37:1
Ayah 37:1
وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّا
وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ
wal-ṣāfāti
By those lined
صَفًّا
ṣaffan
(in) rows
By those [angels] lined up in rows
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:2
Ayah 37:2
فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًا
فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ
fal-zājirāti
And those who drive
زَجْرًا
zajran
strongly
And those who drive [the clouds]
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:3
Ayah 37:3
فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا
فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ
fal-tāliyāti
And those who recite
ذِكْرًا
dhik'ran
(the) Message
And those who recite the message,1
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:4
Ayah 37:4
إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
إِلَـٰهَكُمْ
ilāhakum
your Lord
لَوَٰحِدٌ
lawāḥidun
(is) surely One
Indeed, your God is One,

37:5
Ayah 37:5
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ
رَّبُّ
rabbu
Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and what
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā
(is) between both of them
وَرَبُّ
warabbu
and Lord
ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ
l-mashāriqi
(of) each point of sunrise
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.1

37:6
Ayah 37:6
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
زَيَّنَّا
zayyannā
[We] adorned
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
l-samāa
the sky
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
[the world]
بِزِينَةٍ
bizīnatin
with an adornment
ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ
l-kawākibi
(of) the stars
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars

37:7
Ayah 37:7
وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍ
وَحِفْظًا
waḥif'ẓan
And (to) guard
مِّن
min
against
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَيْطَـٰنٍ
shayṭānin
devil
مَّارِدٍ
māridin
rebellious
And as protection against every rebellious devil

37:8
Ayah 37:8
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ
لَّا
lā
Not
يَسَّمَّعُونَ
yassammaʿūna
they may listen
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْمَلَإِ
l-mala-i
the assembly
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
l-aʿlā
[the] exalted
وَيُقْذَفُونَ
wayuq'dhafūna
are pelted
مِن
min
from
كُلِّ
kulli
every
جَانِبٍ
jānibin
side
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,1

37:9
Ayah 37:9
دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ
دُحُورًا
duḥūran
Repelled
وَلَهُمْ
walahum
and for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
وَاصِبٌ
wāṣibun
perpetual
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,

37:10
Ayah 37:10
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
مَنْ
man
(him) who
خَطِفَ
khaṭifa
snatches
ٱلْخَطْفَةَ
l-khaṭfata
(by) theft
فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ
fa-atbaʿahu
but follows him
شِهَابٌ
shihābun
a burning flame
ثَاقِبٌ
thāqibun
piercing
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].

37:11
Ayah 37:11
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭ
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ
fa-is'taftihim
Then ask them
أَهُمْ
ahum
Are they
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu
a stronger
خَلْقًا
khalqan
creation
أَم
am
or
مَّنْ
man
(those) whom
خَلَقْنَآ
khalaqnā
We have created
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
خَلَقْنَـٰهُم
khalaqnāhum
created them
مِّن
min
from
طِينٍ
ṭīnin
a clay
لَّازِبٍۭ
lāzibin
sticky
Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.

37:12
Ayah 37:12
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ
بَلْ
bal
Nay
عَجِبْتَ
ʿajib'ta
you wonder
وَيَسْخَرُونَ
wayaskharūna
while they mock
But you wonder, while they mock,

37:13
Ayah 37:13
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
ذُكِّرُوا۟
dhukkirū
they are reminded
لَا
lā
not
يَذْكُرُونَ
yadhkurūna
they receive admonition
And when they are reminded, they remember not.

37:14
Ayah 37:14
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
رَأَوْا۟
ra-aw
they see
ءَايَةً
āyatan
a Sign
يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ
yastaskhirūna
they mock
And when they see a sign, they ridicule.

37:15
Ayah 37:15
وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ
وَقَالُوٓا۟
waqālū
And they say
إِنْ
in
Not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا
illā
except
سِحْرٌ
siḥ'run
a magic
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
And say, "This is not but obvious magic.

37:16
Ayah 37:16
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
أَءِذَا
a-idhā
Is it when
مِتْنَا
mit'nā
we are dead
وَكُنَّا
wakunnā
and have become
تُرَابًا
turāban
dust
وَعِظَـٰمًا
waʿiẓāman
and bones
أَءِنَّا
a-innā
shall we then
لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
lamabʿūthūna
be certainly resurrected
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

37:17
Ayah 37:17
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا
awaābāunā
Or our fathers
ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
l-awalūna
former
And our forefathers [as well]?"
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:18
Ayah 37:18
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ
قُلْ
qul
Say
نَعَمْ
naʿam
Yes
وَأَنتُمْ
wa-antum
and you
دَٰخِرُونَ
dākhirūna
(will be) humiliated
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."

37:19
Ayah 37:19
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innamā
Then only
هِىَ
hiya
it
زَجْرَةٌ
zajratun
(will be) a cry
وَٰحِدَةٌ
wāḥidatun
single
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
then, behold
هُمْ
hum
They
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
will see
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.

37:20
Ayah 37:20
وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālū
And they will say
يَـٰوَيْلَنَا
yāwaylanā
O woe to us
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
يَوْمُ
yawmu
(is the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīni
(of) the Recompense
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."

37:21
Ayah 37:21
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
يَوْمُ
yawmu
(is the) Day
ٱلْفَصْلِ
l-faṣli
(of) Judgment
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
which
كُنتُم
kuntum
you used to
بِهِۦ
bihi
[of it]
تُكَذِّبُونَ
tukadhibūna
deny
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."

