Ayah 40:2
تَنزِيلُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ
تَنزِيلُ
tanzīlu
(The) revelation
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi
(of) the Book
مِنَ
mina
(is) from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty
ٱلْعَلِيمِ
l-ʿalīmi
the All-Knower
The revelation of the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] is from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Knowing,

40:3
Ayah 40:3
غَافِرِ ٱلذَّنۢبِ وَقَابِلِ ٱلتَّوْبِ شَدِيدِ ٱلْعِقَابِ ذِى ٱلطَّوْلِ ۖ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ إِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
غَافِرِ
ghāfiri
(The) Forgiver
ٱلذَّنۢبِ
l-dhanbi
(of) the sin
وَقَابِلِ
waqābili
and (the) Acceptor
ٱلتَّوْبِ
l-tawbi
(of) [the] repentance
شَدِيدِ
shadīdi
severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ
l-ʿiqābi
(in) the punishment
ذِى
dhī
Owner (of) the abundance
ٱلطَّوْلِ
l-ṭawli
Owner (of) the abundance
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
except
هُوَ
huwa
Him
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to Him
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
l-maṣīru
(is) the final return
The forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination.

40:4
Ayah 40:4
مَا يُجَـٰدِلُ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَلَا يَغْرُرْكَ تَقَلُّبُهُمْ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
مَا
Not
يُجَـٰدِلُ
yujādilu
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
فَلَا
falā
so (let) not
يَغْرُرْكَ
yaghrur'ka
deceive you
تَقَلُّبُهُمْ
taqallubuhum
their movement
فِى
in
ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
l-bilādi
the cities
No one disputes concerning the signs of Allāh except those who disbelieve, so be not deceived by their [uninhibited] movement throughout the land.

40:5
Ayah 40:5
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَٱلْأَحْزَابُ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۖ وَهَمَّتْ كُلُّ أُمَّةٍۭ بِرَسُولِهِمْ لِيَأْخُذُوهُ ۖ وَجَـٰدَلُوا۟ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا۟ بِهِ ٱلْحَقَّ فَأَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ
كَذَّبَتْ
kadhabat
Denied
قَبْلَهُمْ
qablahum
before them
قَوْمُ
qawmu
(the) people
نُوحٍ
nūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَٱلْأَحْزَابُ
wal-aḥzābu
and the factions
مِنۢ
min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihim
after them
وَهَمَّتْ
wahammat
and plotted
كُلُّ
kullu
every
أُمَّةٍۭ
ummatin
nation
بِرَسُولِهِمْ
birasūlihim
against their Messenger
لِيَأْخُذُوهُ
liyakhudhūhu
to seize him
وَجَـٰدَلُوا۟
wajādalū
and they disputed
بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ
bil-bāṭili
by falsehood
لِيُدْحِضُوا۟
liyud'ḥiḍū
to refute
بِهِ
bihi
thereby
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa
the truth
فَأَخَذْتُهُمْ
fa-akhadhtuhum
So I seized them
فَكَيْفَ
fakayfa
Then how
كَانَ
kāna
was
عِقَابِ
ʿiqābi
My penalty
The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

40:6
Ayah 40:6
وَكَذَٰلِكَ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
حَقَّتْ
ḥaqqat
has been justified
كَلِمَتُ
kalimatu
(the) Word
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
عَلَى
ʿalā
against
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟
kafarū
disbelieved
أَنَّهُمْ
annahum
that they
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu
(are) companions
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
(of) the Fire
And thus has the word [i.e., decree] of your Lord come into effect upon those who disbelieved that they are companions of the Fire.

40:7
Ayah 40:7
ٱلَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ ٱلْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ رَبَّنَا وَسِعْتَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ رَّحْمَةً وَعِلْمًا فَٱغْفِرْ لِلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ سَبِيلَكَ وَقِهِمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
يَحْمِلُونَ
yaḥmilūna
bear
ٱلْعَرْشَ
l-ʿarsha
the Throne
وَمَنْ
waman
and who
حَوْلَهُۥ
ḥawlahu
(are) around it
يُسَبِّحُونَ
yusabbiḥūna
glorify
بِحَمْدِ
biḥamdi
(the) praises
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَيُؤْمِنُونَ
wayu'minūna
and believe
بِهِۦ
bihi
in Him
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
wayastaghfirūna
and ask forgiveness
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
for those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
وَسِعْتَ
wasiʿ'ta
You encompass
كُلَّ
kulla
all
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
رَّحْمَةً
raḥmatan
(by Your) Mercy
وَعِلْمًا
waʿil'man
and knowledge
فَٱغْفِرْ
fa-igh'fir
so forgive
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
those who
تَابُوا۟
tābū
repent
وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟
wa-ittabaʿū
and follow
سَبِيلَكَ
sabīlaka
Your Way
وَقِهِمْ
waqihim
and save them (from)
عَذَابَ
ʿadhāba
(the) punishment
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allāh] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed, [saying], "Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.

40:8
Ayah 40:8
رَبَّنَا وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ ٱلَّتِى وَعَدتَّهُمْ وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ ءَابَآئِهِمْ وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
رَبَّنَا
rabbanā
Our Lord
وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ
wa-adkhil'hum
And admit them
جَنَّـٰتِ
jannāti
(to) Gardens
عَدْنٍ
ʿadnin
(of) Eden
ٱلَّتِى
allatī
which
وَعَدتَّهُمْ
waʿadttahum
You have promised them
وَمَن
waman
and whoever
صَلَحَ
ṣalaḥa
(was) righteous
مِنْ
min
among
ءَابَآئِهِمْ
ābāihim
their fathers
وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ
wa-azwājihim
and their spouses
وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ
wadhurriyyātihim
and their offspring
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed You
أَنتَ
anta
You
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzu
(are) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ
l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

40:9
Ayah 40:9
وَقِهِمُ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ وَمَن تَقِ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمْتَهُۥ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
وَقِهِمُ
waqihimu
And protect them
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
l-sayiāti
(from) the evils
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
تَقِ
taqi
you protect
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
l-sayiāti
(from) the evils
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
فَقَدْ
faqad
then verily
رَحِمْتَهُۥ
raḥim'tahu
You have bestowed mercy on him
وَذَٰلِكَ
wadhālika
And that
هُوَ
huwa
[it]
ٱلْفَوْزُ
l-fawzu
(is) the success
ٱلْعَظِيمُ
l-ʿaẓīmu
the great
And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment."

40:10
Ayah 40:10
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُنَادَوْنَ لَمَقْتُ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ مِن مَّقْتِكُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ إِذْ تُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ فَتَكْفُرُونَ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieved
يُنَادَوْنَ
yunādawna
will be cried out to them
لَمَقْتُ
lamaqtu
Certainly Allah's hatred
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Certainly Allah's hatred
أَكْبَرُ
akbaru
(was) greater
مِن
min
than
مَّقْتِكُمْ
maqtikum
your hatred
أَنفُسَكُمْ
anfusakum
(of) yourselves
إِذْ
idh
when
تُدْعَوْنَ
tud'ʿawna
you were called
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ
l-īmāni
the faith
فَتَكْفُرُونَ
fatakfurūna
and you disbelieved
Indeed, those who disbelieve will be addressed, "The hatred of Allāh for you was [even] greater than your hatred of yourselves [this Day in Hell] when you were invited to faith, but you disbelieved [i.e., refused]."

