Ayah 28:2
تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ
تِلْكَ
til'ka
These
ءَايَـٰتُ
āyātu
(are the) Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi
(of) the Book
ٱلْمُبِينِ
l-mubīni
the clear
These are verses of the clear Book.

28:3
Ayah 28:3
نَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْكَ مِن نَّبَإِ مُوسَىٰ وَفِرْعَوْنَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ
نَتْلُوا۟
natlū
We recite
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
to you
مِن
min
from
نَّبَإِ
naba-i
(the) news
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(of) Musa
وَفِرْعَوْنَ
wafir'ʿawna
and Firaun
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
لِقَوْمٍ
liqawmin
for a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
who believe
We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.

28:4
Ayah 28:4
إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ عَلَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلَ أَهْلَهَا شِيَعًا يَسْتَضْعِفُ طَآئِفَةً مِّنْهُمْ يُذَبِّحُ أَبْنَآءَهُمْ وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
عَلَا
ʿalā
exalted himself
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
وَجَعَلَ
wajaʿala
and made
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahā
its people
شِيَعًا
shiyaʿan
(into) sects
يَسْتَضْعِفُ
yastaḍʿifu
oppressing
طَآئِفَةً
ṭāifatan
a group
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
among them
يُذَبِّحُ
yudhabbiḥu
slaughtering
أَبْنَآءَهُمْ
abnāahum
their sons
وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ
wayastaḥyī
and letting live
نِسَآءَهُمْ
nisāahum
their women
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ
kāna
was
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīna
the corrupters
Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.

28:5
Ayah 28:5
وَنُرِيدُ أَن نَّمُنَّ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ أَئِمَّةً وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
وَنُرِيدُ
wanurīdu
And We wanted
أَن
an
to
نَّمُنَّ
namunna
bestow a favor
عَلَى
ʿalā
upon
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟
us'tuḍ'ʿifū
were oppressed
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ
wanajʿalahum
and make them
أَئِمَّةً
a-immatan
leaders
وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ
wanajʿalahumu
and make them
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
l-wārithīna
the inheritors
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors

28:6
Ayah 28:6
وَنُمَكِّنَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَنُرِىَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَجُنُودَهُمَا مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَحْذَرُونَ
وَنُمَكِّنَ
wanumakkina
And [We] establish
لَهُمْ
lahum
them
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
وَنُرِىَ
wanuriya
and show
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ
wahāmāna
and Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَا
wajunūdahumā
and their hosts
مِنْهُم
min'hum
through them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they were
يَحْذَرُونَ
yaḥdharūna
fearing
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Hāmān and their soldiers through them1 that which they had feared.

28:7
Ayah 28:7
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَرْضِعِيهِ ۖ فَإِذَا خِفْتِ عَلَيْهِ فَأَلْقِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَلَا تَخَافِى وَلَا تَحْزَنِىٓ ۖ إِنَّا رَآدُّوهُ إِلَيْكِ وَجَاعِلُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ
wa-awḥaynā
And We inspired
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
[to]
أُمِّ
ummi
(the) mother
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
(of) Musa
أَنْ
an
that
أَرْضِعِيهِ
arḍiʿīhi
Suckle him
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
but when
خِفْتِ
khif'ti
you fear
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for him
فَأَلْقِيهِ
fa-alqīhi
then cast him
فِى
in(to)
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yami
the river
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَخَافِى
takhāfī
fear
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَحْزَنِىٓ
taḥzanī
grieve
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
رَآدُّوهُ
rāddūhu
(will) restore him
إِلَيْكِ
ilayki
to you
وَجَاعِلُوهُ
wajāʿilūhu
and (will) make him
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."

28:8
Ayah 28:8
فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ ءَالُ فِرْعَوْنَ لِيَكُونَ لَهُمْ عَدُوًّا وَحَزَنًا ۗ إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَجُنُودَهُمَا كَانُوا۟ خَـٰطِـِٔينَ
فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ
fal-taqaṭahu
Then picked him up
ءَالُ
ālu
(the) family
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
لِيَكُونَ
liyakūna
so that he might become
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
عَدُوًّا
ʿaduwwan
an enemy
وَحَزَنًا
waḥazanan
and a grief
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ
wahāmāna
and Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَا
wajunūdahumā
and their hosts
كَانُوا۟
kānū
were
خَـٰطِـِٔينَ
khāṭiīna
sinners
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Hāmān and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.

28:9
Ayah 28:9
وَقَالَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُ فِرْعَوْنَ قُرَّتُ عَيْنٍ لِّى وَلَكَ ۖ لَا تَقْتُلُوهُ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَنفَعَنَآ أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُۥ وَلَدًا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
وَقَالَتِ
waqālati
And said
ٱمْرَأَتُ
im'ra-atu
(the) wife
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
قُرَّتُ
qurratu
A comfort
عَيْنٍ
ʿaynin
(of the) eye
لِّى
for me
وَلَكَ
walaka
and for you
لَا
(Do) not
تَقْتُلُوهُ
taqtulūhu
kill him
عَسَىٰٓ
ʿasā
perhaps
أَن
an
(that)
يَنفَعَنَآ
yanfaʿanā
he may benefit us
أَوْ
aw
or
نَتَّخِذَهُۥ
nattakhidhahu
we may take him
وَلَدًا
waladan
(as) a son
وَهُمْ
wahum
And they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ
yashʿurūna
perceive
And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye [i.e., pleasure] for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.1

28:10
Ayah 28:10
وَأَصْبَحَ فُؤَادُ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ فَـٰرِغًا ۖ إِن كَادَتْ لَتُبْدِى بِهِۦ لَوْلَآ أَن رَّبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قَلْبِهَا لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
وَأَصْبَحَ
wa-aṣbaḥa
And became
فُؤَادُ
fuādu
(the) heart
أُمِّ
ummi
(of the) mother
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(of) Musa
فَـٰرِغًا
fārighan
empty
إِن
in
That
كَادَتْ
kādat
she was near
لَتُبْدِى
latub'dī
(to) disclosing
بِهِۦ
bihi
about him
لَوْلَآ
lawlā
if not
أَن
an
that
رَّبَطْنَا
rabaṭnā
We strengthened
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
[over]
قَلْبِهَا
qalbihā
her heart
لِتَكُونَ
litakūna
so that she would be
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
the believers
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.

28:11
Ayah 28:11
وَقَالَتْ لِأُخْتِهِۦ قُصِّيهِ ۖ فَبَصُرَتْ بِهِۦ عَن جُنُبٍ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
وَقَالَتْ
waqālat
And she said
لِأُخْتِهِۦ
li-ukh'tihi
to his sister
قُصِّيهِ
quṣṣīhi
Follow him
فَبَصُرَتْ
fabaṣurat
So she watched
بِهِۦ
bihi
him
عَن
ʿan
from
جُنُبٍ
junubin
a distance
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ
yashʿurūna
perceive
And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.

28:12
Ayah 28:12
۞ وَحَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِ ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ مِن قَبْلُ فَقَالَتْ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ لَكُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُۥ نَـٰصِحُونَ
وَحَرَّمْنَا
waḥarramnā
And We had forbidden
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for him
ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ
l-marāḍiʿa
the wet nurses
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
فَقَالَتْ
faqālat
so she said
هَلْ
hal
Shall I
أَدُلُّكُمْ
adullukum
direct you
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
to
أَهْلِ
ahli
(the) people
بَيْتٍ
baytin
(of) a house
يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ
yakfulūnahu
who will rear him
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
نَـٰصِحُونَ
nāṣiḥūna
(will be) sincere
And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before,1 so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"

28:13
Ayah 28:13
فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّهِۦ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ وَلِتَعْلَمَ أَنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ
faradadnāhu
So We restored him
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أُمِّهِۦ
ummihi
his mother
كَىْ
kay
that
تَقَرَّ
taqarra
might be comforted
عَيْنُهَا
ʿaynuhā
her eye
وَلَا
walā
and not
تَحْزَنَ
taḥzana
she may grieve
وَلِتَعْلَمَ
walitaʿlama
and that she would know
أَنَّ
anna
that
وَعْدَ
waʿda
the Promise of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
the Promise of Allah
حَقٌّ
ḥaqqun
(is) true
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
But
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahum
most of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
know
So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allāh is true. But most of them [i.e., the people] do not know.

