36:2
Ayah 36:2
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ
wal-qur'āni
By the Quran
ٱلْحَكِيمِ
l-ḥakīmi
the Wise
By the wise1 Qur’ān,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
36:3
Ayah 36:3
إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
لَمِنَ
lamina
(are) among
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
Indeed you, [O Muḥammad], are from among the messengers,

36:4
Ayah 36:4
عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
On
صِرَٰطٍ
ṣirāṭin
a Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
mus'taqīmin
Straight
On a straight path.

36:5
Ayah 36:5
تَنزِيلَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
تَنزِيلَ
tanzīla
A revelation
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi
(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلرَّحِيمِ
l-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful
[This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,

36:6
Ayah 36:6
لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَـٰفِلُونَ
لِتُنذِرَ
litundhira
That you may warn
قَوْمًا
qawman
a people
مَّآ
not
أُنذِرَ
undhira
were warned
ءَابَآؤُهُمْ
ābāuhum
their forefathers
فَهُمْ
fahum
so they
غَـٰفِلُونَ
ghāfilūna
(are) heedless
That you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware.

36:7
Ayah 36:7
لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰٓ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
لَقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
حَقَّ
ḥaqqa
(has) proved true
ٱلْقَوْلُ
l-qawlu
the word
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
upon
أَكْثَرِهِمْ
aktharihim
most of them
فَهُمْ
fahum
so they
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
believe
Already the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe.

36:8
Ayah 36:8
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnā
[We] have placed
فِىٓ
on
أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ
aʿnāqihim
their necks
أَغْلَـٰلًا
aghlālan
iron collars
فَهِىَ
fahiya
and they
إِلَى
ilā
(are up) to
ٱلْأَذْقَانِ
l-adhqāni
the chins
فَهُم
fahum
so they
مُّقْمَحُونَ
muq'maḥūna
(are with) heads raised up
Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft.

36:9
Ayah 36:9
وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnā
And We have made
مِنۢ
min
from
بَيْنِ
bayni
before/between
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
their hands/their front
سَدًّا
saddan
a barrier
وَمِنْ
wamin
and from
خَلْفِهِمْ
khalfihim
behind them
سَدًّا
saddan
a barrier
فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ
fa-aghshaynāhum
and We covered them
فَهُمْ
fahum
so they
لَا
(do) not
يُبْصِرُونَ
yub'ṣirūna
see
And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see.

36:10
Ayah 36:10
وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
وَسَوَآءٌ
wasawāon
And it (is) same
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
to them
ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ
a-andhartahum
whether you warn them
أَمْ
am
or
لَمْ
lam
(do) not
تُنذِرْهُمْ
tundhir'hum
warn them
لَا
not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
they will believe
And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.

36:11
Ayah 36:11
إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَخَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
تُنذِرُ
tundhiru
you (can) warn
مَنِ
mani
(him) who
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿa
follows
ٱلذِّكْرَ
l-dhik'ra
the Reminder
وَخَشِىَ
wakhashiya
and fears
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ
l-raḥmāna
the Most Gracious
بِٱلْغَيْبِ
bil-ghaybi
in the unseen
فَبَشِّرْهُ
fabashir'hu
So give him glad tidings
بِمَغْفِرَةٍ
bimaghfiratin
of forgiveness
وَأَجْرٍ
wa-ajrin
and a reward
كَرِيمٍ
karīmin
noble
You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward.

36:12
Ayah 36:12
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ فِىٓ إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
نَحْنُ
naḥnu
[We]
نُحْىِ
nuḥ'yī
[We] give life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
l-mawtā
(to) the dead
وَنَكْتُبُ
wanaktubu
and We record
مَا
what
قَدَّمُوا۟
qaddamū
they have sent before
وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ
waāthārahum
and their footprints
وَكُلَّ
wakulla
and every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ
aḥṣaynāhu
We have enumerated it
فِىٓ
in
إِمَامٍ
imāmin
a Register
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
clear
Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.