40:11
Ayah 40:11
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَمَتَّنَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ فَٱعْتَرَفْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلْ إِلَىٰ خُرُوجٍ مِّن سَبِيلٍ
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They (will) say
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
أَمَتَّنَا
amattanā
You gave us death
ٱثْنَتَيْنِ
ith'natayni
twice
وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا
wa-aḥyaytanā
and You gave us life
ٱثْنَتَيْنِ
ith'natayni
twice
فَٱعْتَرَفْنَا
fa-iʿ'tarafnā
and we confess
بِذُنُوبِنَا
bidhunūbinā
our sins
فَهَلْ
fahal
So is (there)
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
خُرُوجٍ
khurūjin
get out
مِّن
min
any
سَبِيلٍ
sabīlin
way
They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way?"

40:12
Ayah 40:12
ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّهُۥٓ إِذَا دُعِىَ ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُۥ كَفَرْتُمْ ۖ وَإِن يُشْرَكْ بِهِۦ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚ فَٱلْحُكْمُ لِلَّهِ ٱلْعَلِىِّ ٱلْكَبِيرِ
ذَٰلِكُم
dhālikum
That
بِأَنَّهُۥٓ
bi-annahu
(is) because
إِذَا
idhā
when
دُعِىَ
duʿiya
Allah was invoked
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah was invoked
وَحْدَهُۥ
waḥdahu
Alone
كَفَرْتُمْ
kafartum
you disbelieved
وَإِن
wa-in
but if
يُشْرَكْ
yush'rak
(others) were associated
بِهِۦ
bihi
with Him
تُؤْمِنُوا۟
tu'minū
you believed
فَٱلْحُكْمُ
fal-ḥuk'mu
So the judgment
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
(is) with Allah
ٱلْعَلِىِّ
l-ʿaliyi
the Most High
ٱلْكَبِيرِ
l-kabīri
the Most Great
[They will be told], "That is because, when Allāh was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allāh, the Most High, the Grand."

40:13
Ayah 40:13
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُرِيكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقًا ۚ وَمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ إِلَّا مَن يُنِيبُ
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُرِيكُمْ
yurīkum
shows you
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ
āyātihi
His Signs
وَيُنَزِّلُ
wayunazzilu
and sends down
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
رِزْقًا
riz'qan
provision
وَمَا
wamā
But (does) not
يَتَذَكَّرُ
yatadhakkaru
take heed
إِلَّا
illā
except
مَن
man
(one) who
يُنِيبُ
yunību
turns
It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance].

40:14
Ayah 40:14
فَٱدْعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
فَٱدْعُوا۟
fa-id'ʿū
So invoke
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
مُخْلِصِينَ
mukh'liṣīna
(being) sincere
لَهُ
lahu
to Him
ٱلدِّينَ
l-dīna
(in) the religion
وَلَوْ
walaw
even though
كَرِهَ
kariha
dislike (it)
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
So invoke Allāh, [being] sincere to Him in religion, although the disbelievers dislike it.

40:15
Ayah 40:15
رَفِيعُ ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتِ ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ يُلْقِى ٱلرُّوحَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ لِيُنذِرَ يَوْمَ ٱلتَّلَاقِ
رَفِيعُ
rafīʿu
Possessor of the Highest Ranks
ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتِ
l-darajāti
Possessor of the Highest Ranks
ذُو
dhū
Owner (of) the Throne
ٱلْعَرْشِ
l-ʿarshi
Owner (of) the Throne
يُلْقِى
yul'qī
He places
ٱلرُّوحَ
l-rūḥa
the inspiration
مِنْ
min
of
أَمْرِهِۦ
amrihi
His Command
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِهِۦ
ʿibādihi
His slaves
لِيُنذِرَ
liyundhira
to warn
يَوْمَ
yawma
(of the) Day
ٱلتَّلَاقِ
l-talāqi
(of) the Meeting
[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne; He places the inspiration of His command [i.e., revelation] upon whom He wills of His servants to warn of the Day of Meeting.

40:16
Ayah 40:16
يَوْمَ هُم بَـٰرِزُونَ ۖ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ شَىْءٌ ۚ لِّمَنِ ٱلْمُلْكُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
يَوْمَ
yawma
(The) Day
هُم
hum
they
بَـٰرِزُونَ
bārizūna
come forth
لَا
not
يَخْفَىٰ
yakhfā
is hidden
عَلَى
ʿalā
from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
about them
شَىْءٌ
shayon
anything
لِّمَنِ
limani
For whom
ٱلْمُلْكُ
l-mul'ku
(is) the Dominion
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
this Day
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
For Allah
ٱلْوَٰحِدِ
l-wāḥidi
the One
ٱلْقَهَّارِ
l-qahāri
the Irresistible
The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allāh. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allāh, the One, the Prevailing.1

40:17
Ayah 40:17
ٱلْيَوْمَ تُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۚ لَا ظُلْمَ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
ٱلْيَوْمَ
al-yawma
This Day
تُجْزَىٰ
tuj'zā
will be recompensed
كُلُّ
kullu
every
نَفْسٍۭ
nafsin
soul
بِمَا
bimā
for what
كَسَبَتْ
kasabat
it earned
لَا
No
ظُلْمَ
ẓul'ma
injustice
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
سَرِيعُ
sarīʿu
(is) Swift
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi
(in) Account
This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today! Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.

40:18
Ayah 40:18
وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةِ إِذِ ٱلْقُلُوبُ لَدَى ٱلْحَنَاجِرِ كَـٰظِمِينَ ۚ مَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَلَا شَفِيعٍ يُطَاعُ
وَأَنذِرْهُمْ
wa-andhir'hum
And warn them
يَوْمَ
yawma
(of the) Day
ٱلْـَٔازِفَةِ
l-āzifati
the Approaching
إِذِ
idhi
when
ٱلْقُلُوبُ
l-qulūbu
the hearts
لَدَى
ladā
(are) at
ٱلْحَنَاجِرِ
l-ḥanājiri
the throats
كَـٰظِمِينَ
kāẓimīna
choked
مَا
Not
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers
مِنْ
min
any
حَمِيمٍ
ḥamīmin
intimate friend
وَلَا
walā
and no
شَفِيعٍ
shafīʿin
intercessor
يُطَاعُ
yuṭāʿu
(who) is obeyed
And warn them, [O Muḥammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.

40:19
Ayah 40:19
يَعْلَمُ خَآئِنَةَ ٱلْأَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِى ٱلصُّدُورُ
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
He knows
خَآئِنَةَ
khāinata
(the) stealthy glance
ٱلْأَعْيُنِ
l-aʿyuni
(the) stealthy glance
وَمَا
wamā
and what
تُخْفِى
tukh'fī
conceal
ٱلصُّدُورُ
l-ṣudūru
the breasts
He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal.