28:14
Ayah 28:14
وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ وَٱسْتَوَىٰٓ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
وَلَمَّا
walammā
And when
بَلَغَ
balagha
he reached
أَشُدَّهُۥ
ashuddahu
his full strength
وَٱسْتَوَىٰٓ
wa-is'tawā
and became mature
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
ātaynāhu
We bestowed upon him
حُكْمًا
ḥuk'man
wisdom
وَعِلْمًا
waʿil'man
and knowledge
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
We reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.

28:15
Ayah 28:15
وَدَخَلَ ٱلْمَدِينَةَ عَلَىٰ حِينِ غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا فَوَجَدَ فِيهَا رَجُلَيْنِ يَقْتَتِلَانِ هَـٰذَا مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ وَهَـٰذَا مِنْ عَدُوِّهِۦ ۖ فَٱسْتَغَـٰثَهُ ٱلَّذِى مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ عَلَى ٱلَّذِى مِنْ عَدُوِّهِۦ فَوَكَزَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ فَقَضَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ۖ قَالَ هَـٰذَا مِنْ عَمَلِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَدُوٌّ مُّضِلٌّ مُّبِينٌ
وَدَخَلَ
wadakhala
And he entered
ٱلْمَدِينَةَ
l-madīnata
the city
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
at
حِينِ
ḥīni
a time
غَفْلَةٍ
ghaflatin
(of) inattention
مِّنْ
min
of
أَهْلِهَا
ahlihā
its people
فَوَجَدَ
fawajada
and found
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
رَجُلَيْنِ
rajulayni
two men
يَقْتَتِلَانِ
yaqtatilāni
fighting each other
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
مِن
min
of
شِيعَتِهِۦ
shīʿatihi
his party
وَهَـٰذَا
wahādhā
and this
مِنْ
min
of
عَدُوِّهِۦ
ʿaduwwihi
his enemy
فَٱسْتَغَـٰثَهُ
fa-is'taghāthahu
And called him for help
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the one who
مِن
min
(was) from
شِيعَتِهِۦ
shīʿatihi
his party
عَلَى
ʿalā
against
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the one who
مِنْ
min
(was) from
عَدُوِّهِۦ
ʿaduwwihi
his enemy
فَوَكَزَهُۥ
fawakazahu
so Musa struck him with his fist
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
so Musa struck him with his fist
فَقَضَىٰ
faqaḍā
and killed him
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
and killed him
قَالَ
qāla
He said
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This (is)
مِنْ
min
of
عَمَلِ
ʿamali
(the) deed
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ
l-shayṭāni
(of) Shaitaan
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun
(is) an enemy
مُّضِلٌّ
muḍillun
one who misleads
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clearly
And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people1 and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."

28:16
Ayah 28:16
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِى فَٱغْفِرْ لِى فَغَفَرَ لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
ظَلَمْتُ
ẓalamtu
[I] have wronged
نَفْسِى
nafsī
my soul
فَٱغْفِرْ
fa-igh'fir
so forgive
لِى
[for] me
فَغَفَرَ
faghafara
Then He forgave
لَهُۥٓ
lahu
[for] him
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed He
هُوَ
huwa
He (is)
ٱلْغَفُورُ
l-ghafūru
the Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
l-raḥīmu
the Most Merciful
He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

28:17
Ayah 28:17
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ فَلَنْ أَكُونَ ظَهِيرًا لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
بِمَآ
bimā
Because
أَنْعَمْتَ
anʿamta
You have favored
عَلَىَّ
ʿalayya
[on] me
فَلَنْ
falan
so not
أَكُونَ
akūna
I will be
ظَهِيرًا
ẓahīran
a supporter
لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ
lil'muj'rimīna
(of) the criminals
He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals."

28:18
Ayah 28:18
فَأَصْبَحَ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ خَآئِفًا يَتَرَقَّبُ فَإِذَا ٱلَّذِى ٱسْتَنصَرَهُۥ بِٱلْأَمْسِ يَسْتَصْرِخُهُۥ ۚ قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّكَ لَغَوِىٌّ مُّبِينٌ
فَأَصْبَحَ
fa-aṣbaḥa
In the morning he was
فِى
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnati
the city
خَآئِفًا
khāifan
fearful
يَتَرَقَّبُ
yataraqqabu
(and) was vigilant
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
when behold
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
The one who
ٱسْتَنصَرَهُۥ
is'tanṣarahu
sought his help
بِٱلْأَمْسِ
bil-amsi
the previous day
يَسْتَصْرِخُهُۥ
yastaṣrikhuhu
cried out to him for help
قَالَ
qāla
Said
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
Musa
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
لَغَوِىٌّ
laghawiyyun
(are) surely a deviator
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."

28:19
Ayah 28:19
فَلَمَّآ أَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يَبْطِشَ بِٱلَّذِى هُوَ عَدُوٌّ لَّهُمَا قَالَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ أَتُرِيدُ أَن تَقْتُلَنِى كَمَا قَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۢا بِٱلْأَمْسِ ۖ إِن تُرِيدُ إِلَّآ أَن تَكُونَ جَبَّارًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا تُرِيدُ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ
فَلَمَّآ
falammā
Then when
أَنْ
an

أَرَادَ
arāda
he wanted
أَن
an

يَبْطِشَ
yabṭisha
strike
بِٱلَّذِى
bi-alladhī
the one who
هُوَ
huwa
[he] (was)
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun
an enemy
لَّهُمَا
lahumā
to both of them
قَالَ
qāla
he said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsā
O Musa
أَتُرِيدُ
aturīdu
Do you intend
أَن
an
to
تَقْتُلَنِى
taqtulanī
kill me
كَمَا
kamā
as
قَتَلْتَ
qatalta
you killed
نَفْسًۢا
nafsan
a person
بِٱلْأَمْسِ
bil-amsi
yesterday
إِن
in
Not
تُرِيدُ
turīdu
you want
إِلَّآ
illā
but
أَن
an
that
تَكُونَ
takūna
you become
جَبَّارًا
jabbāran
a tyrant
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and not
تُرِيدُ
turīdu
you want
أَن
an
that
تَكُونَ
takūna
you be
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ
l-muṣ'liḥīna
the reformers
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he1 said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."

28:20
Ayah 28:20
وَجَآءَ رَجُلٌ مِّنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّ ٱلْمَلَأَ يَأْتَمِرُونَ بِكَ لِيَقْتُلُوكَ فَٱخْرُجْ إِنِّى لَكَ مِنَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ
وَجَآءَ
wajāa
And came
رَجُلٌ
rajulun
a man
مِّنْ
min
from
أَقْصَا
aqṣā
(the) farthest end
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnati
(of) the city
يَسْعَىٰ
yasʿā
running
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsā
O Musa
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلْمَلَأَ
l-mala-a
the chiefs
يَأْتَمِرُونَ
yatamirūna
are taking counsel
بِكَ
bika
about you
لِيَقْتُلُوكَ
liyaqtulūka
to kill you
فَٱخْرُجْ
fa-ukh'ruj
so leave
إِنِّى
innī
indeed, I am
لَكَ
laka
to you
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ
l-nāṣiḥīna
the sincere advisors
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."

28:21
Ayah 28:21
فَخَرَجَ مِنْهَا خَآئِفًا يَتَرَقَّبُ ۖ قَالَ رَبِّ نَجِّنِى مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
فَخَرَجَ
fakharaja
So he left
مِنْهَا
min'hā
from it
خَآئِفًا
khāifan
fearing
يَتَرَقَّبُ
yataraqqabu
(and) vigilant
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
نَجِّنِى
najjinī
Save me
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."

28:22
Ayah 28:22
وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ تِلْقَآءَ مَدْيَنَ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبِّىٓ أَن يَهْدِيَنِى سَوَآءَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ
وَلَمَّا
walammā
And when
تَوَجَّهَ
tawajjaha
he turned his face
تِلْقَآءَ
til'qāa
towards
مَدْيَنَ
madyana
Madyan
قَالَ
qāla
he said
عَسَىٰ
ʿasā
Perhaps
رَبِّىٓ
rabbī
my Lord
أَن
an
[that]
يَهْدِيَنِى
yahdiyanī
will guide me
سَوَآءَ
sawāa
(to the) sound
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
l-sabīli
way
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."

