20:2
Ayah 20:2
مَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِتَشْقَىٰٓ
مَآ
Not
أَنزَلْنَا
anzalnā
We (have) sent down
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
to you
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
l-qur'āna
the Quran
لِتَشْقَىٰٓ
litashqā
that you be distressed
We have not sent down to you the Qur’ān that you be distressed

20:3
Ayah 20:3
إِلَّا تَذْكِرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ
إِلَّا
illā
(But)
تَذْكِرَةً
tadhkiratan
(as) a reminder
لِّمَن
liman
for (those) who
يَخْشَىٰ
yakhshā
fear
But only as a reminder for those who fear [Allāh] -

20:4
Ayah 20:4
تَنزِيلًا مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ٱلْعُلَى
تَنزِيلًا
tanzīlan
A revelation
مِّمَّنْ
mimman
from (He) Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
created
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
the earth
وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
wal-samāwāti
and the heavens
ٱلْعُلَى
l-ʿulā
[the] high
A revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens,

20:5
Ayah 20:5
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
al-raḥmānu
The Most Gracious
عَلَى
ʿalā
over
ٱلْعَرْشِ
l-ʿarshi
the Throne
ٱسْتَوَىٰ
is'tawā
is established
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.1

20:6
Ayah 20:6
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ ٱلثَّرَىٰ
لَهُۥ
lahu
To Him (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā
(is) between them
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
تَحْتَ
taḥta
(is) under
ٱلثَّرَىٰ
l-tharā
the soil
To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil.

20:7
Ayah 20:7
وَإِن تَجْهَرْ بِٱلْقَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ وَأَخْفَى
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
تَجْهَرْ
tajhar
you speak aloud
بِٱلْقَوْلِ
bil-qawli
the word
فَإِنَّهُۥ
fa-innahu
then indeed, He
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
knows
ٱلسِّرَّ
l-sira
the secret
وَأَخْفَى
wa-akhfā
and the more hidden
And if you speak aloud - then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden.

20:8
Ayah 20:8
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
except
هُوَ
huwa
Him
لَهُ
lahu
To Him (belong)
ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ
l-asmāu
the Names
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
l-ḥus'nā
the Most Beautiful
Allāh - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.

20:9
Ayah 20:9
وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
وَهَلْ
wahal
And has
أَتَىٰكَ
atāka
come to you
حَدِيثُ
ḥadīthu
the narration
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
(of) Musa
And has the story of Moses reached you? -

20:10
Ayah 20:10
إِذْ رَءَا نَارًا فَقَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ إِنِّىٓ ءَانَسْتُ نَارًا لَّعَلِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوْ أَجِدُ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ هُدًى
إِذْ
idh
When
رَءَا
raā
he saw
نَارًا
nāran
a fire
فَقَالَ
faqāla
then he said
لِأَهْلِهِ
li-ahlihi
to his family
ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟
um'kuthū
Stay here
إِنِّىٓ
innī
indeed, I
ءَانَسْتُ
ānastu
[I] perceived
نَارًا
nāran
a fire
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallī
perhaps I (can)
ءَاتِيكُم
ātīkum
bring you
مِّنْهَا
min'hā
therefrom
بِقَبَسٍ
biqabasin
a burning brand
أَوْ
aw
or
أَجِدُ
ajidu
I find
عَلَى
ʿalā
at
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the fire
هُدًى
hudan
guidance
When he saw a fire and said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance."

20:11
Ayah 20:11
فَلَمَّآ أَتَىٰهَا نُودِىَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
فَلَمَّآ
falammā
Then when
أَتَىٰهَا
atāhā
he came to it
نُودِىَ
nūdiya
he was called
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsā
O Musa
And when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses,

20:12
Ayah 20:12
إِنِّىٓ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكَ فَٱخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, [I]
أَنَا۠
anā
I Am
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka
your Lord
فَٱخْلَعْ
fa-ikh'laʿ
so remove
نَعْلَيْكَ
naʿlayka
your shoes
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
بِٱلْوَادِ
bil-wādi
(are) in the valley
ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ
l-muqadasi
the sacred
طُوًى
ṭuwan
(of) Tuwa
Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the blessed valley of Ṭuwā.

20:13
Ayah 20:13
وَأَنَا ٱخْتَرْتُكَ فَٱسْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَىٰٓ
وَأَنَا
wa-anā
And I
ٱخْتَرْتُكَ
ikh'tartuka
(have) chosen you
فَٱسْتَمِعْ
fa-is'tamiʿ
so listen
لِمَا
limā
to what
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥā
is revealed
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you].

20:14
Ayah 20:14
إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ
إِنَّنِىٓ
innanī
Indeed, [I]
أَنَا
anā
I Am
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّآ
illā
but
أَنَا۠
anā
I
فَٱعْبُدْنِى
fa-uʿ'bud'nī
so worship Me
وَأَقِمِ
wa-aqimi
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalata
the prayer
لِذِكْرِىٓ
lidhik'rī
for My remembrance
Indeed, I am Allāh. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.

20:15
Ayah 20:15
إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا لِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا تَسْعَىٰ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata
the Hour
ءَاتِيَةٌ
ātiyatun
(will be) coming
أَكَادُ
akādu
I almost
أُخْفِيهَا
ukh'fīhā
[I] hide it
لِتُجْزَىٰ
lituj'zā
that may be recompensed
كُلُّ
kullu
every
نَفْسٍۭ
nafsin
soul
بِمَا
bimā
for what
تَسْعَىٰ
tasʿā
it strives
Indeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal it1 - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives.

20:16
Ayah 20:16
فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ فَتَرْدَىٰ
فَلَا
falā
So (do) not
يَصُدَّنَّكَ
yaṣuddannaka
(let) avert you
عَنْهَا
ʿanhā
from it
مَن
man
(one) who
لَّا
(does) not
يُؤْمِنُ
yu'minu
believe
بِهَا
bihā
in it
وَٱتَّبَعَ
wa-ittabaʿa
and follows
هَوَىٰهُ
hawāhu
his desires
فَتَرْدَىٰ
fatardā
lest you perish
So do not let one avert you from it1 who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish.

20:17
Ayah 20:17
وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
وَمَا
wamā
And what
تِلْكَ
til'ka
(is) that
بِيَمِينِكَ
biyamīnika
in your right hand
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?"

20:18
Ayah 20:18
قَالَ هِىَ عَصَاىَ أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِى وَلِىَ فِيهَا مَـَٔارِبُ أُخْرَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
هِىَ
hiya
It
عَصَاىَ
ʿaṣāya
(is) my staff
أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟
atawakka-u
I lean
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
upon it
وَأَهُشُّ
wa-ahushu
and I bring down leaves
بِهَا
bihā
with it
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
for
غَنَمِى
ghanamī
my sheep
وَلِىَ
waliya
and for me
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
مَـَٔارِبُ
maāribu
(are) uses
أُخْرَىٰ
ukh'rā
other
He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses."

20:19
Ayah 20:19
قَالَ أَلْقِهَا يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَلْقِهَا
alqihā
Throw it down
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
[Allāh] said, "Throw it down, O Moses."

20:20
Ayah 20:20
فَأَلْقَىٰهَا فَإِذَا هِىَ حَيَّةٌ تَسْعَىٰ
فَأَلْقَىٰهَا
fa-alqāhā
So he threw it down
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
and behold
هِىَ
hiya
It
حَيَّةٌ
ḥayyatun
(was) a snake
تَسْعَىٰ
tasʿā
moving swiftly
So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly.

20:21
Ayah 20:21
قَالَ خُذْهَا وَلَا تَخَفْ ۖ سَنُعِيدُهَا سِيرَتَهَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
خُذْهَا
khudh'hā
Seize it
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَخَفْ
takhaf
fear
سَنُعِيدُهَا
sanuʿīduhā
We will return it
سِيرَتَهَا
sīratahā
(to) its state
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā
the former
[Allāh] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition.

20:22
Ayah 20:22
وَٱضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ جَنَاحِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍ ءَايَةً أُخْرَىٰ
وَٱضْمُمْ
wa-uḍ'mum
And draw near
يَدَكَ
yadaka
your hand
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
جَنَاحِكَ
janāḥika
your side
تَخْرُجْ
takhruj
it will come out
بَيْضَآءَ
bayḍāa
white
مِنْ
min
without any
غَيْرِ
ghayri
without any
سُوٓءٍ
sūin
disease
ءَايَةً
āyatan
(as) a sign
أُخْرَىٰ
ukh'rā
another
And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign,

20:23
Ayah 20:23
لِنُرِيَكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا ٱلْكُبْرَى
لِنُرِيَكَ
linuriyaka
That We may show you
مِنْ
min
of
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātinā
Our Signs
ٱلْكُبْرَى
l-kub'rā
the Greatest
That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs.

