38:1
Ayah 38:1
صٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ذِى ٱلذِّكْرِ
صٓ

Saad
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ
wal-qur'āni
By the Quran
ذِى
dhī

ٱلذِّكْرِ
l-dhik'ri
full (of) reminder

38:2
Ayah 38:2
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ
بَلِ
bali
Nay
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
فِى
(are) in
عِزَّةٍ
ʿizzatin
self-glory
وَشِقَاقٍ
washiqāqin
and opposition
But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.

38:3
Ayah 38:3
كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا۟ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ
كَمْ
kam
How many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknā
We destroyed
مِن
min
before them
قَبْلِهِم
qablihim
before them
مِّن
min
of
قَرْنٍ
qarnin
a generation
فَنَادَوا۟
fanādaw
then they called out
وَّلَاتَ
walāta
when there (was) no longer
حِينَ
ḥīna
time
مَنَاصٍ
manāṣin
(for) escape
How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.

38:4
Ayah 38:4
وَعَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا سَـٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ
وَعَجِبُوٓا۟
waʿajibū
And they wonder
أَن
an
that
جَآءَهُم
jāahum
has come to them
مُّنذِرٌ
mundhirun
a warner
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
from themselves
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
سَـٰحِرٌ
sāḥirun
(is) a magician
كَذَّابٌ
kadhābun
a liar
And they wonder that there has come to them a warner [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.

38:5
Ayah 38:5
أَجَعَلَ ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ إِلَـٰهًا وَٰحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ
أَجَعَلَ
ajaʿala
Has he made
ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ
l-ālihata
the gods
إِلَـٰهًا
ilāhan
(into) one god
وَٰحِدًا
wāḥidan
(into) one god
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
لَشَىْءٌ
lashayon
(is) certainly a thing
عُجَابٌ
ʿujābun
curious
Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing."

38:6
Ayah 38:6
وَٱنطَلَقَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱمْشُوا۟ وَٱصْبِرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ يُرَادُ
وَٱنطَلَقَ
wa-inṭalaqa
And went forth
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-u
the chiefs
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
among them
أَنِ
ani
that
ٱمْشُوا۟
im'shū
Continue
وَٱصْبِرُوا۟
wa-iṣ'birū
and be patient
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
over
ءَالِهَتِكُمْ
ālihatikum
your gods
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
لَشَىْءٌ
lashayon
(is) certainly a thing
يُرَادُ
yurādu
intended
And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended.1

38:7
Ayah 38:7
مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِى ٱلْمِلَّةِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ
مَا
Not
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nā
we heard
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhā
of this
فِى
in
ٱلْمِلَّةِ
l-milati
the religion
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
the last
إِنْ
in
Not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā
(is) this
إِلَّا
illā
but
ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ
ikh'tilāqun
a fabrication
We have not heard of this in the latest religion.1 This is not but a fabrication.

38:8
Ayah 38:8
أَءُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِى ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِ
أَءُنزِلَ
a-unzila
Has been revealed
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
ٱلذِّكْرُ
l-dhik'ru
the Message
مِنۢ
min
from
بَيْنِنَا
bayninā
among us
بَلْ
bal
Nay
هُمْ
hum
They
فِى
(are) in
شَكٍّ
shakkin
doubt
مِّن
min
about
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rī
My Message
بَل
bal
Nay
لَّمَّا
lammā
not yet
يَذُوقُوا۟
yadhūqū
they have tasted
عَذَابِ
ʿadhābi
My punishment
Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

38:9
Ayah 38:9
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْوَهَّابِ
أَمْ
am
Or
عِندَهُمْ
ʿindahum
have they
خَزَآئِنُ
khazāinu
(the) treasures
رَحْمَةِ
raḥmati
(of the) Mercy
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty
ٱلْوَهَّابِ
l-wahābi
the Bestower
Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?1

38:10
Ayah 38:10
أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ
أَمْ
am
Or
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مُّلْكُ
mul'ku
(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā
(is) between them
فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟
falyartaqū
Then let them ascend
فِى
by
ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ
l-asbābi
the means
Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access.1

38:11
Ayah 38:11
جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
جُندٌ
jundun
Soldiers
مَّا
there
هُنَالِكَ
hunālika
there
مَهْزُومٌ
mahzūmun
(they will be) defeated
مِّنَ
mina
among
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
l-aḥzābi
the companies
[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].