40:20
Ayah 40:20
وَٱللَّهُ يَقْضِى بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَىْءٍ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
يَقْضِى
yaqḍī
judges
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
while those (whom)
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūna
they invoke
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihi
besides Him
لَا
not
يَقْضُونَ
yaqḍūna
they judge
بِشَىْءٍ
bishayin
with anything
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
l-samīʿu
(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْبَصِيرُ
l-baṣīru
the All-Seer
And Allāh judges with truth, while those they invoke1 besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, Allāh - He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

40:21
Ayah 40:21
۞ أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَءَاثَارًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍ
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Do not
يَسِيرُوا۟
yasīrū
they travel
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟
fayanẓurū
and see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
كَانَ
kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
كَانُوا۟
kānū
were
مِن
min
before them
قَبْلِهِمْ
qablihim
before them
كَانُوا۟
kānū
They were
هُمْ
hum
[they]
أَشَدَّ
ashadda
superior
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
to them
قُوَّةً
quwwatan
(in) strength
وَءَاثَارًا
waāthāran
and (in) impressions
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
فَأَخَذَهُمُ
fa-akhadhahumu
but Allah seized them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
but Allah seized them
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ
bidhunūbihim
for their sins
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كَانَ
kāna
was
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّنَ
mina
against
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مِن
min
any
وَاقٍ
wāqin
protector
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allāh seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allāh any protector.

40:22
Ayah 40:22
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَكَفَرُوا۟ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum
(was) because [they]
كَانَت
kānat
used to come to them
تَّأْتِيهِمْ
tatīhim
used to come to them
رُسُلُهُم
rusuluhum
their Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَكَفَرُوا۟
fakafarū
but they disbelieved
فَأَخَذَهُمُ
fa-akhadhahumu
So Allah seized them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
So Allah seized them
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
قَوِىٌّ
qawiyyun
(is) All-Strong
شَدِيدُ
shadīdu
severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ
l-ʿiqābi
(in) punishment
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allāh seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.

40:23
Ayah 40:23
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And certainly
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
We sent
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātinā
with Our Signs
وَسُلْطَـٰنٍ
wasul'ṭānin
and an authority
مُّبِينٍ
mubīnin
clear
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority1

40:24
Ayah 40:24
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَقَـٰرُونَ فَقَالُوا۟ سَـٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ
إِلَىٰ
ilā
To
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ
wahāmāna
Haman
وَقَـٰرُونَ
waqārūna
and Qarun
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālū
but they said
سَـٰحِرٌ
sāḥirun
A magician
كَذَّابٌ
kadhābun
a liar
To Pharaoh, Hāmān and Qārūn, but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar."

40:25
Ayah 40:25
فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُوا۟ ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَبْنَآءَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ وَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟ نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَمَا كَيْدُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
Then when
جَآءَهُم
jāahum
he brought to them
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
the truth
مِنْ
min
from
عِندِنَا
ʿindinā
Us
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they said
ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟
uq'tulū
Kill
أَبْنَآءَ
abnāa
(the) sons
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahu
with him
وَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟
wa-is'taḥyū
and let live
نِسَآءَهُمْ
nisāahum
their women
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَيْدُ
kaydu
(is the) plot
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
إِلَّا
illā
but
فِى
in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
ḍalālin
error
And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.

40:26
Ayah 40:26
وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ ذَرُونِىٓ أَقْتُلْ مُوسَىٰ وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّهُۥٓ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُبَدِّلَ دِينَكُمْ أَوْ أَن يُظْهِرَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْفَسَادَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
ذَرُونِىٓ
dharūnī
Leave me
أَقْتُلْ
aqtul
(so that) I kill
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
Musa
وَلْيَدْعُ
walyadʿu
and let him call
رَبَّهُۥٓ
rabbahu
his Lord
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أَخَافُ
akhāfu
[I] fear
أَن
an
that
يُبَدِّلَ
yubaddila
he will change
دِينَكُمْ
dīnakum
your religion
أَوْ
aw
or
أَن
an
that
يُظْهِرَ
yuẓ'hira
he may cause to appear
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
ٱلْفَسَادَ
l-fasāda
the corruption
And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption1 in the land."

40:27
Ayah 40:27
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُم مِّن كُلِّ مُتَكَبِّرٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā
Musa
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
عُذْتُ
ʿudh'tu
[I] seek refuge
بِرَبِّى
birabbī
in my Lord
وَرَبِّكُم
warabbikum
and your Lord
مِّن
min
from
كُلِّ
kulli
every
مُتَكَبِّرٍ
mutakabbirin
arrogant one
لَّا
not
يُؤْمِنُ
yu'minu
who believes
بِيَوْمِ
biyawmi
(in the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi
(of) the Account
But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account."

40:28
Ayah 40:28
وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مُّؤْمِنٌ مِّنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَكْتُمُ إِيمَـٰنَهُۥٓ أَتَقْتُلُونَ رَجُلًا أَن يَقُولَ رَبِّىَ ٱللَّهُ وَقَدْ جَآءَكُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَكُ كَـٰذِبًا فَعَلَيْهِ كَذِبُهُۥ ۖ وَإِن يَكُ صَادِقًا يُصِبْكُم بَعْضُ ٱلَّذِى يَعِدُكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌ كَذَّابٌ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
رَجُلٌ
rajulun
a man
مُّؤْمِنٌ
mu'minun
believing
مِّنْ
min
from
ءَالِ
āli
(the) family
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
يَكْتُمُ
yaktumu
who conceal(ed)
إِيمَـٰنَهُۥٓ
īmānahu
his faith
أَتَقْتُلُونَ
ataqtulūna
Will you kill
رَجُلًا
rajulan
a man
أَن
an
because
يَقُولَ
yaqūla
he says
رَبِّىَ
rabbiya
My Lord
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
وَقَدْ
waqad
and indeed
جَآءَكُم
jāakum
he has brought you
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayināti
clear proofs
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikum
your Lord
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
يَكُ
yaku
he is
كَـٰذِبًا
kādhiban
a liar
فَعَلَيْهِ
faʿalayhi
then upon him
كَذِبُهُۥ
kadhibuhu
(is) his lie
وَإِن
wa-in
and if
يَكُ
yaku
he is
صَادِقًا
ṣādiqan
truthful
يُصِبْكُم
yuṣib'kum
(there) will strike you
بَعْضُ
baʿḍu
some (of)
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(that) which
يَعِدُكُمْ
yaʿidukum
he threatens you
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يَهْدِى
yahdī
guide
مَنْ
man
(one) who
هُوَ
huwa
[he]
مُسْرِفٌ
mus'rifun
(is) a transgressor
كَذَّابٌ
kadhābun
a liar
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allāh' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allāh does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.

40:29
Ayah 40:29
يَـٰقَوْمِ لَكُمُ ٱلْمُلْكُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ظَـٰهِرِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَمَن يَنصُرُنَا مِنۢ بَأْسِ ٱللَّهِ إِن جَآءَنَا ۚ قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ مَآ أُرِيكُمْ إِلَّا مَآ أَرَىٰ وَمَآ أَهْدِيكُمْ إِلَّا سَبِيلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
لَكُمُ
lakumu
For you
ٱلْمُلْكُ
l-mul'ku
(is) the kingdom
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
ظَـٰهِرِينَ
ẓāhirīna
dominant
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
فَمَن
faman
but who
يَنصُرُنَا
yanṣurunā
will help us
مِنۢ
min
from
بَأْسِ
basi
(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِن
in
if
جَآءَنَا
jāanā
it came to us
قَالَ
qāla
Said
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
مَآ
Not
أُرِيكُمْ
urīkum
I show you
إِلَّا
illā
except
مَآ
what
أَرَىٰ
arā
I see
وَمَآ
wamā
and not
أَهْدِيكُمْ
ahdīkum
I guide you
إِلَّا
illā
except
سَبِيلَ
sabīla
(to the) path
ٱلرَّشَادِ
l-rashādi
the right
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allāh if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."

