Ayah 42:3
كَذَٰلِكَ يُوحِىٓ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
يُوحِىٓ
yūḥī
reveals
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
وَإِلَى
wa-ilā
and to
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those
مِن
min
before you
قَبْلِكَ
qablika
before you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُ
l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
Thus has He revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], and to those before you - Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

42:4
Ayah 42:4
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
لَهُۥ
lahu
To Him
مَا
(belong) whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and He
ٱلْعَلِىُّ
l-ʿaliyu
(is) the Most High
ٱلْعَظِيمُ
l-ʿaẓīmu
the Most Great
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.1

42:5
Ayah 42:5
تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِن فَوْقِهِنَّ ۚ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
تَكَادُ
takādu
Almost
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ
l-samāwātu
the heavens
يَتَفَطَّرْنَ
yatafaṭṭarna
break up
مِن
min
from
فَوْقِهِنَّ
fawqihinna
above them
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
wal-malāikatu
and the Angels
يُسَبِّحُونَ
yusabbiḥūna
glorify
بِحَمْدِ
biḥamdi
(the) praise
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
wayastaghfirūna
and ask for forgiveness
لِمَن
liman
for those
فِى
on
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
أَلَآ
alā
Unquestionably
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلْغَفُورُ
l-ghafūru
(is) the Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
l-raḥīmu
the Most Merciful
The heavens almost break from above them,1 and the angels exalt [Allāh] with praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on earth. Unquestionably, it is Allāh who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

42:6
Ayah 42:6
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهُ حَفِيظٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhū
take
مِن
min
besides
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihi
besides
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa
protectors
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
حَفِيظٌ
ḥafīẓun
(is) a Guardian
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
over them
وَمَآ
wamā
and not
أَنتَ
anta
you
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
(are) over them
بِوَكِيلٍ
biwakīlin
a manager
And those who take as allies other than Him - Allāh is [yet] Guardian over them; and you, [O Muḥammad], are not over them a manager.

42:7
Ayah 42:7
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّا لِّتُنذِرَ أُمَّ ٱلْقُرَىٰ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَا وَتُنذِرَ يَوْمَ ٱلْجَمْعِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ فَرِيقٌ فِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ وَفَرِيقٌ فِى ٱلسَّعِيرِ
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynā
We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
قُرْءَانًا
qur'ānan
a Quran
عَرَبِيًّا
ʿarabiyyan
(in) Arabic
لِّتُنذِرَ
litundhira
that you may warn
أُمَّ
umma
(the) mother
ٱلْقُرَىٰ
l-qurā
(of) the towns
وَمَنْ
waman
and whoever
حَوْلَهَا
ḥawlahā
(is) around it
وَتُنذِرَ
watundhira
and warn
يَوْمَ
yawma
(of the) Day
ٱلْجَمْعِ
l-jamʿi
(of) Assembly
لَا
(there is) no
رَيْبَ
rayba
doubt
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
فَرِيقٌ
farīqun
A party
فِى
(will be) in
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati
Paradise
وَفَرِيقٌ
wafarīqun
and a party
فِى
in
ٱلسَّعِيرِ
l-saʿīri
the Blazing Fire
And thus We have revealed to you an Arabic Qur’ān that you may warn the Mother of Cities [i.e., Makkah] and those around it1 and warn of the Day of Assembly, about which there is no doubt. A party will be in Paradise and a party in the Blaze.

42:8
Ayah 42:8
وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَهُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَلَـٰكِن يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ وَٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ مَا لَهُم مِّن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
شَآءَ
shāa
Allah willed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah willed
لَجَعَلَهُمْ
lajaʿalahum
He could have made them
أُمَّةً
ummatan
a community
وَٰحِدَةً
wāḥidatan
one
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin
but
يُدْخِلُ
yud'khilu
He admits
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
فِى
in (to)
رَحْمَتِهِۦ
raḥmatihi
His Mercy
وَٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
wal-ẓālimūna
And the wrongdoers
مَا
not
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّن
min
any
وَلِىٍّ
waliyyin
protector
وَلَا
walā
and not
نَصِيرٍ
naṣīrin
any helper
And if Allāh willed, He could have made them [of] one religion, but He admits whom He wills1 into His mercy. And the wrongdoers have not any protector or helper.

