31:2
Ayah 31:2
تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
تِلْكَ
til'ka
These
ءَايَـٰتُ
āyātu
(are) Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi
(of) the Book
ٱلْحَكِيمِ
l-ḥakīmi
the Wise
These are verses of the wise1 Book,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
31:3
Ayah 31:3
هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ
هُدًى
hudan
A guidance
وَرَحْمَةً
waraḥmatan
and a mercy
لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ
lil'muḥ'sinīna
for the good-doers
As guidance and mercy for the doers of good

31:4
Ayah 31:4
ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
يُقِيمُونَ
yuqīmūna
establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَيُؤْتُونَ
wayu'tūna
and give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
l-zakata
zakah
وَهُم
wahum
and they
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
bil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter
هُمْ
hum
[they]
يُوقِنُونَ
yūqinūna
believe firmly
Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].

31:5
Ayah 31:5
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
(are) on
هُدًى
hudan
guidance
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
wa-ulāika
and those
هُمُ
humu
[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
l-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful
Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.

31:6
Ayah 31:6
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
وَمِنَ
wamina
And of
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
the mankind
مَن
man
(is he) who
يَشْتَرِى
yashtarī
purchases
لَهْوَ
lahwa
idle tales
ٱلْحَدِيثِ
l-ḥadīthi
idle tales
لِيُضِلَّ
liyuḍilla
to mislead
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) path
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
عِلْمٍ
ʿil'min
knowledge
وَيَتَّخِذَهَا
wayattakhidhahā
and takes it
هُزُوًا
huzuwan
(in) ridicule
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
مُّهِينٌ
muhīnun
humiliating
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech1 to mislead [others] from the way of Allāh without knowledge and who takes it [i.e., His way] in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.

31:7
Ayah 31:7
وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِىٓ أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
تُتْلَىٰ
tut'lā
are recited
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
ءَايَـٰتُنَا
āyātunā
Our Verses
وَلَّىٰ
wallā
he turns away
مُسْتَكْبِرًا
mus'takbiran
arrogantly
كَأَن
ka-an
as if
لَّمْ
lam
not
يَسْمَعْهَا
yasmaʿhā
he (had) heard them
كَأَنَّ
ka-anna
as if
فِىٓ
in
أُذُنَيْهِ
udhunayhi
his ears
وَقْرًا
waqran
(is) deafness
فَبَشِّرْهُ
fabashir'hu
So give him tidings
بِعَذَابٍ
biʿadhābin
of a punishment
أَلِيمٍ
alīmin
painful
And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

31:8
Ayah 31:8
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتُ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātu
(are) Gardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِ
l-naʿīmi
(of) Delight
Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure,

31:9
Ayah 31:9
خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīna
(To) abide forever
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
وَعْدَ
waʿda
(The) Promise of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(The) Promise of Allah
حَقًّا
ḥaqqan
(is) true
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ
l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allāh [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

31:10
Ayah 31:10
خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ وَأَلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ ۚ وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
He created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
عَمَدٍ
ʿamadin
pillars
تَرَوْنَهَا
tarawnahā
that you see
وَأَلْقَىٰ
wa-alqā
and has cast
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
رَوَٰسِىَ
rawāsiya
firm mountains
أَن
an
lest
تَمِيدَ
tamīda
it (might) shake
بِكُمْ
bikum
with you
وَبَثَّ
wabatha
and He dispersed
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
مِن
min
from
كُلِّ
kulli
every
دَآبَّةٍ
dābbatin
creature
وَأَنزَلْنَا
wa-anzalnā
And We sent down
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
مَآءً
māan
water
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا
fa-anbatnā
then We caused to grow
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
مِن
min
of
كُلِّ
kulli
every
زَوْجٍ
zawjin
kind
كَرِيمٍ
karīmin
noble
He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.