28:23
Ayah 28:23
وَلَمَّا وَرَدَ مَآءَ مَدْيَنَ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّةً مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْقُونَ وَوَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمُ ٱمْرَأَتَيْنِ تَذُودَانِ ۖ قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُمَا ۖ قَالَتَا لَا نَسْقِى حَتَّىٰ يُصْدِرَ ٱلرِّعَآءُ ۖ وَأَبُونَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ
وَلَمَّا
walammā
And when
وَرَدَ
warada
he came
مَآءَ
māa
(to the) water
مَدْيَنَ
madyana
(of) Madyan
وَجَدَ
wajada
he found
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
on it
أُمَّةً
ummatan
a group
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
men
يَسْقُونَ
yasqūna
watering
وَوَجَدَ
wawajada
and he found
مِن
min
besides them
دُونِهِمُ
dūnihimu
besides them
ٱمْرَأَتَيْنِ
im'ra-atayni
two women
تَذُودَانِ
tadhūdāni
keeping back
قَالَ
qāla
He said
مَا
What
خَطْبُكُمَا
khaṭbukumā
(is the) matter with both of you
قَالَتَا
qālatā
They said
لَا
We cannot water
نَسْقِى
nasqī
We cannot water
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
يُصْدِرَ
yuṣ'dira
take away
ٱلرِّعَآءُ
l-riʿāu
the shepherds
وَأَبُونَا
wa-abūnā
and our father
شَيْخٌ
shaykhun
(is) a very old man
كَبِيرٌ
kabīrun
(is) a very old man
And when he came to the water [i.e., well] of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women holding back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."

28:24
Ayah 28:24
فَسَقَىٰ لَهُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَلَّىٰٓ إِلَى ٱلظِّلِّ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى لِمَآ أَنزَلْتَ إِلَىَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
فَسَقَىٰ
fasaqā
So he watered
لَهُمَا
lahumā
for them
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
تَوَلَّىٰٓ
tawallā
he turned back
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلظِّلِّ
l-ẓili
the shade
فَقَالَ
faqāla
and said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I am
لِمَآ
limā
of whatever
أَنزَلْتَ
anzalta
You send
إِلَىَّ
ilayya
to me
مِنْ
min
of
خَيْرٍ
khayrin
good
فَقِيرٌ
faqīrun
(in) need
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."

28:25
Ayah 28:25
فَجَآءَتْهُ إِحْدَىٰهُمَا تَمْشِى عَلَى ٱسْتِحْيَآءٍ قَالَتْ إِنَّ أَبِى يَدْعُوكَ لِيَجْزِيَكَ أَجْرَ مَا سَقَيْتَ لَنَا ۚ فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُۥ وَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَصَصَ قَالَ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ نَجَوْتَ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
فَجَآءَتْهُ
fajāathu
Then came to him
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا
iḥ'dāhumā
one of the two women
تَمْشِى
tamshī
walking
عَلَى
ʿalā
with
ٱسْتِحْيَآءٍ
is'tiḥ'yāin
shyness
قَالَتْ
qālat
She said
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
أَبِى
abī
my father
يَدْعُوكَ
yadʿūka
calls you
لِيَجْزِيَكَ
liyajziyaka
that he may reward you
أَجْرَ
ajra
(the) reward
مَا
(for) what
سَقَيْتَ
saqayta
you watered
لَنَا
lanā
for us
فَلَمَّا
falammā
So when
جَآءَهُۥ
jāahu
he came to him
وَقَصَّ
waqaṣṣa
and narrated
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
ٱلْقَصَصَ
l-qaṣaṣa
the story
قَالَ
qāla
he said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفْ
takhaf
fear
نَجَوْتَ
najawta
You have escaped
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him1 and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people."

28:26
Ayah 28:26
قَالَتْ إِحْدَىٰهُمَا يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱسْتَـْٔجِرْهُ ۖ إِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنِ ٱسْتَـْٔجَرْتَ ٱلْقَوِىُّ ٱلْأَمِينُ
قَالَتْ
qālat
Said
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا
iḥ'dāhumā
one of them
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ
yāabati
O my father
ٱسْتَـْٔجِرْهُ
is'tajir'hu
Hire him
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
خَيْرَ
khayra
(the) best
مَنِ
mani
whom
ٱسْتَـْٔجَرْتَ
is'tajarta
you (can) hire
ٱلْقَوِىُّ
l-qawiyu
(is) the strong
ٱلْأَمِينُ
l-amīnu
the trustworthy
One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."

28:27
Ayah 28:27
قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُنكِحَكَ إِحْدَى ٱبْنَتَىَّ هَـٰتَيْنِ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَأْجُرَنِى ثَمَـٰنِىَ حِجَجٍ ۖ فَإِنْ أَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا فَمِنْ عِندِكَ ۖ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ ۚ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أُرِيدُ
urīdu
[I] wish
أَنْ
an
to
أُنكِحَكَ
unkiḥaka
marry you to
إِحْدَى
iḥ'dā
one
ٱبْنَتَىَّ
ib'natayya
(of) my daughters
هَـٰتَيْنِ
hātayni
(of) these two
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
أَن
an
that
تَأْجُرَنِى
tajuranī
you serve me
ثَمَـٰنِىَ
thamāniya
(for) eight
حِجَجٍ
ḥijajin
years
فَإِنْ
fa-in
but if
أَتْمَمْتَ
atmamta
you complete
عَشْرًا
ʿashran
ten
فَمِنْ
famin
then from
عِندِكَ
ʿindika
you
وَمَآ
wamā
And not
أُرِيدُ
urīdu
I wish
أَنْ
an
to
أَشُقَّ
ashuqqa
make it difficult
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
for you
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ
satajidunī
You will find me
إِن
in
if
شَآءَ
shāa
Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah wills
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allāh wills, from among the righteous."

28:28
Ayah 28:28
قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكَ ۖ أَيَّمَا ٱلْأَجَلَيْنِ قَضَيْتُ فَلَا عُدْوَٰنَ عَلَىَّ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَا نَقُولُ وَكِيلٌ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بَيْنِى
baynī
(is) between me
وَبَيْنَكَ
wabaynaka
and between you
أَيَّمَا
ayyamā
Whichever
ٱلْأَجَلَيْنِ
l-ajalayni
(of) the two terms
قَضَيْتُ
qaḍaytu
I complete
فَلَا
falā
then no
عُدْوَٰنَ
ʿud'wāna
injustice
عَلَىَّ
ʿalayya
to me
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
and Allah
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
مَا
what
نَقُولُ
naqūlu
we say
وَكِيلٌ
wakīlun
(is) a Witness
[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete - there is no injustice to me, and Allāh, over what we say, is Witness."

28:29
Ayah 28:29
۞ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ مُوسَى ٱلْأَجَلَ وَسَارَ بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ ءَانَسَ مِن جَانِبِ ٱلطُّورِ نَارًا قَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ إِنِّىٓ ءَانَسْتُ نَارًا لَّعَلِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِخَبَرٍ أَوْ جَذْوَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُونَ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
Then when
قَضَىٰ
qaḍā
Musa fulfilled
مُوسَى
mūsā
Musa fulfilled
ٱلْأَجَلَ
l-ajala
the term
وَسَارَ
wasāra
and was traveling
بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ
bi-ahlihi
with his family
ءَانَسَ
ānasa
he saw
مِن
min
in
جَانِبِ
jānibi
(the) direction
ٱلطُّورِ
l-ṭūri
(of) Mount Tur
نَارًا
nāran
a fire
قَالَ
qāla
He said
لِأَهْلِهِ
li-ahlihi
to his family
ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟
um'kuthū
Stay here
إِنِّىٓ
innī
indeed, I
ءَانَسْتُ
ānastu
[I] perceive
نَارًا
nāran
a fire
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallī
Perhaps
ءَاتِيكُم
ātīkum
I will bring you
مِّنْهَا
min'hā
from there
بِخَبَرٍ
bikhabarin
some information
أَوْ
aw
or
جَذْوَةٍ
jadhwatin
a burning wood
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the fire
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakum
so that you may
تَصْطَلُونَ
taṣṭalūna
warm yourselves
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves."

28:30
Ayah 28:30
فَلَمَّآ أَتَىٰهَا نُودِىَ مِن شَـٰطِئِ ٱلْوَادِ ٱلْأَيْمَنِ فِى ٱلْبُقْعَةِ ٱلْمُبَـٰرَكَةِ مِنَ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ أَن يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
فَلَمَّآ
falammā
But when
أَتَىٰهَا
atāhā
he came (to) it
نُودِىَ
nūdiya
he was called
مِن
min
from
شَـٰطِئِ
shāṭi-i
(the) side
ٱلْوَادِ
l-wādi
(of) the valley
ٱلْأَيْمَنِ
l-aymani
the right
فِى
in
ٱلْبُقْعَةِ
l-buq'ʿati
the place even
ٱلْمُبَـٰرَكَةِ
l-mubārakati
blessed
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ
l-shajarati
the tree
أَن
an
that
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsā
O Musa
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed
أَنَا
anā
I Am
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
رَبُّ
rabbu
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the tree,1 "O Moses, indeed I am Allāh, Lord of the worlds."