36:13
Ayah 36:13
وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
وَٱضْرِبْ
wa-iḍ'rib
And set forth
لَهُم
lahum
to them
مَّثَلًا
mathalan
an example
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba
(of the) companions
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ
l-qaryati
(of) the city
إِذْ
idh
when
جَآءَهَا
jāahā
came to it
ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
l-mur'salūna
the Messengers
And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -

36:14
Ayah 36:14
إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ
إِذْ
idh
When
أَرْسَلْنَآ
arsalnā
We sent
إِلَيْهِمُ
ilayhimu
to them
ٱثْنَيْنِ
ith'nayni
two (Messengers)
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا
fakadhabūhumā
but they denied both of them
فَعَزَّزْنَا
faʿazzaznā
so We strengthened them
بِثَالِثٍ
bithālithin
with a third
فَقَالُوٓا۟
faqālū
and they said
إِنَّآ
innā
Indeed, We
إِلَيْكُم
ilaykum
to you
مُّرْسَلُونَ
mur'salūna
(are) Messengers
When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened [them] with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."

36:15
Ayah 36:15
قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
مَآ
Not
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
إِلَّا
illā
(are) but
بَشَرٌ
basharun
human beings
مِّثْلُنَا
mith'lunā
like us
وَمَآ
wamā
and not
أَنزَلَ
anzala
has revealed
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
مِن
min
any
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
إِنْ
in
Not
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
إِلَّا
illā
(are) but
تَكْذِبُونَ
takdhibūna
lying
They said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed a thing. You are only telling lies."

36:16
Ayah 36:16
قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
رَبُّنَا
rabbunā
Our Lord
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
knows
إِنَّآ
innā
that we
إِلَيْكُمْ
ilaykum
to you
لَمُرْسَلُونَ
lamur'salūna
(are) surely Messengers
They said, "Our Lord knows that we are messengers to you,

36:17
Ayah 36:17
وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
عَلَيْنَآ
ʿalaynā
(is) on us
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ
l-balāghu
the conveyance
ٱلْمُبِينُ
l-mubīnu
clear
And we are not responsible except for clear notification."

36:18
Ayah 36:18
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
They said
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
تَطَيَّرْنَا
taṭayyarnā
[we] see an evil omen
بِكُمْ
bikum
from you
لَئِن
la-in
If
لَّمْ
lam
not
تَنتَهُوا۟
tantahū
you desist
لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ
lanarjumannakum
surely, we will stone you
وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم
walayamassannakum
and surely will touch you
مِّنَّا
minnā
from us
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
alīmun
painful
They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."

36:19
Ayah 36:19
قَالُوا۟ طَـٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
طَـٰٓئِرُكُم
ṭāirukum
Your evil omen
مَّعَكُمْ
maʿakum
(be) with you
أَئِن
a-in
Is it because
ذُكِّرْتُم
dhukkir'tum
you are admonished
بَلْ
bal
Nay
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
قَوْمٌ
qawmun
(are) a people
مُّسْرِفُونَ
mus'rifūna
transgressing
They said, "Your omen [i.e., fate] is with yourselves. Is it1 because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people."

36:20
Ayah 36:20
وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَجَآءَ
wajāa
And came
مِنْ
min
from
أَقْصَا
aqṣā
(the) farthest end
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnati
(of) the city
رَجُلٌ
rajulun
a man
يَسْعَىٰ
yasʿā
running
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my People
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟
ittabiʿū
Follow
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.

36:21
Ayah 36:21
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرًا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟
ittabiʿū
Follow
مَن
man
(those) who
لَّا
(do) not
يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ
yasalukum
ask (of) you
أَجْرًا
ajran
any payment
وَهُم
wahum
and they
مُّهْتَدُونَ
muh'tadūna
(are) rightly guided
Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided.

36:22
Ayah 36:22
وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
وَمَا
wamā
And what
لِىَ
liya
(is) for me
لَآ
(that) not
أَعْبُدُ
aʿbudu
I worship
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the One Who
فَطَرَنِى
faṭaranī
created me
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Whom
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūna
you will be returned
And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned?

36:23
Ayah 36:23
ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ
ءَأَتَّخِذُ
a-attakhidhu
Should I take
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihi
besides Him
ءَالِهَةً
ālihatan
gods
إِن
in
If
يُرِدْنِ
yurid'ni
intends for me
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
بِضُرٍّ
biḍurrin
any harm
لَّا
not
تُغْنِ
tugh'ni
will avail
عَنِّى
ʿannī
[from] me
شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ
shafāʿatuhum
their intercession
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
(in) anything
وَلَا
walā
and not
يُنقِذُونِ
yunqidhūni
they (can) save me
Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?