42:9
Ayah 42:9
أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ فَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلْوَلِىُّ وَهُوَ يُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
أَمِ
ami
Or
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhū
have they taken
مِن
min
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihi
besides Him
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa
protectors
فَٱللَّهُ
fal-lahu
But Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلْوَلِىُّ
l-waliyu
(is) the Protector
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and He
يُحْىِ
yuḥ'yī
gives life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
l-mawtā
(to) the dead
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
(is) on
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
قَدِيرٌ
qadīrun
All-Powerful
Or have they taken protectors [or allies] besides Him? But Allāh - He is the Protector, and He gives life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.

42:10
Ayah 42:10
وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ مِن شَىْءٍ فَحُكْمُهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّى عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ
وَمَا
wamā
And whatever
ٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ
ikh'talaftum
you differ
فِيهِ
fīhi
in it
مِن
min
of
شَىْءٍ
shayin
a thing
فَحُكْمُهُۥٓ
faḥuk'muhu
then its ruling
إِلَى
ilā
(is) to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
ذَٰلِكُمُ
dhālikumu
That
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبِّى
rabbī
my Lord
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
upon Him
تَوَكَّلْتُ
tawakkaltu
I put my trust
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
أُنِيبُ
unību
I turn
And in anything over which you disagree - its ruling is [to be referred] to Allāh. [Say], "That is Allāh, my Lord; upon Him I have relied, and to Him I turn back."1

42:11
Ayah 42:11
فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا وَمِنَ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ أَزْوَٰجًا ۖ يَذْرَؤُكُمْ فِيهِ ۚ لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
فَاطِرُ
fāṭiru
(The) Creator
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
He made
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنْ
min
from
أَنفُسِكُمْ
anfusikum
yourselves
أَزْوَٰجًا
azwājan
mates
وَمِنَ
wamina
and among
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ
l-anʿāmi
the cattle
أَزْوَٰجًا
azwājan
mates
يَذْرَؤُكُمْ
yadhra-ukum
He multiplies you
فِيهِ
fīhi
thereby
لَيْسَ
laysa
(There) is not
كَمِثْلِهِۦ
kamith'lihi
like Him
شَىْءٌ
shayon
anything
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
l-samīʿu
(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْبَصِيرُ
l-baṣīru
the All-Seer
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him,1 and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.2

42:12
Ayah 42:12
لَهُۥ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
لَهُۥ
lahu
To Him (belongs)
مَقَالِيدُ
maqālīdu
(the) keys
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
يَبْسُطُ
yabsuṭu
He extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ
l-riz'qa
the provision
لِمَن
liman
for whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَيَقْدِرُ
wayaqdiru
and restricts
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
بِكُلِّ
bikulli
of every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. He extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is, of all things, Knowing.

42:13
Ayah 42:13
۞ شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِۦ نُوحًا وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِۦٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰٓ ۖ أَنْ أَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُوا۟ فِيهِ ۚ كَبُرَ عَلَى ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَيْهِ ۚ ٱللَّهُ يَجْتَبِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَن يُنِيبُ
شَرَعَ
sharaʿa
He has ordained
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīni
the religion
مَا
what
وَصَّىٰ
waṣṣā
He enjoined
بِهِۦ
bihi
upon
نُوحًا
nūḥan
Nuh
وَٱلَّذِىٓ
wa-alladhī
and that which
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynā
We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
وَمَا
wamā
and what
وَصَّيْنَا
waṣṣaynā
We enjoined
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
upon
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
وَمُوسَىٰ
wamūsā
and Musa
وَعِيسَىٰٓ
waʿīsā
and Isa
أَنْ
an
To
أَقِيمُوا۟
aqīmū
establish
ٱلدِّينَ
l-dīna
the religion
وَلَا
walā
and not
تَتَفَرَّقُوا۟
tatafarraqū
be divided
فِيهِ
fīhi
therein
كَبُرَ
kabura
Is difficult
عَلَى
ʿalā
on
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
l-mush'rikīna
the polytheists
مَا
what
تَدْعُوهُمْ
tadʿūhum
you call them
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to it
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
يَجْتَبِىٓ
yajtabī
chooses
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
for Himself
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَيَهْدِىٓ
wayahdī
and guides
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhi
to Himself
مَن
man
whoever
يُنِيبُ
yunību
turns
He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allāh is that to which you invite them. Allāh chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him].