37:22
Ayah 37:22
۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ
ٱحْشُرُوا۟
uḥ'shurū
Gather
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ظَلَمُوا۟
ẓalamū
wronged
وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ
wa-azwājahum
and their kinds
وَمَا
wamā
and what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used (to)
يَعْبُدُونَ
yaʿbudūna
worship
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds,1 and what they used to worship

37:23
Ayah 37:23
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
مِن
min
Besides
دُونِ
dūni
Besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
فَٱهْدُوهُمْ
fa-ih'dūhum
then lead them
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
صِرَٰطِ
ṣirāṭi
(the) Path
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
Other than Allāh, and guide them to the path of Hellfire

37:24
Ayah 37:24
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ
وَقِفُوهُمْ
waqifūhum
And stop them
إِنَّهُم
innahum
indeed, they
مَّسْـُٔولُونَ
masūlūna
(are) to be questioned
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."

37:25
Ayah 37:25
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ
مَا
mā
What
لَكُمْ
lakum
(is) for you
لَا
lā
(Why) not
تَنَاصَرُونَ
tanāṣarūna
you help one another
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"

37:26
Ayah 37:26
بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ
بَلْ
bal
Nay
هُمُ
humu
they
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
(on) that Day
مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ
mus'taslimūna
(will) surrender
But they, that Day, are in surrender.

37:27
Ayah 37:27
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
وَأَقْبَلَ
wa-aqbala
And will approach
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍin
others
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
yatasāalūna
questioning one another
And they will approach one another asking [i.e., blaming] each other.

37:28
Ayah 37:28
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
They will say
إِنَّكُمْ
innakum
Indeed, you
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
[you] used (to)
تَأْتُونَنَا
tatūnanā
come (to) us
عَنِ
ʿani
from
ٱلْيَمِينِ
l-yamīni
the right
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."1

37:29
Ayah 37:29
قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They will say
بَل
bal
Nay
لَّمْ
lam
not
تَكُونُوا۟
takūnū
you were
مُؤْمِنِينَ
mu'minīna
believers
They [i.e., the oppressors] will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,

37:30
Ayah 37:30
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَانَ
kāna
was
لَنَا
lanā
for us
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykum
over you
مِّن
min
any
سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ
sul'ṭānin
authority
بَلْ
bal
Nay
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you were
قَوْمًا
qawman
a people
طَـٰغِينَ
ṭāghīna
transgressing
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.

37:31
Ayah 37:31
فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ
فَحَقَّ
faḥaqqa
So has been proved true
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā
against us
قَوْلُ
qawlu
(the) Word
رَبِّنَآ
rabbinā
(of) our Lord
إِنَّا
innā
indeed, we
لَذَآئِقُونَ
ladhāiqūna
(will) certainly taste
So the word [i.e., decree] of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].

37:32
Ayah 37:32
فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ
فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ
fa-aghwaynākum
So we led you astray
إِنَّا
innā
indeed, we
كُنَّا
kunnā
were
غَـٰوِينَ
ghāwīna
astray
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."

37:33
Ayah 37:33
فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ
فَإِنَّهُمْ
fa-innahum
Then indeed, they
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
فِى
fī
in
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
مُشْتَرِكُونَ
mush'tarikūna
(will be) sharers
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.

37:34
Ayah 37:34
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
thus
نَفْعَلُ
nafʿalu
We deal
بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
bil-muj'rimīna
with the criminals
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.

37:35
Ayah 37:35
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they
كَانُوٓا۟
kānū
were
إِذَا
idhā
when
قِيلَ
qīla
it was said
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
لَآ
lā
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
yastakbirūna
were arrogant
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allāh," were arrogant

37:36
Ayah 37:36
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭ
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūna
And they say
أَئِنَّا
a-innā
Are we
لَتَارِكُوٓا۟
latārikū
to leave
ءَالِهَتِنَا
ālihatinā
our gods
لِشَاعِرٍ
lishāʿirin
for a poet
مَّجْنُونٍۭ
majnūnin
mad
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"

37:37
Ayah 37:37
بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
بَلْ
bal
Nay
جَآءَ
jāa
he has brought
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
the truth
وَصَدَّقَ
waṣaddaqa
and confirmed
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
Rather, he [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.

37:38
Ayah 37:38
إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ
إِنَّكُمْ
innakum
Indeed, you
لَذَآئِقُوا۟
ladhāiqū
(will) surely taste
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
ٱلْأَلِيمِ
l-alīmi
painful
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,

37:39
Ayah 37:39
وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
تُجْزَوْنَ
tuj'zawna
you will be recompensed
إِلَّا
illā
except
مَا
mā
what
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used to
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūna
do
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -

37:40
Ayah 37:40
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
عِبَادَ
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.

37:41
Ayah 37:41
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
رِزْقٌ
riz'qun
(will be) a provision
مَّعْلُومٌ
maʿlūmun
determined
Those will have a provision determined -
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:42
Ayah 37:42
فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ
فَوَٰكِهُ
fawākihu
Fruits
وَهُم
wahum
and they
مُّكْرَمُونَ
muk'ramūna
(will) be honored
Fruits;1 and they will be honored

37:43
Ayah 37:43
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
فِى
fī
In
جَنَّـٰتِ
jannāti
Gardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِ
l-naʿīmi
(of) Delight
In gardens of pleasure
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:44
Ayah 37:44
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
On
سُرُرٍ
sururin
thrones
مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
mutaqābilīna
facing each other
On thrones facing one another.