36:24
Ayah 36:24
إِنِّىٓ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
إِذًا
idhan
then
لَّفِى
lafī
surely would be in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
ḍalālin
an error
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
clear
Indeed, I would then be in manifest error.

36:25
Ayah 36:25
إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
ءَامَنتُ
āmantu
[I] have believed
بِرَبِّكُمْ
birabbikum
in your Lord
فَٱسْمَعُونِ
fa-is'maʿūni
so listen to me
Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me."

36:26
Ayah 36:26
قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ
قِيلَ
qīla
It was said
ٱدْخُلِ
ud'khuli
Enter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janata
Paradise
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰلَيْتَ
yālayta
I wish
قَوْمِى
qawmī
my people
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
knew
It was said, "Enter Paradise."1 He said, "I wish my people could know

36:27
Ayah 36:27
بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ
بِمَا
bimā
Of how
غَفَرَ
ghafara
has forgiven
لِى
me
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
وَجَعَلَنِى
wajaʿalanī
and placed me
مِنَ
mina
among
ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ
l-muk'ramīna
the honored ones
Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored."

36:28
Ayah 36:28
۞ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ
وَمَآ
wamā
And not
أَنزَلْنَا
anzalnā
We sent down
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihi
his people
مِنۢ
min
after him
بَعْدِهِۦ
baʿdihi
after him
مِن
min
any
جُندٍ
jundin
host
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the heaven
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كُنَّا
kunnā
were We
مُنزِلِينَ
munzilīna
(to) send down
And We did not send down upon his people after him any soldiers from the heaven, nor would We have done so.

36:29
Ayah 36:29
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَـٰمِدُونَ
إِن
in
Not
كَانَتْ
kānat
it was
إِلَّا
illā
but
صَيْحَةً
ṣayḥatan
a shout
وَٰحِدَةً
wāḥidatan
one
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
then behold
هُمْ
hum
They
خَـٰمِدُونَ
khāmidūna
(were) extinguished
It was not but one shout,1 and immediately they were extinguished.

36:30
Ayah 36:30
يَـٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
يَـٰحَسْرَةً
yāḥasratan
Alas
عَلَى
ʿalā
for
ٱلْعِبَادِ
l-ʿibādi
the servants
مَا
Not
يَأْتِيهِم
yatīhim
came to them
مِّن
min
any
رَّسُولٍ
rasūlin
Messenger
إِلَّا
illā
but
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they did
بِهِۦ
bihi
mock at him
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
yastahziūna
mock at him
How regretful for the servants. There did not come to them any messenger except that they used to ridicule him.

36:31
Ayah 36:31
أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
يَرَوْا۟
yaraw
they see
كَمْ
kam
how many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknā
We destroyed
قَبْلَهُم
qablahum
before them
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūni
the generations
أَنَّهُمْ
annahum
That they
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhim
to them
لَا
will not return
يَرْجِعُونَ
yarjiʿūna
will not return
Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them - that they to them1 will not return?

36:32
Ayah 36:32
وَإِن كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ
وَإِن
wa-in
And surely
كُلٌّ
kullun
all
لَّمَّا
lammā
then
جَمِيعٌ
jamīʿun
together
لَّدَيْنَا
ladaynā
before Us
مُحْضَرُونَ
muḥ'ḍarūna
(will be) brought
And indeed, all of them will yet be brought present before Us.

36:33
Ayah 36:33
وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ
وَءَايَةٌ
waāyatun
And a Sign
لَّهُمُ
lahumu
for them
ٱلْأَرْضُ
l-arḍu
(is) the earth
ٱلْمَيْتَةُ
l-maytatu
dead
أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا
aḥyaynāhā
We give it life
وَأَخْرَجْنَا
wa-akhrajnā
and We bring forth
مِنْهَا
min'hā
from it
حَبًّا
ḥabban
grain
فَمِنْهُ
famin'hu
and from it
يَأْكُلُونَ
yakulūna
they eat
And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat.