42:14
Ayah 42:14
وَمَا تَفَرَّقُوٓا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى لَّقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُورِثُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
تَفَرَّقُوٓا۟
tafarraqū
they became divided
إِلَّا
illā
until
مِنۢ
min
after
بَعْدِ
baʿdi
after
مَا
[what]
جَآءَهُمُ
jāahumu
came to them
ٱلْعِلْمُ
l-ʿil'mu
the knowledge
بَغْيًۢا
baghyan
(out of) rivalry
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
among them
وَلَوْلَا
walawlā
And if not
كَلِمَةٌ
kalimatun
(for) a word
سَبَقَتْ
sabaqat
(that) preceded
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
for
أَجَلٍ
ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّى
musamman
specified
لَّقُضِىَ
laquḍiya
surely, it (would have) been settled
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
between them
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
أُورِثُوا۟
ūrithū
were made to inherit
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Book
مِنۢ
min
after them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihim
after them
لَفِى
lafī
(are) surely in
شَكٍّ
shakkin
doubt
مِّنْهُ
min'hu
concerning it
مُرِيبٍ
murībin
disquieting
And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word1 that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.

42:15
Ayah 42:15
فَلِذَٰلِكَ فَٱدْعُ ۖ وَٱسْتَقِمْ كَمَآ أُمِرْتَ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۖ وَقُلْ ءَامَنتُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن كِتَـٰبٍ ۖ وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَعْدِلَ بَيْنَكُمُ ۖ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ ۖ لَنَآ أَعْمَـٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ ۖ لَا حُجَّةَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ۖ ٱللَّهُ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَنَا ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
فَلِذَٰلِكَ
falidhālika
So to that
فَٱدْعُ
fa-ud'ʿu
then invite
وَٱسْتَقِمْ
wa-is'taqim
and stand firm
كَمَآ
kamā
as
أُمِرْتَ
umir'ta
you are commanded
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعْ
tattabiʿ
follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
ahwāahum
their desires
وَقُلْ
waqul
but say
ءَامَنتُ
āmantu
I believe
بِمَآ
bimā
in what
أَنزَلَ
anzala
Allah has sent down
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has sent down
مِن
min
of
كِتَـٰبٍ
kitābin
(the) Book
وَأُمِرْتُ
wa-umir'tu
and I am commanded
لِأَعْدِلَ
li-aʿdila
that I do justice
بَيْنَكُمُ
baynakumu
between you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
رَبُّنَا
rabbunā
(is) our Lord
وَرَبُّكُمْ
warabbukum
and your Lord
لَنَآ
lanā
For us
أَعْمَـٰلُنَا
aʿmālunā
our deeds
وَلَكُمْ
walakum
and for you
أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ
aʿmālukum
your deeds
لَا
(There is) no
حُجَّةَ
ḥujjata
argument
بَيْنَنَا
baynanā
between us
وَبَيْنَكُمُ
wabaynakumu
and between you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
يَجْمَعُ
yajmaʿu
will assemble
بَيْنَنَا
baynanā
[between] us
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
l-maṣīru
(is) the final return
So to that [religion of Allāh] invite, [O Muḥammad],1 and remain on a right course as you are commanded and do not follow their inclinations but say, "I have believed in what Allāh has revealed of scripture [i.e., the Qur’ān], and I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allāh is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds.2 There is no [need for] argument between us and you.3 Allāh will bring us together, and to Him is the [final] destination."

42:16
Ayah 42:16
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُحَآجُّونَ فِى ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا ٱسْتُجِيبَ لَهُۥ حُجَّتُهُمْ دَاحِضَةٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
يُحَآجُّونَ
yuḥājjūna
argue
فِى
concerning
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مِنۢ
min
after
بَعْدِ
baʿdi
after
مَا
[what]
ٱسْتُجِيبَ
us'tujība
response has been made to Him
لَهُۥ
lahu
response has been made to Him
حُجَّتُهُمْ
ḥujjatuhum
their argument
دَاحِضَةٌ
dāḥiḍatun
(is) invalid
عِندَ
ʿinda
with
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
وَعَلَيْهِمْ
waʿalayhim
and upon them
غَضَبٌ
ghaḍabun
(is) wrath
وَلَهُمْ
walahum
and for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
شَدِيدٌ
shadīdun
severe
And those who argue concerning Allāh after He has been responded to1 - their argument is invalid with their Lord, and upon them is [His] wrath, and for them is a severe punishment.

42:17
Ayah 42:17
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ ۗ وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَرِيبٌ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī
(is) the One Who
أَنزَلَ
anzala
(has) sent down
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitāba
the Book
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
وَٱلْمِيزَانَ
wal-mīzāna
and the Balance
وَمَا
wamā
And what
يُدْرِيكَ
yud'rīka
will make you know
لَعَلَّ
laʿalla
Perhaps
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata
the Hour
قَرِيبٌ
qarībun
(is) near
It is Allāh who has sent down the Book in truth and [also] the balance [i.e., justice]. And what will make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near.