38:12
Ayah 38:12
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
كَذَّبَتْ
kadhabat
Denied
قَبْلَهُمْ
qablahum
before them
قَوْمُ
qawmu
(the) people
نُوحٍ
nūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَعَادٌ
waʿādun
and Aad
وَفِرْعَوْنُ
wafir'ʿawnu
and Firaun
ذُو
dhū
(the) owner
ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
l-awtādi
(of) the stakes
The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] ʿAad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,1

38:13
Ayah 38:13
وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ
وَثَمُودُ
wathamūdu
And Thamud
وَقَوْمُ
waqawmu
and (the) people
لُوطٍ
lūṭin
(of) Lut
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ
wa-aṣḥābu
and (the) companions
لْـَٔيْكَةِ
al'aykati
(of) the wood
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
ٱلْأَحْزَابُ
l-aḥzābu
(were) the companies
And [the tribe of] Thamūd and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket [i.e., people of Madyan]. Those are the companies.1

38:14
Ayah 38:14
إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ
إِن
in
Not
كُلٌّ
kullun
all (of them)
إِلَّا
illā
but
كَذَّبَ
kadhaba
denied
ٱلرُّسُلَ
l-rusula
the Messengers
فَحَقَّ
faḥaqqa
so (was) just
عِقَابِ
ʿiqābi
My penalty
Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified.

38:15
Ayah 38:15
وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
يَنظُرُ
yanẓuru
await
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāi
these
إِلَّا
illā
but
صَيْحَةً
ṣayḥatan
a shout
وَٰحِدَةً
wāḥidatan
one
مَّا
not
لَهَا
lahā
for it
مِن
min
any
فَوَاقٍ
fawāqin
delay
And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.1

38:16
Ayah 38:16
وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālū
And they say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
عَجِّل
ʿajjil
Hasten
لَّنَا
lanā
for us
قِطَّنَا
qiṭṭanā
our share
قَبْلَ
qabla
before
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi
(of) the Account
And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account."

38:17
Ayah 38:17
ٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
ٱصْبِرْ
iṣ'bir
Be patient
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
مَا
what
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
they say
وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kur
and remember
عَبْدَنَا
ʿabdanā
Our slave
دَاوُۥدَ
dāwūda
Dawood
ذَا
dhā
the possessor of strength
ٱلْأَيْدِ
l-aydi
the possessor of strength
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahu
Indeed, he (was)
أَوَّابٌ
awwābun
repeatedly turning
Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allāh].

38:18
Ayah 38:18
إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا ٱلْجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
سَخَّرْنَا
sakharnā
subjected
ٱلْجِبَالَ
l-jibāla
the mountains
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahu
with him
يُسَبِّحْنَ
yusabbiḥ'na
glorifying
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
bil-ʿashiyi
in the evening
وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ
wal-ish'rāqi
and [the] sunrise
Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allāh] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.

38:19
Ayah 38:19
وَٱلطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً ۖ كُلٌّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
وَٱلطَّيْرَ
wal-ṭayra
And the birds
مَحْشُورَةً
maḥshūratan
assembled
كُلٌّ
kullun
all
لَّهُۥٓ
lahu
with him
أَوَّابٌ
awwābun
repeatedly turning
And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].

38:20
Ayah 38:20
وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ ٱلْخِطَابِ
وَشَدَدْنَا
washadadnā
And We strengthened
مُلْكَهُۥ
mul'kahu
his kingdom
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
waātaynāhu
and We gave him
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ
l-ḥik'mata
[the] wisdom
وَفَصْلَ
wafaṣla
and decisive
ٱلْخِطَابِ
l-khiṭābi
speech
And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.

38:21
Ayah 38:21
۞ وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا۟ ٱلْمِحْرَابَ
وَهَلْ
wahal
And has (there)
أَتَىٰكَ
atāka
come to you
نَبَؤُا۟
naba-u
(the) news
ٱلْخَصْمِ
l-khaṣmi
(of) the litigants
إِذْ
idh
when
تَسَوَّرُوا۟
tasawwarū
they climbed over the wall
ٱلْمِحْرَابَ
l-miḥ'rāba
(of) the chamber
And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -

38:22
Ayah 38:22
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَٱهْدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
إِذْ

When
دَخَلُوا۟
dakhalū
they entered
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
دَاوُۥدَ
dāwūda
Dawood
فَفَزِعَ
fafaziʿa
and he was afraid
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
of them
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفْ
takhaf
fear
خَصْمَانِ
khaṣmāni
(We are) two litigants
بَغَىٰ
baghā
has wronged
بَعْضُنَا
baʿḍunā
one of us
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍin
another
فَٱحْكُم
fa-uḥ'kum
so judge
بَيْنَنَا
baynanā
between us
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تُشْطِطْ
tush'ṭiṭ
be unjust
وَٱهْدِنَآ
wa-ih'dinā
and guide us
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
سَوَآءِ
sawāi
an even
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
l-ṣirāṭi
[the] path
When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.