20:24
Ayah 20:24
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
ٱذْهَبْ
idh'hab
Go
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
طَغَىٰ
ṭaghā
(has) transgressed
Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed [i.e., tyrannized]."

20:25
Ayah 20:25
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
ٱشْرَحْ
ish'raḥ
Expand
لِى
for me
صَدْرِى
ṣadrī
my breast
[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand [i.e., relax] for me my breast [with assurance]

20:26
Ayah 20:26
وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى
وَيَسِّرْ
wayassir
And ease
لِىٓ
for me
أَمْرِى
amrī
my task
And ease for me my task

20:27
Ayah 20:27
وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِى
وَٱحْلُلْ
wa-uḥ'lul
And untie
عُقْدَةً
ʿuq'datan
(the) knot
مِّن
min
from
لِّسَانِى
lisānī
my tongue
And untie the knot from my tongue

20:28
Ayah 20:28
يَفْقَهُوا۟ قَوْلِى
يَفْقَهُوا۟
yafqahū
That they may understand
قَوْلِى
qawlī
my speech
That they may understand my speech.

20:29
Ayah 20:29
وَٱجْعَل لِّى وَزِيرًا مِّنْ أَهْلِى
وَٱجْعَل
wa-ij'ʿal
And appoint
لِّى
for me
وَزِيرًا
wazīran
a minister
مِّنْ
min
from
أَهْلِى
ahlī
my family
And appoint for me a minister [i.e., assistant] from my family -

20:30
Ayah 20:30
هَـٰرُونَ أَخِى
هَـٰرُونَ
hārūna
Harun
أَخِى
akhī
my brother
Aaron, my brother.

20:31
Ayah 20:31
ٱشْدُدْ بِهِۦٓ أَزْرِى
ٱشْدُدْ
ush'dud
Reinforce
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
through him
أَزْرِى
azrī
my strength
Increase through him my strength

20:32
Ayah 20:32
وَأَشْرِكْهُ فِىٓ أَمْرِى
وَأَشْرِكْهُ
wa-ashrik'hu
And make him share
فِىٓ
[in]
أَمْرِى
amrī
my task
And let him share my task

20:33
Ayah 20:33
كَىْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيرًا
كَىْ
kay
That
نُسَبِّحَكَ
nusabbiḥaka
we may glorify You
كَثِيرًا
kathīran
much
That we may exalt You much
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
20:34
Ayah 20:34
وَنَذْكُرَكَ كَثِيرًا
وَنَذْكُرَكَ
wanadhkuraka
And [we] remember You
كَثِيرًا
kathīran
much
And remember You much.

20:35
Ayah 20:35
إِنَّكَ كُنتَ بِنَا بَصِيرًا
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, [You]
كُنتَ
kunta
You are
بِنَا
binā
of us
بَصِيرًا
baṣīran
All-Seer
Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing."

20:36
Ayah 20:36
قَالَ قَدْ أُوتِيتَ سُؤْلَكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
قَدْ
qad
Verily
أُوتِيتَ
ūtīta
you are granted
سُؤْلَكَ
su'laka
your request
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
[Allāh] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses.

20:37
Ayah 20:37
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَىٰٓ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And indeed
مَنَنَّا
manannā
We conferred a favor
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
on you
مَرَّةً
marratan
another time
أُخْرَىٰٓ
ukh'rā
another time
And We had already conferred favor upon you another time,

20:38
Ayah 20:38
إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ
إِذْ
idh
When
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynā
We inspired
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أُمِّكَ
ummika
your mother
مَا
what
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥā
is inspired
When We inspired to your mother what We inspired,

20:39
Ayah 20:39
أَنِ ٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلتَّابُوتِ فَٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ فَلْيُلْقِهِ ٱلْيَمُّ بِٱلسَّاحِلِ يَأْخُذْهُ عَدُوٌّ لِّى وَعَدُوٌّ لَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَلْقَيْتُ عَلَيْكَ مَحَبَّةً مِّنِّى وَلِتُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِىٓ
أَنِ
ani
That
ٱقْذِفِيهِ
iq'dhifīhi
cast him
فِى
in
ٱلتَّابُوتِ
l-tābūti
the chest
فَٱقْذِفِيهِ
fa-iq'dhifīhi
then cast it
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yami
the river
فَلْيُلْقِهِ
falyul'qihi
then let cast it
ٱلْيَمُّ
l-yamu
the river
بِٱلسَّاحِلِ
bil-sāḥili
on the bank
يَأْخُذْهُ
yakhudh'hu
will take him
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun
an enemy
لِّى
to Me
وَعَدُوٌّ
waʿaduwwun
and an enemy
لَّهُۥ
lahu
to him
وَأَلْقَيْتُ
wa-alqaytu
And I cast
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
over you
مَحَبَّةً
maḥabbatan
love
مِّنِّى
minnī
from Me
وَلِتُصْنَعَ
walituṣ'naʿa
and that you may be brought up
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
under
عَيْنِىٓ
ʿaynī
My eye
[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me1 that you would be brought up under My eye [i.e., observation and care].

20:40
Ayah 20:40
إِذْ تَمْشِىٓ أُخْتُكَ فَتَقُولُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن يَكْفُلُهُۥ ۖ فَرَجَعْنَـٰكَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ ۚ وَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا فَنَجَّيْنَـٰكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَمِّ وَفَتَنَّـٰكَ فُتُونًا ۚ فَلَبِثْتَ سِنِينَ فِىٓ أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ ثُمَّ جِئْتَ عَلَىٰ قَدَرٍ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
إِذْ
idh
When
تَمْشِىٓ
tamshī
was going
أُخْتُكَ
ukh'tuka
your sister
فَتَقُولُ
fataqūlu
and she said
هَلْ
hal
Shall
أَدُلُّكُمْ
adullukum
I show you
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
[to]
مَن
man
(one) who
يَكْفُلُهُۥ
yakfuluhu
will nurse and rear him
فَرَجَعْنَـٰكَ
farajaʿnāka
So We returned you
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أُمِّكَ
ummika
your mother
كَىْ
kay
that
تَقَرَّ
taqarra
may be cooled
عَيْنُهَا
ʿaynuhā
her eyes
وَلَا
walā
and not
تَحْزَنَ
taḥzana
she grieves
وَقَتَلْتَ
waqatalta
And you killed
نَفْسًا
nafsan
a man
فَنَجَّيْنَـٰكَ
fanajjaynāka
but We saved you

ٱلْغَمِّ
l-ghami
the distress
وَفَتَنَّـٰكَ
wafatannāka
and We tried you
فُتُونًا
futūnan
(with) a trial
فَلَبِثْتَ
falabith'ta
Then you remained
سِنِينَ
sinīna
(some) years
فِىٓ
with
أَهْلِ
ahli
(the) people
مَدْيَنَ
madyana
(of) Madyan
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
جِئْتَ
ji'ta
you came
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
at
قَدَرٍ
qadarin
the decreed (time)
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone,1 but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses.

20:41
Ayah 20:41
وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِى
وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ
wa-iṣ'ṭanaʿtuka
And I (have) chosen you
لِنَفْسِى
linafsī
for Myself
And I produced you for Myself.1

20:42
Ayah 20:42
ٱذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَأَخُوكَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِى وَلَا تَنِيَا فِى ذِكْرِى
ٱذْهَبْ
idh'hab
Go
أَنتَ
anta
you
وَأَخُوكَ
wa-akhūka
and your brother
بِـَٔايَـٰتِى
biāyātī
with My Signs
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَنِيَا
taniyā
slacken
فِى
in
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rī
My remembrance
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance.

20:43
Ayah 20:43
ٱذْهَبَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
ٱذْهَبَآ
idh'habā
Go, both of you
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
طَغَىٰ
ṭaghā
(has) transgressed
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

20:44
Ayah 20:44
فَقُولَا لَهُۥ قَوْلًا لَّيِّنًا لَّعَلَّهُۥ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْشَىٰ
فَقُولَا
faqūlā
And speak
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
قَوْلًا
qawlan
a word
لَّيِّنًا
layyinan
gentle
لَّعَلَّهُۥ
laʿallahu
perhaps he
يَتَذَكَّرُ
yatadhakkaru
may take heed
أَوْ
aw
or
يَخْشَىٰ
yakhshā
fear
And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allāh]."

20:45
Ayah 20:45
قَالَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَآ أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ
قَالَا
qālā
They said
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
إِنَّنَا
innanā
Indeed, we
نَخَافُ
nakhāfu
fear
أَن
an
that
يَفْرُطَ
yafruṭa
he will hasten
عَلَيْنَآ
ʿalaynā
against us
أَوْ
aw
or
أَن
an
that
يَطْغَىٰ
yaṭghā
he will transgress
They said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress."