42:18
Ayah 42:18
يَسْتَعْجِلُ بِهَا ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهَا ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مُشْفِقُونَ مِنْهَا وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهَا ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُمَارُونَ فِى ٱلسَّاعَةِ لَفِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ
يَسْتَعْجِلُ
yastaʿjilu
Seek to hasten
بِهَا
bihā
[of] it
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
believe
بِهَا
bihā
in it
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
مُشْفِقُونَ
mush'fiqūna
(are) fearful
مِنْهَا
min'hā
of it
وَيَعْلَمُونَ
wayaʿlamūna
and know
أَنَّهَا
annahā
that it
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
أَلَآ
alā
Unquestionably
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يُمَارُونَ
yumārūna
dispute
فِى
concerning
ٱلسَّاعَةِ
l-sāʿati
the Hour
لَفِى
lafī
(are) certainly in
ضَلَـٰلٍۭ
ḍalālin
error
بَعِيدٍ
baʿīdin
far
Those who do not believe in it are impatient for it,1 but those who believe are fearful of it and know that it is the truth. Unquestionably, those who dispute concerning the Hour are in extreme error.

42:19
Ayah 42:19
ٱللَّهُ لَطِيفٌۢ بِعِبَادِهِۦ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْقَوِىُّ ٱلْعَزِيزُ
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
لَطِيفٌۢ
laṭīfun
(is) Subtle
بِعِبَادِهِۦ
biʿibādihi
with His slaves
يَرْزُقُ
yarzuqu
He gives provision
مَن
man
(to) whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلْقَوِىُّ
l-qawiyu
(is) the All-Strong
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzu
the All-Mighty
Allāh is Subtle1 with His servants; He gives provision to whom He wills. And He is the Powerful, the Exalted in Might.

42:20
Ayah 42:20
مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ نَزِدْ لَهُۥ فِى حَرْثِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ ٱلدُّنْيَا نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا وَمَا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ مِن نَّصِيبٍ
مَن
man
Whoever
كَانَ
kāna
is
يُرِيدُ
yurīdu
desiring
حَرْثَ
ḥartha
(the) harvest
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
نَزِدْ
nazid
We increase
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
فِى
in
حَرْثِهِۦ
ḥarthihi
his harvest
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
كَانَ
kāna
is
يُرِيدُ
yurīdu
desiring
حَرْثَ
ḥartha
(the) harvest
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
نُؤْتِهِۦ
nu'tihi
We give him
مِنْهَا
min'hā
of it
وَمَا
wamā
but not
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
فِى
in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati
the Hereafter
مِن
min
any
نَّصِيبٍ
naṣībin
share
Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter - We increase for him in his harvest [i.e., reward]. And whoever desires the harvest [i.e., benefits] of this world - We give him thereof, but there is not for him in the Hereafter any share.

42:21
Ayah 42:21
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَـٰٓؤُا۟ شَرَعُوا۟ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَنۢ بِهِ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةُ ٱلْفَصْلِ لَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
أَمْ
am
Or
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
شُرَكَـٰٓؤُا۟
shurakāu
(are) partners
شَرَعُوا۟
sharaʿū
who have ordained
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīni
the religion
مَا
what
لَمْ
lam
not
يَأْذَنۢ
yadhan
Allah has given permission of it
بِهِ
bihi
Allah has given permission of it
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has given permission of it
وَلَوْلَا
walawlā
And if not
كَلِمَةُ
kalimatu
(for) a word
ٱلْفَصْلِ
l-faṣli
decisive
لَقُضِىَ
laquḍiya
surely, it (would have) been judged
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
between them
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is a) punishment
أَلِيمٌ
alīmun
painful
Or have they partners [i.e., other deities] who have ordained for them a religion to which Allāh has not consented? But if not for the decisive word,1 it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, the wrongdoers will have a painful punishment.