28:31
Ayah 28:31
وَأَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ ۖ فَلَمَّا رَءَاهَا تَهْتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَآنٌّ وَلَّىٰ مُدْبِرًا وَلَمْ يُعَقِّبْ ۚ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ أَقْبِلْ وَلَا تَخَفْ ۖ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْـَٔامِنِينَ
وَأَنْ
wa-an
And [that]
أَلْقِ
alqi
throw
عَصَاكَ
ʿaṣāka
your staff
فَلَمَّا
falammā
But when
رَءَاهَا
raāhā
he saw it
تَهْتَزُّ
tahtazzu
moving
كَأَنَّهَا
ka-annahā
as if it
جَآنٌّ
jānnun
(were) a snake
وَلَّىٰ
wallā
he turned
مُدْبِرًا
mud'biran
(in) flight
وَلَمْ
walam
and (did) not
يُعَقِّبْ
yuʿaqqib
return
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsā
O Musa
أَقْبِلْ
aqbil
Draw near
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَخَفْ
takhaf
fear
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
مِنَ
mina
(are) of
ٱلْـَٔامِنِينَ
l-āminīna
the secure
And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return.1 [Allāh said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.

28:32
Ayah 28:32
ٱسْلُكْ يَدَكَ فِى جَيْبِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍ وَٱضْمُمْ إِلَيْكَ جَنَاحَكَ مِنَ ٱلرَّهْبِ ۖ فَذَٰنِكَ بُرْهَـٰنَانِ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ
ٱسْلُكْ
us'luk
Insert
يَدَكَ
yadaka
your hand
فِى
in
جَيْبِكَ
jaybika
your bosom
تَخْرُجْ
takhruj
it will come forth
بَيْضَآءَ
bayḍāa
white
مِنْ
min
without
غَيْرِ
ghayri
without
سُوٓءٍ
sūin
any harm
وَٱضْمُمْ
wa-uḍ'mum
And draw
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to yourselves
جَنَاحَكَ
janāḥaka
your hand
مِنَ
mina
against
ٱلرَّهْبِ
l-rahbi
fear
فَذَٰنِكَ
fadhānika
So these
بُرْهَـٰنَانِ
bur'hānāni
(are) two evidences
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦٓ
wamala-ihi
and his chiefs
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they
كَانُوا۟
kānū
are
قَوْمًا
qawman
a people
فَـٰسِقِينَ
fāsiqīna
defiantly disobedient
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."

28:33
Ayah 28:33
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى قَتَلْتُ مِنْهُمْ نَفْسًا فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed
قَتَلْتُ
qataltu
I killed
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
of them
نَفْسًا
nafsan
a man
فَأَخَافُ
fa-akhāfu
and I fear
أَن
an
that
يَقْتُلُونِ
yaqtulūni
they will kill me
He said, "My Lord, indeed I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.

28:34
Ayah 28:34
وَأَخِى هَـٰرُونُ هُوَ أَفْصَحُ مِنِّى لِسَانًا فَأَرْسِلْهُ مَعِىَ رِدْءًا يُصَدِّقُنِىٓ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ
وَأَخِى
wa-akhī
And my brother
هَـٰرُونُ
hārūnu
Harun
هُوَ
huwa
he
أَفْصَحُ
afṣaḥu
(is) more eloquent
مِنِّى
minnī
than me
لِسَانًا
lisānan
(in) speech
فَأَرْسِلْهُ
fa-arsil'hu
so send him
مَعِىَ
maʿiya
with me
رِدْءًا
rid'an
(as) a helper
يُصَدِّقُنِىٓ
yuṣaddiqunī
who will confirm me
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed
أَخَافُ
akhāfu
I fear
أَن
an
that
يُكَذِّبُونِ
yukadhibūni
they will deny me
And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."

28:35
Ayah 28:35
قَالَ سَنَشُدُّ عَضُدَكَ بِأَخِيكَ وَنَجْعَلُ لَكُمَا سُلْطَـٰنًا فَلَا يَصِلُونَ إِلَيْكُمَا ۚ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ أَنتُمَا وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكُمَا ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
سَنَشُدُّ
sanashuddu
We will strengthen
عَضُدَكَ
ʿaḍudaka
your arm
بِأَخِيكَ
bi-akhīka
through your brother
وَنَجْعَلُ
wanajʿalu
and We will make
لَكُمَا
lakumā
for both of you
سُلْطَـٰنًا
sul'ṭānan
an authority
فَلَا
falā
so not
يَصِلُونَ
yaṣilūna
they will reach
إِلَيْكُمَا
ilaykumā
to both of you
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ
biāyātinā
Through Our Signs
أَنتُمَا
antumā
you two
وَمَنِ
wamani
and (those) who
ٱتَّبَعَكُمَا
ittabaʿakumā
follow you
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ
l-ghālibūna
(will) be the dominant
[Allāh] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."

28:36
Ayah 28:36
فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم مُّوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا بَيِّنَـٰتٍ قَالُوا۟ مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّفْتَرًى وَمَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
But when
جَآءَهُم
jāahum
came to them
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātinā
with Our Signs
بَيِّنَـٰتٍ
bayyinātin
clear
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they said
مَا
Not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا
illā
except
سِحْرٌ
siḥ'run
a magic
مُّفْتَرًى
muf'taran
invented
وَمَا
wamā
and not
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nā
we heard
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhā
of this
فِىٓ
among
ءَابَآئِنَا
ābāinā
our forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
our forefathers
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."

28:37
Ayah 28:37
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ رَبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن جَآءَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ مِنْ عِندِهِۦ وَمَن تَكُونُ لَهُۥ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلدَّارِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And Musa said
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
And Musa said
رَبِّىٓ
rabbī
My Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
knows best
بِمَن
biman
of who
جَآءَ
jāa
has come
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ
bil-hudā
with [the] guidance
مِنْ
min
from Him
عِندِهِۦ
ʿindihi
from Him
وَمَن
waman
and who
تَكُونُ
takūnu
will be
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
the good end in the Hereafter
ٱلدَّارِ
l-dāri
the good end in the Hereafter
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed
لَا
not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥu
will be successful
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home.1 Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."

28:38
Ayah 28:38
وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمَلَأُ مَا عَلِمْتُ لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرِى فَأَوْقِدْ لِى يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلطِّينِ فَٱجْعَل لِّى صَرْحًا لَّعَلِّىٓ أَطَّلِعُ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And Firaun said
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
And Firaun said
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O chiefs
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-u
O chiefs
مَا
Not
عَلِمْتُ
ʿalim'tu
I know
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنْ
min
any
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhin
god
غَيْرِى
ghayrī
other than me
فَأَوْقِدْ
fa-awqid
So kindle
لِى
for me
يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ
yāhāmānu
O Haman
عَلَى
ʿalā
Upon
ٱلطِّينِ
l-ṭīni
the clay
فَٱجْعَل
fa-ij'ʿal
and make
لِّى
for me
صَرْحًا
ṣarḥan
a lofty tower
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallī
so that [I]
أَطَّلِعُ
aṭṭaliʿu
I may look
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
at
إِلَـٰهِ
ilāhi
(the) God
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(of) Musa
وَإِنِّى
wa-innī
And indeed, I
لَأَظُنُّهُۥ
la-aẓunnuhu
[I] think that he
مِنَ
mina
(is) of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
l-kādhibīna
the liars
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay1 and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."

28:39
Ayah 28:39
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ هُوَ وَجُنُودُهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا يُرْجَعُونَ
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
wa-is'takbara
And he was arrogant
هُوَ
huwa
And he was arrogant
وَجُنُودُهُۥ
wajunūduhu
and his hosts
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi
right
وَظَنُّوٓا۟
waẓannū
and they thought
أَنَّهُمْ
annahum
that they
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynā
to Us
لَا
not
يُرْجَعُونَ
yur'jaʿūna
will be returned
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.

28:40
Ayah 28:40
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ ۖ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ
fa-akhadhnāhu
So We seized him
وَجُنُودَهُۥ
wajunūdahu
and his hosts
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ
fanabadhnāhum
and We threw them
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yami
the sea
فَٱنظُرْ
fa-unẓur
So see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
كَانَ
kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
(of) the wrongdoers
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea.1 So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.