37:45
Ayah 37:45
يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ
يُطَافُ
yuṭāfu
Will be circulated
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
among them
بِكَأْسٍ
bikasin
a cup
مِّن
min
from
مَّعِينٍۭ
maʿīnin
a flowing spring
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,

37:46
Ayah 37:46
بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ
بَيْضَآءَ
bayḍāa
White
لَذَّةٍ
ladhatin
delicious
لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ
lilshāribīna
for the drinkers
White and delicious to the drinkers;
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:47
Ayah 37:47
لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ
لَا
lā
Not
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
غَوْلٌ
ghawlun
(is) bad effect
وَلَا
walā
and not
هُمْ
hum
they
عَنْهَا
ʿanhā
from it
يُنزَفُونَ
yunzafūna
will be intoxicated
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.

37:48
Ayah 37:48
وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌ
وَعِندَهُمْ
waʿindahum
And with them
قَـٰصِرَٰتُ
qāṣirātu
(will be) companions of modest gaze
ٱلطَّرْفِ
l-ṭarfi
(will be) companions of modest gaze
عِينٌ
ʿīnun
(having) beautiful eyes
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances,1 with large, [beautiful] eyes,

37:49
Ayah 37:49
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ
كَأَنَّهُنَّ
ka-annahunna
As if they were
بَيْضٌ
bayḍun
eggs
مَّكْنُونٌ
maknūnun
well protected
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.

37:50
Ayah 37:50
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
فَأَقْبَلَ
fa-aqbala
And (will) approach
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍin
others
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
yatasāalūna
questioning one another
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

37:51
Ayah 37:51
قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ
قَالَ
qāla
Will say
قَآئِلٌ
qāilun
a speaker
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
among them
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
كَانَ
kāna
had
لِى
lī
for me
قَرِينٌ
qarīnun
a companion
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].

37:52
Ayah 37:52
يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ
يَقُولُ
yaqūlu
Who (would) say
أَءِنَّكَ
a-innaka
Are you indeed
لَمِنَ
lamina
surely of
ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ
l-muṣadiqīna
those who believe
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe

37:53
Ayah 37:53
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ
أَءِذَا
a-idhā
Is (it) when
مِتْنَا
mit'nā
we have died
وَكُنَّا
wakunnā
and become
تُرَابًا
turāban
dust
وَعِظَـٰمًا
waʿiẓāman
and bones
أَءِنَّا
a-innā
will we
لَمَدِينُونَ
lamadīnūna
surely be brought to Judgment
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"

37:54
Ayah 37:54
قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ
قَالَ
qāla
He (will) say
هَلْ
hal
Will
أَنتُم
antum
you
مُّطَّلِعُونَ
muṭṭaliʿūna
be looking
He will say,1 "Would you [care to] look?"

37:55
Ayah 37:55
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
فَٱطَّلَعَ
fa-iṭṭalaʿa
Then he (will) look
فَرَءَاهُ
faraāhu
and see him
فِى
fī
in
سَوَآءِ
sawāi
(the) midst
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
And he will look and see him1 in the midst of the Hellfire.

37:56
Ayah 37:56
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ
قَالَ
qāla
He (will) say
تَٱللَّهِ
tal-lahi
By Allah
إِن
in
verily
كِدتَّ
kidtta
you almost
لَتُرْدِينِ
latur'dīni
ruined me
He will say, "By Allāh, you almost ruined me.

37:57
Ayah 37:57
وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ
وَلَوْلَا
walawlā
And if not
نِعْمَةُ
niʿ'matu
(for the) Grace
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
لَكُنتُ
lakuntu
certainly, I (would) have been
مِنَ
mina
among
ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ
l-muḥ'ḍarīna
those brought
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].

37:58
Ayah 37:58
أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ
أَفَمَا
afamā
Then are not
نَحْنُ
naḥnu
we
بِمَيِّتِينَ
bimayyitīna
(to) die
Then, are we not to die

37:59
Ayah 37:59
إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
مَوْتَتَنَا
mawtatanā
our death
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā
the first
وَمَا
wamā
and not
نَحْنُ
naḥnu
we
بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
bimuʿadhabīna
will be punished
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"

37:60
Ayah 37:60
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
لَهُوَ
lahuwa
surely
ٱلْفَوْزُ
l-fawzu
(is) the attainment
ٱلْعَظِيمُ
l-ʿaẓīmu
great
Indeed, this is the great attainment.

37:61
Ayah 37:61
لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ
لِمِثْلِ
limith'li
For (the) like
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
(of) this
فَلْيَعْمَلِ
falyaʿmali
let work
ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ
l-ʿāmilūna
the workers
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.

37:62
Ayah 37:62
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ
أَذَٰلِكَ
adhālika
Is that
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
better
نُّزُلًا
nuzulan
(as) hospitality
أَمْ
am
or
شَجَرَةُ
shajaratu
(the) tree
ٱلزَّقُّومِ
l-zaqūmi
(of) Zaqqum
Is that [i.e., Paradise] a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqūm?