42:22
Ayah 42:22
تَرَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مُشْفِقِينَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوا۟ وَهُوَ وَاقِعٌۢ بِهِمْ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فِى رَوْضَاتِ ٱلْجَنَّاتِ ۖ لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَضْلُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
تَرَى
tarā
You will see
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
مُشْفِقِينَ
mush'fiqīna
fearful
مِمَّا
mimmā
of what
كَسَبُوا۟
kasabū
they earned
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and it
وَاقِعٌۢ
wāqiʿun
(will) befall
بِهِمْ
bihim
[on] them
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
فِى
(will be) in
رَوْضَاتِ
rawḍāti
flowering meadows
ٱلْجَنَّاتِ
l-janāti
(of) the Gardens
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مَّا
(is) whatever
يَشَآءُونَ
yashāūna
they wish
عِندَ
ʿinda
with
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
هُوَ
huwa
it
ٱلْفَضْلُ
l-faḍlu
(is) the Bounty
ٱلْكَبِيرُ
l-kabīru
the Great
You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what they have earned, and it will [certainly] befall them. And those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be in lush regions of the gardens [in Paradise] having whatever they will in the presence of their Lord. That is what is the great bounty.

42:23
Ayah 42:23
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يُبَشِّرُ ٱللَّهُ عِبَادَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ ۗ قُل لَّآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا ٱلْمَوَدَّةَ فِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ ۗ وَمَن يَقْتَرِفْ حَسَنَةً نَّزِدْ لَهُۥ فِيهَا حُسْنًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is of) which
يُبَشِّرُ
yubashiru
Allah gives glad tidings
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah gives glad tidings
عِبَادَهُ
ʿibādahu
(to) His slaves
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
قُل
qul
Say
لَّآ
Not
أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ
asalukum
I ask you
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
for it
أَجْرًا
ajran
any payment
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلْمَوَدَّةَ
l-mawadata
the love
فِى
among
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ
l-qur'bā
the relatives
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يَقْتَرِفْ
yaqtarif
earns
حَسَنَةً
ḥasanatan
any good
نَّزِدْ
nazid
We increase
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
حُسْنًا
ḥus'nan
good
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
غَفُورٌ
ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
شَكُورٌ
shakūrun
All-Appreciative
It is that of which Allāh gives good tidings to His servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., this message] any payment [but] only good will through [i.e., due to] kinship." And whoever commits a good deed - We will increase for him good therein. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Appreciative.1

42:24
Ayah 42:24
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا ۖ فَإِن يَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ يَخْتِمْ عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ ۗ وَيَمْحُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ ٱلْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
أَمْ
am
Or
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
(do) they say
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarā
He has invented
عَلَى
ʿalā
about
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
كَذِبًا
kadhiban
a lie
فَإِن
fa-in
But if
يَشَإِ
yasha-i
Allah willed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah willed
يَخْتِمْ
yakhtim
He would seal
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
[over]
قَلْبِكَ
qalbika
your heart
وَيَمْحُ
wayamḥu
And Allah eliminates
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
And Allah eliminates
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ
l-bāṭila
the falsehood
وَيُحِقُّ
wayuḥiqqu
and establishes
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa
the truth
بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦٓ
bikalimātihi
by His Words
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِيمٌۢ
ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knowing
بِذَاتِ
bidhāti
of what
ٱلصُّدُورِ
l-ṣudūri
(is in) the breasts
Or do they say, "He has invented about Allāh a lie"? But if Allāh willed, He could seal over your heart.1 And Allāh eliminates falsehood and establishes the truth by His words. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

42:25
Ayah 42:25
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يَقْبَلُ ٱلتَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَنِ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
يَقْبَلُ
yaqbalu
accepts
ٱلتَّوْبَةَ
l-tawbata
the repentance
عَنْ
ʿan
of
عِبَادِهِۦ
ʿibādihi
His slaves
وَيَعْفُوا۟
wayaʿfū
and pardons
عَنِ
ʿani
[of]
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
l-sayiāti
the evil
وَيَعْلَمُ
wayaʿlamu
and He knows
مَا
what
تَفْعَلُونَ
tafʿalūna
you do
And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do.

42:26
Ayah 42:26
وَيَسْتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَيَزِيدُهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦ ۚ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ
وَيَسْتَجِيبُ
wayastajību
And He answers
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَيَزِيدُهُم
wayazīduhum
and increases (for) them
مِّن
min
from
فَضْلِهِۦ
faḍlihi
His Bounty
وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
wal-kāfirūna
And the disbelievers
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(will be) a punishment
شَدِيدٌ
shadīdun
severe
And He answers [the supplication of] those who have believed and done righteous deeds and increases [for] them from His bounty. But the disbelievers will have a severe punishment.