40:30
Ayah 40:30
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَامَنَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُم مِّثْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī
(he) who
ءَامَنَ
āmana
believed
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed I
أَخَافُ
akhāfu
[I] fear
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykum
for you
مِّثْلَ
mith'la
like
يَوْمِ
yawmi
(the) day
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
l-aḥzābi
(of) the companies
And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies1 -

40:31
Ayah 40:31
مِثْلَ دَأْبِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلْمًا لِّلْعِبَادِ
مِثْلَ
mith'la
Like
دَأْبِ
dabi
(the) plight
قَوْمِ
qawmi
(of the) people
نُوحٍ
nūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَعَادٍ
waʿādin
and Aad
وَثَمُودَ
wathamūda
and Thamud
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
and those
مِنۢ
min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihim
after them
وَمَا
wamā
And Allah (does) not
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
And Allah (does) not
يُرِيدُ
yurīdu
want
ظُلْمًا
ẓul'man
injustice
لِّلْعِبَادِ
lil'ʿibādi
for (His) slaves
Like the custom of the people of Noah and of ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them. And Allāh wants no injustice for [His] servants.

40:32
Ayah 40:32
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلتَّنَادِ
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ
wayāqawmi
And O my people
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أَخَافُ
akhāfu
[I] fear
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykum
for you
يَوْمَ
yawma
(the) Day
ٱلتَّنَادِ
l-tanādi
(of) Calling
And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling1 -

40:33
Ayah 40:33
يَوْمَ تُوَلُّونَ مُدْبِرِينَ مَا لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍ ۗ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْ هَادٍ
يَوْمَ
yawma
A Day
تُوَلُّونَ
tuwallūna
you will turn back
مُدْبِرِينَ
mud'birīna
fleeing
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مِنْ
min
any
عَاصِمٍ
ʿāṣimin
protector
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يُضْلِلِ
yuḍ'lili
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا
famā
then not
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
مِنْ
min
any
هَادٍ
hādin
guide
The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allāh any protector. And whoever Allāh sends astray - there is not for him any guide.

40:34
Ayah 40:34
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ يُوسُفُ مِن قَبْلُ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا زِلْتُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّمَّا جَآءَكُم بِهِۦ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلْتُمْ لَن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ رَسُولًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌ مُّرْتَابٌ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And indeed
جَآءَكُمْ
jāakum
came to you
يُوسُفُ
yūsufu
Yusuf
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَمَا
famā
but not
زِلْتُمْ
zil'tum
you ceased
فِى
in
شَكٍّ
shakkin
doubt
مِّمَّا
mimmā
about what
جَآءَكُم
jāakum
he brought to you
بِهِۦ
bihi
[with it]
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَا
idhā
when
هَلَكَ
halaka
he died
قُلْتُمْ
qul'tum
you said
لَن
lan
Never
يَبْعَثَ
yabʿatha
will Allah raise
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
will Allah raise
مِنۢ
min
after him
بَعْدِهِۦ
baʿdihi
after him
رَسُولًا
rasūlan
a Messenger
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
يُضِلُّ
yuḍillu
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
مَنْ
man
who
هُوَ
huwa
[he]
مُسْرِفٌ
mus'rifun
(is) a transgressor
مُّرْتَابٌ
mur'tābun
a doubter
And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allāh send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allāh leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."

40:35
Ayah 40:35
ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَـٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمْ ۖ كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ قَلْبِ مُتَكَبِّرٍ جَبَّارٍ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
يُجَـٰدِلُونَ
yujādilūna
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
سُلْطَـٰنٍ
sul'ṭānin
any authority
أَتَىٰهُمْ
atāhum
(having) come to them
كَبُرَ
kabura
(it) is greatly
مَقْتًا
maqtan
hateful
عِندَ
ʿinda
near Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
near Allah
وَعِندَ
waʿinda
and near
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
who believe
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
يَطْبَعُ
yaṭbaʿu
Allah sets a seal
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah sets a seal
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
over
كُلِّ
kulli
every
قَلْبِ
qalbi
heart
مُتَكَبِّرٍ
mutakabbirin
(of) an arrogant
جَبَّارٍ
jabbārin
tyrant
Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without an authority1 having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allāh and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allāh seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.

40:36
Ayah 40:36
وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ ٱبْنِ لِى صَرْحًا لَّعَلِّىٓ أَبْلُغُ ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnu
Firaun
يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ
yāhāmānu
O Haman
ٱبْنِ
ib'ni
Construct
لِى
for me
صَرْحًا
ṣarḥan
a tower
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallī
that I may
أَبْلُغُ
ablughu
reach
ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبَ
l-asbāba
the ways
And Pharaoh said, "O Hāmān, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways1 -

40:37
Ayah 40:37
أَسْبَـٰبَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ فَأَطَّلِعَ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُۥ كَـٰذِبًا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَصُدَّ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۚ وَمَا كَيْدُ فِرْعَوْنَ إِلَّا فِى تَبَابٍ
أَسْبَـٰبَ
asbāba
(The) ways
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(to) the heavens
فَأَطَّلِعَ
fa-aṭṭaliʿa
so I may look
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
at
إِلَـٰهِ
ilāhi
(the) God
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā
(of) Musa
وَإِنِّى
wa-innī
and indeed, I
لَأَظُنُّهُۥ
la-aẓunnuhu
[I] surely think him
كَـٰذِبًا
kādhiban
(to be) a liar
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
زُيِّنَ
zuyyina
was made fair-seeming
لِفِرْعَوْنَ
lifir'ʿawna
to Firaun
سُوٓءُ
sūu
(the) evil
عَمَلِهِۦ
ʿamalihi
(of) his deed
وَصُدَّ
waṣudda
and he was averted
عَنِ
ʿani
from
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
l-sabīli
the way
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَيْدُ
kaydu
(was the) plot
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
إِلَّا
illā
except
فِى
in
تَبَابٍ
tabābin
ruin
The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.

40:38
Ayah 40:38
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَامَنَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُونِ أَهْدِكُمْ سَبِيلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī
the one who
ءَامَنَ
āmana
believed
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
ٱتَّبِعُونِ
ittabiʿūni
Follow me
أَهْدِكُمْ
ahdikum
I will guide you
سَبِيلَ
sabīla
(to the) way
ٱلرَّشَادِ
l-rashādi
the right
And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me; I will guide you to the way of right conduct.

40:39
Ayah 40:39
يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَتَـٰعٌ وَإِنَّ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ هِىَ دَارُ ٱلْقَرَارِ
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihi
this
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
l-ḥayatu
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
مَتَـٰعٌ
matāʿun
(is) enjoyment
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
and indeed
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
l-ākhirata
the Hereafter
هِىَ
hiya
it
دَارُ
dāru
(is the) home
ٱلْقَرَارِ
l-qarāri
(of) settlement
O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter - that is the home of [permanent] settlement.