20:46
Ayah 20:46
قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآ ۖ إِنَّنِى مَعَكُمَآ أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَافَآ
takhāfā
fear
إِنَّنِى
innanī
Indeed, I Am
مَعَكُمَآ
maʿakumā
with you both
أَسْمَعُ
asmaʿu
I hear
وَأَرَىٰ
wa-arā
and I see
[Allāh] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.

20:47
Ayah 20:47
فَأْتِيَاهُ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَا تُعَذِّبْهُمْ ۖ قَدْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۖ وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
فَأْتِيَاهُ
fatiyāhu
So go to him
فَقُولَآ
faqūlā
and say
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
رَسُولَا
rasūlā
both (are) Messengers
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
فَأَرْسِلْ
fa-arsil
so send
مَعَنَا
maʿanā
with us
بَنِىٓ
banī
(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla
(the) Children of Israel
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تُعَذِّبْهُمْ
tuʿadhib'hum
torment them
قَدْ
qad
Verily
جِئْنَـٰكَ
ji'nāka
we came to you
بِـَٔايَةٍ
biāyatin
with a Sign
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ
wal-salāmu
And peace
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
مَنِ
mani
(one) who
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿa
follows
ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
l-hudā
the Guidance
So go to him and say, 'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace1 will be upon he who follows the guidance.

20:48
Ayah 20:48
إِنَّا قَدْ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْنَآ أَنَّ ٱلْعَذَابَ عَلَىٰ مَن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
قَدْ
qad
verily
أُوحِىَ
ūḥiya
it has been revealed
إِلَيْنَآ
ilaynā
to us
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
(will be) on
مَن
man
(one) who
كَذَّبَ
kadhaba
denies
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
watawallā
and turns away
Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away.'"

20:49
Ayah 20:49
قَالَ فَمَن رَّبُّكُمَا يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَمَن
faman
Then who
رَّبُّكُمَا
rabbukumā
(is) your Lord
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
[Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?"

20:50
Ayah 20:50
قَالَ رَبُّنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَعْطَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلْقَهُۥ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبُّنَا
rabbunā
Our Lord
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī
(is) the One Who
أَعْطَىٰ
aʿṭā
gave
كُلَّ
kulla
(to) every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
خَلْقَهُۥ
khalqahu
its form
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
هَدَىٰ
hadā
He guided (it)
He said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it]."

20:51
Ayah 20:51
قَالَ فَمَا بَالُ ٱلْقُرُونِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَمَا
famā
Then what
بَالُ
bālu
(is the) case
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūni
(of) the generations
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā
(of) the former
[Pharaoh] said, "Then what is the case of the former generations?"

20:52
Ayah 20:52
قَالَ عِلْمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّى فِى كِتَـٰبٍ ۖ لَّا يَضِلُّ رَبِّى وَلَا يَنسَى
قَالَ
qāla
He said
عِلْمُهَا
ʿil'muhā
Its knowledge
عِندَ
ʿinda
(is) with
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
فِى
in
كِتَـٰبٍ
kitābin
a Record
لَّا
Not
يَضِلُّ
yaḍillu
errs
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَنسَى
yansā
forgets
[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."

20:53
Ayah 20:53
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مَهْدًا وَسَلَكَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًا وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّن نَّبَاتٍ شَتَّىٰ
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
The One Who
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
made
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
the earth
مَهْدًا
mahdan
(as) a bed
وَسَلَكَ
wasalaka
and inserted
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
سُبُلًا
subulan
ways
وَأَنزَلَ
wa-anzala
and sent down
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
مَآءً
māan
water
فَأَخْرَجْنَا
fa-akhrajnā
then We (have) brought forth
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
with it
أَزْوَٰجًا
azwājan
pairs
مِّن
min
of
نَّبَاتٍ
nabātin
plants
شَتَّىٰ
shattā
diverse
[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.

20:54
Ayah 20:54
كُلُوا۟ وَٱرْعَوْا۟ أَنْعَـٰمَكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ
كُلُوا۟
kulū
Eat
وَٱرْعَوْا۟
wa-ir'ʿaw
and pasture
أَنْعَـٰمَكُمْ
anʿāmakum
your cattle
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ
laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّأُو۟لِى
li-ulī
for possessors
ٱلنُّهَىٰ
l-nuhā
(of) intelligence
Eat [therefrom] and pasture your livestock. Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.

20:55
Ayah 20:55
۞ مِنْهَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ
مِنْهَا
min'hā
From it
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ
khalaqnākum
We created you
وَفِيهَا
wafīhā
and in it
نُعِيدُكُمْ
nuʿīdukum
We will return you
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hā
and from it
نُخْرِجُكُمْ
nukh'rijukum
We will bring you out
تَارَةً
tāratan
time
أُخْرَىٰ
ukh'rā
another
From it [i.e., the earth] We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.

20:56
Ayah 20:56
وَلَقَدْ أَرَيْنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَأَبَىٰ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
أَرَيْنَـٰهُ
araynāhu
We showed him
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātinā
Our Signs
كُلَّهَا
kullahā
all of them
فَكَذَّبَ
fakadhaba
but he denied
وَأَبَىٰ
wa-abā
and refused
And We certainly showed him [i.e., Pharaoh] Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused.

20:57
Ayah 20:57
قَالَ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْرِجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِنَا بِسِحْرِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَجِئْتَنَا
aji'tanā
Have you come to us
لِتُخْرِجَنَا
litukh'rijanā
to drive us out
مِنْ
min
of
أَرْضِنَا
arḍinā
our land
بِسِحْرِكَ
bisiḥ'rika
with your magic
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
He said, "Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?

20:58
Ayah 20:58
فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ فَٱجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَّا نُخْلِفُهُۥ نَحْنُ وَلَآ أَنتَ مَكَانًا سُوًى
فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ
falanatiyannaka
Then we will surely produce for you
بِسِحْرٍ
bisiḥ'rin
magic
مِّثْلِهِۦ
mith'lihi
like it
فَٱجْعَلْ
fa-ij'ʿal
So make
بَيْنَنَا
baynanā
between us
وَبَيْنَكَ
wabaynaka
and between you
مَوْعِدًا
mawʿidan
an appointment
لَّا
not
نُخْلِفُهُۥ
nukh'lifuhu
we will fail it
نَحْنُ
naḥnu
[we]
وَلَآ
walā
and not
أَنتَ
anta
you
مَكَانًا
makānan
(in) a place
سُوًى
suwan
even
Then we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep and neither will you, in a place assigned."1

20:59
Ayah 20:59
قَالَ مَوْعِدُكُمْ يَوْمُ ٱلزِّينَةِ وَأَن يُحْشَرَ ٱلنَّاسُ ضُحًى
قَالَ
qāla
He said
مَوْعِدُكُمْ
mawʿidukum
Your appointment
يَوْمُ
yawmu
(is on the) day
ٱلزِّينَةِ
l-zīnati
(of) the festival
وَأَن
wa-an
and that
يُحْشَرَ
yuḥ'shara
will be assembled
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsu
the people
ضُحًى
ḍuḥan
(at) forenoon
[Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning."1

20:60
Ayah 20:60
فَتَوَلَّىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَهُۥ ثُمَّ أَتَىٰ
فَتَوَلَّىٰ
fatawallā
Then went away
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
فَجَمَعَ
fajamaʿa
and put together
كَيْدَهُۥ
kaydahu
his plan
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
أَتَىٰ
atā
came
So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses].

20:61
Ayah 20:61
قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا فَيُسْحِتَكُم بِعَذَابٍ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
Said
لَهُم
lahum
to them
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
وَيْلَكُمْ
waylakum
Woe to you
لَا
(Do) not
تَفْتَرُوا۟
taftarū
invent
عَلَى
ʿalā
against
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًا
kadhiban
a lie
فَيُسْحِتَكُم
fayus'ḥitakum
lest He will destroy you
بِعَذَابٍ
biʿadhābin
with a punishment
وَقَدْ
waqad
And verily
خَابَ
khāba
he failed
مَنِ
mani
who
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarā
invented
Moses said to them [i.e., the magicians summoned by Pharaoh], "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allāh or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]."

20:62
Ayah 20:62
فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ
فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟
fatanāzaʿū
Then they disputed
أَمْرَهُم
amrahum
(in) their affair
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
among them
وَأَسَرُّوا۟
wa-asarrū
and they kept secret
ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ
l-najwā
the private conversation
So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation.