42:27
Ayah 42:27
۞ وَلَوْ بَسَطَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ لَبَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَـٰكِن يُنَزِّلُ بِقَدَرٍ مَّا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرٌۢ بَصِيرٌ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
بَسَطَ
basaṭa
Allah extends
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah extends
ٱلرِّزْقَ
l-riz'qa
the provision
لِعِبَادِهِۦ
liʿibādihi
for His slaves
لَبَغَوْا۟
labaghaw
surely they would rebel
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin
but
يُنَزِّلُ
yunazzilu
He sends down
بِقَدَرٍ
biqadarin
in (due) measure
مَّا
what
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
بِعِبَادِهِۦ
biʿibādihi
of His slaves
خَبِيرٌۢ
khabīrun
(is) All-Aware
بَصِيرٌ
baṣīrun
All-Seer
And if Allāh had extended [excessively] provision for His servants, they would have committed tyranny throughout the earth. But He sends [it] down in an amount which He wills. Indeed He is, of His servants, Aware and Seeing.

42:28
Ayah 42:28
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُنَزِّلُ ٱلْغَيْثَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا قَنَطُوا۟ وَيَنشُرُ رَحْمَتَهُۥ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْوَلِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) the One Who
يُنَزِّلُ
yunazzilu
sends down
ٱلْغَيْثَ
l-ghaytha
the rain
مِنۢ
min
after
بَعْدِ
baʿdi
after
مَا
[what]
قَنَطُوا۟
qanaṭū
they have despaired
وَيَنشُرُ
wayanshuru
and spreads
رَحْمَتَهُۥ
raḥmatahu
His mercy
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلْوَلِىُّ
l-waliyu
(is) the Protector
ٱلْحَمِيدُ
l-ḥamīdu
the Praiseworthy
And it is He who sends down the rain after they had despaired and spreads His mercy. And He is the Protector, the Praiseworthy.

42:29
Ayah 42:29
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ خَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ ۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمْعِهِمْ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٌ
وَمِنْ
wamin
And among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ
āyātihi
His Signs
خَلْقُ
khalqu
(is the) creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
بَثَّ
batha
He has dispersed
فِيهِمَا
fīhimā
in both of them
مِن
min
of
دَآبَّةٍ
dābbatin
(the) creatures
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
(is) over
جَمْعِهِمْ
jamʿihim
their gathering
إِذَا
idhā
when
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
قَدِيرٌ
qadīrun
All-Powerful
And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and earth and what He has dispersed throughout them of creatures. And He, for gathering them when He wills, is competent.

42:30
Ayah 42:30
وَمَآ أَصَـٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَن كَثِيرٍ
وَمَآ
wamā
And whatever
أَصَـٰبَكُم
aṣābakum
befalls you
مِّن
min
of
مُّصِيبَةٍ
muṣībatin
(the) misfortune
فَبِمَا
fabimā
(is because) of what
كَسَبَتْ
kasabat
have earned
أَيْدِيكُمْ
aydīkum
your hands
وَيَعْفُوا۟
wayaʿfū
But He pardons
عَن
ʿan
[from]
كَثِيرٍ
kathīrin
much
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.

42:31
Ayah 42:31
وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
وَمَآ
wamā
And not
أَنتُم
antum
you
بِمُعْجِزِينَ
bimuʿ'jizīna
(can) escape
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَمَا
wamā
and not
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّن
min
besides
دُونِ
dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مِن
min
any
وَلِىٍّ
waliyyin
protector
وَلَا
walā
and not
نَصِيرٍ
naṣīrin
any helper
And you will not cause failure [to Allāh]1 upon the earth. And you have not besides Allāh any protector or helper.

42:32
Ayah 42:32
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِ ٱلْجَوَارِ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ
وَمِنْ
wamin
And among
ءَايَـٰتِهِ
āyātihi
His Signs
ٱلْجَوَارِ
l-jawāri
(are) the ships
فِى
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri
the sea
كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ
kal-aʿlāmi
like [the] mountains
And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains.

42:33
Ayah 42:33
إِن يَشَأْ يُسْكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظْلَلْنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ
إِن
in
If
يَشَأْ
yasha
He wills
يُسْكِنِ
yus'kini
He can cause the wind to become still
ٱلرِّيحَ
l-rīḥa
He can cause the wind to become still
فَيَظْلَلْنَ
fayaẓlalna
then they would remain
رَوَاكِدَ
rawākida
motionless
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
ظَهْرِهِۦٓ
ẓahrihi
its back
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ
laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
لِّكُلِّ
likulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍ
ṣabbārin
patient
شَكُورٍ
shakūrin
(and) grateful
If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

42:34
Ayah 42:34
أَوْ يُوبِقْهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَيَعْفُ عَن كَثِيرٍ
أَوْ
aw
Or
يُوبِقْهُنَّ
yūbiq'hunna
He could destroy them
بِمَا
bimā
for what
كَسَبُوا۟
kasabū
they have earned
وَيَعْفُ
wayaʿfu
but He pardons
عَن
ʿan
[from]
كَثِيرٍ
kathīrin
much
Or He could destroy them1 for what they earned; but He pardons much.