40:40
Ayah 40:40
مَنْ عَمِلَ سَيِّئَةً فَلَا يُجْزَىٰٓ إِلَّا مِثْلَهَا ۖ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ يُرْزَقُونَ فِيهَا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
مَنْ
man
Whoever
عَمِلَ
ʿamila
does
سَيِّئَةً
sayyi-atan
an evil
فَلَا
falā
then not
يُجْزَىٰٓ
yuj'zā
he will be recompensed
إِلَّا
illā
but
مِثْلَهَا
mith'lahā
(the) like thereof
وَمَنْ
waman
and whoever
عَمِلَ
ʿamila
does
صَـٰلِحًا
ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
مِّن
min
of
ذَكَرٍ
dhakarin
male
أَوْ
aw
or
أُنثَىٰ
unthā
female
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
while he
مُؤْمِنٌ
mu'minun
(is) a believer
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāika
then those
يَدْخُلُونَ
yadkhulūna
will enter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janata
Paradise
يُرْزَقُونَ
yur'zaqūna
they will be given provision
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
حِسَابٍ
ḥisābin
account
Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.

40:41
Ayah 40:41
۞ وَيَـٰقَوْمِ مَا لِىٓ أَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى ٱلنَّجَوٰةِ وَتَدْعُونَنِىٓ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ
wayāqawmi
And O my people
مَا
What (is)
لِىٓ
for me
أَدْعُوكُمْ
adʿūkum
(that) I call you
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلنَّجَوٰةِ
l-najati
the salvation
وَتَدْعُونَنِىٓ
watadʿūnanī
while you call me
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
And O my people, how is it that I invite you to salvation while you invite me to the Fire?

40:42
Ayah 40:42
تَدْعُونَنِى لِأَكْفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَأُشْرِكَ بِهِۦ مَا لَيْسَ لِى بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ وَأَنَا۠ أَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْغَفَّـٰرِ
تَدْعُونَنِى
tadʿūnanī
You call me
لِأَكْفُرَ
li-akfura
that I disbelieve
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
in Allah
وَأُشْرِكَ
wa-ush'rika
and (to) associate
بِهِۦ
bihi
with Him
مَا
what
لَيْسَ
laysa
not
لِى
for me
بِهِۦ
bihi
of it
عِلْمٌ
ʿil'mun
any knowledge
وَأَنَا۠
wa-anā
and I
أَدْعُوكُمْ
adʿūkum
call you
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty
ٱلْغَفَّـٰرِ
l-ghafāri
the Oft-Forgiving
You invite me to disbelieve in Allāh and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.1

40:43
Ayah 40:43
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّمَا تَدْعُونَنِىٓ إِلَيْهِ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَعْوَةٌ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ مَرَدَّنَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ
لَا
No
جَرَمَ
jarama
doubt
أَنَّمَا
annamā
that what
تَدْعُونَنِىٓ
tadʿūnanī
you call me
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to it
لَيْسَ
laysa
not
لَهُۥ
lahu
for it
دَعْوَةٌ
daʿwatun
a claim
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
the world
وَلَا
walā
and not
فِى
in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
مَرَدَّنَآ
maraddanā
our return
إِلَى
ilā
(is) to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
l-mus'rifīna
the transgressors
هُمْ
hum
they
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu
(will be the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
(of) the Fire
Assuredly, that to which you invite me has no [response to a] supplication in this world or in the Hereafter; and indeed, our return is to Allāh, and indeed, the transgressors will be companions of the Fire.

40:44
Ayah 40:44
فَسَتَذْكُرُونَ مَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ ۚ وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمْرِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَصِيرٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ
فَسَتَذْكُرُونَ
fasatadhkurūna
And you will remember
مَآ
what
أَقُولُ
aqūlu
I say
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
وَأُفَوِّضُ
wa-ufawwiḍu
and I entrust
أَمْرِىٓ
amrī
my affair
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
بَصِيرٌۢ
baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer
بِٱلْعِبَادِ
bil-ʿibādi
of (His) slaves
And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Seeing of [His] servants."

40:45
Ayah 40:45
فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِ مَا مَكَرُوا۟ ۖ وَحَاقَ بِـَٔالِ فِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ ٱلْعَذَابِ
فَوَقَىٰهُ
fawaqāhu
So Allah protected him
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
So Allah protected him
سَيِّـَٔاتِ
sayyiāti
(from the) evils
مَا
that
مَكَرُوا۟
makarū
they plotted
وَحَاقَ
waḥāqa
and enveloped
بِـَٔالِ
biāli
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
سُوٓءُ
sūu
(the) worst
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi
punishment
So Allāh protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment -

40:46
Ayah 40:46
ٱلنَّارُ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا غُدُوًّا وَعَشِيًّا ۖ وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْخِلُوٓا۟ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَشَدَّ ٱلْعَذَابِ
ٱلنَّارُ
al-nāru
The Fire
يُعْرَضُونَ
yuʿ'raḍūna
they are exposed
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
to it
غُدُوًّا
ghuduwwan
morning
وَعَشِيًّا
waʿashiyyan
and evening
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
And (the) Day
تَقُومُ
taqūmu
(will be) established
ٱلسَّاعَةُ
l-sāʿatu
the Hour
أَدْخِلُوٓا۟
adkhilū
Cause to enter
ءَالَ
āla
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
أَشَدَّ
ashadda
(in the) severest
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi
punishment
The Fire; they are exposed to it morning and evening.1 And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."

40:47
Ayah 40:47
وَإِذْ يَتَحَآجُّونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ فَيَقُولُ ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعًا فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّغْنُونَ عَنَّا نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
يَتَحَآجُّونَ
yataḥājjūna
they will dispute
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūlu
then will say
ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟
l-ḍuʿafāu
the weak
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟
is'takbarū
were arrogant
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
كُنَّا
kunnā
[we] were
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
تَبَعًا
tabaʿan
followers
فَهَلْ
fahal
so can
أَنتُم
antum
you
مُّغْنُونَ
mugh'nūna
avert
عَنَّا
ʿannā
from us
نَصِيبًا
naṣīban
a portion
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
And [mention] when they will argue within the Fire, and the weak will say to those who had been arrogant, "Indeed, we were [only] your followers, so will you relieve us of a share of the Fire?"

40:48
Ayah 40:48
قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُلٌّ فِيهَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدْ حَكَمَ بَيْنَ ٱلْعِبَادِ
قَالَ
qāla
Will say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟
is'takbarū
(were) arrogant
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed, we
كُلٌّ
kullun
all
فِيهَآ
fīhā
(are) in it
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
قَدْ
qad
certainly
حَكَمَ
ḥakama
has judged
بَيْنَ
bayna
between
ٱلْعِبَادِ
l-ʿibādi
(His) slaves
Those who had been arrogant will say, "Indeed, all [of us] are in it. Indeed, Allāh has judged between the servants."