20:63
Ayah 20:63
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَٰنِ لَسَـٰحِرَٰنِ يُرِيدَانِ أَن يُخْرِجَاكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِمَا وَيَذْهَبَا بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ ٱلْمُثْلَىٰ
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
They said
إِنْ
in
Indeed
هَـٰذَٰنِ
hādhāni
these two
لَسَـٰحِرَٰنِ
lasāḥirāni
[two] magicians
يُرِيدَانِ
yurīdāni
they intend
أَن
an
that
يُخْرِجَاكُم
yukh'rijākum
they drive you out
مِّنْ
min
of
أَرْضِكُم
arḍikum
your land
بِسِحْرِهِمَا
bisiḥ'rihimā
with their magic
وَيَذْهَبَا
wayadhhabā
and do away
بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ
biṭarīqatikumu
with your way
ٱلْمُثْلَىٰ
l-muth'lā
the exemplary
They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way [i.e., religion or tradition].

20:64
Ayah 20:64
فَأَجْمِعُوا۟ كَيْدَكُمْ ثُمَّ ٱئْتُوا۟ صَفًّا ۚ وَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْيَوْمَ مَنِ ٱسْتَعْلَىٰ
فَأَجْمِعُوا۟
fa-ajmiʿū
So put together
كَيْدَكُمْ
kaydakum
your plan
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
ٱئْتُوا۟
i'tū
come
صَفًّا
ṣaffan
(in) a line
وَقَدْ
waqad
And verily
أَفْلَحَ
aflaḥa
(will be) successful
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
مَنِ
mani
who
ٱسْتَعْلَىٰ
is'taʿlā
overcomes
So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes."

20:65
Ayah 20:65
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِمَّآ أَن تُلْقِىَ وَإِمَّآ أَن نَّكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَلْقَىٰ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsā
O Musa
إِمَّآ
immā
Either
أَن
an
[that]
تُلْقِىَ
tul'qiya
you throw
وَإِمَّآ
wa-immā
or
أَن
an
[that]
نَّكُونَ
nakūna
we will be
أَوَّلَ
awwala
the first
مَنْ
man
who
أَلْقَىٰ
alqā
throws
They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw."

20:66
Ayah 20:66
قَالَ بَلْ أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
بَلْ
bal
Nay
أَلْقُوا۟
alqū
you throw
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
Then behold
حِبَالُهُمْ
ḥibāluhum
Their ropes
وَعِصِيُّهُمْ
waʿiṣiyyuhum
and their staffs
يُخَيَّلُ
yukhayyalu
seemed
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to him
مِن
min
by
سِحْرِهِمْ
siḥ'rihim
their magic
أَنَّهَا
annahā
that they
تَسْعَىٰ
tasʿā
(were) moving
He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].

20:67
Ayah 20:67
فَأَوْجَسَ فِى نَفْسِهِۦ خِيفَةً مُّوسَىٰ
فَأَوْجَسَ
fa-awjasa
So sensed
فِى
in
نَفْسِهِۦ
nafsihi
himself
خِيفَةً
khīfatan
a fear
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses.

20:68
Ayah 20:68
قُلْنَا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
قُلْنَا
qul'nā
We said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفْ
takhaf
fear
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
أَنتَ
anta
you
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
l-aʿlā
(will be) superior
We [i.e., Allāh] said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.

20:69
Ayah 20:69
وَأَلْقِ مَا فِى يَمِينِكَ تَلْقَفْ مَا صَنَعُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّمَا صَنَعُوا۟ كَيْدُ سَـٰحِرٍ ۖ وَلَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلسَّاحِرُ حَيْثُ أَتَىٰ
وَأَلْقِ
wa-alqi
And throw
مَا
what
فِى
(is) in
يَمِينِكَ
yamīnika
your right hand
تَلْقَفْ
talqaf
it will swallow up
مَا
what
صَنَعُوٓا۟
ṣanaʿū
they have made
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
صَنَعُوا۟
ṣanaʿū
they (have) made
كَيْدُ
kaydu
a trick
سَـٰحِرٍ
sāḥirin
(of) a magician
وَلَا
walā
and not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥu
will be successful
ٱلسَّاحِرُ
l-sāḥiru
the magician
حَيْثُ
ḥaythu
wherever
أَتَىٰ
atā
he comes
And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."

20:70
Ayah 20:70
فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًا قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَـٰرُونَ وَمُوسَىٰ
فَأُلْقِىَ
fa-ul'qiya
So were thrown down
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
l-saḥaratu
the magicians
سُجَّدًا
sujjadan
prostrating
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
They said
ءَامَنَّا
āmannā
We believe
بِرَبِّ
birabbi
in (the) Lord
هَـٰرُونَ
hārūna
(of) Harun
وَمُوسَىٰ
wamūsā
and Musa
So the magicians fell down in prostration.1 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."

20:71
Ayah 20:71
قَالَ ءَامَنتُمْ لَهُۥ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحْرَ ۖ فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَـٰفٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ فِى جُذُوعِ ٱلنَّخْلِ وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ أَيُّنَآ أَشَدُّ عَذَابًا وَأَبْقَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
ءَامَنتُمْ
āmantum
You believe
لَهُۥ
lahu
[to] him
قَبْلَ
qabla
before
أَنْ
an
[that]
ءَاذَنَ
ādhana
I gave permission
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
لَكَبِيرُكُمُ
lakabīrukumu
(is) your chief
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the one who
عَلَّمَكُمُ
ʿallamakumu
taught you
ٱلسِّحْرَ
l-siḥ'ra
the magic
فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ
fala-uqaṭṭiʿanna
So surely I will cut off
أَيْدِيَكُمْ
aydiyakum
your hands
وَأَرْجُلَكُم
wa-arjulakum
and your feet
مِّنْ
min
of
خِلَـٰفٍ
khilāfin
opposite sides
وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ
wala-uṣallibannakum
and surely I will crucify you
فِى
on
جُذُوعِ
judhūʿi
(the) trunks
ٱلنَّخْلِ
l-nakhli
(of) date-palms
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ
walataʿlamunna
and surely you will know
أَيُّنَآ
ayyunā
which of us
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu
(is) more severe
عَذَابًا
ʿadhāban
(in) punishment
وَأَبْقَىٰ
wa-abqā
and more lasting
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring."

20:72
Ayah 20:72
قَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْثِرَكَ عَلَىٰ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنَا ۖ فَٱقْضِ مَآ أَنتَ قَاضٍ ۖ إِنَّمَا تَقْضِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَآ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
لَن
lan
Never
نُّؤْثِرَكَ
nu'thiraka
we will prefer you
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
مَا
what
جَآءَنَا
jāanā
has come to us
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
l-bayināti
the clear proofs
وَٱلَّذِى
wa-alladhī
and the One Who
فَطَرَنَا
faṭaranā
created us
فَٱقْضِ
fa-iq'ḍi
So decree
مَآ
whatever
أَنتَ
anta
you
قَاضٍ
qāḍin
(are) decreeing
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
تَقْضِى
taqḍī
you can decree
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihi
(for) this
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
l-ḥayata
life
ٱلدُّنْيَآ
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us.1 So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.

20:73
Ayah 20:73
إِنَّآ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّنَا لِيَغْفِرَ لَنَا خَطَـٰيَـٰنَا وَمَآ أَكْرَهْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلسِّحْرِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
إِنَّآ
innā
Indeed, [we]
ءَامَنَّا
āmannā
we believe
بِرَبِّنَا
birabbinā
in our Lord
لِيَغْفِرَ
liyaghfira
that He may forgive
لَنَا
lanā
for us
خَطَـٰيَـٰنَا
khaṭāyānā
our sins
وَمَآ
wamā
and what
أَكْرَهْتَنَا
akrahtanā
you compelled us
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
on it
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلسِّحْرِ
l-siḥ'ri
the magic
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is) Best
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
wa-abqā
and Ever Lasting
Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allāh is better and more enduring."1

20:74
Ayah 20:74
إِنَّهُۥ مَن يَأْتِ رَبَّهُۥ مُجْرِمًا فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
مَن
man
who
يَأْتِ
yati
comes
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu
(to) his Lord
مُجْرِمًا
muj'riman
(as) a criminal
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
(is) Hell
لَا
Not
يَمُوتُ
yamūtu
he will die
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَحْيَىٰ
yaḥyā
live
Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal - indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.