31:11
Ayah 31:11
هَـٰذَا خَلْقُ ٱللَّهِ فَأَرُونِى مَاذَا خَلَقَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦ ۚ بَلِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
خَلْقُ
khalqu
(is the) creation
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَأَرُونِى
fa-arūnī
So show Me
مَاذَا
mādhā
what
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
have created
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihi
besides Him
بَلِ
bali
Nay
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
l-ẓālimūna
the wrongdoers
فِى
(are) in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
ḍalālin
error
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
clear
This is the creation of Allāh. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.

31:12
Ayah 31:12
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا لُقْمَـٰنَ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ أَنِ ٱشْكُرْ لِلَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَشْكُرْ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ حَمِيدٌ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
ءَاتَيْنَا
ātaynā
We gave
لُقْمَـٰنَ
luq'māna
Luqman
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ
l-ḥik'mata
the wisdom
أَنِ
ani
that
ٱشْكُرْ
ush'kur
Be grateful
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
to Allah
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يَشْكُرْ
yashkur
(is) grateful
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innamā
then only
يَشْكُرُ
yashkuru
he is grateful
لِنَفْسِهِۦ
linafsihi
for himself
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
كَفَرَ
kafara
(is) ungrateful
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
غَنِىٌّ
ghaniyyun
(is) Free of need
حَمِيدٌ
ḥamīdun
Praiseworthy
And We had certainly given Luqmān wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allāh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.

31:13
Ayah 31:13
وَإِذْ قَالَ لُقْمَـٰنُ لِٱبْنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَـٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قَالَ
qāla
said
لُقْمَـٰنُ
luq'mānu
Luqman
لِٱبْنِهِۦ
li-ib'nihi
to his son
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
يَعِظُهُۥ
yaʿiẓuhu
(was) instructing him
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
yābunayya
O my son
لَا
(Do) not
تُشْرِكْ
tush'rik
associate partners
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
with Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلشِّرْكَ
l-shir'ka
associating partners
لَظُلْمٌ
laẓul'mun
(is) surely an injustice
عَظِيمٌ
ʿaẓīmun
great
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Luqmān said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allāh. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."

31:14
Ayah 31:14
وَوَصَّيْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُۥ وَهْنًا عَلَىٰ وَهْنٍ وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ فِى عَامَيْنِ أَنِ ٱشْكُرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ إِلَىَّ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
وَوَصَّيْنَا
wawaṣṣaynā
And We have enjoined
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
l-insāna
(upon) man
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ
biwālidayhi
for his parents
حَمَلَتْهُ
ḥamalathu
carried him
أُمُّهُۥ
ummuhu
his mother
وَهْنًا
wahnan
(in) weakness
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
وَهْنٍ
wahnin
weakness
وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ
wafiṣāluhu
and his weaning
فِى
(is) in
عَامَيْنِ
ʿāmayni
two years
أَنِ
ani
that
ٱشْكُرْ
ush'kur
Be grateful
لِى
to Me
وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ
waliwālidayka
and to your parents
إِلَىَّ
ilayya
towards Me
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
l-maṣīru
(is) the destination
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.

31:15
Ayah 31:15
وَإِن جَـٰهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُشْرِكَ بِى مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا ۖ وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا ۖ وَٱتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ مَنْ أَنَابَ إِلَىَّ ۚ ثُمَّ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
وَإِن
wa-in
But if
جَـٰهَدَاكَ
jāhadāka
they strive against you
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
أَن
an
that
تُشْرِكَ
tush'rika
you associate partners
بِى
with Me
مَا
what
لَيْسَ
laysa
not
لَكَ
laka
you have
بِهِۦ
bihi
of it
عِلْمٌ
ʿil'mun
any knowledge
فَلَا
falā
then (do) not
تُطِعْهُمَا
tuṭiʿ'humā
obey both of them
وَصَاحِبْهُمَا
waṣāḥib'humā
But accompany them
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
the world
مَعْرُوفًا
maʿrūfan
(with) kindness
وَٱتَّبِعْ
wa-ittabiʿ
and follow
سَبِيلَ
sabīla
(the) path
مَنْ
man
(of him) who
أَنَابَ
anāba
turns
إِلَىَّ
ilayya
to Me
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِلَىَّ
ilayya
towards Me
مَرْجِعُكُمْ
marjiʿukum
(is) your return
فَأُنَبِّئُكُم
fa-unabbi-ukum
then I will inform you
بِمَا
bimā
of what
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used (to)
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūna
do
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge,1 do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