28:41
Ayah 28:41
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَا يُنصَرُونَ
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ
wajaʿalnāhum
And We made them
أَئِمَّةً
a-immatan
leaders
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūna
inviting
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
and (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
لَا
not
يُنصَرُونَ
yunṣarūna
they will be helped
And We made them leaders1 inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.

28:42
Ayah 28:42
وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ فِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعْنَةً ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ هُم مِّنَ ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ
وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ
wa-atbaʿnāhum
And We caused to follow them
فِى
in
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihi
this
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
world
لَعْنَةً
laʿnatan
a curse
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
and (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
هُم
hum
they
مِّنَ
mina
(will be) of
ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ
l-maqbūḥīna
the despised
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.1

28:43
Ayah 28:43
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْقُرُونَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ بَصَآئِرَ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
ءَاتَيْنَا
ātaynā
We gave
مُوسَى
mūsā
Musa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Scripture
مِنۢ
min
after [what]
بَعْدِ
baʿdi
after [what]
مَآ
after [what]
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknā
We had destroyed
ٱلْقُرُونَ
l-qurūna
the generations
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā
former
بَصَآئِرَ
baṣāira
(as) an enlightenment
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsi
for the mankind
وَهُدًى
wahudan
and a guidance
وَرَحْمَةً
waraḥmatan
and mercy
لَّعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūna
remember
And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.

28:44
Ayah 28:44
وَمَا كُنتَ بِجَانِبِ ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ إِذْ قَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَى ٱلْأَمْرَ وَمَا كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كُنتَ
kunta
you were
بِجَانِبِ
bijānibi
on (the) side
ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ
l-gharbiyi
western
إِذْ
idh
when
قَضَيْنَآ
qaḍaynā
We decreed
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
مُوسَى
mūsā
Musa
ٱلْأَمْرَ
l-amra
the Commandment
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كُنتَ
kunta
you were
مِنَ
mina
among
ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
l-shāhidīna
the witnesses
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that].

28:45
Ayah 28:45
وَلَـٰكِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَا قُرُونًا فَتَطَاوَلَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْعُمُرُ ۚ وَمَا كُنتَ ثَاوِيًا فِىٓ أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ تَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا وَلَـٰكِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ
وَلَـٰكِنَّآ
walākinnā
But We
أَنشَأْنَا
anshanā
[We] produced
قُرُونًا
qurūnan
generations
فَتَطَاوَلَ
fataṭāwala
and prolonged
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimu
for them
ٱلْعُمُرُ
l-ʿumuru
the life
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كُنتَ
kunta
you were
ثَاوِيًا
thāwiyan
a dweller
فِىٓ
among
أَهْلِ
ahli
(the) people
مَدْيَنَ
madyana
(of) Madyan
تَتْلُوا۟
tatlū
reciting
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātinā
Our Verses
وَلَـٰكِنَّا
walākinnā
but We
كُنَّا
kunnā
[We] were
مُرْسِلِينَ
mur'silīna
the Senders
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration.1 And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].2

28:46
Ayah 28:46
وَمَا كُنتَ بِجَانِبِ ٱلطُّورِ إِذْ نَادَيْنَا وَلَـٰكِن رَّحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ أَتَىٰهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كُنتَ
kunta
you were
بِجَانِبِ
bijānibi
at (the) side
ٱلطُّورِ
l-ṭūri
(of) the Tur
إِذْ
idh
when
نَادَيْنَا
nādaynā
We called
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin
But
رَّحْمَةً
raḥmatan
(as) a mercy
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
لِتُنذِرَ
litundhira
so that you warn
قَوْمًا
qawman
a people
مَّآ
not
أَتَىٰهُم
atāhum
(had) come to them
مِّن
min
any
نَّذِيرٍ
nadhīrin
warner
مِّن
min
before you
قَبْلِكَ
qablika
before you
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūna
remember
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.

28:47
Ayah 28:47
وَلَوْلَآ أَن تُصِيبَهُم مُّصِيبَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَآ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَـٰتِكَ وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
وَلَوْلَآ
walawlā
And if not
أَن
an
[that]
تُصِيبَهُم
tuṣībahum
struck them
مُّصِيبَةٌۢ
muṣībatun
a disaster
بِمَا
bimā
for what
قَدَّمَتْ
qaddamat
had sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
their hands
فَيَقُولُوا۟
fayaqūlū
and they would say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
لَوْلَآ
lawlā
Why not
أَرْسَلْتَ
arsalta
You sent
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynā
to us
رَسُولًا
rasūlan
a Messenger
فَنَتَّبِعَ
fanattabiʿa
so we (could have) followed
ءَايَـٰتِكَ
āyātika
Your Verses
وَنَكُونَ
wanakūna
and we (would) have been
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
the believers
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...1

28:48
Ayah 28:48
فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُوتِىَ مِثْلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ قَالُوا۟ سِحْرَانِ تَظَـٰهَرَا وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِكُلٍّ كَـٰفِرُونَ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
But when
جَآءَهُمُ
jāahumu
came to them
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
the truth
مِنْ
min
from Us
عِندِنَا
ʿindinā
from Us
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they said
لَوْلَآ
lawlā
Why not
أُوتِىَ
ūtiya
he was given
مِثْلَ
mith'la
(the) like
مَآ
(of) what
أُوتِىَ
ūtiya
was given
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
(to) Musa
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Did not
يَكْفُرُوا۟
yakfurū
they disbelieve
بِمَآ
bimā
in what
أُوتِىَ
ūtiya
was given
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(to) Musa
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
سِحْرَانِ
siḥ'rāni
Two magic (works)
تَظَـٰهَرَا
taẓāharā
supporting each other
وَقَالُوٓا۟
waqālū
And they said
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
بِكُلٍّ
bikullin
in all
كَـٰفِرُونَ
kāfirūna
(are) disbelievers
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other,1 and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers."

28:49
Ayah 28:49
قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبٍ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ أَهْدَىٰ مِنْهُمَآ أَتَّبِعْهُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
قُلْ
qul
Say
فَأْتُوا۟
fatū
Then bring
بِكِتَـٰبٍ
bikitābin
a Book
مِّنْ
min
from Allah
عِندِ
ʿindi
from Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
from Allah
هُوَ
huwa
which
أَهْدَىٰ
ahdā
(is) a better guide
مِنْهُمَآ
min'humā
than both of them
أَتَّبِعْهُ
attabiʿ'hu
that I may follow it
إِن
in
if
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ
ṣādiqīna
truthful
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."

28:50
Ayah 28:50
فَإِن لَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَكَ فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًى مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
فَإِن
fa-in
But if
لَّمْ
lam
not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
yastajībū
they respond
لَكَ
laka
to you
فَٱعْلَمْ
fa-iʿ'lam
then know
أَنَّمَا
annamā
that only
يَتَّبِعُونَ
yattabiʿūna
they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
ahwāahum
their desires
وَمَنْ
waman
And who
أَضَلُّ
aḍallu
(is) more astray
مِمَّنِ
mimmani
than (one) who
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿa
follows
هَوَىٰهُ
hawāhu
his own desire
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
هُدًى
hudan
guidance
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يَهْدِى
yahdī
guide
ٱلْقَوْمَ
l-qawma
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

28:51
Ayah 28:51
۞ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّلْنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْقَوْلَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And indeed
وَصَّلْنَا
waṣṣalnā
We have conveyed
لَهُمُ
lahumu
to them
ٱلْقَوْلَ
l-qawla
the Word
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūna
remember
And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the word [i.e., the Qur’ān] that they might be reminded.

28:52
Ayah 28:52
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِن قَبْلِهِۦ هُم بِهِۦ يُؤْمِنُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ
ātaynāhumu
We gave them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Scripture
مِن
min
before it
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihi
before it
هُم
hum
they
بِهِۦ
bihi
in it
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
believe
Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it - they1 are believers in it.

28:53
Ayah 28:53
وَإِذَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلِهِۦ مُسْلِمِينَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
يُتْلَىٰ
yut'lā
it is recited
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
to them
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
they say
ءَامَنَّا
āmannā
We believe
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
in it
إِنَّهُ
innahu
Indeed, it
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّنَآ
rabbinā
our Lord
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
كُنَّا
kunnā
[we] were
مِن
min
before it
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihi
before it
مُسْلِمِينَ
mus'limīna
Muslims
And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [i.e., submitting to Allāh]."