37:63
Ayah 37:63
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَـٰهَا
jaʿalnāhā
[We] have made it
فِتْنَةً
fit'natan
a trial
لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.

37:64
Ayah 37:64
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
إِنَّهَا
innahā
Indeed, it
شَجَرَةٌ
shajaratun
(is) a tree
تَخْرُجُ
takhruju
that grows
فِىٓ
fī
in
أَصْلِ
aṣli
(the) bottom
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,

37:65
Ayah 37:65
طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ
طَلْعُهَا
ṭalʿuhā
Its emerging fruit
كَأَنَّهُۥ
ka-annahu
(is) as if it
رُءُوسُ
ruūsu
(was) heads
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ
l-shayāṭīni
(of) the devils
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.

37:66
Ayah 37:66
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
فَإِنَّهُمْ
fa-innahum
And indeed, they
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ
laākilūna
(will) surely eat
مِنْهَا
min'hā
from it
فَمَالِـُٔونَ
famāliūna
and fill
مِنْهَا
min'hā
with it
ٱلْبُطُونَ
l-buṭūna
(their) bellies
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.

37:67
Ayah 37:67
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
in it
لَشَوْبًا
lashawban
(is) a mixture
مِّنْ
min
of
حَمِيمٍ
ḥamīmin
boiling water
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.

37:68
Ayah 37:68
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
مَرْجِعَهُمْ
marjiʿahum
their return
لَإِلَى
la-ilā
(will) surely be to
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
the Hellfire
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.

37:69
Ayah 37:69
إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they
أَلْفَوْا۟
alfaw
found
ءَابَآءَهُمْ
ābāahum
their fathers
ضَآلِّينَ
ḍāllīna
astray
Indeed they found their fathers astray.

37:70
Ayah 37:70
فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ
فَهُمْ
fahum
So they
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ
āthārihim
their footsteps
يُهْرَعُونَ
yuh'raʿūna
they hastened
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.

37:71
Ayah 37:71
وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
ضَلَّ
ḍalla
went astray
قَبْلَهُمْ
qablahum
before them
أَكْثَرُ
aktharu
most
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,

37:72
Ayah 37:72
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
We sent
فِيهِم
fīhim
among them
مُّنذِرِينَ
mundhirīna
warners
And We had already sent among them warners.

37:73
Ayah 37:73
فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ
فَٱنظُرْ
fa-unẓur
Then see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
كَانَ
kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ
l-mundharīna
(of) those who were warned
Then look how was the end of those who were warned -

37:74
Ayah 37:74
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
عِبَادَ
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.

37:75
Ayah 37:75
وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
نَادَىٰنَا
nādānā
called Us
نُوحٌ
nūḥun
Nuh
فَلَنِعْمَ
falaniʿ'ma
and Best
ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ
l-mujībūna
(are We as) Responders
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.

37:76
Ayah 37:76
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ
wanajjaynāhu
And We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥ
wa-ahlahu
and his family
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْكَرْبِ
l-karbi
the distress
ٱلْعَظِيمِ
l-ʿaẓīmi
the great
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.

37:77
Ayah 37:77
وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnā
And We made
ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ
dhurriyyatahu
his offspring
هُمُ
humu
[they]
ٱلْبَاقِينَ
l-bāqīna
the survivors
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]

37:78
Ayah 37:78
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
وَتَرَكْنَا
wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for him
فِى
fī
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

37:79
Ayah 37:79
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
نُوحٍ
nūḥin
Nuh
فِى
fī
among
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
the worlds
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."

37:80
Ayah 37:80
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
[We] reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

37:81
Ayah 37:81
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
مِنْ
min
(was) of
عِبَادِنَا
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
believing
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

37:82
Ayah 37:82
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
أَغْرَقْنَا
aghraqnā
We drowned
ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ
l-ākharīna
the others
Then We drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers].

37:83
Ayah 37:83
۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
مِن
min
among
شِيعَتِهِۦ
shīʿatihi
his kind
لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ
la-ib'rāhīma
(was) surely Ibrahim
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,

37:84
Ayah 37:84
إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
إِذْ
idh
When
جَآءَ
jāa
he came
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu
(to) his Lord
بِقَلْبٍ
biqalbin
with a heart
سَلِيمٍ
salīmin
sound
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart

37:85
Ayah 37:85
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ
إِذْ
idh
When
قَالَ
qāla
he said
لِأَبِيهِ
li-abīhi
to his father
وَقَوْمِهِۦ
waqawmihi
and his people
مَاذَا
mādhā
What is it
تَعْبُدُونَ
taʿbudūna
you worship
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?

37:86
Ayah 37:86
أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ
أَئِفْكًا
a-if'kan
Is it falsehood
ءَالِهَةً
ālihatan
gods
دُونَ
dūna
other than
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
تُرِيدُونَ
turīdūna
(that) you desire
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allāh you desire?

37:87
Ayah 37:87
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
فَمَا
famā
Then what
ظَنُّكُم
ẓannukum
(do) you think
بِرَبِّ
birabbi
about (the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"

37:88
Ayah 37:88
فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ
فَنَظَرَ
fanaẓara
Then he glanced
نَظْرَةً
naẓratan
a glance
فِى
fī
at
ٱلنُّجُومِ
l-nujūmi
the stars
And he cast a look at the stars.