20:75
Ayah 20:75
وَمَن يَأْتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنًا قَدْ عَمِلَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتُ ٱلْعُلَىٰ
وَمَن
waman
But whoever
يَأْتِهِۦ
yatihi
comes to Him
مُؤْمِنًا
mu'minan
(as) a believer
قَدْ
qad
verily
عَمِلَ
ʿamila
he has done
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
the righteous deeds
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāika
then those
لَهُمُ
lahumu
for them
ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتُ
l-darajātu
(will be) the ranks
ٱلْعُلَىٰ
l-ʿulā
[the] high
But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds - for those will be the highest degrees [in position]:
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
20:76
Ayah 20:76
جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātu
Gardens
عَدْنٍ
ʿadnin
(of) Eden
تَجْرِى
tajrī
flows
مِن
min
from
تَحْتِهَا
taḥtihā
underneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāru
the rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīna
abiding forever
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
وَذَٰلِكَ
wadhālika
And that
جَزَآءُ
jazāu
(is) the reward
مَن
man
(for him) who
تَزَكَّىٰ
tazakkā
purifies himself
Gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of one who purifies himself.1

20:77
Ayah 20:77
وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى فَٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًا فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ يَبَسًا لَّا تَخَـٰفُ دَرَكًا وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynā
We inspired
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
Musa
أَنْ
an
that
أَسْرِ
asri
Travel by night
بِعِبَادِى
biʿibādī
with My slaves
فَٱضْرِبْ
fa-iḍ'rib
and strike
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
طَرِيقًا
ṭarīqan
a path
فِى
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
يَبَسًا
yabasan
dry
لَّا
not
تَخَـٰفُ
takhāfu
fearing
دَرَكًا
darakan
to be overtaken
وَلَا
walā
and not
تَخْشَىٰ
takhshā
being afraid
And We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]."

20:78
Ayah 20:78
فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِهِۦ فَغَشِيَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ
فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ
fa-atbaʿahum
Then followed them
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
بِجُنُودِهِۦ
bijunūdihi
with his forces
فَغَشِيَهُم
faghashiyahum
but covered them
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yami
the sea
مَا
what
غَشِيَهُمْ
ghashiyahum
covered them
So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them,1

20:79
Ayah 20:79
وَأَضَلَّ فِرْعَوْنُ قَوْمَهُۥ وَمَا هَدَىٰ
وَأَضَلَّ
wa-aḍalla
And led astray
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
قَوْمَهُۥ
qawmahu
his people
وَمَا
wamā
and (did) not
هَدَىٰ
hadā
guide them
And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them].

20:80
Ayah 20:80
يَـٰبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ قَدْ أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم مِّنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَوَٰعَدْنَـٰكُمْ جَانِبَ ٱلطُّورِ ٱلْأَيْمَنَ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ
يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanī
O Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla
O Children of Israel
قَدْ
qad
Verily
أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم
anjaynākum
We delivered you
مِّنْ
min
from
عَدُوِّكُمْ
ʿaduwwikum
your enemy
وَوَٰعَدْنَـٰكُمْ
wawāʿadnākum
and We made a covenant with you
جَانِبَ
jāniba
on (the) side
ٱلطُّورِ
l-ṭūri
(of) the Mount
ٱلْأَيْمَنَ
l-aymana
the right
وَنَزَّلْنَا
wanazzalnā
and We sent down
عَلَيْكُمُ
ʿalaykumu
to you
ٱلْمَنَّ
l-mana
the Manna
وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ
wal-salwā
and the quails
O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you1 at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,

20:81
Ayah 20:81
كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِيهِ فَيَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبِى ۖ وَمَن يَحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَضَبِى فَقَدْ هَوَىٰ
كُلُوا۟
kulū
Eat
مِن
min
of
طَيِّبَـٰتِ
ṭayyibāti
(the) good things
مَا
which
رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ
razaqnākum
We have provided you
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَطْغَوْا۟
taṭghaw
transgress
فِيهِ
fīhi
therein
فَيَحِلَّ
fayaḥilla
lest should descend
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
upon you
غَضَبِى
ghaḍabī
My Anger
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يَحْلِلْ
yaḥlil
on whom descends
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
on whom descends
غَضَبِى
ghaḍabī
My Anger
فَقَدْ
faqad
indeed
هَوَىٰ
hawā
he (has) perished
[Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen [i.e., perished]."

20:82
Ayah 20:82
وَإِنِّى لَغَفَّارٌ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا ثُمَّ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
وَإِنِّى
wa-innī
But indeed, I Am
لَغَفَّارٌ
laghaffārun
the Perpetual Forgiver
لِّمَن
liman
of whoever
تَابَ
tāba
repents
وَءَامَنَ
waāmana
and believes
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamila
and does
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
ٱهْتَدَىٰ
ih'tadā
remains guided
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.

20:83
Ayah 20:83
۞ وَمَآ أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
وَمَآ
wamā
And what
أَعْجَلَكَ
aʿjalaka
made you hasten
عَن
ʿan
from
قَوْمِكَ
qawmika
your people
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsā
O Musa
[Allāh said], "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?"

20:84
Ayah 20:84
قَالَ هُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ عَلَىٰٓ أَثَرِى وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
هُمْ
hum
They
أُو۟لَآءِ
ulāi
(are) close
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
upon
أَثَرِى
atharī
my tracks
وَعَجِلْتُ
waʿajil'tu
and I hastened
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
رَبِّ
rabbi
my Lord
لِتَرْضَىٰ
litarḍā
that You be pleased
He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased."

20:85
Ayah 20:85
قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَإِنَّا
fa-innā
But indeed, We
قَدْ
qad
[verily]
فَتَنَّا
fatannā
We (have) tried
قَوْمَكَ
qawmaka
your people
مِنۢ
min
after you
بَعْدِكَ
baʿdika
after you
وَأَضَلَّهُمُ
wa-aḍallahumu
and has led them astray
ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
l-sāmiriyu
the Samiri
[Allāh] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Sāmirī1 has led them astray."

20:86
Ayah 20:86
فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَـٰنَ أَسِفًا ۚ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَن يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِى
فَرَجَعَ
farajaʿa
Then Musa returned
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
Then Musa returned
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihi
his people
غَضْبَـٰنَ
ghaḍbāna
angry
أَسِفًا
asifan
(and) sorrowful
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
أَلَمْ
alam
Did not
يَعِدْكُمْ
yaʿid'kum
promise you
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
your Lord
وَعْدًا
waʿdan
a promise
حَسَنًا
ḥasanan
good
أَفَطَالَ
afaṭāla
Then, did seem long
عَلَيْكُمُ
ʿalaykumu
to you
ٱلْعَهْدُ
l-ʿahdu
the promise
أَمْ
am
or
أَرَدتُّمْ
aradttum
did you desire
أَن
an
that
يَحِلَّ
yaḥilla
descend
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
upon you
غَضَبٌ
ghaḍabun
(the) Anger
مِّن
min
of
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikum
your Lord
فَأَخْلَفْتُم
fa-akhlaftum
so you broke
مَّوْعِدِى
mawʿidī
(the) promise to me
So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved.1 He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise?2 Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"

20:87
Ayah 20:87
قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَـٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَـٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
مَآ
Not
أَخْلَفْنَا
akhlafnā
we broke
مَوْعِدَكَ
mawʿidaka
promise to you
بِمَلْكِنَا
bimalkinā
by our will
وَلَـٰكِنَّا
walākinnā
but we
حُمِّلْنَآ
ḥummil'nā
[we] were made to carry
أَوْزَارًا
awzāran
burdens
مِّن
min
from
زِينَةِ
zīnati
ornaments
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmi
(of) the people
فَقَذَفْنَـٰهَا
faqadhafnāhā
so we threw them
فَكَذَٰلِكَ
fakadhālika
and thus
أَلْقَى
alqā
threw
ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
l-sāmiriyu
the Samiri
They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Sāmirī throw."

20:88
Ayah 20:88
فَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ عِجْلًا جَسَدًا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌ فَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمْ وَإِلَـٰهُ مُوسَىٰ فَنَسِىَ
فَأَخْرَجَ
fa-akhraja
Then he brought forth
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عِجْلًا
ʿij'lan
a calf's
جَسَدًا
jasadan
body
لَّهُۥ
lahu
it had
خُوَارٌ
khuwārun
a lowing sound
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālū
and they said
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā
This
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ
ilāhukum
(is) your god
وَإِلَـٰهُ
wa-ilāhu
and the god
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(of) Musa
فَنَسِىَ
fanasiya
but he forgot
And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot."

20:89
Ayah 20:89
أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then, did not
يَرَوْنَ
yarawna
they see
أَلَّا
allā
that not
يَرْجِعُ
yarjiʿu
it (could) return
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhim
to them
قَوْلًا
qawlan
a word
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَمْلِكُ
yamliku
possess
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
ضَرًّا
ḍarran
any harm
وَلَا
walā
and not
نَفْعًا
nafʿan
any benefit
Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech [i.e., response] and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?

20:90
Ayah 20:90
وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَـٰرُونُ مِن قَبْلُ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرِى
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
قَالَ
qāla
(had) said
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
هَـٰرُونُ
hārūnu
Harun
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
فُتِنتُم
futintum
you are being tested
بِهِۦ
bihi
by it
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
and indeed
رَبَّكُمُ
rabbakumu
your Lord
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānu
(is) the Most Gracious
فَٱتَّبِعُونِى
fa-ittabiʿūnī
so follow me
وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟
wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
أَمْرِى
amrī
my order
And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order."