28:54
Ayah 28:54
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُؤْتَوْنَ أَجْرَهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
يُؤْتَوْنَ
yu'tawna
will be given
أَجْرَهُم
ajrahum
their reward
مَّرَّتَيْنِ
marratayni
twice
بِمَا
bimā
because
صَبَرُوا۟
ṣabarū
they are patient
وَيَدْرَءُونَ
wayadraūna
and they repel
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ
bil-ḥasanati
with good
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ
l-sayi-ata
the evil
وَمِمَّا
wamimmā
and from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ
razaqnāhum
We have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ
yunfiqūna
they spend
Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend.

28:55
Ayah 28:55
وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱللَّغْوَ أَعْرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ لَنَآ أَعْمَـٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا نَبْتَغِى ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
سَمِعُوا۟
samiʿū
they hear
ٱللَّغْوَ
l-laghwa
vain talk
أَعْرَضُوا۟
aʿraḍū
they turn away
عَنْهُ
ʿanhu
from it
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālū
and say
لَنَآ
lanā
For us
أَعْمَـٰلُنَا
aʿmālunā
our deeds
وَلَكُمْ
walakum
and for you
أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ
aʿmālukum
your deeds
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
Peace (be)
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
on you
لَا
not
نَبْتَغِى
nabtaghī
we seek
ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ
l-jāhilīna
the ignorant
And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you;1 we seek not the ignorant."

28:56
Ayah 28:56
إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِى مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
لَا
(can) not
تَهْدِى
tahdī
guide
مَنْ
man
whom
أَحْبَبْتَ
aḥbabta
you love
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
but
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
يَهْدِى
yahdī
guides
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
(is) most knowing
بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
bil-muh'tadīna
(of) the guided ones
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.

28:57
Ayah 28:57
وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِن نَّتَّبِعِ ٱلْهُدَىٰ مَعَكَ نُتَخَطَّفْ مِنْ أَرْضِنَآ ۚ أَوَلَمْ نُمَكِّن لَّهُمْ حَرَمًا ءَامِنًا يُجْبَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِ ثَمَرَٰتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ رِّزْقًا مِّن لَّدُنَّا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
وَقَالُوٓا۟
waqālū
And they say
إِن
in
If
نَّتَّبِعِ
nattabiʿi
we follow
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudā
the guidance
مَعَكَ
maʿaka
with you
نُتَخَطَّفْ
nutakhaṭṭaf
we would be swept
مِنْ
min
from
أَرْضِنَآ
arḍinā
our land
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Have not
نُمَكِّن
numakkin
We established
لَّهُمْ
lahum
for them
حَرَمًا
ḥaraman
a sanctuary
ءَامِنًا
āminan
secure
يُجْبَىٰٓ
yuj'bā
are brought
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to it
ثَمَرَٰتُ
thamarātu
fruits
كُلِّ
kulli
(of) all
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
رِّزْقًا
riz'qan
a provision
مِّن
min
from
لَّدُنَّا
ladunnā
Us
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
But
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahum
most of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
know
And they [i.e., the Quraysh] say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept1 from our land." Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.

28:58
Ayah 28:58
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍۭ بَطِرَتْ مَعِيشَتَهَا ۖ فَتِلْكَ مَسَـٰكِنُهُمْ لَمْ تُسْكَن مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ وَكُنَّا نَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
وَكَمْ
wakam
And how many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknā
We have destroyed
مِن
min
of
قَرْيَةٍۭ
qaryatin
a town
بَطِرَتْ
baṭirat
which exulted
مَعِيشَتَهَا
maʿīshatahā
(in) its means of livelihood
فَتِلْكَ
fatil'ka
And these
مَسَـٰكِنُهُمْ
masākinuhum
(are) their dwellings
لَمْ
lam
not
تُسْكَن
tus'kan
have been inhabited
مِّنۢ
min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihim
after them
إِلَّا
illā
except
قَلِيلًا
qalīlan
a little
وَكُنَّا
wakunnā
And indeed, [We]
نَحْنُ
naḥnu
We
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
l-wārithīna
(are) the inheritors
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly.1 And it is We who were the inheritors.

28:59
Ayah 28:59
وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ مُهْلِكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ يَبْعَثَ فِىٓ أُمِّهَا رَسُولًا يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۚ وَمَا كُنَّا مُهْلِكِى ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ إِلَّا وَأَهْلُهَا ظَـٰلِمُونَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَانَ
kāna
was
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka
your Lord
مُهْلِكَ
muh'lika
(the) one to destroy
ٱلْقُرَىٰ
l-qurā
the towns
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
يَبْعَثَ
yabʿatha
He (had) sent
فِىٓ
in
أُمِّهَا
ummihā
their mother (town)
رَسُولًا
rasūlan
a Messenger
يَتْلُوا۟
yatlū
reciting
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
to them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātinā
Our Verses
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كُنَّا
kunnā
We would be
مُهْلِكِى
muh'likī
(the) one to destroy
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurā
the towns
إِلَّا
illā
except
وَأَهْلُهَا
wa-ahluhā
while their people
ظَـٰلِمُونَ
ẓālimūna
(were) wrongdoers
And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother [i.e., principal city] a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.

28:60
Ayah 28:60
وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَمَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتُهَا ۚ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
وَمَآ
wamā
And whatever
أُوتِيتُم
ūtītum
you have been given
مِّن
min
from
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
فَمَتَـٰعُ
famatāʿu
(is) an enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(of the) life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَزِينَتُهَا
wazīnatuhā
and its adornment
وَمَا
wamā
And what
عِندَ
ʿinda
(is) with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
wa-abqā
and more lasting
أَفَلَا
afalā
So (will) not
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūna
you use intellect
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?

28:61
Ayah 28:61
أَفَمَن وَعَدْنَـٰهُ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا فَهُوَ لَـٰقِيهِ كَمَن مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُ مَتَـٰعَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ هُوَ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ
أَفَمَن
afaman
Then is (he) whom
وَعَدْنَـٰهُ
waʿadnāhu
We have promised him
وَعْدًا
waʿdan
a promise
حَسَنًا
ḥasanan
good
فَهُوَ
fahuwa
and he
لَـٰقِيهِ
lāqīhi
(will) meet it
كَمَن
kaman
like (the one) whom
مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُ
mattaʿnāhu
We provided him
مَتَـٰعَ
matāʿa
enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(of the) life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
هُوَ
huwa
he
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مِنَ
mina
(will be) among
ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ
l-muḥ'ḍarīna
those presented
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [i.e., obtain] like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?

28:62
Ayah 28:62
وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَ
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
And (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhim
He will call them
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūlu
and say
أَيْنَ
ayna
Where
شُرَكَآءِىَ
shurakāiya
(are) My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
whom
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used (to)
تَزْعُمُونَ
tazʿumūna
claim
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"

28:63
Ayah 28:63
قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَوْلُ رَبَّنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلَّذِينَ أَغْوَيْنَآ أَغْوَيْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا غَوَيْنَا ۖ تَبَرَّأْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ۖ مَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِيَّانَا يَعْبُدُونَ
قَالَ
qāla
(Will) say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those
حَقَّ
ḥaqqa
(has) come true
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimu
against whom
ٱلْقَوْلُ
l-qawlu
the Word
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāi
These
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(are) those whom
أَغْوَيْنَآ
aghwaynā
we led astray
أَغْوَيْنَـٰهُمْ
aghwaynāhum
We led them astray
كَمَا
kamā
as
غَوَيْنَا
ghawaynā
we were astray
تَبَرَّأْنَآ
tabarranā
We declare our innocence
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
before You
مَا
Not
كَانُوٓا۟
kānū
they used (to)
إِيَّانَا
iyyānā
worship us
يَعْبُدُونَ
yaʿbudūna
worship us
Those upon whom the word1 will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship [i.e., obey] us."2
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
28:64
Ayah 28:64
وَقِيلَ ٱدْعُوا۟ شُرَكَآءَكُمْ فَدَعَوْهُمْ فَلَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَهُمْ وَرَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ لَوْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ يَهْتَدُونَ
وَقِيلَ
waqīla
And it will be said
ٱدْعُوا۟
id'ʿū
Call
شُرَكَآءَكُمْ
shurakāakum
your partners
فَدَعَوْهُمْ
fadaʿawhum
And they will call them
فَلَمْ
falam
but not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
yastajībū
they will respond
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
وَرَأَوُا۟
wara-awū
and they will see
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
لَوْ
law
If only
أَنَّهُمْ
annahum
[that] they
كَانُوا۟
kānū
had been
يَهْتَدُونَ
yahtadūna
guided
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners,'" and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!