37:89
Ayah 37:89
فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌ
فَقَالَ
faqāla
And he said
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I am
سَقِيمٌ
saqīmun
sick
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."

37:90
Ayah 37:90
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟
fatawallaw
So they turned away
عَنْهُ
ʿanhu
from him
مُدْبِرِينَ
mud'birīna
departing
So they turned away from him, departing.

37:91
Ayah 37:91
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ
فَرَاغَ
farāgha
Then he turned
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
ءَالِهَتِهِمْ
ālihatihim
their gods
فَقَالَ
faqāla
and said
أَلَا
alā
Do not
تَأْكُلُونَ
takulūna
you eat
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?1

37:92
Ayah 37:92
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
مَا
mā
What (is)
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
لَا
lā
not
تَنطِقُونَ
tanṭiqūna
you speak
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?".

37:93
Ayah 37:93
فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ
فَرَاغَ
farāgha
Then he turned
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
upon them
ضَرْبًۢا
ḍarban
striking
بِٱلْيَمِينِ
bil-yamīni
with the right hand
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.

37:94
Ayah 37:94
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟
fa-aqbalū
Then they advanced
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
towards him
يَزِفُّونَ
yaziffūna
hastening
Then they [i.e., the people] came toward him, hastening.

37:95
Ayah 37:95
قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَتَعْبُدُونَ
ataʿbudūna
Do you worship
مَا
mā
what
تَنْحِتُونَ
tanḥitūna
you carve
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,

37:96
Ayah 37:96
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
While Allah
خَلَقَكُمْ
khalaqakum
created you
وَمَا
wamā
and what
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūna
you make
While Allāh created you and that which you do?"

37:97
Ayah 37:97
قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They said
ٱبْنُوا۟
ib'nū
Build
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
بُنْيَـٰنًا
bun'yānan
a structure
فَأَلْقُوهُ
fa-alqūhu
and throw him
فِى
fī
into
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
the blazing Fire
They said, "Construct for him a structure [i.e., furnace] and throw him into the burning fire."

37:98
Ayah 37:98
فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ
فَأَرَادُوا۟
fa-arādū
And they intended
بِهِۦ
bihi
for him
كَيْدًا
kaydan
a plot
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ
fajaʿalnāhumu
but We made them
ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ
l-asfalīna
the lowest
And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the most debased.

37:99
Ayah 37:99
وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And he said
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I am
ذَاهِبٌ
dhāhibun
going
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
سَيَهْدِينِ
sayahdīni
He will guide me
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.

37:100
Ayah 37:100
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
هَبْ
hab
grant
لِى
lī
me
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."

37:101
Ayah 37:101
فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ
فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ
fabasharnāhu
So We gave him the glad tidings
بِغُلَـٰمٍ
bighulāmin
of a boy
حَلِيمٍ
ḥalīmin
forbearing
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.

37:102
Ayah 37:102
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
Then when
بَلَغَ
balagha
he reached
مَعَهُ
maʿahu
the (age of) working with him
ٱلسَّعْىَ
l-saʿya
the (age of) working with him
قَالَ
qāla
he said
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
yābunayya
O my son
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أَرَىٰ
arā
have seen
فِى
fī
in
ٱلْمَنَامِ
l-manāmi
the dream
أَنِّىٓ
annī
that I am
أَذْبَحُكَ
adhbaḥuka
sacrificing you
فَٱنظُرْ
fa-unẓur
so look
مَاذَا
mādhā
what
تَرَىٰ
tarā
you see
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ
yāabati
O my father
ٱفْعَلْ
if'ʿal
Do
مَا
mā
what
تُؤْمَرُ
tu'maru
you are commanded
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ
satajidunī
You will find me
إِن
in
if
شَآءَ
shāa
Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah wills
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
l-ṣābirīna
the patient ones
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion,1 he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast."

37:103
Ayah 37:103
فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِ
فَلَمَّآ
falammā
Then when
أَسْلَمَا
aslamā
both of them had submitted
وَتَلَّهُۥ
watallahu
and he put him down
لِلْجَبِينِ
lil'jabīni
upon his forehead
And when they had both submitted1 and he put him down upon his forehead,

37:104
Ayah 37:104
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ
wanādaynāhu
And We called out to him
أَن
an
that
يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ
yāib'rāhīmu
O Ibrahim
We called to him, "O Abraham,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:105
Ayah 37:105
قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
قَدْ
qad
Verily
صَدَّقْتَ
ṣaddaqta
you have fulfilled
ٱلرُّءْيَآ
l-ru'yā
the vision
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
[We] reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

37:106
Ayah 37:106
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
لَهُوَ
lahuwa
(was) surely [it]
ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟
l-balāu
the trial
ٱلْمُبِينُ
l-mubīnu
clear
Indeed, this was the clear trial.