36:34
Ayah 36:34
وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnā
And We placed
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
جَنَّـٰتٍ
jannātin
gardens
مِّن
min
of
نَّخِيلٍ
nakhīlin
date-palms
وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ
wa-aʿnābin
and grapevines
وَفَجَّرْنَا
wafajjarnā
and We caused to gush forth
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْعُيُونِ
l-ʿuyūni
the springs
And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs -

36:35
Ayah 36:35
لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ
لِيَأْكُلُوا۟
liyakulū
That they may eat
مِن
min
of
ثَمَرِهِۦ
thamarihi
its fruit
وَمَا
wamā
And not
عَمِلَتْهُ
ʿamilathu
made it
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
their hands
أَفَلَا
afalā
So will not
يَشْكُرُونَ
yashkurūna
they be grateful
That they may eat of His fruit.1 And their hands have not produced it,2 so will they not be grateful?

36:36
Ayah 36:36
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
سُبْحَـٰنَ
sub'ḥāna
Glory be
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(to) the One Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
created
ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ
l-azwāja
(in) pairs
كُلَّهَا
kullahā
all
مِمَّا
mimmā
of what
تُنۢبِتُ
tunbitu
grows
ٱلْأَرْضُ
l-arḍu
the earth
وَمِنْ
wamin
and of
أَنفُسِهِمْ
anfusihim
themselves
وَمِمَّا
wamimmā
and of what
لَا
not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
they know
Exalted is He who created all pairs1 - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.

36:37
Ayah 36:37
وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ
وَءَايَةٌ
waāyatun
And a Sign
لَّهُمُ
lahumu
for them
ٱلَّيْلُ
al-laylu
(is) the night
نَسْلَخُ
naslakhu
We withdraw
مِنْهُ
min'hu
from it
ٱلنَّهَارَ
l-nahāra
the day
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
Then behold
هُم
hum
They
مُّظْلِمُونَ
muẓ'limūna
(are) those in darkness
And a sign for them is the night. We remove1 from it the [light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

36:38
Ayah 36:38
وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ
وَٱلشَّمْسُ
wal-shamsu
And the sun
تَجْرِى
tajrī
runs
لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ
limus'taqarrin
to a term appointed
لَّهَا
lahā
for it
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
تَقْدِيرُ
taqdīru
(is the) Decree
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi
(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلْعَلِيمِ
l-ʿalīmi
the All-Knowing
And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

36:39
Ayah 36:39
وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ
وَٱلْقَمَرَ
wal-qamara
And the moon
قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ
qaddarnāhu
We have ordained for it
مَنَازِلَ
manāzila
phases
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
عَادَ
ʿāda
it returns
كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ
kal-ʿur'jūni
like the date stalk
ٱلْقَدِيمِ
l-qadīmi
the old
And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.

36:40
Ayah 36:40
لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ يَنۢبَغِى لَهَآ أَن تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّيْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّ فِى فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ
لَا
Not
ٱلشَّمْسُ
l-shamsu
the sun
يَنۢبَغِى
yanbaghī
is permitted
لَهَآ
lahā
for it
أَن
an
that
تُدْرِكَ
tud'rika
it overtakes
ٱلْقَمَرَ
l-qamara
the moon
وَلَا
walā
and not
ٱلَّيْلُ
al-laylu
the night
سَابِقُ
sābiqu
(can) outstrip
ٱلنَّهَارِ
l-nahāri
the day
وَكُلٌّ
wakullun
but all
فِى
in
فَلَكٍ
falakin
an orbit
يَسْبَحُونَ
yasbaḥūna
they are floating
It is not allowable [i.e., possible] for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.

36:41
Ayah 36:41
وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
وَءَايَةٌ
waāyatun
And a Sign
لَّهُمْ
lahum
for them
أَنَّا
annā
(is) that
حَمَلْنَا
ḥamalnā
We carried
ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ
dhurriyyatahum
their offspring
فِى
in
ٱلْفُلْكِ
l-ful'ki
the ship
ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
l-mashḥūni
laden
And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers1 in a laden ship.

36:42
Ayah 36:42
وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ
وَخَلَقْنَا
wakhalaqnā
And We created
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّن
min
from
مِّثْلِهِۦ
mith'lihi
(the) likes of it
مَا
what
يَرْكَبُونَ
yarkabūna
they ride
And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.