38:23
Ayah 38:23
إِنَّ هَـٰذَآ أَخِى لَهُۥ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِىَ نَعْجَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِى فِى ٱلْخِطَابِ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā
this
أَخِى
akhī
(is) my brother
لَهُۥ
lahu
he has
تِسْعٌ
tis'ʿun
ninety-nine
وَتِسْعُونَ
watis'ʿūna
ninety-nine
نَعْجَةً
naʿjatan
ewe(s)
وَلِىَ
waliya
while I have
نَعْجَةٌ
naʿjatun
ewe
وَٰحِدَةٌ
wāḥidatun
one
فَقَالَ
faqāla
so he said
أَكْفِلْنِيهَا
akfil'nīhā
Entrust her to me
وَعَزَّنِى
waʿazzanī
and he overpowered me
فِى
in
ٱلْخِطَابِ
l-khiṭābi
[the] speech
Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."

38:24
Ayah 38:24
قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِى بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّـٰهُ فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ ۩
قَالَ
qāla
He said
لَقَدْ
laqad
Certainly
ظَلَمَكَ
ẓalamaka
he has wronged you
بِسُؤَالِ
bisuāli
by demanding
نَعْجَتِكَ
naʿjatika
your ewe
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
نِعَاجِهِۦ
niʿājihi
his ewes
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
كَثِيرًا
kathīran
many
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ
l-khulaṭāi
the partners
لَيَبْغِى
layabghī
certainly oppress
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
[on]
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍin
another
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَقَلِيلٌ
waqalīlun
and few
مَّا
(are) they
هُمْ
hum
(are) they
وَظَنَّ
waẓanna
And became certain
دَاوُۥدُ
dāwūdu
Dawood
أَنَّمَا
annamā
that
فَتَنَّـٰهُ
fatannāhu
We (had) tried him
فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ
fa-is'taghfara
and he asked forgiveness
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu
(of) his Lord
وَخَرَّ
wakharra
and fell down
رَاكِعًا
rākiʿan
bowing
وَأَنَابَ
wa-anāba
and turned in repentance
[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord1 and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allāh].

38:25
Ayah 38:25
فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ
فَغَفَرْنَا
faghafarnā
So We forgave
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
عِندَنَا
ʿindanā
with Us
لَزُلْفَىٰ
lazul'fā
surely is a near access
وَحُسْنَ
waḥus'na
and a good
مَـَٔابٍ
maābin
place of return
So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.

38:26
Ayah 38:26
يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰكَ خَلِيفَةً فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌۢ بِمَا نَسُوا۟ يَوْمَ ٱلْحِسَابِ
يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ
yādāwūdu
O Dawood
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
جَعَلْنَـٰكَ
jaʿalnāka
[We] have made you
خَلِيفَةً
khalīfatan
a vicegerent
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
فَٱحْكُم
fa-uḥ'kum
so judge
بَيْنَ
bayna
between
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
[the] men
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعِ
tattabiʿi
follow
ٱلْهَوَىٰ
l-hawā
the desire
فَيُضِلَّكَ
fayuḍillaka
for it will lead you astray

ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يَضِلُّونَ
yaḍillūna
go astray
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
شَدِيدٌۢ
shadīdun
severe
بِمَا
bimā
because
نَسُوا۟
nasū
they forgot
يَوْمَ
yawma
(the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi
(of) Account
[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.

38:27
Ayah 38:27
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَـٰطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnā
We created
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
l-samāa
the heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍa
and the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā
(is) between them
بَـٰطِلًا
bāṭilan
without purpose
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
ظَنُّ
ẓannu
(is the) assumption
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
فَوَيْلٌ
fawaylun
So woe
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
who disbelieve
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.

38:28
Ayah 38:28
أَمْ نَجْعَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ كَٱلْفُجَّارِ
أَمْ
am
Or
نَجْعَلُ
najʿalu
should We treat
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
kal-muf'sidīna
like those who spread corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
أَمْ
am
Or
نَجْعَلُ
najʿalu
should We treat
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
l-mutaqīna
the pious
كَٱلْفُجَّارِ
kal-fujāri
like the wicked
Or should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allāh like the wicked?