31:16
Ayah 31:16
يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنَّهَآ إِن تَكُ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ فَتَكُن فِى صَخْرَةٍ أَوْ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ أَوْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَأْتِ بِهَا ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٌ
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
yābunayya
O my son
إِنَّهَآ
innahā
Indeed it
إِن
in
if
تَكُ
taku
it be
مِثْقَالَ
mith'qāla
(the) weight
حَبَّةٍ
ḥabbatin
(of) a grain
مِّنْ
min
of
خَرْدَلٍ
khardalin
a mustard seed
فَتَكُن
fatakun
and it be
فِى
in
صَخْرَةٍ
ṣakhratin
a rock
أَوْ
aw
or
فِى
in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
أَوْ
aw
or
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
يَأْتِ
yati
Allah will bring it forth
بِهَا
bihā
Allah will bring it forth
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah will bring it forth
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَطِيفٌ
laṭīfun
(is) All-Subtle
خَبِيرٌ
khabīrun
All-Aware
[And Luqmān said], "O my son, indeed if it [i.e., a wrong] should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allāh will bring it forth. Indeed, Allāh is Subtle1 and Aware.

31:17
Ayah 31:17
يَـٰبُنَىَّ أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأْمُرْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱنْهَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَكَ ۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
yābunayya
O my son
أَقِمِ
aqimi
Establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalata
the prayer
وَأْمُرْ
wamur
and enjoin
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ
bil-maʿrūfi
[with] the right
وَٱنْهَ
wa-in'ha
and forbid
عَنِ
ʿani
from
ٱلْمُنكَرِ
l-munkari
the wrong
وَٱصْبِرْ
wa-iṣ'bir
and be patient
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
مَآ
what
أَصَابَكَ
aṣābaka
befalls you
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
مِنْ
min
(is) of
عَزْمِ
ʿazmi
the matters requiring determination
ٱلْأُمُورِ
l-umūri
the matters requiring determination
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.1

31:18
Ayah 31:18
وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تُصَعِّرْ
tuṣaʿʿir
turn
خَدَّكَ
khaddaka
your cheek
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsi
from men
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَمْشِ
tamshi
walk
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
مَرَحًا
maraḥan
exultantly
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbu
like
كُلَّ
kulla
every
مُخْتَالٍ
mukh'tālin
self-conceited
فَخُورٍ
fakhūrin
boaster
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people1 and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

31:19
Ayah 31:19
وَٱقْصِدْ فِى مَشْيِكَ وَٱغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ ۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ لَصَوْتُ ٱلْحَمِيرِ
وَٱقْصِدْ
wa-iq'ṣid
And be moderate
فِى
in
مَشْيِكَ
mashyika
your pace
وَٱغْضُضْ
wa-ugh'ḍuḍ
and lower
مِن
min
[of]
صَوْتِكَ
ṣawtika
your voice
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
أَنكَرَ
ankara
(the) harshest
ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ
l-aṣwāti
(of all) sounds
لَصَوْتُ
laṣawtu
(is) surely (the) voice
ٱلْحَمِيرِ
l-ḥamīri
(of) the donkeys
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