40:49
Ayah 40:49
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ٱدْعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ يُخَفِّفْ عَنَّا يَوْمًا مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And will say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
لِخَزَنَةِ
likhazanati
to (the) keepers
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
(of) Hell
ٱدْعُوا۟
id'ʿū
Call
رَبَّكُمْ
rabbakum
your Lord
يُخَفِّفْ
yukhaffif
(to) lighten
عَنَّا
ʿannā
for us
يَوْمًا
yawman
a day
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment."

40:50
Ayah 40:50
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيكُمْ رُسُلُكُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ ۚ قَالُوا۟ فَٱدْعُوا۟ ۗ وَمَا دُعَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ
قَالُوٓا۟

They (will) say
أَوَلَمْ
awalam
Did there not
تَكُ
taku
Did there not
تَأْتِيكُمْ
tatīkum
come to you
رُسُلُكُم
rusulukum
your Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They (will) say
بَلَىٰ
balā
Yes
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They (will) say
فَٱدْعُوا۟
fa-id'ʿū
Then call
وَمَا
wamā
but not
دُعَـٰٓؤُا۟
duʿāu
(is the) call
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
إِلَّا
illā
except
فِى
in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
ḍalālin
error
They will say, "Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." They will reply, "Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error [i.e., futility]."

40:51
Ayah 40:51
إِنَّا لَنَنصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْأَشْهَـٰدُ
إِنَّا
innā
Indeed We
لَنَنصُرُ
lananṣuru
We will surely help
رُسُلَنَا
rusulanā
Our Messengers
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَيَوْمَ
wayawma
and (on the) Day
يَقُومُ
yaqūmu
(when) will stand
ٱلْأَشْهَـٰدُ
l-ashhādu
the witnesses
Indeed, We will support Our messengers and those who believe during the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand -

40:52
Ayah 40:52
يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ ۖ وَلَهُمُ ٱللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ
يَوْمَ
yawma
(The) Day
لَا
not
يَنفَعُ
yanfaʿu
will benefit
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ
maʿdhiratuhum
their excuse
وَلَهُمُ
walahumu
and for them
ٱللَّعْنَةُ
l-laʿnatu
(is) the curse
وَلَهُمْ
walahum
and for them
سُوٓءُ
sūu
(is the) worst
ٱلدَّارِ
l-dāri
home
The Day their excuse will not benefit the wrongdoers, and they will have the curse, and they will have the worst home [i.e., Hell].

40:53
Ayah 40:53
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَأَوْرَثْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And certainly
ءَاتَيْنَا
ātaynā
We gave
مُوسَى
mūsā
Musa
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudā
the guidance
وَأَوْرَثْنَا
wa-awrathnā
and We caused to inherit
بَنِىٓ
banī
(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla
(the) Children of Israel
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Book
And We had certainly given Moses guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture

40:54
Ayah 40:54
هُدًى وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
هُدًى
hudan
A guide
وَذِكْرَىٰ
wadhik'rā
and a reminder
لِأُو۟لِى
li-ulī
for those
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
l-albābi
(of) understanding
As guidance and a reminder for those of understanding.

40:55
Ayah 40:55
فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ
فَٱصْبِرْ
fa-iṣ'bir
So be patient
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
وَعْدَ
waʿda
(the) Promise of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(the) Promise of Allah
حَقٌّ
ḥaqqun
(is) true
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ
wa-is'taghfir
And ask forgiveness
لِذَنۢبِكَ
lidhanbika
for your sin
وَسَبِّحْ
wasabbiḥ
and glorify
بِحَمْدِ
biḥamdi
(the) praise
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
(of) your Lord
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
bil-ʿashiyi
in the evening
وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ
wal-ib'kāri
and the morning
So be patient, [O Muḥammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin1 and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning.

40:56
Ayah 40:56
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَـٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمْ ۙ إِن فِى صُدُورِهِمْ إِلَّا كِبْرٌ مَّا هُم بِبَـٰلِغِيهِ ۚ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يُجَـٰدِلُونَ
yujādilūna
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
سُلْطَـٰنٍ
sul'ṭānin
any authority
أَتَىٰهُمْ
atāhum
(which) came to them
إِن
in
not
فِى
(is) in
صُدُورِهِمْ
ṣudūrihim
their breasts
إِلَّا
illā
but
كِبْرٌ
kib'run
greatness
مَّا
not
هُم
hum
they
بِبَـٰلِغِيهِ
bibālighīhi
(can) reach it
فَٱسْتَعِذْ
fa-is'taʿidh
So seek refuge
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
in Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed He
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
l-samīʿu
(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْبَصِيرُ
l-baṣīru
the All-Seer
Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without [any] evidence having come to them - there is not within their breasts except pride, [the extent of] which they cannot reach. So seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing.

40:57
Ayah 40:57
لَخَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ خَلْقِ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
لَخَلْقُ
lakhalqu
Surely, (the) creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
أَكْبَرُ
akbaru
(is) greater
مِنْ
min
than
خَلْقِ
khalqi
(the) creation
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
(of) the mankind
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَ
akthara
most
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
(of) the people
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
know
The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know.

40:58
Ayah 40:58
وَمَا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَلَا ٱلْمُسِىٓءُ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
يَسْتَوِى
yastawī
(are) equal
ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ
l-aʿmā
the blind
وَٱلْبَصِيرُ
wal-baṣīru
and the seeing
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَلَا
walā
and not
ٱلْمُسِىٓءُ
l-musīu
the evildoer
قَلِيلًا
qalīlan
Little
مَّا
(is) what
تَتَذَكَّرُونَ
tatadhakkarūna
you take heed
And not equal are the blind and the seeing, nor are those who believe and do righteous deeds and the evildoer. Little do you remember.

40:59
Ayah 40:59
إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata
the Hour
لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ
laātiyatun
(is) surely coming
لَّا
no
رَيْبَ
rayba
doubt
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَ
akthara
most
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
(of) the people
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
believe
Indeed, the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - but most of the people do not believe.

40:60
Ayah 40:60
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِى سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
رَبُّكُمُ
rabbukumu
your Lord
ٱدْعُونِىٓ
id'ʿūnī
Call upon Me
أَسْتَجِبْ
astajib
I will respond
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
yastakbirūna
(are) proud
عَنْ
ʿan
to
عِبَادَتِى
ʿibādatī
worship Me
سَيَدْخُلُونَ
sayadkhulūna
will enter
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
Hell
دَاخِرِينَ
dākhirīna
(in) humiliation
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

40:61
Ayah 40:61
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ فِيهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبْصِرًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
made
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-layla
the night
لِتَسْكُنُوا۟
litaskunū
that you may rest
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
wal-nahāra
and the day
مُبْصِرًا
mub'ṣiran
giving visibility
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
لَذُو
ladhū
(is) Full (of) Bounty
فَضْلٍ
faḍlin
(is) Full (of) Bounty
عَلَى
ʿalā
to
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
the people
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinna
but
أَكْثَرَ
akthara
most
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
(of) the people
لَا
(do) not
يَشْكُرُونَ
yashkurūna
give thanks
It is Allāh who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight.1 Indeed, Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful.

40:62
Ayah 40:62
ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ
ذَٰلِكُمُ
dhālikumu
That
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
your Lord
خَـٰلِقُ
khāliqu
(the) Creator
كُلِّ
kulli
(of) all
شَىْءٍ
shayin
things
لَّآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
except
هُوَ
huwa
Him
فَأَنَّىٰ
fa-annā
So how
تُؤْفَكُونَ
tu'fakūna
are you deluded
That is Allāh, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?