38:29
Ayah 38:29
كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَـٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
كِتَـٰبٌ
kitābun
(This is) a Book
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhu
We have revealed it
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
مُبَـٰرَكٌ
mubārakun
blessed
لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟
liyaddabbarū
that they may ponder
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ
āyātihi
(over) its Verses
وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ
waliyatadhakkara
and may be reminded
أُو۟لُوا۟
ulū
those of understanding
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
l-albābi
those of understanding
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.

38:30
Ayah 38:30
وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُۥدَ سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ نِعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
وَوَهَبْنَا
wawahabnā
And We gave
لِدَاوُۥدَ
lidāwūda
to Dawood
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ
sulaymāna
Sulaiman
نِعْمَ
niʿ'ma
an excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ
l-ʿabdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahu
Indeed, he
أَوَّابٌ
awwābun
(was) one who repeatedly turned
And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].

38:31
Ayah 38:31
إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ ٱلْجِيَادُ
إِذْ
idh
When
عُرِضَ
ʿuriḍa
were displayed
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
bil-ʿashiyi
in the afternoon
ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ
l-ṣāfinātu
excellent bred steeds
ٱلْجِيَادُ
l-jiyādu
excellent bred steeds
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.

38:32
Ayah 38:32
فَقَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ ٱلْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّى حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِٱلْحِجَابِ
فَقَالَ
faqāla
And he said
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أَحْبَبْتُ
aḥbabtu
[I] preferred
حُبَّ
ḥubba
(the) love
ٱلْخَيْرِ
l-khayri
(of) the good
عَن
ʿan
over
ذِكْرِ
dhik'ri
(the) remembrance
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
Until
تَوَارَتْ
tawārat
they were hidden
بِٱلْحِجَابِ
bil-ḥijābi
in the veil
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."

38:33
Ayah 38:33
رُدُّوهَا عَلَىَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًۢا بِٱلسُّوقِ وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ
رُدُّوهَا
ruddūhā
Return them
عَلَىَّ
ʿalayya
to me
فَطَفِقَ
faṭafiqa
Then he began
مَسْحًۢا
masḥan
(to) pass (his hand)
بِٱلسُّوقِ
bil-sūqi
over the legs
وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ
wal-aʿnāqi
and the necks
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking1 [their] legs and necks.

38:34
Ayah 38:34
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَـٰنَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِۦ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And certainly
فَتَنَّا
fatannā
We tried
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ
sulaymāna
Sulaiman
وَأَلْقَيْنَا
wa-alqaynā
and We placed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
كُرْسِيِّهِۦ
kur'siyyihi
his throne
جَسَدًا
jasadan
a body
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
أَنَابَ
anāba
he turned
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body;1 then he returned.2

38:35
Ayah 38:35
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَهَبْ لِى مُلْكًا لَّا يَنۢبَغِى لِأَحَدٍ مِّنۢ بَعْدِىٓ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
O my Lord
ٱغْفِرْ
igh'fir
Forgive
لِى
me
وَهَبْ
wahab
and grant
لِى
me
مُلْكًا
mul'kan
a kingdom
لَّا
not
يَنۢبَغِى
yanbaghī
(will) belong
لِأَحَدٍ
li-aḥadin
to anyone
مِّنۢ
min
after me
بَعْدِىٓ
baʿdī
after me
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, You
أَنتَ
anta
[You]
ٱلْوَهَّابُ
l-wahābu
(are) the Bestower
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."

38:36
Ayah 38:36
فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ ٱلرِّيحَ تَجْرِى بِأَمْرِهِۦ رُخَآءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ
فَسَخَّرْنَا
fasakharnā
Then We subjected
لَهُ
lahu
to him
ٱلرِّيحَ
l-rīḥa
the wind
تَجْرِى
tajrī
to flow
بِأَمْرِهِۦ
bi-amrihi
by his command
رُخَآءً
rukhāan
gently
حَيْثُ
ḥaythu
wherever
أَصَابَ
aṣāba
he directed
So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,

38:37
Ayah 38:37
وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّآءٍ وَغَوَّاصٍ
وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ
wal-shayāṭīna
And the devils
كُلَّ
kulla
every
بَنَّآءٍ
bannāin
builder
وَغَوَّاصٍ
waghawwāṣin
and diver
And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver.

38:38
Ayah 38:38
وَءَاخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِى ٱلْأَصْفَادِ
وَءَاخَرِينَ
waākharīna
And others
مُقَرَّنِينَ
muqarranīna
bound
فِى
in
ٱلْأَصْفَادِ
l-aṣfādi
chains
And others bound together in irons.