42:35
Ayah 42:35
وَيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِنَا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٍ
وَيَعْلَمَ
wayaʿlama
And may know
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يُجَـٰدِلُونَ
yujādilūna
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātinā
Our Signs
مَا
(that) not
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّن
min
any
مَّحِيصٍ
maḥīṣin
place of refuge
And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape.

42:36
Ayah 42:36
فَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَمَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
فَمَآ
famā
So whatever
أُوتِيتُم
ūtītum
you are given
مِّن
min
of
شَىْءٍ
shayin
a thing
فَمَتَـٰعُ
famatāʿu
(is) but a passing enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati
(for) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
وَمَا
wamā
But what
عِندَ
ʿinda
(is) with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
خَيْرٌ
khayrun
(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰ
wa-abqā
and more lasting
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
for those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَلَىٰ
waʿalā
and upon
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
yatawakkalūna
put (their) trust
So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allāh is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely

42:37
Ayah 42:37
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُوا۟ هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
يَجْتَنِبُونَ
yajtanibūna
avoid
كَبَـٰٓئِرَ
kabāira
(the) greater
ٱلْإِثْمِ
l-ith'mi
sins
وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ
wal-fawāḥisha
and the immoralities
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
and when
مَا
and when
غَضِبُوا۟
ghaḍibū
they are angry
هُمْ
hum
they
يَغْفِرُونَ
yaghfirūna
forgive
And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,

42:38
Ayah 42:38
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟
is'tajābū
respond
لِرَبِّهِمْ
lirabbihim
to their Lord
وَأَقَامُوا۟
wa-aqāmū
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalata
prayer
وَأَمْرُهُمْ
wa-amruhum
and their affairs
شُورَىٰ
shūrā
(are conducted by) consultation
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahum
among them
وَمِمَّا
wamimmā
and from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ
razaqnāhum
We have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ
yunfiqūna
they spend
And those who have responded to their Lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend,

42:39
Ayah 42:39
وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْبَغْىُ هُمْ يَنتَصِرُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
إِذَآ
idhā
when
أَصَابَهُمُ
aṣābahumu
strikes them
ٱلْبَغْىُ
l-baghyu
tyranny
هُمْ
hum
they
يَنتَصِرُونَ
yantaṣirūna
defend themselves
And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they retaliate [in a just manner].1

42:40
Ayah 42:40
وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟ سَيِّئَةٍ سَيِّئَةٌ مِّثْلُهَا ۖ فَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟
wajazāu
(The) recompense
سَيِّئَةٍ
sayyi-atin
(of) an evil
سَيِّئَةٌ
sayyi-atun
(is) an evil
مِّثْلُهَا
mith'luhā
like it
فَمَنْ
faman
But whoever
عَفَا
ʿafā
pardons
وَأَصْلَحَ
wa-aṣlaḥa
and makes reconciliation
فَأَجْرُهُۥ
fa-ajruhu
then his reward
عَلَى
ʿalā
(is) on
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbu
like
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allāh. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.

42:41
Ayah 42:41
وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعْدَ ظُلْمِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَا عَلَيْهِم مِّن سَبِيلٍ
وَلَمَنِ
walamani
And surely whosoever
ٱنتَصَرَ
intaṣara
defends himself
بَعْدَ
baʿda
after
ظُلْمِهِۦ
ẓul'mihi
he has been wronged
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāika
then those
مَا
not
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhim
(is) against them
مِّن
min
any
سَبِيلٍ
sabīlin
way
And whoever retaliates after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame].

42:42
Ayah 42:42
إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظْلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبْغُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
ٱلسَّبِيلُ
l-sabīlu
the way
عَلَى
ʿalā
against
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
يَظْلِمُونَ
yaẓlimūna
oppress
ٱلنَّاسَ
l-nāsa
the people
وَيَبْغُونَ
wayabghūna
and rebel
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
بِغَيْرِ
bighayri
without
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi
right
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
alīmun
painful
The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.