36:43
Ayah 36:43
وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
نَّشَأْ
nasha
We will
نُغْرِقْهُمْ
nugh'riq'hum
We could drown them
فَلَا
falā
then not
صَرِيخَ
ṣarīkha
(would be) a responder to a cry
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
وَلَا
walā
and not
هُمْ
hum
they
يُنقَذُونَ
yunqadhūna
would be saved
And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

36:44
Ayah 36:44
إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
(by) Mercy
مِّنَّا
minnā
from Us
وَمَتَـٰعًا
wamatāʿan
and provision
إِلَىٰ
ilā
for
حِينٍ
ḥīnin
a time
Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.

36:45
Ayah 36:45
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
قِيلَ
qīla
it is said
لَهُمُ
lahumu
to them
ٱتَّقُوا۟
ittaqū
Fear
مَا
what
بَيْنَ
bayna
(is) before you
أَيْدِيكُمْ
aydīkum
(is) before you
وَمَا
wamā
and what
خَلْفَكُمْ
khalfakum
(is) behind you
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakum
so that you may
تُرْحَمُونَ
tur'ḥamūna
receive mercy
But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you;1 perhaps you will receive mercy..."2

36:46
Ayah 36:46
وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
تَأْتِيهِم
tatīhim
comes to them
مِّنْ
min
of
ءَايَةٍ
āyatin
a Sign
مِّنْ
min
from
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Signs
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
(of) their Lord
إِلَّا
illā
but
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they
عَنْهَا
ʿanhā
from it
مُعْرِضِينَ
muʿ'riḍīna
turn away
And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.

36:47
Ayah 36:47
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
قِيلَ
qīla
it is said
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
أَنفِقُوا۟
anfiqū
Spend
مِمَّا
mimmā
from what
رَزَقَكُمُ
razaqakumu
(has) provided you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
قَالَ
qāla
Said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieved
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanū
believed
أَنُطْعِمُ
anuṭ'ʿimu
Should we feed
مَن
man
whom
لَّوْ
law
if
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
Allah willed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah willed
أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ
aṭʿamahu
He would have fed him
إِنْ
in
Not
أَنتُمْ
antum
(are) you
إِلَّا
illā
except
فِى
in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
ḍalālin
an error
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
clear
And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allāh has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allāh had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."

36:48
Ayah 36:48
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūna
And they say
مَتَىٰ
matā
When (is)
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
ٱلْوَعْدُ
l-waʿdu
promise
إِن
in
if
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ
ṣādiqīna
truthful
And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

36:49
Ayah 36:49
مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ
مَا
Not
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
they await
إِلَّا
illā
except
صَيْحَةً
ṣayḥatan
a shout
وَٰحِدَةً
wāḥidatan
one
تَأْخُذُهُمْ
takhudhuhum
it will seize them
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
يَخِصِّمُونَ
yakhiṣṣimūna
are disputing
They do not await except one blast1 which will seize them while they are disputing.

36:50
Ayah 36:50
فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
فَلَا
falā
Then not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
yastaṭīʿūna
they will be able
تَوْصِيَةً
tawṣiyatan
(to) make a will
وَلَآ
walā
and not
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أَهْلِهِمْ
ahlihim
their people
يَرْجِعُونَ
yarjiʿūna
they (can) return
And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.

36:51
Ayah 36:51
وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ
وَنُفِخَ
wanufikha
And will be blown
فِى
[in]
ٱلصُّورِ
l-ṣūri
the trumpet
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
and behold
هُم
hum
They
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ
l-ajdāthi
the graves
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
يَنسِلُونَ
yansilūna
[they] will hasten
And the Horn will be blown;1 and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.

36:52
Ayah 36:52
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They [will] say
يَـٰوَيْلَنَا
yāwaylanā
O woe to us
مَنۢ
man
Who
بَعَثَنَا
baʿathanā
has raised us
مِن
min
from
مَّرْقَدِنَا
marqadinā
our sleeping place
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This (is)
مَا
What
وَعَدَ
waʿada
(had) promised
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānu
the Most Gracious
وَصَدَقَ
waṣadaqa
and told (the) truth
ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
l-mur'salūna
the Messengers
They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."