38:39
Ayah 38:39
هَـٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَٱمْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
عَطَآؤُنَا
ʿaṭāunā
(is) Our gift
فَٱمْنُنْ
fa-um'nun
so grant
أَوْ
aw
or
أَمْسِكْ
amsik
withhold
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
حِسَابٍ
ḥisābin
account
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."

38:40
Ayah 38:40
وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
عِندَنَا
ʿindanā
with Us
لَزُلْفَىٰ
lazul'fā
surely is a near access
وَحُسْنَ
waḥus'na
and a good
مَـَٔابٍ
maābin
place of return
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.

38:41
Ayah 38:41
وَٱذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَآ أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ
وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kur
And remember
عَبْدَنَآ
ʿabdanā
Our slave
أَيُّوبَ
ayyūba
Ayyub
إِذْ
idh
when
نَادَىٰ
nādā
he called
رَبَّهُۥٓ
rabbahu
his Lord
أَنِّى
annī
That [I]
مَسَّنِىَ
massaniya
(has) touched me
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan
بِنُصْبٍ
binuṣ'bin
with distress
وَعَذَابٍ
waʿadhābin
and suffering
And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and torment."

38:42
Ayah 38:42
ٱرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَـٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ
ٱرْكُضْ
ur'kuḍ
Strike
بِرِجْلِكَ
birij'lika
with your foot
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
مُغْتَسَلٌۢ
mugh'tasalun
(is a spring of) water to bathe
بَارِدٌ
bāridun
cool
وَشَرَابٌ
washarābun
and a drink
[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for a] cool bath and drink."

38:43
Ayah 38:43
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
وَوَهَبْنَا
wawahabnā
And We granted
لَهُۥٓ
lahu
[to] him
أَهْلَهُۥ
ahlahu
his family
وَمِثْلَهُم
wamith'lahum
and a like of them
مَّعَهُمْ
maʿahum
with them
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
a Mercy
مِّنَّا
minnā
from Us
وَذِكْرَىٰ
wadhik'rā
and a Reminder
لِأُو۟لِى
li-ulī
for those of understanding
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
l-albābi
for those of understanding
And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.

38:44
Ayah 38:44
وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَٱضْرِب بِّهِۦ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَـٰهُ صَابِرًا ۚ نِّعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
وَخُذْ
wakhudh
And take
بِيَدِكَ
biyadika
in your hand
ضِغْثًا
ḍigh'than
a bunch
فَٱضْرِب
fa-iḍ'rib
and strike
بِّهِۦ
bihi
with it
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَحْنَثْ
taḥnath
break (your) oath
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, We
وَجَدْنَـٰهُ
wajadnāhu
[We] found him
صَابِرًا
ṣābiran
patient
نِّعْمَ
niʿ'ma
an excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ
l-ʿabdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahu
Indeed, he
أَوَّابٌ
awwābun
repeatedly turned
[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath."1 Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].

38:45
Ayah 38:45
وَٱذْكُرْ عِبَـٰدَنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُو۟لِى ٱلْأَيْدِى وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ
وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kur
And remember
عِبَـٰدَنَآ
ʿibādanā
Our slaves
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
وَإِسْحَـٰقَ
wa-is'ḥāqa
and Isaac
وَيَعْقُوبَ
wayaʿqūba
and Ayyub
أُو۟لِى
ulī
possessors
ٱلْأَيْدِى
l-aydī
(of) strength
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ
wal-abṣāri
and vision
And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision.

38:46
Ayah 38:46
إِنَّآ أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى ٱلدَّارِ
إِنَّآ
innā
Indeed, We
أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم
akhlaṣnāhum
[We] chose them
بِخَالِصَةٍ
bikhāliṣatin
for an exclusive (quality)
ذِكْرَى
dhik'rā
remembrance
ٱلدَّارِ
l-dāri
(of) the Home
Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].

38:47
Ayah 38:47
وَإِنَّهُمْ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ ٱلْأَخْيَارِ
وَإِنَّهُمْ
wa-innahum
And indeed, they
عِندَنَا
ʿindanā
to Us
لَمِنَ
lamina
(are) from
ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ
l-muṣ'ṭafayna
the chosen ones
ٱلْأَخْيَارِ
l-akhyāri
the best
And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.

38:48
Ayah 38:48
وَٱذْكُرْ إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَٱلْيَسَعَ وَذَا ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِّنَ ٱلْأَخْيَارِ
وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kur
And remember
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ
is'māʿīla
Ishmael
وَٱلْيَسَعَ
wal-yasaʿa
and Elisha
وَذَا
wadhā
and Dhul-kifl
ٱلْكِفْلِ
l-kif'li
and Dhul-kifl
وَكُلٌّ
wakullun
and all
مِّنَ
mina
(are) from
ٱلْأَخْيَارِ
l-akhyāri
the best
And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding.