20:91
Ayah 20:91
قَالُوا۟ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَـٰكِفِينَ حَتَّىٰ يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
لَن
lan
Never
نَّبْرَحَ
nabraḥa
we will cease
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
being devoted to it
عَـٰكِفِينَ
ʿākifīna
being devoted to it
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
يَرْجِعَ
yarjiʿa
returns
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynā
to us
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
They said, "We will never cease being devoted to it [i.e., the calf] until Moses returns to us."

20:92
Ayah 20:92
قَالَ يَـٰهَـٰرُونُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَأَيْتَهُمْ ضَلُّوٓا۟
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰهَـٰرُونُ
yāhārūnu
O Harun
مَا
What
مَنَعَكَ
manaʿaka
prevented you
إِذْ
idh
when
رَأَيْتَهُمْ
ra-aytahum
you saw them
ضَلُّوٓا۟
ḍallū
going astray
[Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,

20:93
Ayah 20:93
أَلَّا تَتَّبِعَنِ ۖ أَفَعَصَيْتَ أَمْرِى
أَلَّا
allā
That not
تَتَّبِعَنِ
tattabiʿani
you follow me
أَفَعَصَيْتَ
afaʿaṣayta
Then, have you disobeyed
أَمْرِى
amrī
my order
From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?"

20:94
Ayah 20:94
قَالَ يَبْنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِلِحْيَتِى وَلَا بِرَأْسِىٓ ۖ إِنِّى خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِى
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَبْنَؤُمَّ
yabna-umma
O son of my mother
لَا
(Do) not
تَأْخُذْ
takhudh
seize (me)
بِلِحْيَتِى
biliḥ'yatī
by my beard
وَلَا
walā
and not
بِرَأْسِىٓ
birasī
by my head
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
خَشِيتُ
khashītu
[I] feared
أَن
an
that
تَقُولَ
taqūla
you would say
فَرَّقْتَ
farraqta
You caused division
بَيْنَ
bayna
between
بَنِىٓ
banī
(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla
(the) Children of Israel
وَلَمْ
walam
and not
تَرْقُبْ
tarqub
you respect
قَوْلِى
qawlī
my word
[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.'"

20:95
Ayah 20:95
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَـٰسَـٰمِرِىُّ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَمَا
famā
Then what
خَطْبُكَ
khaṭbuka
(is) your case
يَـٰسَـٰمِرِىُّ
yāsāmiriyyu
O Samiri
[Moses] said, "And what is your case, O Sāmirī?"

20:96
Ayah 20:96
قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةً مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى
قَالَ
qāla
He said
بَصُرْتُ
baṣur'tu
I perceived
بِمَا
bimā
what
لَمْ
lam
not
يَبْصُرُوا۟
yabṣurū
they perceive
بِهِۦ
bihi
in it
فَقَبَضْتُ
faqabaḍtu
so I took
قَبْضَةً
qabḍatan
a handful
مِّنْ
min
from
أَثَرِ
athari
(the) track
ٱلرَّسُولِ
l-rasūli
(of) the Messenger
فَنَبَذْتُهَا
fanabadhtuhā
then threw it
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
and thus
سَوَّلَتْ
sawwalat
suggested
لِى
to me
نَفْسِى
nafsī
my soul
He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger1 and threw it,2 and thus did my soul entice me."

20:97
Ayah 20:97
قَالَ فَٱذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ أَن تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَّن تُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖ وَٱنظُرْ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِكَ ٱلَّذِى ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفًا ۖ لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ ثُمَّ لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ نَسْفًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَٱذْهَبْ
fa-idh'hab
Then go
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
And indeed
لَكَ
laka
for you
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
the life
أَن
an
that
تَقُولَ
taqūla
you will say
لَا
(Do) not
مِسَاسَ
misāsa
touch
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لَكَ
laka
for you
مَوْعِدًا
mawʿidan
(is) an appointment
لَّن
lan
never
تُخْلَفَهُۥ
tukh'lafahu
you will fail to (keep) it
وَٱنظُرْ
wa-unẓur
And look
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
at
إِلَـٰهِكَ
ilāhika
your god
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
that which
ظَلْتَ
ẓalta
you have remained
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to it
عَاكِفًا
ʿākifan
devoted
لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ
lanuḥarriqannahu
Surely we will burn it
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ
lanansifannahu
certainly we will scatter it
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yami
the sea
نَسْفًا
nasfan
(in) particles
[Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.'1 And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it [i.e., its ashes] into the sea with a blast.

20:98
Ayah 20:98
إِنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًا
إِنَّمَآ
innamā
Only
إِلَـٰهُكُمُ
ilāhukumu
your God
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the One
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
but
هُوَ
huwa
He
وَسِعَ
wasiʿa
He has encompassed
كُلَّ
kulla
all
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
عِلْمًا
ʿil'man
(in) knowledge
Your god is only Allāh, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge."

20:99
Ayah 20:99
كَذَٰلِكَ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ مَا قَدْ سَبَقَ ۚ وَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ مِن لَّدُنَّا ذِكْرًا
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
نَقُصُّ
naquṣṣu
We relate
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
to you
مِنْ
min
from
أَنۢبَآءِ
anbāi
(the) news
مَا
(of) what
قَدْ
qad
has preceded
سَبَقَ
sabaqa
has preceded
وَقَدْ
waqad
And certainly
ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ
ātaynāka
We have given you
مِن
min
from
لَّدُنَّا
ladunnā
Us
ذِكْرًا
dhik'ran
a Reminder
Thus, [O Muḥammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us a message [i.e., the Qur’ān].

20:100
Ayah 20:100
مَّنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وِزْرًا
مَّنْ
man
Whoever
أَعْرَضَ
aʿraḍa
turns away
عَنْهُ
ʿanhu
from it
فَإِنَّهُۥ
fa-innahu
then indeed, he
يَحْمِلُ
yaḥmilu
will bear
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) Resurrection
وِزْرًا
wiz'ran
a burden
Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden [i.e., great sin],

20:101
Ayah 20:101
خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهِ ۖ وَسَآءَ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ حِمْلًا
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīna
Abiding forever
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
وَسَآءَ
wasāa
and evil
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
حِمْلًا
ḥim'lan
(as) a load
[Abiding] eternally therein,1 and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -

20:102
Ayah 20:102
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ وَنَحْشُرُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ زُرْقًا
يَوْمَ
yawma
(The) Day
يُنفَخُ
yunfakhu
will be blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
l-ṣūri
the Trumpet
وَنَحْشُرُ
wanaḥshuru
and We will gather
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
l-muj'rimīna
the criminals
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
زُرْقًا
zur'qan
blue-eyed
The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed.1

20:103
Ayah 20:103
يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا عَشْرًا
يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ
yatakhāfatūna
They are murmuring
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
among themselves
إِن
in
Not
لَّبِثْتُمْ
labith'tum
you remained
إِلَّا
illā
except (for)
عَشْرًا
ʿashran
ten
They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]."

20:104
Ayah 20:104
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذْ يَقُولُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ طَرِيقَةً إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا يَوْمًا
نَّحْنُ
naḥnu
We
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
know best
بِمَا
bimā
what
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
they will say
إِذْ
idh
when
يَقُولُ
yaqūlu
will say
أَمْثَلُهُمْ
amthaluhum
(the) best of them
طَرِيقَةً
ṭarīqatan
(in) conduct
إِن
in
Not
لَّبِثْتُمْ
labith'tum
you remained
إِلَّا
illā
except (for)
يَوْمًا
yawman
a day
We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner [i.e., wisdom or speech] will say, "You remained not but one day."

20:105
Ayah 20:105
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنسِفُهَا رَبِّى نَسْفًا
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
wayasalūnaka
And they ask you
عَنِ
ʿani
about
ٱلْجِبَالِ
l-jibāli
the mountains
فَقُلْ
faqul
so say
يَنسِفُهَا
yansifuhā
Will blast them
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
نَسْفًا
nasfan
(into) particles
And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast.1

20:106
Ayah 20:106
فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعًا صَفْصَفًا
فَيَذَرُهَا
fayadharuhā
Then He will leave it
قَاعًا
qāʿan
a level
صَفْصَفًا
ṣafṣafan
plain
And He will leave it [i.e., the earth] a level plain;

20:107
Ayah 20:107
لَّا تَرَىٰ فِيهَا عِوَجًا وَلَآ أَمْتًا
لَّا
Not
تَرَىٰ
tarā
you will see
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
عِوَجًا
ʿiwajan
any crookedness
وَلَآ
walā
and not
أَمْتًا
amtan
any curve
You will not see therein a depression or an elevation."