36:53
Ayah 36:53
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ
إِن
in
Not
كَانَتْ
kānat
it will be
إِلَّا
illā
but
صَيْحَةً
ṣayḥatan
a shout
وَٰحِدَةً
wāḥidatan
single
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
so behold
هُمْ
hum
They
جَمِيعٌ
jamīʿun
all
لَّدَيْنَا
ladaynā
before Us
مُحْضَرُونَ
muḥ'ḍarūna
(will be) brought
It will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.

36:54
Ayah 36:54
فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
فَٱلْيَوْمَ
fal-yawma
So this Day
لَا
not
تُظْلَمُ
tuẓ'lamu
will be wronged
نَفْسٌ
nafsun
a soul
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
(in) anything
وَلَا
walā
and not
تُجْزَوْنَ
tuj'zawna
you will be recompensed
إِلَّا
illā
except
مَا
(for) what
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used (to)
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūna
do
So today [i.e., the Day of Judgement] no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do.

36:55
Ayah 36:55
إِنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍ فَـٰكِهُونَ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba
(the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati
(of) Paradise
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
this Day
فِى
[in]
شُغُلٍ
shughulin
will be occupied
فَـٰكِهُونَ
fākihūna
(in) amusement
Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation -

36:56
Ayah 36:56
هُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ مُتَّكِـُٔونَ
هُمْ
hum
They
وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ
wa-azwājuhum
and their spouses
فِى
in
ظِلَـٰلٍ
ẓilālin
shades
عَلَى
ʿalā
on
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ
l-arāiki
[the] couches
مُتَّكِـُٔونَ
muttakiūna
reclining
They and their spouses - in shade, reclining on adorned couches.

36:57
Ayah 36:57
لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ
لَهُمْ
lahum
For them
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
فَـٰكِهَةٌ
fākihatun
(are) fruits
وَلَهُم
walahum
and for them
مَّا
(is) whatever
يَدَّعُونَ
yaddaʿūna
they call for
For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]

36:58
Ayah 36:58
سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْلًا مِّن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
Peace
قَوْلًا
qawlan
A word
مِّن
min
from
رَّبٍّ
rabbin
a Lord
رَّحِيمٍ
raḥīmin
Most Merciful
[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.

36:59
Ayah 36:59
وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟
wa-im'tāzū
But stand apart
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
أَيُّهَا
ayyuhā
O criminals
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
l-muj'rimūna
O criminals
[Then He will say], "But stand apart today, you criminals.1

36:60
Ayah 36:60
۞ أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ
أَلَمْ
alam
Did not
أَعْهَدْ
aʿhad
I enjoin
إِلَيْكُمْ
ilaykum
upon you
يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanī
O Children of Adam
ءَادَمَ
ādama
O Children of Adam
أَن
an
That
لَّا
(do) not
تَعْبُدُوا۟
taʿbudū
worship
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ
l-shayṭāna
the Shaitaan
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
indeed, he
لَكُمْ
lakum
(is) for you
عَدُوٌّ
ʿaduwwun
an enemy
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
36:61
Ayah 36:61
وَأَنِ ٱعْبُدُونِى ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ
وَأَنِ
wa-ani
And that
ٱعْبُدُونِى
uʿ'budūnī
you worship Me
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
صِرَٰطٌ
ṣirāṭun
(is) a Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٌ
mus'taqīmun
Straight
And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.

36:62
Ayah 36:62
وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيرًا ۖ أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْقِلُونَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And indeed
أَضَلَّ
aḍalla
he led astray
مِنكُمْ
minkum
from you
جِبِلًّا
jibillan
a multitude
كَثِيرًا
kathīran
great
أَفَلَمْ
afalam
Then did not
تَكُونُوا۟
takūnū
you
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūna
use reason
And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?

36:63
Ayah 36:63
هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ
هَـٰذِهِۦ
hādhihi
This (is)
جَهَنَّمُ
jahannamu
(the) Hell
ٱلَّتِى
allatī
which
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you were
تُوعَدُونَ
tūʿadūna
promised
This is the Hellfire which you were promised.