31:20
Ayah 31:20
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَأَسْبَغَ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعَمَهُۥ ظَـٰهِرَةً وَبَاطِنَةً ۗ وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُجَـٰدِلُ فِى ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَلَا هُدًى وَلَا كِتَـٰبٍ مُّنِيرٍ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَوْا۟
taraw
you see
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
سَخَّرَ
sakhara
has subjected
لَكُم
lakum
to you
مَّا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَأَسْبَغَ
wa-asbagha
and amply bestowed
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
upon you
نِعَمَهُۥ
niʿamahu
His Bounties
ظَـٰهِرَةً
ẓāhiratan
apparent
وَبَاطِنَةً
wabāṭinatan
and hidden
وَمِنَ
wamina
But of
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
the people
مَن
man
(is he) who
يُجَـٰدِلُ
yujādilu
disputes
فِى
about
ٱللَّهِ

بِغَيْرِ

عِلْمٍ
ʿil'min
knowledge
وَلَا
walā
and not
هُدًى
hudan
guidance
وَلَا
walā
and not
كِتَـٰبٍ
kitābin
a book
مُّنِيرٍ
munīrin
enlightening
Do you not see that Allāh has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].

31:21
Ayah 31:21
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُوا۟ بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
قِيلَ
qīla
it is said
لَهُمُ
lahumu
to them
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟
ittabiʿū
Follow
مَآ
what
أَنزَلَ
anzala
Allah (has) revealed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah (has) revealed
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they say
بَلْ
bal
Nay
نَتَّبِعُ
nattabiʿu
we will follow
مَا
what
وَجَدْنَا
wajadnā
we found
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
on it
ءَابَآءَنَآ
ābāanā
our forefathers
أَوَلَوْ
awalaw
Even if
كَانَ
kāna
Shaitaan was
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan was
يَدْعُوهُمْ
yadʿūhum
(to) call them
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
عَذَابِ
ʿadhābi
(the) punishment
ٱلسَّعِيرِ
l-saʿīri
(of) the Blaze
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allāh has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze?

31:22
Ayah 31:22
۞ وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْأُمُورِ
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يُسْلِمْ
yus'lim
submits
وَجْهَهُۥٓ
wajhahu
his face
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
مُحْسِنٌ
muḥ'sinun
(is) a good-doer
فَقَدِ
faqadi
then indeed
ٱسْتَمْسَكَ
is'tamsaka
he has grasped
بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ
bil-ʿur'wati
the handhold
ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ
l-wuth'qā
the most trustworthy
وَإِلَى
wa-ilā
And to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
(is the) end
ٱلْأُمُورِ
l-umūri
(of) the matters
And whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allāh while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allāh will be the outcome of [all] matters.

31:23
Ayah 31:23
وَمَن كَفَرَ فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ كُفْرُهُۥٓ ۚ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
كَفَرَ
kafara
disbelieves
فَلَا
falā
let not
يَحْزُنكَ
yaḥzunka
grieve you
كُفْرُهُۥٓ
kuf'ruhu
his disbelief
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynā
To Us
مَرْجِعُهُمْ
marjiʿuhum
(is) their return
فَنُنَبِّئُهُم
fanunabbi-uhum
then We will inform them
بِمَا
bimā
of what
عَمِلُوٓا۟
ʿamilū
they did
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
عَلِيمٌۢ
ʿalīmun
(is) the All-Knower
بِذَاتِ
bidhāti
of what
ٱلصُّدُورِ
l-ṣudūri
(is in) the breasts
And whoever has disbelieved - let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.

31:24
Ayah 31:24
نُمَتِّعُهُمْ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ نَضْطَرُّهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ
نُمَتِّعُهُمْ
numattiʿuhum
We grant them enjoyment
قَلِيلًا
qalīlan
(for) a little
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
نَضْطَرُّهُمْ
naḍṭarruhum
We will force them
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
عَذَابٍ
ʿadhābin
a punishment
غَلِيظٍ
ghalīẓin
severe
We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment.

31:25
Ayah 31:25
وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۚ قُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
وَلَئِن
wala-in
And if
سَأَلْتَهُم
sa-altahum
you ask them
مَّنْ
man
Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍa
and the earth
لَيَقُولُنَّ
layaqūlunna
They will surely say
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
قُلِ
quli
Say
ٱلْحَمْدُ
l-ḥamdu
All praises
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(are) for Allah
بَلْ
bal
But
أَكْثَرُهُمْ
aktharuhum
most of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
know
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allāh"; but most of them do not know.