37:107
Ayah 37:107
وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ
وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ
wafadaynāhu
And We ransomed him
بِذِبْحٍ
bidhib'ḥin
with a sacrifice
عَظِيمٍ
ʿaẓīmin
great
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,1

37:108
Ayah 37:108
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
وَتَرَكْنَا
wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for him
فِى
fī
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:109
Ayah 37:109
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
"Peace upon Abraham."
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:110
Ayah 37:110
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
We reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

37:111
Ayah 37:111
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he (was)
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِنَا
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
believing
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

37:112
Ayah 37:112
وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ
wabasharnāhu
And We gave him glad tidings
بِإِسْحَـٰقَ
bi-is'ḥāqa
of Isaac
نَبِيًّا
nabiyyan
a Prophet
مِّنَ
mina
among
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.1

37:113
Ayah 37:113
وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌ
وَبَـٰرَكْنَا
wabāraknā
And We blessed
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
him
وَعَلَىٰٓ
waʿalā
and [on]
إِسْحَـٰقَ
is'ḥāqa
Isaac
وَمِن
wamin
And of
ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا
dhurriyyatihimā
their offspring
مُحْسِنٌ
muḥ'sinun
(are) good-doers
وَظَالِمٌ
waẓālimun
and unjust
لِّنَفْسِهِۦ
linafsihi
to himself
مُبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself [i.e., sinner].

37:114
Ayah 37:114
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
مَنَنَّا
manannā
We conferred Favor
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
وَهَـٰرُونَ
wahārūna
and Harun
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.

37:115
Ayah 37:115
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا
wanajjaynāhumā
And We saved both of them
وَقَوْمَهُمَا
waqawmahumā
and their people
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْكَرْبِ
l-karbi
the distress
ٱلْعَظِيمِ
l-ʿaẓīmi
the great
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:116
Ayah 37:116
وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ
وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ
wanaṣarnāhum
And We helped them
فَكَانُوا۟
fakānū
so they became
هُمُ
humu
so they became
ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ
l-ghālibīna
the victors
And We supported them so it was they who overcame.

37:117
Ayah 37:117
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا
waātaynāhumā
And We gave both of them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Book
ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ
l-mus'tabīna
the clear
And We gave them the explicit Scripture [i.e., the Torah],
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:118
Ayah 37:118
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا
wahadaynāhumā
And We guided both of them
ٱلصِّرَٰطَ
l-ṣirāṭa
(to) the Path
ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
l-mus'taqīma
the Straight
And We guided them on the straight path.

37:119
Ayah 37:119
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
وَتَرَكْنَا
wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِمَا
ʿalayhimā
for both of them
فِى
fī
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:120
Ayah 37:120
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
وَهَـٰرُونَ
wahārūna
and Harun
"Peace upon Moses and Aaron."
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:121
Ayah 37:121
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

37:122
Ayah 37:122
إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
إِنَّهُمَا
innahumā
Indeed, both of them
مِنْ
min
(were) of
عِبَادِنَا
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
believing
Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.

37:123
Ayah 37:123
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
إِلْيَاسَ
il'yāsa
Elijah
لَمِنَ
lamina
(was) surely of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,

37:124
Ayah 37:124
إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
إِذْ
idh
When
قَالَ
qāla
he said
لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ
liqawmihi
to his people
أَلَا
alā
Will not
تَتَّقُونَ
tattaqūna
you fear
When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allāh?

37:125
Ayah 37:125
أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ
أَتَدْعُونَ
atadʿūna
Do you call
بَعْلًا
baʿlan
Baal
وَتَذَرُونَ
watadharūna
and you forsake
أَحْسَنَ
aḥsana
(the) Best
ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ
l-khāliqīna
(of) Creators
Do you call upon Baʿl1 and leave the best of creators -

37:126
Ayah 37:126
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
رَبَّكُمْ
rabbakum
your Lord
وَرَبَّ
warabba
and (the) Lord
ءَابَآئِكُمُ
ābāikumu
(of) your forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
(of) your forefathers
Allāh, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"

37:127
Ayah 37:127
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
فَكَذَّبُوهُ
fakadhabūhu
But they denied him
فَإِنَّهُمْ
fa-innahum
so indeed, they
لَمُحْضَرُونَ
lamuḥ'ḍarūna
(will) surely be brought
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],

37:128
Ayah 37:128
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
عِبَادَ
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
Except the chosen servants of Allāh.

37:129
Ayah 37:129
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
وَتَرَكْنَا
wataraknā
And We left
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for him
فِى
fī
among
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:130
Ayah 37:130
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmun
Peace be
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
upon
إِلْ
il yāsīna
Elijah
"Peace upon Elias."1
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:131
Ayah 37:131
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
thus
نَجْزِى
najzī
reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

37:132
Ayah 37:132
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he (was)
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِنَا
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
believing
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

37:133
Ayah 37:133
وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لُوطًا
lūṭan
Lut
لَّمِنَ
lamina
(was) of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.

37:134
Ayah 37:134
إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ
إِذْ
idh
When
نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ
najjaynāhu
We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ
wa-ahlahu
and his family
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīna
all
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:135
Ayah 37:135
إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
عَجُوزًا
ʿajūzan
an old woman
فِى
fī
(was) among
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ
l-ghābirīna
those who remained behind
Except an old woman [i.e., his wife] among those who remained [with the evildoers].
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:136
Ayah 37:136
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
دَمَّرْنَا
dammarnā
We destroyed
ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ
l-ākharīna
the others
Then We destroyed the others.

37:137
Ayah 37:137
وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ
وَإِنَّكُمْ
wa-innakum
And indeed, you
لَتَمُرُّونَ
latamurrūna
surely pass
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
by them
مُّصْبِحِينَ
muṣ'biḥīna
(in the) morning
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning

37:138
Ayah 37:138
وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
وَبِٱلَّيْلِ
wabi-al-layli
And at night
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then will not
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūna
you use reason
And at night. Then will you not use reason?