36:64
Ayah 36:64
ٱصْلَوْهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ
ٱصْلَوْهَا
iṣ'lawhā
Burn therein
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
بِمَا
bimā
because
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used to
تَكْفُرُونَ
takfurūna
disbelieve
[Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny."1

36:65
Ayah 36:65
ٱلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
ٱلْيَوْمَ
al-yawma
This Day
نَخْتِمُ
nakhtimu
We will seal
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
[on]
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ
afwāhihim
their mouths
وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ
watukallimunā
and will speak to Us
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
their hands
وَتَشْهَدُ
watashhadu
and will bear witness
أَرْجُلُهُم
arjuluhum
their feet
بِمَا
bimā
about what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used to
يَكْسِبُونَ
yaksibūna
earn
That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.

36:66
Ayah 36:66
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
نَشَآءُ
nashāu
We willed
لَطَمَسْنَا
laṭamasnā
We (would have) surely obliterated
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
[over]
أَعْيُنِهِمْ
aʿyunihim
their eyes
فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟
fa-is'tabaqū
then they (would) race
ٱلصِّرَٰطَ
l-ṣirāṭa
(to find) the path
فَأَنَّىٰ
fa-annā
then how
يُبْصِرُونَ
yub'ṣirūna
(could) they see
And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?1

36:67
Ayah 36:67
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
نَشَآءُ
nashāu
We willed
لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ
lamasakhnāhum
surely, We (would have) transformed them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
in
مَكَانَتِهِمْ
makānatihim
their places
فَمَا
famā
then not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟
is'taṭāʿū
they would have been able
مُضِيًّا
muḍiyyan
to proceed
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَرْجِعُونَ
yarjiʿūna
return
And if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.1

36:68
Ayah 36:68
وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ ۖ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ
وَمَن
waman
And (he) whom
نُّعَمِّرْهُ
nuʿammir'hu
We grant him long life
نُنَكِّسْهُ
nunakkis'hu
We reverse him
فِى
in
ٱلْخَلْقِ
l-khalqi
the creation
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then will not
يَعْقِلُونَ
yaʿqilūna
they use intellect
And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation;1 so will they not understand?

36:69
Ayah 36:69
وَمَا عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْءَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ
ʿallamnāhu
We taught him
ٱلشِّعْرَ
l-shiʿ'ra
[the] poetry
وَمَا
wamā
and not
يَنۢبَغِى
yanbaghī
it is befitting
لَهُۥٓ
lahu
for him
إِنْ
in
Not
هُوَ
huwa
it
إِلَّا
illā
(is) except
ذِكْرٌ
dhik'run
a Reminder
وَقُرْءَانٌ
waqur'ānun
and a Quran
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
And We did not give him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur’ān

36:70
Ayah 36:70
لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
لِّيُنذِرَ
liyundhira
To warn
مَن
man
(him) who
كَانَ
kāna
is
حَيًّا
ḥayyan
alive
وَيَحِقَّ
wayaḥiqqa
and may be proved true
ٱلْقَوْلُ
l-qawlu
the Word
عَلَى
ʿalā
against
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
To warn whoever is alive1 and justify the word [i.e., decree] against the disbelievers.

36:71
Ayah 36:71
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَآ أَنْعَـٰمًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Do not
يَرَوْا۟
yaraw
they see
أَنَّا
annā
that We
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnā
[We] created
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّمَّا
mimmā
from what
عَمِلَتْ
ʿamilat
have made
أَيْدِينَآ
aydīnā
Our hands
أَنْعَـٰمًا
anʿāman
cattle
فَهُمْ
fahum
then they
لَهَا
lahā
[for them]
مَـٰلِكُونَ
mālikūna
(are the) owners
Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands1 have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners?

36:72
Ayah 36:72
وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ
وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا
wadhallalnāhā
And We have tamed them
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
فَمِنْهَا
famin'hā
so some of them
رَكُوبُهُمْ
rakūbuhum
they ride them
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hā
and some of them
يَأْكُلُونَ
yakulūna
they eat
And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat.

36:73
Ayah 36:73
وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ
وَلَهُمْ
walahum
And for them
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
مَنَـٰفِعُ
manāfiʿu
(are) benefits
وَمَشَارِبُ
wamashāribu
and drinks
أَفَلَا
afalā
so (will) not
يَشْكُرُونَ
yashkurūna
they give thanks
And for them therein are [other] benefits and drinks, so will they not be grateful?

36:74
Ayah 36:74
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟
wa-ittakhadhū
But they have taken
مِن
min
besides
دُونِ
dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
ءَالِهَةً
ālihatan
gods
لَّعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahum
that they may
يُنصَرُونَ
yunṣarūna
be helped
But they have taken besides Allāh [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped.