20:108
Ayah 20:108
يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلدَّاعِىَ لَا عِوَجَ لَهُۥ ۖ وَخَشَعَتِ ٱلْأَصْوَاتُ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ فَلَا تَسْمَعُ إِلَّا هَمْسًا
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
On that Day
يَتَّبِعُونَ
yattabiʿūna
they will follow
ٱلدَّاعِىَ
l-dāʿiya
the caller
لَا
no
عِوَجَ
ʿiwaja
deviation
لَهُۥ
lahu
from it
وَخَشَعَتِ
wakhashaʿati
And (will be) humbled
ٱلْأَصْوَاتُ
l-aṣwātu
the voices
لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ
lilrraḥmāni
for the Most Gracious
فَلَا
falā
so not
تَسْمَعُ
tasmaʿu
you will hear
إِلَّا
illā
except
هَمْسًا
hamsan
a faint sound
That Day, they [i.e., everyone] will follow [the call of] the Caller1 [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].

20:109
Ayah 20:109
يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا تَنفَعُ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَرَضِىَ لَهُۥ قَوْلًا
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
(On) that Day
لَّا
not
تَنفَعُ
tanfaʿu
will benefit
ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ
l-shafāʿatu
the intercession
إِلَّا
illā
except
مَنْ
man
(to) whom
أَذِنَ
adhina
has given permission
لَهُ
lahu
[to him]
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
وَرَضِىَ
waraḍiya
and He has accepted
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
قَوْلًا
qawlan
a word
That Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word.

20:110
Ayah 20:110
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِهِۦ عِلْمًا
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
He knows
مَا
what
بَيْنَ
bayna
(is) before them
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
(is) before them
وَمَا
wamā
and what
خَلْفَهُمْ
khalfahum
(is) behind them
وَلَا
walā
while not
يُحِيطُونَ
yuḥīṭūna
they encompass
بِهِۦ
bihi
it
عِلْمًا
ʿil'man
(in) knowledge
He [i.e., Allāh] knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them,1 but they do not encompass it [i.e., what He knows] in knowledge.

20:111
Ayah 20:111
۞ وَعَنَتِ ٱلْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَىِّ ٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًا
وَعَنَتِ
waʿanati
And (will be) humbled
ٱلْوُجُوهُ
l-wujūhu
the faces
لِلْحَىِّ
lil'ḥayyi
before the Ever-Living
ٱلْقَيُّومِ
l-qayūmi
the Self-Subsisting
وَقَدْ
waqad
And verily
خَابَ
khāba
will have failed
مَنْ
man
(he) who
حَمَلَ
ḥamala
carried
ظُلْمًا
ẓul'man
wrongdoing
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.1 And he will have failed who carries injustice.2

20:112
Ayah 20:112
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَا يَخَافُ ظُلْمًا وَلَا هَضْمًا
وَمَن
waman
But (he) who
يَعْمَلْ
yaʿmal
does
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
the righteous deeds
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
مُؤْمِنٌ
mu'minun
(is) a believer
فَلَا
falā
then not
يَخَافُ
yakhāfu
he will fear
ظُلْمًا
ẓul'man
injustice
وَلَا
walā
and not
هَضْمًا
haḍman
deprivation
But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation.

20:113
Ayah 20:113
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّا وَصَرَّفْنَا فِيهِ مِنَ ٱلْوَعِيدِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ أَوْ يُحْدِثُ لَهُمْ ذِكْرًا
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhu
We have sent it down
قُرْءَانًا
qur'ānan
(the) Quran
عَرَبِيًّا
ʿarabiyyan
(in) Arabic
وَصَرَّفْنَا
waṣarrafnā
and We have explained
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْوَعِيدِ
l-waʿīdi
the warnings
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
that they may
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaqūna
fear
أَوْ
aw
or
يُحْدِثُ
yuḥ'dithu
it may cause
لَهُمْ
lahum
[for] them
ذِكْرًا
dhik'ran
remembrance
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān1 and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.

20:114
Ayah 20:114
فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا
فَتَعَـٰلَى
fataʿālā
So high (above all)
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
ٱلْمَلِكُ
l-maliku
the King
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
the True
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَعْجَلْ
taʿjal
hasten
بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ
bil-qur'āni
with the Quran
مِن
min
before
قَبْلِ
qabli
before
أَن
an
[that]
يُقْضَىٰٓ
yuq'ḍā
is completed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
وَحْيُهُۥ
waḥyuhu
its revelation
وَقُل
waqul
and say
رَّبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
زِدْنِى
zid'nī
Increase me
عِلْمًا
ʿil'man
(in) knowledge
So high [above all] is Allāh, the Sovereign,1 the Truth.2 And, [O Muḥammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’ān before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

20:115
Ayah 20:115
وَلَقَدْ عَهِدْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ ءَادَمَ مِن قَبْلُ فَنَسِىَ وَلَمْ نَجِدْ لَهُۥ عَزْمًا
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
عَهِدْنَآ
ʿahid'nā
We made a covenant
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
with
ءَادَمَ
ādama
Adam
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
فَنَسِىَ
fanasiya
but he forgot
وَلَمْ
walam
and not
نَجِدْ
najid
We found
لَهُۥ
lahu
in him
عَزْمًا
ʿazman
determination
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.1

20:116
Ayah 20:116
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قُلْنَا
qul'nā
We said
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikati
to the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟
us'judū
Prostrate
لِـَٔادَمَ
liādama
to Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
fasajadū
then they prostrated
إِلَّآ
illā
except
إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsa
Iblis
أَبَىٰ
abā
he refused
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees;1 he refused.

20:117
Ayah 20:117
فَقُلْنَا يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا عَدُوٌّ لَّكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ فَلَا يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا مِنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ فَتَشْقَىٰٓ
فَقُلْنَا
faqul'nā
Then We said
يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ
yāādamu
O Adam
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun

لَّكَ
laka
to you
وَلِزَوْجِكَ
walizawjika
and to your wife
فَلَا
falā
So not
يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا
yukh'rijannakumā
(let) him drive you both
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati
Paradise
فَتَشْقَىٰٓ
fatashqā
so (that) you would suffer
So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.

20:118
Ayah 20:118
إِنَّ لَكَ أَلَّا تَجُوعَ فِيهَا وَلَا تَعْرَىٰ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
لَكَ
laka
for you
أَلَّا
allā
that not
تَجُوعَ
tajūʿa
you will be hungry
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
وَلَا
walā
and not
تَعْرَىٰ
taʿrā
you will be unclothed
Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.

20:119
Ayah 20:119
وَأَنَّكَ لَا تَظْمَؤُا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تَضْحَىٰ
وَأَنَّكَ
wa-annaka
And that you
لَا
not
تَظْمَؤُا۟
taẓma-u
will suffer from thirst
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
وَلَا
walā
and not
تَضْحَىٰ
taḍḥā
exposed to the sun's heat
And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun."

20:120
Ayah 20:120
فَوَسْوَسَ إِلَيْهِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ قَالَ يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَىٰ شَجَرَةِ ٱلْخُلْدِ وَمُلْكٍ لَّا يَبْلَىٰ
فَوَسْوَسَ
fawaswasa
Then whispered
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to him
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan
قَالَ
qāla
he said
يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ
yāādamu
O Adam
هَلْ
hal
Shall
أَدُلُّكَ
adulluka
I direct you
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
شَجَرَةِ
shajarati
(the) tree
ٱلْخُلْدِ
l-khul'di
(of) the Eternity
وَمُلْكٍ
wamul'kin
and a kingdom
لَّا
not
يَبْلَىٰ
yablā
(that will) deteriorate
Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"

20:121
Ayah 20:121
فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ وَعَصَىٰٓ ءَادَمُ رَبَّهُۥ فَغَوَىٰ
فَأَكَلَا
fa-akalā
Then they both ate
مِنْهَا
min'hā
from it
فَبَدَتْ
fabadat
so became apparent
لَهُمَا
lahumā
to them
سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا
sawātuhumā
their shame
وَطَفِقَا
waṭafiqā
and they began
يَخْصِفَانِ
yakhṣifāni
(to) fasten
عَلَيْهِمَا
ʿalayhimā
on themselves
مِن
min
from
وَرَقِ
waraqi
(the) leaves
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati
(of) Paradise
وَعَصَىٰٓ
waʿaṣā
And Adam disobeyed
ءَادَمُ
ādamu
And Adam disobeyed
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu
his Lord
فَغَوَىٰ
faghawā
and erred
And they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

20:122
Ayah 20:122
ثُمَّ ٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَىٰ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
ٱجْتَبَـٰهُ
ij'tabāhu
chose him
رَبُّهُۥ
rabbuhu
his Lord
فَتَابَ
fatāba
and turned
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
وَهَدَىٰ
wahadā
and guided (him)
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].