40:63
Ayah 40:63
كَذَٰلِكَ يُؤْفَكُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
يُؤْفَكُ
yu'faku
were deluded
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَانُوا۟
kānū
were
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
يَجْحَدُونَ
yajḥadūna
rejecting
Thus were those [before you] deluded who were rejecting the signs of Allāh.

40:64
Ayah 40:64
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ قَرَارًا وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بِنَآءً وَصَوَّرَكُمْ فَأَحْسَنَ صُوَرَكُمْ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ ۖ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
made
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
the earth
قَرَارًا
qarāran
a place of settlement
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ
wal-samāa
and the sky
بِنَآءً
bināan
a canopy
وَصَوَّرَكُمْ
waṣawwarakum
and He formed you
فَأَحْسَنَ
fa-aḥsana
and perfected
صُوَرَكُمْ
ṣuwarakum
your forms
وَرَزَقَكُم
warazaqakum
and provided you
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ
l-ṭayibāti
the good things
ذَٰلِكُمُ
dhālikumu
That
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
your Lord
فَتَبَارَكَ
fatabāraka
Then blessed (is)
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
رَبُّ
rabbu
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
It is Allāh who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a structure [i.e., ceiling] and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allāh, your Lord; then blessed is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

40:65
Ayah 40:65
هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱدْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ ۗ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلْحَىُّ
l-ḥayu
(is) the Ever-Living
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
but
هُوَ
huwa
He
فَٱدْعُوهُ
fa-id'ʿūhu
so call Him
مُخْلِصِينَ
mukh'liṣīna
(being) sincere
لَهُ
lahu
to Him
ٱلدِّينَ
l-dīna
(in) the religion
ٱلْحَمْدُ
l-ḥamdu
All praise (be)
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
to Allah
رَبِّ
rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
He is the Ever-Living;1 there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

40:66
Ayah 40:66
۞ قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَمَّا جَآءَنِىَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ مِن رَّبِّى وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
قُلْ
qul
Say
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
نُهِيتُ
nuhītu
[I] have been forbidden
أَنْ
an
to
أَعْبُدَ
aʿbuda
worship
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those whom
تَدْعُونَ
tadʿūna
you call
مِن
min
besides
دُونِ
dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
لَمَّا
lammā
when
جَآءَنِىَ
jāaniya
have come to me
ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ
l-bayinātu
the clear proofs
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
وَأُمِرْتُ
wa-umir'tu
and I am commanded
أَنْ
an
to
أُسْلِمَ
us'lima
submit
لِرَبِّ
lirabbi
to (the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allāh once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds."

40:67
Ayah 40:67
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَشُدَّكُمْ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُوا۟ شُيُوخًا ۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَجَلًا مُّسَمًّى وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُم
khalaqakum
created you
مِّن
min
from
تُرَابٍ
turābin
dust
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
مِن
min
from
نُّطْفَةٍ
nuṭ'fatin
a semen-drop
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
مِنْ
min
from
عَلَقَةٍ
ʿalaqatin
a clinging substance
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
يُخْرِجُكُمْ
yukh'rijukum
He brings you out
طِفْلًا
ṭif'lan
(as) a child
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟
litablughū
lets you reach
أَشُدَّكُمْ
ashuddakum
your maturity
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
لِتَكُونُوا۟
litakūnū
lets you become
شُيُوخًا
shuyūkhan
old
وَمِنكُم
waminkum
and among you
مَّن
man
(is he) who
يُتَوَفَّىٰ
yutawaffā
dies
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟
walitablughū
and lets you reach
أَجَلًا
ajalan
a term
مُّسَمًّى
musamman
specified
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ
walaʿallakum
and that you may
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūna
use reason
It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term;1 and perhaps you will use reason.

40:68
Ayah 40:68
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ فَإِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُحْىِۦ
yuḥ'yī
gives life
وَيُمِيتُ
wayumītu
and causes death
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
And when
قَضَىٰٓ
qaḍā
He decrees
أَمْرًا
amran
a matter
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innamā
then only
يَقُولُ
yaqūlu
He says
لَهُۥ
lahu
to it
كُن
kun
Be
فَيَكُونُ
fayakūnu
and it is
He it is who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a matter, He but says to it, "Be," and it is.

40:69
Ayah 40:69
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ أَنَّىٰ يُصْرَفُونَ
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَ
tara
you see
إِلَى
ilā
[to]
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يُجَـٰدِلُونَ
yujādilūna
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
أَنَّىٰ
annā
How
يُصْرَفُونَ
yuṣ'rafūna
they are turned away
Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh - how are they averted?

40:70
Ayah 40:70
ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَبِمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا بِهِۦ رُسُلَنَا ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabū
deny
بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
bil-kitābi
the Book
وَبِمَآ
wabimā
and with what
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
We sent
بِهِۦ
bihi
with it
رُسُلَنَا
rusulanā
Our Messengers
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
but soon
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna
they will know
Those who deny the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and that with which We sent Our messengers - they are going to know,

40:71
Ayah 40:71
إِذِ ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ وَٱلسَّلَـٰسِلُ يُسْحَبُونَ
إِذِ
idhi
When
ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ
l-aghlālu
the iron collars
فِىٓ
(will be) around
أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ
aʿnāqihim
their necks
وَٱلسَّلَـٰسِلُ
wal-salāsilu
and the chains
يُسْحَبُونَ
yus'ḥabūna
they will be dragged
When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged

40:72
Ayah 40:72
فِى ٱلْحَمِيمِ ثُمَّ فِى ٱلنَّارِ يُسْجَرُونَ
فِى
In
ٱلْحَمِيمِ
l-ḥamīmi
the boiling water
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
يُسْجَرُونَ
yus'jarūna
they will be burned
In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame].

40:73
Ayah 40:73
ثُمَّ قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
قِيلَ
qīla
it will be said
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
أَيْنَ
ayna
Where
مَا
(is) that which
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used to
تُشْرِكُونَ
tush'rikūna
associate
Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]

40:74
Ayah 40:74
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا بَل لَّمْ نَكُن نَّدْعُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ شَيْـًٔا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

Other than
دُونِ
dūni
Other than
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
قَالُوا۟
qālū
They will say
ضَلُّوا۟
ḍallū
They have departed
عَنَّا
ʿannā
from us
بَل
bal
Nay
لَّمْ
lam
Not
نَكُن
nakun
we used to
نَّدْعُوا۟
nadʿū
[we] call
مِن
min
before
قَبْلُ
qablu
before
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
anything
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
يُضِلُّ
yuḍillu
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
Other than Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allāh put astray the disbelievers.

40:75
Ayah 40:75
ذَٰلِكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَفْرَحُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنتُمْ تَمْرَحُونَ
ذَٰلِكُم
dhālikum
That was
بِمَا
bimā
because
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used to
تَفْرَحُونَ
tafraḥūna
rejoice
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi
right
وَبِمَا
wabimā
and because
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used to
تَمْرَحُونَ
tamraḥūna
be insolent
[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.

