ittakhadhū
and took
ءَايَـٰتِى
āyātī
My Verses
وَرُسُلِى
warusulī
and My Messengers
هُزُوًا
huzuwan
(in) ridicule
That is their recompense - Hell - for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.

18:107
Ayah 18:107
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتُ ٱلْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلًا
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
كَانَتْ
kānat
for them will be
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them will be
جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātu
Gardens
ٱلْفِرْدَوْسِ
l-fir'dawsi
(of) the Paradise
نُزُلًا
nuzulan
(as) a lodging
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise1 as a lodging,

18:108
Ayah 18:108
خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يَبْغُونَ عَنْهَا حِوَلًا
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīna
Abiding forever
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
لَا
Not
يَبْغُونَ
yabghūna
they will desire
عَنْهَا
ʿanhā
from it
حِوَلًا
ḥiwalan
any transfer
Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.

18:109
Ayah 18:109
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ ٱلْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّى لَنَفِدَ ٱلْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَن تَنفَدَ كَلِمَـٰتُ رَبِّى وَلَوْ جِئْنَا بِمِثْلِهِۦ مَدَدًا
قُل
qul
Say
لَّوْ
law
If
كَانَ
kāna
were
ٱلْبَحْرُ
l-baḥru
the sea
مِدَادًا
midādan
ink
لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ
likalimāti
for (the) Words
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
لَنَفِدَ
lanafida
surely (would be) exhausted
ٱلْبَحْرُ
l-baḥru
the sea
قَبْلَ
qabla
before
أَن
an
[that]
تَنفَدَ
tanfada
(were) exhausted
كَلِمَـٰتُ
kalimātu
(the) Words
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
وَلَوْ
walaw
even if
جِئْنَا
ji'nā
We brought
بِمِثْلِهِۦ
bimith'lihi
(the) like (of) it
مَدَدًا
madadan
(as) a supplement
Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words1 of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it in [continual] supplement."

18:110
Ayah 18:110
قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ لِقَآءَ رَبِّهِۦ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَـٰلِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ أَحَدًۢا
قُلْ
qul
Say
إِنَّمَآ
innamā
Only
أَنَا۠
anā
I
بَشَرٌ
basharun
(am) a man
مِّثْلُكُمْ
mith'lukum
like you
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥā
Has been revealed
إِلَىَّ
ilayya
to me
أَنَّمَآ
annamā
that
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ
ilāhukum
your God
إِلَـٰهٌ
ilāhun
(is) God
وَٰحِدٌ
wāḥidun
One
فَمَن
faman
So whoever
كَانَ
kāna
is
يَرْجُوا۟
yarjū
hoping
لِقَآءَ
liqāa
(for the) meeting
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihi
(with) his Lord
فَلْيَعْمَلْ
falyaʿmal
let him do
عَمَلًا
ʿamalan
deeds
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteous
وَلَا
walā
and not
يُشْرِكْ
yush'rik
associate
بِعِبَادَةِ
biʿibādati
in (the) worship
رَبِّهِۦٓ
rabbihi
(of) his Lord
أَحَدًۢا
aḥadan
anyone
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