31:26
Ayah 31:26
لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
To Allah (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلْغَنِىُّ
l-ghaniyu
(is) Free of need
ٱلْحَمِيدُ
l-ḥamīdu
the Praiseworthy
To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

31:27
Ayah 31:27
وَلَوْ أَنَّمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن شَجَرَةٍ أَقْلَـٰمٌ وَٱلْبَحْرُ يَمُدُّهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ سَبْعَةُ أَبْحُرٍ مَّا نَفِدَتْ كَلِمَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
أَنَّمَا
annamā
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
مِن
min
of
شَجَرَةٍ
shajaratin
(the) trees
أَقْلَـٰمٌ
aqlāmun
(were) pens
وَٱلْبَحْرُ
wal-baḥru
and the sea
يَمُدُّهُۥ
yamudduhu
(to) add to it
مِنۢ
min
after it
بَعْدِهِۦ
baʿdihi
after it
سَبْعَةُ
sabʿatu
seven
أَبْحُرٍ
abḥurin
seas
مَّا
not
نَفِدَتْ
nafidat
would be exhausted
كَلِمَـٰتُ
kalimātu
(the) Words
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
عَزِيزٌ
ʿazīzun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌ
ḥakīmun
All-Wise
And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words1 of Allāh would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

31:28
Ayah 31:28
مَّا خَلْقُكُمْ وَلَا بَعْثُكُمْ إِلَّا كَنَفْسٍ وَٰحِدَةٍ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌ
مَّا
Not
خَلْقُكُمْ
khalqukum
(is) your creation
وَلَا
walā
and not
بَعْثُكُمْ
baʿthukum
your resurrection
إِلَّا
illā
but
كَنَفْسٍ
kanafsin
as a soul
وَٰحِدَةٍ
wāḥidatin
single
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
سَمِيعٌۢ
samīʿun
(is) All-Hearer
بَصِيرٌ
baṣīrun
All-Seer
Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul.1 Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.

31:29
Ayah 31:29
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ يَجْرِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَ
tara
you see
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
يُولِجُ
yūliju
causes to enter
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-layla
the night
فِى
into
ٱلنَّهَارِ
l-nahāri
the day
وَيُولِجُ
wayūliju
and causes to enter
ٱلنَّهَارَ
l-nahāra
the day
فِى
into
ٱلَّيْلِ
al-layli
the night
وَسَخَّرَ
wasakhara
and has subjected
ٱلشَّمْسَ
l-shamsa
the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ
wal-qamara
and the moon
كُلٌّ
kullun
each
يَجْرِىٓ
yajrī
moving
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
for
أَجَلٍ
ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّى
musamman
appointed
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
بِمَا
bimā
of what
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūna
you do
خَبِيرٌ
khabīrun
(is) All-Aware
Do you not see [i.e., know] that Allāh causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allāh, of whatever you do, is Aware?

31:30
Ayah 31:30
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ
bi-anna
(is) because
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
(is) the Truth
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
مَا
what
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūna
they call
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِ
dūnihi
besides Him
ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ
l-bāṭilu
(is) [the] falsehood
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلْعَلِىُّ
l-ʿaliyu
(is) the Most High
ٱلْكَبِيرُ
l-kabīru
the Most Great
That is because Allāh is the True Reality, and that what they call upon1 other than Him is falsehood, and because Allāh is the Most High, the Grand.