37:139
Ayah 37:139
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
يُونُسَ
yūnusa
Yunus
لَمِنَ
lamina
(was) surely of
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.

37:140
Ayah 37:140
إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
إِذْ
idh
When
أَبَقَ
abaqa
he ran away
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْفُلْكِ
l-ful'ki
the ship
ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
l-mashḥūni
laden
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:141
Ayah 37:141
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ
فَسَاهَمَ
fasāhama
Then he drew lots
فَكَانَ
fakāna
and was
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ
l-mud'ḥaḍīna
the losers
And he drew lots1 and was among the losers.

37:142
Ayah 37:142
فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ
فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ
fal-taqamahu
Then swallowed him
ٱلْحُوتُ
l-ḥūtu
the fish
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
مُلِيمٌ
mulīmun
(was) blameworthy
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.1

37:143
Ayah 37:143
فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ
فَلَوْلَآ
falawlā
And if not
أَنَّهُۥ
annahu
that he
كَانَ
kāna
was
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ
l-musabiḥīna
those who glorify
And had he not been of those who exalt Allāh,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:144
Ayah 37:144
لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
لَلَبِثَ
lalabitha
Certainly, he (would have) remained
فِى
fī
in
بَطْنِهِۦٓ
baṭnihi
its belly
إِلَىٰ
ilā
until
يَوْمِ
yawmi
the Day
يُبْعَثُونَ
yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.1

37:145
Ayah 37:145
۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ
fanabadhnāhu
But We cast him
بِٱلْعَرَآءِ
bil-ʿarāi
onto the open shore
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
سَقِيمٌ
saqīmun
(was) ill
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.

37:146
Ayah 37:146
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا
wa-anbatnā
And We caused to grow
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
over him
شَجَرَةً
shajaratan
a plant
مِّن
min
of
يَقْطِينٍ
yaqṭīnin
gourd
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.1

37:147
Ayah 37:147
وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ
وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ
wa-arsalnāhu
And We sent him
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
مِا۟ئَةِ
mi-ati
a hundred
أَلْفٍ
alfin
thousand
أَوْ
aw
or
يَزِيدُونَ
yazīdūna
more
And We sent him1 to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.

37:148
Ayah 37:148
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟
faāmanū
And they believed
فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ
famattaʿnāhum
so We gave them enjoyment
إِلَىٰ
ilā
for
حِينٍ
ḥīnin
a while
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.

37:149
Ayah 37:149
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ
fa-is'taftihim
Then ask them
أَلِرَبِّكَ
alirabbika
Does your Lord
ٱلْبَنَاتُ
l-banātu
(have) daughters
وَلَهُمُ
walahumu
while for them
ٱلْبَنُونَ
l-banūna
(are) sons
So inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?1

37:150
Ayah 37:150
أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَ
أَمْ
am
Or
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnā
did We create
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ
l-malāikata
the Angels
إِنَـٰثًا
ināthan
females
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
شَـٰهِدُونَ
shāhidūna
(were) witnesses
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"

37:151
Ayah 37:151
أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ
أَلَآ
alā
No doubt
إِنَّهُم
innahum
indeed, they
مِّنْ
min
of
إِفْكِهِمْ
if'kihim
their falsehood
لَيَقُولُونَ
layaqūlūna
[they] say
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,

37:152
Ayah 37:152
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ
وَلَدَ
walada
Allah has begotten
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has begotten
وَإِنَّهُمْ
wa-innahum
and indeed, they
لَكَـٰذِبُونَ
lakādhibūna
surely (are) liars
"Allāh has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.

37:153
Ayah 37:153
أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ
أَصْطَفَى
aṣṭafā
Has He chosen
ٱلْبَنَاتِ
l-banāti
[the] daughters
عَلَى
ʿalā
over
ٱلْبَنِينَ
l-banīna
sons
Has He chosen daughters over sons?

37:154
Ayah 37:154
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
مَا
mā
What is with you
لَكُمْ
lakum
What is with you
كَيْفَ
kayfa
How
تَحْكُمُونَ
taḥkumūna
you judge
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?

37:155
Ayah 37:155
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then will not
تَذَكَّرُونَ
tadhakkarūna
you pay heed
Then will you not be reminded?

37:156
Ayah 37:156
أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌ
أَمْ
am
Or
لَكُمْ
lakum
(is) for you
سُلْطَـٰنٌ
sul'ṭānun
an authority
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
Or do you have a clear authority?1

37:157
Ayah 37:157
فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
فَأْتُوا۟
fatū
Then bring
بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ
bikitābikum
your book
إِن
in
if
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ
ṣādiqīna
truthful
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.

37:158
Ayah 37:158
وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
وَجَعَلُوا۟
wajaʿalū
And they have made
بَيْنَهُۥ
baynahu
between Him
وَبَيْنَ
wabayna
and between
ٱلْجِنَّةِ
l-jinati
the jinn
نَسَبًا
nasaban
a relationship
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
but certainly
عَلِمَتِ
ʿalimati
know
ٱلْجِنَّةُ
l-jinatu
the jinn
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
that they
لَمُحْضَرُونَ
lamuḥ'ḍarūna
(will) surely be brought
And they have made [i.e., claimed] between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought [to punishment].