36:75
Ayah 36:75
لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُّحْضَرُونَ
لَا
Not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
yastaṭīʿūna
they are able
نَصْرَهُمْ
naṣrahum
to help them
وَهُمْ
wahum
but they
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
جُندٌ
jundun
(are) hosts
مُّحْضَرُونَ
muḥ'ḍarūna
(who will) be brought
They are not able to help them, and they [themselves] are for them soldiers in attendance.1

36:76
Ayah 36:76
فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
فَلَا
falā
So (let) not
يَحْزُنكَ
yaḥzunka
grieve you
قَوْلُهُمْ
qawluhum
their speech
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
نَعْلَمُ
naʿlamu
[We] know
مَا
what
يُسِرُّونَ
yusirrūna
they conceal
وَمَا
wamā
and what
يُعْلِنُونَ
yuʿ'linūna
they declare
So let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare.

36:77
Ayah 36:77
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Does not
يَرَ
yara
see
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
[the] man
أَنَّا
annā
that We
خَلَقْنَـٰهُ
khalaqnāhu
[We] created him
مِن
min
from
نُّطْفَةٍ
nuṭ'fatin
a semen-drop
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
Then behold
هُوَ
huwa
He
خَصِيمٌ
khaṣīmun
(is) an opponent
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once1 he is a clear adversary?

36:78
Ayah 36:78
وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌ
وَضَرَبَ
waḍaraba
And he sets forth
لَنَا
lanā
for Us
مَثَلًا
mathalan
an example
وَنَسِىَ
wanasiya
and forgets
خَلْقَهُۥ
khalqahu
his (own) creation
قَالَ
qāla
He says
مَن
man
Who
يُحْىِ
yuḥ'yī
will give life
ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ
l-ʿiẓāma
(to) the bones
وَهِىَ
wahiya
while they
رَمِيمٌ
ramīmun
(are) decomposed
And he presents for Us an example1 and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"

36:79
Ayah 36:79
قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَهَآ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ
قُلْ
qul
Say
يُحْيِيهَا
yuḥ'yīhā
He will give them life
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī
Who
أَنشَأَهَآ
ansha-ahā
produced them
أَوَّلَ
awwala
(the) first
مَرَّةٍ
marratin
time
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and He
بِكُلِّ
bikulli
(is) of every
خَلْقٍ
khalqin
creation
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmun
All-Knower
Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing."

36:80
Ayah 36:80
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْأَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَإِذَآ أَنتُم مِّنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
The One Who
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
made
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلشَّجَرِ
l-shajari
the tree
ٱلْأَخْضَرِ
l-akhḍari
[the] green
نَارًا
nāran
fire
فَإِذَآ
fa-idhā
and behold
أَنتُم
antum
You
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
from it
تُوقِدُونَ
tūqidūna
ignite
[It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite.

36:81
Ayah 36:81
أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
أَوَلَيْسَ
awalaysa
Is it not
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(He) Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍa
and the earth
بِقَـٰدِرٍ
biqādirin
Able
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
to
أَن
an
[that]
يَخْلُقَ
yakhluqa
create
مِثْلَهُم
mith'lahum
(the) like of them
بَلَىٰ
balā
Yes, indeed
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and He
ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ
l-khalāqu
(is) the Supreme Creator
ٱلْعَلِيمُ
l-ʿalīmu
the All-Knower
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.

36:82
Ayah 36:82
إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
إِنَّمَآ
innamā
Only
أَمْرُهُۥٓ
amruhu
His Command
إِذَآ
idhā
when
أَرَادَ
arāda
He intends
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
a thing
أَن
an
that
يَقُولَ
yaqūla
He says
لَهُۥ
lahu
to it
كُن
kun
Be
فَيَكُونُ
fayakūnu
and it is
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.

36:83
Ayah 36:83
فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
فَسُبْحَـٰنَ
fasub'ḥāna
So glory be
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(to) the One who
بِيَدِهِۦ
biyadihi
in Whose hand
مَلَكُوتُ
malakūtu
is (the) dominion
كُلِّ
kulli
(of) all
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūna
you will be returned
So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned.