38:49
Ayah 38:49
هَـٰذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
ذِكْرٌ
dhik'run
(is) a Reminder
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
lil'muttaqīna
for the righteous
لَحُسْنَ
laḥus'na
surely, is a good
مَـَٔابٍ
maābin
place of return
This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return -

38:50
Ayah 38:50
جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ
جَنَّـٰتِ
jannāti
Gardens
عَدْنٍ
ʿadnin
(of) Eternity
مُّفَتَّحَةً
mufattaḥatan
(will be) opened
لَّهُمُ
lahumu
for them
ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ
l-abwābu
the gates
Gardens of perpetual residence, whose doors will be opened to them.

38:51
Ayah 38:51
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ
muttakiīna
Reclining
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūna
they will call
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
بِفَـٰكِهَةٍ
bifākihatin
for fruit
كَثِيرَةٍ
kathīratin
many
وَشَرَابٍ
washarābin
and drink
Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.

38:52
Ayah 38:52
۞ وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ
وَعِندَهُمْ
waʿindahum
And with them
قَـٰصِرَٰتُ
qāṣirātu
(will be) companions of modest gaze
ٱلطَّرْفِ
l-ṭarfi
(will be) companions of modest gaze
أَتْرَابٌ
atrābun
well-matched
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances1 and of equal age.

38:53
Ayah 38:53
هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
مَا
(is) what
تُوعَدُونَ
tūʿadūna
you are promised
لِيَوْمِ
liyawmi
for (the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi
(of) Account
This is what you, [the righteous], are promised for the Day of Account.

38:54
Ayah 38:54
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُۥ مِن نَّفَادٍ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
لَرِزْقُنَا
lariz'qunā
(is) surely Our provision
مَا
not
لَهُۥ
lahu
for it
مِن
min
any
نَّفَادٍ
nafādin
depletion
Indeed, this is Our provision; for it there is no depletion.

38:55
Ayah 38:55
هَـٰذَا ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّـٰغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَـَٔابٍ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This (is so)
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لِلطَّـٰغِينَ
lilṭṭāghīna
for the transgressors
لَشَرَّ
lasharra
surely (is) an evil
مَـَٔابٍ
maābin
place of return
This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -

38:56
Ayah 38:56
جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
Hell
يَصْلَوْنَهَا
yaṣlawnahā
they will burn therein
فَبِئْسَ
fabi'sa
and wretched (is)
ٱلْمِهَادُ
l-mihādu
the resting place
Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place.

38:57
Ayah 38:57
هَـٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This (is so)
فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ
falyadhūqūhu
Then let them taste it
حَمِيمٌ
ḥamīmun
boiling fluid
وَغَسَّاقٌ
waghassāqun
and purulence
This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence.

38:58
Ayah 38:58
وَءَاخَرُ مِن شَكْلِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجٌ
وَءَاخَرُ
waākharu
And other
مِن
min
of
شَكْلِهِۦٓ
shaklihi
its type
أَزْوَٰجٌ
azwājun
(of various) kinds
And other [punishments] of its type [in various] kinds.

38:59
Ayah 38:59
هَـٰذَا فَوْجٌ مُّقْتَحِمٌ مَّعَكُمْ ۖ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُوا۟ ٱلنَّارِ
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
فَوْجٌ
fawjun
(is) a company
مُّقْتَحِمٌ
muq'taḥimun
bursting
مَّعَكُمْ
maʿakum
(in) with you
لَا
No
مَرْحَبًۢا
marḥaban
welcome
بِهِمْ
bihim
for them
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they
صَالُوا۟
ṣālū
(will) burn
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
(in) the Fire
[Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire."

38:60
Ayah 38:60
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ أَنتُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِكُمْ ۖ أَنتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ ٱلْقَرَارُ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They say
بَلْ
bal
Nay
أَنتُمْ
antum
You
لَا
no
مَرْحَبًۢا
marḥaban
welcome
بِكُمْ
bikum
for you
أَنتُمْ
antum
You
قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ
qaddamtumūhu
brought this
لَنَا
lanā
upon us
فَبِئْسَ
fabi'sa
So wretched (is)
ٱلْقَرَارُ
l-qarāru
the settlement
They will say, "Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement."