20:123
Ayah 20:123
قَالَ ٱهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًۢا ۖ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدًى فَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هُدَاىَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
ٱهْبِطَا
ih'biṭā
Go down
مِنْهَا
min'hā
from it
جَمِيعًۢا
jamīʿan
all
بَعْضُكُمْ
baʿḍukum
some of you
لِبَعْضٍ
libaʿḍin
to others
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun
(as) enemy
فَإِمَّا
fa-immā
Then if
يَأْتِيَنَّكُم
yatiyannakum
comes to you
مِّنِّى
minnī
from Me
هُدًى
hudan
guidance
فَمَنِ
famani
then whoever
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿa
follows
هُدَاىَ
hudāya
My guidance
فَلَا
falā
then not
يَضِلُّ
yaḍillu
he will go astray
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَشْقَىٰ
yashqā
suffer
[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise] - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].

20:124
Ayah 20:124
وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِى فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ مَعِيشَةً ضَنكًا وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَعْمَىٰ
وَمَنْ
waman
And whoever
أَعْرَضَ
aʿraḍa
turns away
عَن
ʿan
from
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rī
My remembrance
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
مَعِيشَةً
maʿīshatan
(is) a life
ضَنكًا
ḍankan
straitened
وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ
wanaḥshuruhu
and We will gather him
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
أَعْمَىٰ
aʿmā
blind
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind."

20:125
Ayah 20:125
قَالَ رَبِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِىٓ أَعْمَىٰ وَقَدْ كُنتُ بَصِيرًا
قَالَ
qāla
He will say
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
لِمَ
lima
Why
حَشَرْتَنِىٓ
ḥashartanī
You raised me
أَعْمَىٰ
aʿmā
blind
وَقَدْ
waqad
while [verily]
كُنتُ
kuntu
I had
بَصِيرًا
baṣīran
sight
He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"

20:126
Ayah 20:126
قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ أَتَتْكَ ءَايَـٰتُنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا ۖ وَكَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ تُنسَىٰ
قَالَ
qāla
He will say
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
أَتَتْكَ
atatka
came to you
ءَايَـٰتُنَا
āyātunā
Our Signs
فَنَسِيتَهَا
fanasītahā
but you forgot them
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
and thus
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
تُنسَىٰ
tunsā
you will be forgotten
[Allāh] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot [i.e., disregarded] them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten."

20:127
Ayah 20:127
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنۢ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ ۚ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
We recompense
مَنْ
man
(he) who
أَسْرَفَ
asrafa
transgresses
وَلَمْ
walam
and not
يُؤْمِنۢ
yu'min
believes
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyāti
in (the) Signs
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihi
(of) his Lord
وَلَعَذَابُ
walaʿadhābu
And surely (the) punishment
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu
(is) more severe
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
wa-abqā
and more lasting
And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.1

20:128
Ayah 20:128
أَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِى مَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ
أَفَلَمْ
afalam
Then has not
يَهْدِ
yahdi
it guided
لَهُمْ
lahum
[for] them
كَمْ
kam
how many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknā
We (have) destroyed
قَبْلَهُم
qablahum
before them
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūni
the generations
يَمْشُونَ
yamshūna
(as) they walk
فِى
in
مَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ
masākinihim
their dwellings
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ
laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّأُو۟لِى
li-ulī
for possessors
ٱلنُّهَىٰ
l-nuhā
(of) intelligence
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.

20:129
Ayah 20:129
وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَكَانَ لِزَامًا وَأَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى
وَلَوْلَا
walawlā
And if not
كَلِمَةٌ
kalimatun
(for) a Word
سَبَقَتْ
sabaqat
(that) preceded
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
لَكَانَ
lakāna
surely (would) have been
لِزَامًا
lizāman
an obligation
وَأَجَلٌ
wa-ajalun
and a term
مُّسَمًّى
musamman
determined
And if not for a word1 that preceded from your Lord, it [i.e., punishment] would have been an obligation [due immediately],2 and [if not for] a specified term [decreed].

20:130
Ayah 20:130
فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا ۖ وَمِنْ ءَانَآئِ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْ وَأَطْرَافَ ٱلنَّهَارِ لَعَلَّكَ تَرْضَىٰ
فَٱصْبِرْ
fa-iṣ'bir
So be patient
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
مَا
what
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
they say
وَسَبِّحْ
wasabbiḥ
and glorify
بِحَمْدِ
biḥamdi
with praise
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
قَبْلَ
qabla
before
طُلُوعِ
ṭulūʿi
(the) rising
ٱلشَّمْسِ
l-shamsi
(of) the sun
وَقَبْلَ
waqabla
and before
غُرُوبِهَا
ghurūbihā
its setting
وَمِنْ
wamin
and from
ءَانَآئِ
ānāi
(the) hours
ٱلَّيْلِ
al-layli
(of) the night
فَسَبِّحْ
fasabbiḥ
and glorify
وَأَطْرَافَ
wa-aṭrāfa
(at the) ends
ٱلنَّهَارِ
l-nahāri
(of) the day
لَعَلَّكَ
laʿallaka
so that you may
تَرْضَىٰ
tarḍā
be satisfied
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.

20:131
Ayah 20:131
وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ زَهْرَةَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَرِزْقُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَمُدَّنَّ
tamuddanna
extend
عَيْنَيْكَ
ʿaynayka
your eyes
إِلَىٰ
ilā
towards
مَا
what
مَتَّعْنَا
mattaʿnā
We have given for enjoyment
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
[with it]
أَزْوَٰجًا
azwājan
pairs
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
of them
زَهْرَةَ
zahrata
(the) splendor
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ
linaftinahum
that We may test them
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
وَرِزْقُ
wariz'qu
And (the) provision
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰ
wa-abqā
and more lasting
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.

20:132
Ayah 20:132
وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا ۖ لَا نَسْـَٔلُكَ رِزْقًا ۖ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ ۗ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ
وَأْمُرْ
wamur
And enjoin
أَهْلَكَ
ahlaka
(on) your family
بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
bil-ṣalati
the prayer
وَٱصْطَبِرْ
wa-iṣ'ṭabir
and be steadfast
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
therein
لَا
Not
نَسْـَٔلُكَ
nasaluka
We ask you
رِزْقًا
riz'qan
(for) provision
نَّحْنُ
naḥnu
We
نَرْزُقُكَ
narzuquka
provide (for) you
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ
wal-ʿāqibatu
and the outcome
لِلتَّقْوَىٰ
lilttaqwā
(is) for the righteous[ness]
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.

20:133
Ayah 20:133
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا يَأْتِينَا بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ تَأْتِهِم بَيِّنَةُ مَا فِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālū
And they say
لَوْلَا
lawlā
Why not
يَأْتِينَا
yatīnā
he brings us
بِـَٔايَةٍ
biāyatin
a sign
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّهِۦٓ
rabbihi
his Lord
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Has not
تَأْتِهِم
tatihim
come to them
بَيِّنَةُ
bayyinatu
evidence
مَا
(of) what
فِى
(was) in
ٱلصُّحُفِ
l-ṣuḥufi
the Scriptures
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā
the former
And they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them evidence of what was in the former scriptures?1

20:134
Ayah 20:134
وَلَوْ أَنَّآ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم بِعَذَابٍ مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ لَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَآ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَـٰتِكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن نَّذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
أَنَّآ
annā
We
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم
ahlaknāhum
(had) destroyed them
بِعَذَابٍ
biʿadhābin
with a punishment
مِّن
min
before him
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihi
before him
لَقَالُوا۟
laqālū
surely they (would) have said
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
لَوْلَآ
lawlā
why not
أَرْسَلْتَ
arsalta
You sent
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynā
to us
رَسُولًا
rasūlan
a Messenger
فَنَتَّبِعَ
fanattabiʿa
so we (could) have followed
ءَايَـٰتِكَ
āyātika
Your signs
مِن
min
before
قَبْلِ
qabli
before
أَن
an
[that]
نَّذِلَّ
nadhilla
we were humiliated
وَنَخْزَىٰ
wanakhzā
and disgraced
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him,1 they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses [i.e., teachings] before we were humiliated and disgraced?"

20:135
Ayah 20:135
قُلْ كُلٌّ مُّتَرَبِّصٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ ٱلسَّوِىِّ وَمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
قُلْ
qul
Say
كُلٌّ
kullun
Each
مُّتَرَبِّصٌ
mutarabbiṣun
(is) waiting
فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟
fatarabbaṣū
so await
فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ
fasataʿlamūna
Then you will know
مَنْ
man
who
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu
(are the) companions
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
l-ṣirāṭi
(of) the way
ٱلسَّوِىِّ
l-sawiyi
[the] even
وَمَنِ
wamani
and who
ٱهْتَدَىٰ
ih'tadā
is guided
Say, "Each [of us] is waiting;1 so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided."