40:76
Ayah 40:76
ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ أَبْوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ
ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟
ud'khulū
Enter
أَبْوَٰبَ
abwāba
(the) gates
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama
(of) Hell
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīna
(to) abide forever
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
فَبِئْسَ
fabi'sa
and wretched is
مَثْوَى
mathwā
(the) abode
ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ
l-mutakabirīna
(of) the arrogant
Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant."

40:77
Ayah 40:77
فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۚ فَإِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُونَ
فَٱصْبِرْ
fa-iṣ'bir
So be patient
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
وَعْدَ
waʿda
(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
حَقٌّ
ḥaqqun
(is) true
فَإِمَّا
fa-immā
And whether
نُرِيَنَّكَ
nuriyannaka
We show you
بَعْضَ
baʿḍa
some
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(of) what
نَعِدُهُمْ
naʿiduhum
We have promised them
أَوْ
aw
or
نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ
natawaffayannaka
We cause you to die
فَإِلَيْنَا
fa-ilaynā
then to Us
يُرْجَعُونَ
yur'jaʿūna
they will be returned
So be patient, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.

40:78
Ayah 40:78
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِّن قَبْلِكَ مِنْهُم مَّن قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُم مَّن لَّمْ نَقْصُصْ عَلَيْكَ ۗ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن يَأْتِىَ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ قُضِىَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And certainly
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
We have sent
رُسُلًا
rusulan
Messengers
مِّن
min
before you
قَبْلِكَ
qablika
before you
مِنْهُم
min'hum
Among them
مَّن
man
(are) who
قَصَصْنَا
qaṣaṣnā
We have related
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
to you
وَمِنْهُم
wamin'hum
and among them
مَّن
man
(are) who
لَّمْ
lam
not
نَقْصُصْ
naqṣuṣ
We have related
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
to you
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَانَ
kāna
is
لِرَسُولٍ
lirasūlin
for any Messenger
أَن
an
that
يَأْتِىَ
yatiya
he brings
بِـَٔايَةٍ
biāyatin
a Sign
إِلَّا
illā
except
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'ni
by (the) permission
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
So when
جَآءَ
jāa
comes
أَمْرُ
amru
(the) Command
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
قُضِىَ
quḍiya
it will be decided
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَخَسِرَ
wakhasira
and will lose
هُنَالِكَ
hunālika
there
ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ
l-mub'ṭilūna
the falsifiers
And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allāh. So when the command of Allāh comes, it will be concluded [i.e., judged] in truth, and the falsifiers will thereupon lose [all].

40:79
Ayah 40:79
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ لِتَرْكَبُوا۟ مِنْهَا وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
made
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ
l-anʿāma
the cattle
لِتَرْكَبُوا۟
litarkabū
that you may ride
مِنْهَا
min'hā
some of them
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hā
and some of them
تَأْكُلُونَ
takulūna
you eat
It is Allāh who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat.

40:80
Ayah 40:80
وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَلِتَبْلُغُوا۟ عَلَيْهَا حَاجَةً فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ
وَلَكُمْ
walakum
And for you
فِيهَا
fīhā
in them
مَنَـٰفِعُ
manāfiʿu
(are) benefits
وَلِتَبْلُغُوا۟
walitablughū
and that you may reach
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
through them
حَاجَةً
ḥājatan
a need
فِى
(that is) in
صُدُورِكُمْ
ṣudūrikum
your breasts
وَعَلَيْهَا
waʿalayhā
and upon them
وَعَلَى
waʿalā
and upon
ٱلْفُلْكِ
l-ful'ki
the ships
تُحْمَلُونَ
tuḥ'malūna
you are carried
And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts;1 and upon them and upon ships you are carried.

40:81
Ayah 40:81
وَيُرِيكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ فَأَىَّ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُنكِرُونَ
وَيُرِيكُمْ
wayurīkum
And He shows you
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ
āyātihi
His Signs
فَأَىَّ
fa-ayya
Then which
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti
(of the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
تُنكِرُونَ
tunkirūna
will you deny
And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of Allāh do you deny?

40:82
Ayah 40:82
أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوٓا۟ أَكْثَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّةً وَءَاثَارًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
أَفَلَمْ
afalam
Do they not
يَسِيرُوا۟
yasīrū
travel
فِى
through
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
فَيَنظُرُوا۟
fayanẓurū
and see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
كَانَ
kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
مِن
min
(were) before them
قَبْلِهِمْ
qablihim
(were) before them
كَانُوٓا۟
kānū
They were
أَكْثَرَ
akthara
more numerous
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
than them
وَأَشَدَّ
wa-ashadda
and mightier
قُوَّةً
quwwatan
(in) strength
وَءَاثَارًا
waāthāran
and impressions
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the land
فَمَآ
famā
but not
أَغْنَىٰ
aghnā
availed
عَنْهُم
ʿanhum
them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used to
يَكْسِبُونَ
yaksibūna
earn
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than themselves and greater in strength and in impression on the land, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.

40:83
Ayah 40:83
فَلَمَّا جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
Then when
جَآءَتْهُمْ
jāathum
came to them
رُسُلُهُم
rusuluhum
their Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَرِحُوا۟
fariḥū
they rejoiced
بِمَا
bimā
in what
عِندَهُم
ʿindahum
they had
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلْعِلْمِ
l-ʿil'mi
the knowledge
وَحَاقَ
waḥāqa
and enveloped
بِهِم
bihim
them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used to
بِهِۦ
bihi
[at it]
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
yastahziūna
mock
And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what they had of knowledge, but they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

40:84
Ayah 40:84
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا۟ بَأْسَنَا قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَكَفَرْنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِۦ مُشْرِكِينَ
فَلَمَّا
falammā
So when
رَأَوْا۟
ra-aw
they saw
بَأْسَنَا
basanā
Our punishment
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
they said
ءَامَنَّا
āmannā
We believe
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
in Allah
وَحْدَهُۥ
waḥdahu
Alone
وَكَفَرْنَا
wakafarnā
and we disbelieve
بِمَا
bimā
in what
كُنَّا
kunnā
we used to
بِهِۦ
bihi
with Him
مُشْرِكِينَ
mush'rikīna
associate
And when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in Allāh alone and disbelieve in that which we used to associate with Him."

40:85
Ayah 40:85
فَلَمْ يَكُ يَنفَعُهُمْ إِيمَـٰنُهُمْ لَمَّا رَأَوْا۟ بَأْسَنَا ۖ سُنَّتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِى قَدْ خَلَتْ فِى عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
فَلَمْ
falam
But did not
يَكُ
yaku
But did not
يَنفَعُهُمْ
yanfaʿuhum
benefit them
إِيمَـٰنُهُمْ
īmānuhum
their faith
لَمَّا
lammā
when
رَأَوْا۟
ra-aw
they saw
بَأْسَنَا
basanā
Our punishment
سُنَّتَ
sunnata
(Such is the) Way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلَّتِى
allatī
which
قَدْ
qad
(has) indeed
خَلَتْ
khalat
preceded
فِى
among
عِبَادِهِۦ
ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَخَسِرَ
wakhasira
And are lost
هُنَالِكَ
hunālika
there
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
But never did their faith benefit them once they saw Our punishment. [It is] the established way of Allāh which has preceded among His servants. And the disbelievers thereupon lost [all].