38:61
Ayah 38:61
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا مَن قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَـٰذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا فِى ٱلنَّارِ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They will say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
مَن
man
whoever
قَدَّمَ
qaddama
brought
لَنَا
lanā
upon us
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
فَزِدْهُ
fazid'hu
increase for him
عَذَابًا
ʿadhāban
a punishment
ضِعْفًا
ḍiʿ'fan
double
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire."

38:62
Ayah 38:62
وَقَالُوا۟ مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَشْرَارِ
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālū
And they (will) say
مَا
What (is)
لَنَا
lanā
for us
لَا
not
نَرَىٰ
narā
we see
رِجَالًا
rijālan
men
كُنَّا
kunnā
we used to
نَعُدُّهُم
naʿudduhum
count them
مِّنَ
mina
among
ٱلْأَشْرَارِ
l-ashrāri
the bad ones
And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?1

38:63
Ayah 38:63
أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ
أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ
attakhadhnāhum
Did we take them
سِخْرِيًّا
sikh'riyyan
(in) ridicule
أَمْ
am
or
زَاغَتْ
zāghat
has turned away
عَنْهُمُ
ʿanhumu
from them
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ
l-abṣāru
the vision
Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?"

38:64
Ayah 38:64
إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ ٱلنَّارِ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَحَقٌّ
laḥaqqun
(is) surely (the) truth
تَخَاصُمُ
takhāṣumu
(the) quarreling
أَهْلِ
ahli
(of the) people
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
(of) the Fire
Indeed, that is truth [i.e., reality] - the quarreling of the people of the Fire.

38:65
Ayah 38:65
قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَـٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّارُ
قُلْ
qul
Say
إِنَّمَآ
innamā
Only
أَنَا۠
anā
I am
مُنذِرٌ
mundhirun
a warner
وَمَا
wamā
and not
مِنْ
min
(is there) any
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhin
god
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْوَٰحِدُ
l-wāḥidu
the One
ٱلْقَهَّارُ
l-qahāru
the Irresistible
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,1

38:66
Ayah 38:66
رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ
رَبُّ
rabbu
Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā
(is) between them
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty
ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ
l-ghafāru
the Oft-Forgiving
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might,1 the Perpetual Forgiver."2

38:67
Ayah 38:67
قُلْ هُوَ نَبَؤٌا۟ عَظِيمٌ
قُلْ
qul
Say
هُوَ
huwa
It (is)
نَبَؤٌا۟
naba-on
a news
عَظِيمٌ
ʿaẓīmun
great
Say, "It is great news

38:68
Ayah 38:68
أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ
أَنتُمْ
antum
You
عَنْهُ
ʿanhu
from it
مُعْرِضُونَ
muʿ'riḍūna
turn away
From which you turn away.

38:69
Ayah 38:69
مَا كَانَ لِىَ مِنْ عِلْمٍۭ بِٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ
مَا
Not
كَانَ
kāna
is
لِىَ
liya
for me
مِنْ
min
any
عِلْمٍۭ
ʿil'min
knowledge
بِٱلْمَلَإِ
bil-mala-i
(of) the chiefs
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ
l-aʿlā
the exalted
إِذْ
idh
when
يَخْتَصِمُونَ
yakhtaṣimūna
they were disputing
I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].

38:70
Ayah 38:70
إِن يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ إِلَّآ أَنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
إِن
in
Not
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥā
has been revealed
إِلَىَّ
ilayya
to me
إِلَّآ
illā
except
أَنَّمَآ
annamā
that only
أَنَا۠
anā
I am
نَذِيرٌ
nadhīrun
a warner
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
It has not been revealed to me except that I am a clear warner."

38:71
Ayah 38:71
إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن طِينٍ
إِذْ
idh
When
قَالَ
qāla
said
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka
your Lord
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikati
to the Angels
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I Am
خَـٰلِقٌۢ
khāliqun
going to create
بَشَرًا
basharan
a human being
مِّن
min
from
طِينٍ
ṭīnin
clay
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.

38:72
Ayah 38:72
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
So when
سَوَّيْتُهُۥ
sawwaytuhu
I have proportioned him
وَنَفَخْتُ
wanafakhtu
and breathed
فِيهِ
fīhi
into him
مِن
min
of
رُّوحِى
rūḥī
My spirit
فَقَعُوا۟
faqaʿū
then fall down
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
سَـٰجِدِينَ
sājidīna
prostrating
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul,1 then fall down to him in prostration."