28:65
Ayah 28:65
وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَآ أَجَبْتُمُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
And (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhim
He will call them
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūlu
and say
مَاذَآ
mādhā
What
أَجَبْتُمُ
ajabtumu
did you answer
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"

28:66
Ayah 28:66
فَعَمِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَهُمْ لَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
فَعَمِيَتْ
faʿamiyat
But (will) be obscure
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimu
to them
ٱلْأَنۢبَآءُ
l-anbāu
the information
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that day
فَهُمْ
fahum
so they
لَا
will not ask one another
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
yatasāalūna
will not ask one another
But the information1 will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.

28:67
Ayah 28:67
فَأَمَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا فَعَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُفْلِحِينَ
فَأَمَّا
fa-ammā
But as for
مَن
man
(him) who
تَابَ
tāba
repented
وَءَامَنَ
waāmana
and believed
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamila
and did
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteousness
فَعَسَىٰٓ
faʿasā
then perhaps
أَن
an
[that]
يَكُونَ
yakūna
he will be
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُفْلِحِينَ
l-muf'liḥīna
the successful ones
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is expected [i.e., promised by Allāh] that he will be among the successful.

28:68
Ayah 28:68
وَرَبُّكَ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ وَيَخْتَارُ ۗ مَا كَانَ لَهُمُ ٱلْخِيَرَةُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
وَرَبُّكَ
warabbuka
And your Lord
يَخْلُقُ
yakhluqu
creates
مَا
what
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَيَخْتَارُ
wayakhtāru
and chooses
مَا
Not
كَانَ
kāna
they have
لَهُمُ
lahumu
for them
ٱلْخِيَرَةُ
l-khiyaratu
the choice
سُبْحَـٰنَ
sub'ḥāna
Glory be
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(to) Allah
وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ
wataʿālā
and High is He
عَمَّا
ʿammā
above what
يُشْرِكُونَ
yush'rikūna
they associate (with Him)
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.

28:69
Ayah 28:69
وَرَبُّكَ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُكِنُّ صُدُورُهُمْ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
وَرَبُّكَ
warabbuka
And your Lord
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
knows
مَا
what
تُكِنُّ
tukinnu
conceals
صُدُورُهُمْ
ṣudūruhum
their breasts
وَمَا
wamā
and what
يُعْلِنُونَ
yuʿ'linūna
they declare
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.

28:70
Ayah 28:70
وَهُوَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْحَمْدُ فِى ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَلَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
but
هُوَ
huwa
He
لَهُ
lahu
To Him
ٱلْحَمْدُ
l-ḥamdu
(are due) all praises
فِى
in
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā
the first
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
wal-ākhirati
and the last
وَلَهُ
walahu
And for Him
ٱلْحُكْمُ
l-ḥuk'mu
(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūna
you will be returned
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.

28:71
Ayah 28:71
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ سَرْمَدًا إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مَنْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُم بِضِيَآءٍ ۖ أَفَلَا تَسْمَعُونَ
قُلْ
qul
Say
أَرَءَيْتُمْ
ara-aytum
Have you seen
إِن
in
if
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
Allah made
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah made
عَلَيْكُمُ
ʿalaykumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-layla
the night
سَرْمَدًا
sarmadan
continuous
إِلَىٰ
ilā
till
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مَنْ
man
who
إِلَـٰهٌ
ilāhun
(is the) god
غَيْرُ
ghayru
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
يَأْتِيكُم
yatīkum
who could bring you
بِضِيَآءٍ
biḍiyāin
light
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then will not
تَسْمَعُونَ
tasmaʿūna
you hear
Say, "Have you considered:1 if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"

28:72
Ayah 28:72
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلنَّهَارَ سَرْمَدًا إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مَنْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُم بِلَيْلٍ تَسْكُنُونَ فِيهِ ۖ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ
قُلْ
qul
Say
أَرَءَيْتُمْ
ara-aytum
Have you seen
إِن
in
if
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
Allah made
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah made
عَلَيْكُمُ
ʿalaykumu
for you
ٱلنَّهَارَ
l-nahāra
the day
سَرْمَدًا
sarmadan
continuous
إِلَىٰ
ilā
till
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
مَنْ
man
who
إِلَـٰهٌ
ilāhun
(is the) god
غَيْرُ
ghayru
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
يَأْتِيكُم
yatīkum
who could bring you
بِلَيْلٍ
bilaylin
night
تَسْكُنُونَ
taskunūna
(for) you (to) rest
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then will not
تُبْصِرُونَ
tub'ṣirūna
you see
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?"

28:73
Ayah 28:73
وَمِن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ
وَمِن
wamin
And from
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ
raḥmatihi
His Mercy
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
He made
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-layla
the night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
wal-nahāra
and the day
لِتَسْكُنُوا۟
litaskunū
that you may rest
فِيهِ
fīhi
therein
وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟
walitabtaghū
and that you may seek
مِن
min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ
faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ
walaʿallakum
and so that you may
تَشْكُرُونَ
tashkurūna
be grateful
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.

28:74
Ayah 28:74
وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَ
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
And (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhim
He will call them
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūlu
and say
أَيْنَ
ayna
Where
شُرَكَآءِىَ
shurakāiya
(are) My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
whom
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used (to)
تَزْعُمُونَ
tazʿumūna
claim
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"

28:75
Ayah 28:75
وَنَزَعْنَا مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا فَقُلْنَا هَاتُوا۟ بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ فَعَلِمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلْحَقَّ لِلَّهِ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ
وَنَزَعْنَا
wanazaʿnā
And We will draw forth
مِن
min
from
كُلِّ
kulli
every
أُمَّةٍ
ummatin
nation
شَهِيدًا
shahīdan
a witness
فَقُلْنَا
faqul'nā
and We will say
هَاتُوا۟
hātū
Bring
بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ
bur'hānakum
your proof
فَعَلِمُوٓا۟
faʿalimū
Then they will know
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa
the truth
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(is) for Allah
وَضَلَّ
waḍalla
and (will be) lost
عَنْهُم
ʿanhum
from them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used (to)
يَفْتَرُونَ
yaftarūna
invent
And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allāh, and lost from them is that which they used to invent.

28:76
Ayah 28:76
۞ إِنَّ قَـٰرُونَ كَانَ مِن قَوْمِ مُوسَىٰ فَبَغَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلْكُنُوزِ مَآ إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُۥ لَتَنُوٓأُ بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ أُو۟لِى ٱلْقُوَّةِ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُۥ قَوْمُهُۥ لَا تَفْرَحْ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْفَرِحِينَ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
قَـٰرُونَ
qārūna
Qarun
كَانَ
kāna
was
مِن
min
from
قَوْمِ
qawmi
(the) people
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(of) Musa
فَبَغَىٰ
fabaghā
but he oppressed
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
[on] them
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
waātaynāhu
And We gave him
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْكُنُوزِ
l-kunūzi
the treasures
مَآ
which
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
مَفَاتِحَهُۥ
mafātiḥahu
(the) keys of it
لَتَنُوٓأُ
latanūu
would burden
بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ
bil-ʿuṣ'bati
a company (of men)
أُو۟لِى
ulī
possessors of great strength
ٱلْقُوَّةِ
l-quwati
possessors of great strength
إِذْ
idh
When
قَالَ
qāla
said
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
قَوْمُهُۥ
qawmuhu
his people
لَا
(Do) not
تَفْرَحْ
tafraḥ
exult
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْفَرِحِينَ
l-fariḥīna
the exultant
Indeed, Qārūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allāh does not like the exultant.

28:77
Ayah 28:77
وَٱبْتَغِ فِيمَآ ءَاتَىٰكَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلدَّارَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۖ وَلَا تَنسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَأَحْسِن كَمَآ أَحْسَنَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَلَا تَبْغِ ٱلْفَسَادَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
وَٱبْتَغِ
wa-ib'taghi
But seek
فِيمَآ
fīmā
through what
ءَاتَىٰكَ
ātāka
Allah has given you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has given you
ٱلدَّارَ
l-dāra
the home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
l-ākhirata
(of) the Hereafter
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَنسَ
tansa
forget
نَصِيبَكَ
naṣībaka
your share
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
the world
وَأَحْسِن
wa-aḥsin
And do good
كَمَآ
kamā
as
أَحْسَنَ
aḥsana
Allah has been good
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has been good
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَبْغِ
tabghi
seek
ٱلْفَسَادَ
l-fasāda
corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbu
love
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīna
the corrupters
But seek, through that which Allāh has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allāh has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allāh does not like corrupters."