37:159
Ayah 37:159
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
سُبْحَـٰنَ
sub'ḥāna
Glory be
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(to) Allah
عَمَّا
ʿammā
above what
يَصِفُونَ
yaṣifūna
they attribute
Exalted is Allāh above what they describe,

37:160
Ayah 37:160
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
عِبَادَ
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen
Except the chosen servants of Allāh [who do not share in that sin].

37:161
Ayah 37:161
فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ
فَإِنَّكُمْ
fa-innakum
So indeed, you
وَمَا
wamā
and what
تَعْبُدُونَ
taʿbudūna
you worship
So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,

37:162
Ayah 37:162
مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَ
مَآ
mā
Not
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
from Him
بِفَـٰتِنِينَ
bifātinīna
can tempt away (anyone)
You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him

37:163
Ayah 37:163
إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
مَنْ
man
who
هُوَ
huwa
he
صَالِ
ṣāli
(is) to burn
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
(in) the Hellfire
Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.1

37:164
Ayah 37:164
وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
مِنَّآ
minnā
among us
إِلَّا
illā
except
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
مَقَامٌ
maqāmun
(is) a position
مَّعْلُومٌ
maʿlūmun
known
[The angels say],1 "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.2

37:165
Ayah 37:165
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ
وَإِنَّا
wa-innā
And indeed, we
لَنَحْنُ
lanaḥnu
surely, [we]
ٱلصَّآفُّونَ
l-ṣāfūna
stand in rows
And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].

37:166
Ayah 37:166
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ
وَإِنَّا
wa-innā
And indeed, we
لَنَحْنُ
lanaḥnu
surely, [we]
ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ
l-musabiḥūna
glorify (Allah)
And indeed, we are those who exalt Allāh."

37:167
Ayah 37:167
وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ
وَإِن
wa-in
And indeed
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used to
لَيَقُولُونَ
layaqūlūna
say
And indeed, they [i.e., the disbelievers] used to say,1

37:168
Ayah 37:168
لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
لَوْ
law
If
أَنَّ
anna
that
عِندَنَا
ʿindanā
we had
ذِكْرًا
dhik'ran
a reminder
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
the former (people)
"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,

37:169
Ayah 37:169
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
لَكُنَّا
lakunnā
Certainly, we (would) have been
عِبَادَ
ʿibāda
slaves
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen
We would have been the chosen servants of Allāh."

37:170
Ayah 37:170
فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
فَكَفَرُوا۟
fakafarū
But they disbelieved
بِهِۦ
bihi
in it
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
so soon
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
they will know
But they disbelieved in it,1 so they are going to know.

37:171
Ayah 37:171
وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
سَبَقَتْ
sabaqat
has preceded
كَلِمَتُنَا
kalimatunā
Our Word
لِعِبَادِنَا
liʿibādinā
for Our slaves
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And Our word [i.e., decree] has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
37:172
Ayah 37:172
إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed they
لَهُمُ
lahumu
surely they
ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ
l-manṣūrūna
(would be) the victorious
[That] indeed, they would be those given victory

37:173
Ayah 37:173
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
جُندَنَا
jundanā
Our host
لَهُمُ
lahumu
surely, they
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ
l-ghālibūna
(will be) those who overcome
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers [i.e., the believers] will be those who overcome.1

37:174
Ayah 37:174
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
فَتَوَلَّ
fatawalla
So turn away
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhum
from them
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
حِينٍ
ḥīnin
a time
So, [O Muḥammad], leave them for a time.

37:175
Ayah 37:175
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ
wa-abṣir'hum
And see them
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
so soon
يُبْصِرُونَ
yub'ṣirūna
they will see
And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.

37:176
Ayah 37:176
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا
afabiʿadhābinā
Then is (it) for Our punishment
يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
yastaʿjilūna
they hasten
Then for Our punishment are they impatient?

37:177
Ayah 37:177
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
But when
نَزَلَ
nazala
it descends
بِسَاحَتِهِمْ
bisāḥatihim
in their territory
فَسَآءَ
fasāa
then evil (will be)
صَبَاحُ
ṣabāḥu
(the) morning
ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ
l-mundharīna
(for) those who were warned
But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.

37:178
Ayah 37:178
وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
وَتَوَلَّ
watawalla
So turn away
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhum
from them
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
for
حِينٍ
ḥīnin
a time
And leave them for a time.

37:179
Ayah 37:179
وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ
وَأَبْصِرْ
wa-abṣir
And see
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
so soon
يُبْصِرُونَ
yub'ṣirūna
they will see
And see, for they are going to see.

37:180
Ayah 37:180
سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
سُبْحَـٰنَ
sub'ḥāna
Glory
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(be to) your Lord
رَبِّ
rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعِزَّةِ
l-ʿizati
(of) Honor
عَمَّا
ʿammā
above what
يَصِفُونَ
yaṣifūna
they attribute
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.

37:181
Ayah 37:181
وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَسَلَـٰمٌ
wasalāmun
And peace be
عَلَى
ʿalā
upon
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
And peace upon the messengers.

37:182
Ayah 37:182
وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
وَٱلْحَمْدُ
wal-ḥamdu
And all praise
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(be) to Allah
رَبِّ
rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
And praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