38:73
Ayah 38:73
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ
فَسَجَدَ
fasajada
So prostrated
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
l-malāikatu
the Angels
كُلُّهُمْ
kulluhum
all of them
أَجْمَعُونَ
ajmaʿūna
together
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

38:74
Ayah 38:74
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ ٱسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
إِلَّآ
illā
Except
إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsa
Iblis
ٱسْتَكْبَرَ
is'takbara
he was arrogant
وَكَانَ
wakāna
and became
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
Except Iblees;1 he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.

38:75
Ayah 38:75
قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَىَّ ۖ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْعَالِينَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ
yāib'līsu
O Iblis
مَا
What
مَنَعَكَ
manaʿaka
prevented you
أَن
an
that
تَسْجُدَ
tasjuda
you (should) prostrate
لِمَا
limā
to (one) whom
خَلَقْتُ
khalaqtu
I created
بِيَدَىَّ
biyadayya
with My Hands
أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ
astakbarta
Are you arrogant
أَمْ
am
or
كُنتَ
kunta
are you
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْعَالِينَ
l-ʿālīna
the exalted ones
[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands?1 Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"

38:76
Ayah 38:76
قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ ۖ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
أَنَا۠
anā
I am
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
better
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
than him
خَلَقْتَنِى
khalaqtanī
You created me
مِن
min
from
نَّارٍ
nārin
fire
وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ
wakhalaqtahu
and You created him
مِن
min
from
طِينٍ
ṭīnin
clay
He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."

38:77
Ayah 38:77
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَٱخْرُجْ
fa-ukh'ruj
Then get out
مِنْهَا
min'hā
of it
فَإِنَّكَ
fa-innaka
for indeed, you
رَجِيمٌ
rajīmun
(are) accursed
[Allāh] said, "Then get out of it [i.e., Paradise], for indeed, you are expelled.

38:78
Ayah 38:78
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
upon you
لَعْنَتِىٓ
laʿnatī
(is) My curse
إِلَىٰ
ilā
until
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīni
(of) Judgment
And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense."

38:79
Ayah 38:79
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ
fa-anẓir'nī
Then give me respite
إِلَىٰ
ilā
until
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ
yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

38:80
Ayah 38:80
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَإِنَّكَ
fa-innaka
Then indeed, you
مِنَ
mina
(are) of
ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
l-munẓarīna
those given respite
[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

38:81
Ayah 38:81
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ
إِلَىٰ
ilā
Until
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) Day
ٱلْوَقْتِ
l-waqti
(of) the time
ٱلْمَعْلُومِ
l-maʿlūmi
well-known
Until the Day of the time well-known."

38:82
Ayah 38:82
قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَبِعِزَّتِكَ
fabiʿizzatika
Then by Your might
لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ
la-ugh'wiyannahum
I will surely mislead them
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīna
all
[Iblees] said, "By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.

38:83
Ayah 38:83
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
عِبَادَكَ
ʿibādaka
Your slaves
مِنْهُمُ
min'humu
among them
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

38:84
Ayah 38:84
قَالَ فَٱلْحَقُّ وَٱلْحَقَّ أَقُولُ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
فَٱلْحَقُّ
fal-ḥaqu
Then (it is) the truth
وَٱلْحَقَّ
wal-ḥaqa
and the truth
أَقُولُ
aqūlu
I say
[Allāh] said, "The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say -

38:85
Ayah 38:85
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ
la-amla-anna
Surely I will fill
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
Hell
مِنكَ
minka
with you
وَمِمَّن
wamimman
and those who
تَبِعَكَ
tabiʿaka
follow you
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
among them
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīna
all
[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."

38:86
Ayah 38:86
قُلْ مَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
قُلْ
qul
Say
مَآ
Not
أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ
asalukum
I ask of you
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for it
مِنْ
min
any
أَجْرٍ
ajrin
payment
وَمَآ
wamā
and not
أَنَا۠
anā
I am
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
l-mutakalifīna
the ones who pretend
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., the Qur’ān] any payment, and I am not of the pretentious.

38:87
Ayah 38:87
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
إِنْ
in
Not
هُوَ
huwa
it (is)
إِلَّا
illā
except
ذِكْرٌ
dhik'run
a Reminder
لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
lil'ʿālamīna
to the worlds
It is but a reminder to the worlds.

38:88
Ayah 38:88
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُۥ بَعْدَ حِينٍۭ
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ
walataʿlamunna
And surely you will know
نَبَأَهُۥ
naba-ahu
its information
بَعْدَ
baʿda
after
حِينٍۭ
ḥīnin
a time
And you will surely know [the truth of] its information after a time."