31:31
Ayah 31:31
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱلْفُلْكَ تَجْرِى فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِنِعْمَتِ ٱللَّهِ لِيُرِيَكُم مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَ
tara
you see
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱلْفُلْكَ
l-ful'ka
the ships
تَجْرِى
tajrī
sail
فِى
through
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
بِنِعْمَتِ
biniʿ'mati
by (the) Grace
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
لِيُرِيَكُم
liyuriyakum
that He may show you
مِّنْ
min
of
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ
āyātihi
His Signs
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ
laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّكُلِّ
likulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍ
ṣabbārin
(who is) patient
شَكُورٍ
shakūrin
grateful
Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allāh that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

31:32
Ayah 31:32
وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌ كَٱلظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
غَشِيَهُم
ghashiyahum
covers them
مَّوْجٌ
mawjun
a wave
كَٱلظُّلَلِ
kal-ẓulali
like canopies
دَعَوُا۟
daʿawū
they call
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
مُخْلِصِينَ
mukh'liṣīna
(being) sincere
لَهُ
lahu
to Him
ٱلدِّينَ
l-dīna
(in) religion
فَلَمَّا
falammā
But when
نَجَّىٰهُمْ
najjāhum
He delivers them
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْبَرِّ
l-bari
the land
فَمِنْهُم
famin'hum
then among them
مُّقْتَصِدٌ
muq'taṣidun
(some are) moderate
وَمَا
wamā
And not
يَجْحَدُ
yajḥadu
deny
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ
biāyātinā
Our Signs
إِلَّا
illā
except
كُلُّ
kullu
every
خَتَّارٍ
khattārin
traitor
كَفُورٍ
kafūrin
ungrateful
And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion [i.e., faith]. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful.

31:33
Ayah 31:33
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ وَٱخْشَوْا۟ يَوْمًا لَّا يَجْزِى وَالِدٌ عَن وَلَدِهِۦ وَلَا مَوْلُودٌ هُوَ جَازٍ عَن وَالِدِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsu
mankind
ٱتَّقُوا۟
ittaqū
Fear
رَبَّكُمْ
rabbakum
your Lord
وَٱخْشَوْا۟
wa-ikh'shaw
and fear
يَوْمًا
yawman
a Day
لَّا
not
يَجْزِى
yajzī
can avail
وَالِدٌ
wālidun
a father
عَن
ʿan
[for]
وَلَدِهِۦ
waladihi
his son
وَلَا
walā
and not
مَوْلُودٌ
mawlūdun
a son
هُوَ
huwa
he
جَازٍ
jāzin
(can) avail
عَن
ʿan
[for]
وَالِدِهِۦ
wālidihi
his father
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
anything
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
وَعْدَ
waʿda
(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
حَقٌّ
ḥaqqun
(is) True
فَلَا
falā
so let not deceive you
تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ
taghurrannakumu
so let not deceive you
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
l-ḥayatu
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَلَا
walā
and let not deceive you
يَغُرَّنَّكُم
yaghurrannakum
and let not deceive you
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
about Allah
ٱلْغَرُورُ
l-gharūru
the deceiver
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].

31:34
Ayah 31:34
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ ٱلْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِى نَفْسٌ مَّاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِى نَفْسٌۢ بِأَىِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌۢ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
عِندَهُۥ
ʿindahu
with Him
عِلْمُ
ʿil'mu
(is the) knowledge
ٱلسَّاعَةِ
l-sāʿati
(of) the Hour
وَيُنَزِّلُ
wayunazzilu
and He sends down
ٱلْغَيْثَ
l-ghaytha
the rain
وَيَعْلَمُ
wayaʿlamu
and knows
مَا
what
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْحَامِ
l-arḥāmi
the wombs
وَمَا
wamā
And not
تَدْرِى
tadrī
knows
نَفْسٌ
nafsun
any soul
مَّاذَا
mādhā
what
تَكْسِبُ
taksibu
it will earn
غَدًا
ghadan
tomorrow
وَمَا
wamā
and not
تَدْرِى
tadrī
knows
نَفْسٌۢ
nafsun
any soul
بِأَىِّ
bi-ayyi
in what
أَرْضٍ
arḍin
land
تَمُوتُ
tamūtu
it will die
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
خَبِيرٌۢ
khabīrun
All-Aware
Indeed, Allāh [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs.1 And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.