28:78
Ayah 28:78
قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أُوتِيتُهُۥ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عِندِىٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدْ أَهْلَكَ مِن قَبْلِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مَنْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُ قُوَّةً وَأَكْثَرُ جَمْعًا ۚ وَلَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَن ذُنُوبِهِمُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
إِنَّمَآ
innamā
Only
أُوتِيتُهُۥ
ūtītuhu
I have been given it
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on (account)
عِلْمٍ
ʿil'min
(of) knowledge
عِندِىٓ
ʿindī
I have
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Did not
يَعْلَمْ
yaʿlam
he know
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
قَدْ
qad
indeed
أَهْلَكَ
ahlaka
destroyed
مِن
min
before him
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihi
before him
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūni
the generations
مَنْ
man
who
هُوَ
huwa
[they]
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu
(were) stronger
مِنْهُ
min'hu
than him
قُوَّةً
quwwatan
(in) strength
وَأَكْثَرُ
wa-aktharu
and greater
جَمْعًا
jamʿan
(in) accumulation
وَلَا
walā
And not
يُسْـَٔلُ
yus'alu
will be questioned
عَن
ʿan
about
ذُنُوبِهِمُ
dhunūbihimu
their sins
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
l-muj'rimūna
the criminals
He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.1

28:79
Ayah 28:79
فَخَرَجَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فِى زِينَتِهِۦ ۖ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا يَـٰلَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ قَـٰرُونُ إِنَّهُۥ لَذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ
فَخَرَجَ
fakharaja
So he went forth
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihi
his people
فِى
in
زِينَتِهِۦ
zīnatihi
his adornment
قَالَ
qāla
Said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يُرِيدُونَ
yurīdūna
desire
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
l-ḥayata
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
يَـٰلَيْتَ
yālayta
O! Would that
لَنَا
lanā
for us
مِثْلَ
mith'la
(the) like
مَآ
(of) what
أُوتِىَ
ūtiya
has been given
قَـٰرُونُ
qārūnu
(to) Qarun
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
لَذُو
ladhū
(is the) owner
حَظٍّ
ḥaẓẓin
(of) fortune
عَظِيمٍ
ʿaẓīmin
great
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qārūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."

28:80
Ayah 28:80
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ وَيْلَكُمْ ثَوَابُ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِّمَنْ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا وَلَا يُلَقَّىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
But said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
أُوتُوا۟
ūtū
were given
ٱلْعِلْمَ
l-ʿil'ma
the knowledge
وَيْلَكُمْ
waylakum
Woe to you
ثَوَابُ
thawābu
(The) reward
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is) better
لِّمَنْ
liman
for (he) who
ءَامَنَ
āmana
believes
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamila
and does
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
وَلَا
walā
And not
يُلَقَّىٰهَآ
yulaqqāhā
it is granted
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ
l-ṣābirūna
(to) the patient ones
But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."

28:81
Ayah 28:81
فَخَسَفْنَا بِهِۦ وَبِدَارِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَمَا كَانَ لَهُۥ مِن فِئَةٍ يَنصُرُونَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ
فَخَسَفْنَا
fakhasafnā
Then We caused to swallow up
بِهِۦ
bihi
him
وَبِدَارِهِ
wabidārihi
and his home
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
the earth
فَمَا
famā
Then not
كَانَ
kāna
was
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
مِن
min
any
فِئَةٍ
fi-atin
group
يَنصُرُونَهُۥ
yanṣurūnahu
(to) help him
مِن
min
besides
دُونِ
dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كَانَ
kāna
was
مِنَ
mina
(he) of
ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ
l-muntaṣirīna
those who (could) defend themselves
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves.

28:82
Ayah 28:82
وَأَصْبَحَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَمَنَّوْا۟ مَكَانَهُۥ بِٱلْأَمْسِ يَقُولُونَ وَيْكَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُ ۖ لَوْلَآ أَن مَّنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا لَخَسَفَ بِنَا ۖ وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
وَأَصْبَحَ
wa-aṣbaḥa
And began
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
تَمَنَّوْا۟
tamannaw
(had) wished
مَكَانَهُۥ
makānahu
his position
بِٱلْأَمْسِ
bil-amsi
the day before
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
(to) say
وَيْكَأَنَّ
wayka-anna
Ah! That
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
يَبْسُطُ
yabsuṭu
extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ
l-riz'qa
the provision
لِمَن
liman
for whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِهِۦ
ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَيَقْدِرُ
wayaqdiru
and restricts it
لَوْلَآ
lawlā
If not
أَن
an
that
مَّنَّ
manna
Allah had favored
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah had favored
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā
[to] us
لَخَسَفَ
lakhasafa
He would have caused it to swallow us
بِنَا
binā
He would have caused it to swallow us
وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ
wayka-annahu
Ah! That
لَا
not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥu
will succeed
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allāh extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allāh had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!"

28:83
Ayah 28:83
تِلْكَ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًا ۚ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
تِلْكَ
til'ka
That
ٱلدَّارُ
l-dāru
the Home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ
l-ākhiratu
(of) the Hereafter
نَجْعَلُهَا
najʿaluhā
We assign it
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those who
لَا
(do) not
يُرِيدُونَ
yurīdūna
desire
عُلُوًّا
ʿuluwwan
exaltedness
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَا
walā
and not
فَسَادًا
fasādan
corruption
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ
wal-ʿāqibatu
And the good end
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
lil'muttaqīna
(is) for the righteous
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.

28:84
Ayah 28:84
مَن جَآءَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُۥ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهَا ۖ وَمَن جَآءَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
مَن
man
Whoever
جَآءَ
jāa
comes
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ
bil-ḥasanati
with a good (deed)
فَلَهُۥ
falahu
then for him
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(will be) better
مِّنْهَا
min'hā
than it
وَمَن
waman
and whoever
جَآءَ
jāa
comes
بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ
bil-sayi-ati
with an evil (deed)
فَلَا
falā
then not
يُجْزَى
yuj'zā
will be recompensed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
عَمِلُوا۟
ʿamilū
do
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
l-sayiāti
the evil (deeds)
إِلَّا
illā
except
مَا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used (to)
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūna
do
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.

28:85
Ayah 28:85
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِى فَرَضَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لَرَآدُّكَ إِلَىٰ مَعَادٍ ۚ قُل رَّبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ مَن جَآءَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَمَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
He Who
فَرَضَ
faraḍa
ordained
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
upon you
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
l-qur'āna
the Quran
لَرَآدُّكَ
larādduka
(will) surely take you back
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
مَعَادٍ
maʿādin
a place of return
قُل
qul
Say
رَّبِّىٓ
rabbī
My Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
(is) most knowing
مَن
man
(of him) who
جَآءَ
jāa
comes
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ
bil-hudā
with the guidance
وَمَنْ
waman
and who
هُوَ
huwa
he
فِى
(is) in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
ḍalālin
an error
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
manifest
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return.1 Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."

28:86
Ayah 28:86
وَمَا كُنتَ تَرْجُوٓا۟ أَن يُلْقَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۖ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ ظَهِيرًا لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كُنتَ
kunta
you were
تَرْجُوٓا۟
tarjū
expecting
أَن
an
that
يُلْقَىٰٓ
yul'qā
would be sent down
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ
l-kitābu
the Book
إِلَّا
illā
except
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
(as) a mercy
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
فَلَا
falā
So (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ
takūnanna
be
ظَهِيرًا
ẓahīran
an assistant
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīna
to the disbelievers
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.1

28:87
Ayah 28:87
وَلَا يَصُدُّنَّكَ عَنْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أُنزِلَتْ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
وَلَا
walā
And (let) not
يَصُدُّنَّكَ
yaṣuddunnaka
avert you
عَنْ
ʿan
from
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
بَعْدَ
baʿda
after
إِذْ
idh
[when]
أُنزِلَتْ
unzilat
they have been revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
وَٱدْعُ
wa-ud'ʿu
And invite (people)
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ
takūnanna
be
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
l-mush'rikīna
the polytheists
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.

28:88
Ayah 28:88
وَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۘ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَدْعُ
tadʿu
invoke
مَعَ
maʿa
with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
إِلَـٰهًا
ilāhan
god
ءَاخَرَ
ākhara
other
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
except
هُوَ
huwa
Him
كُلُّ
kullu
Every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
هَالِكٌ
hālikun
(will be) destroyed
إِلَّا
illā
except
وَجْهَهُۥ
wajhahu
His Face
لَهُ
lahu
To Him
ٱلْحُكْمُ
l-ḥuk'mu
(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūna
you will be returned
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face.1 His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.