42:43
Ayah 42:43
وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ
وَلَمَن
walaman
And whoever
صَبَرَ
ṣabara
(is) patient
وَغَفَرَ
waghafara
and forgives
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
لَمِنْ
lamin
(is) surely of
عَزْمِ
ʿazmi
matters of determination
ٱلْأُمُورِ
l-umūri
matters of determination
And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.1

42:44
Ayah 42:44
وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن وَلِىٍّ مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ وَتَرَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ يَقُولُونَ هَلْ إِلَىٰ مَرَدٍّ مِّن سَبِيلٍ
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يُضْلِلِ
yuḍ'lili
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا
famā
then not
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
مِن
min
any
وَلِىٍّ
waliyyin
protector
مِّنۢ
min
after Him
بَعْدِهِۦ
baʿdihi
after Him
وَتَرَى
watarā
And you will see
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
لَمَّا
lammā
when
رَأَوُا۟
ra-awū
they see
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhāba
the punishment
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
saying
هَلْ
hal
Is
إِلَىٰ
ilā
(there) for
مَرَدٍّ
maraddin
return
مِّن
min
any
سَبِيلٍ
sabīlin
way
And he whom Allāh sends astray - for him there is no protector beyond Him. And you will see the wrongdoers, when they see the punishment, saying, "Is there for return [to the former world] any way?"

42:45
Ayah 42:45
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا خَـٰشِعِينَ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ يَنظُرُونَ مِن طَرْفٍ خَفِىٍّ ۗ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ فِى عَذَابٍ مُّقِيمٍ
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ
watarāhum
And you will see them
يُعْرَضُونَ
yuʿ'raḍūna
being exposed
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
to it
خَـٰشِعِينَ
khāshiʿīna
humbled
مِنَ
mina
by
ٱلذُّلِّ
l-dhuli
disgrace
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
looking
مِن
min
with
طَرْفٍ
ṭarfin
a glance
خَفِىٍّ
khafiyyin
stealthy
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And will say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanū
believed
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
l-khāsirīna
the losers
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(are) those who
خَسِرُوٓا۟
khasirū
lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahum
themselves
وَأَهْلِيهِمْ
wa-ahlīhim
and their families
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
أَلَآ
alā
Unquestionably
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
فِى
(are) in
عَذَابٍ
ʿadhābin
a punishment
مُّقِيمٍ
muqīmin
lasting
And you will see them being exposed to it [i.e., the Fire], humbled from humiliation, looking from [behind] a covert glance. And those who had believed will say, "Indeed, the [true] losers are the ones who lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, the wrongdoers are in an enduring punishment."

42:46
Ayah 42:46
وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ يَنصُرُونَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن سَبِيلٍ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَانَ
kāna
will be
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مِّنْ
min
any
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa
protector
يَنصُرُونَهُم
yanṣurūnahum
(who) will help them
مِّن
min
besides
دُونِ
dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
وَمَن
waman
And whom
يُضْلِلِ
yuḍ'lili
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا
famā
then not
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
مِن
min
any
سَبِيلٍ
sabīlin
way
And there will not be for them any allies to aid them other than Allāh. And whoever Allāh sends astray - for him there is no way.

42:47
Ayah 42:47
ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لِرَبِّكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ يَوْمٌ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ مَا لَكُم مِّن مَّلْجَإٍ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّكِيرٍ
ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟
is'tajībū
Respond
لِرَبِّكُم
lirabbikum
to your Lord
مِّن
min
before
قَبْلِ
qabli
before
أَن
an
[that]
يَأْتِىَ
yatiya
comes
يَوْمٌ
yawmun
a Day
لَّا
(there is) no
مَرَدَّ
maradda
averting
لَهُۥ
lahu
for it
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
مَا
Not
لَكُم
lakum
(is) for you
مِّن
min
any
مَّلْجَإٍ
malja-in
refuge
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
(on) that Day
وَمَا
wamā
and not
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّن
min
any
نَّكِيرٍ
nakīrin
denial
Respond to your Lord before a Day comes from Allāh of which there is no repelling. No refuge will you have that Day, nor for you will there be any denial.1

42:48
Ayah 42:48
فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا۟ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا ۖ إِنْ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ وَإِنَّآ إِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً فَرِحَ بِهَا ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ فَإِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ كَفُورٌ
فَإِنْ
fa-in
Then if
أَعْرَضُوا۟
aʿraḍū
they turn away
فَمَآ
famā
then not
أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ
arsalnāka
We have sent you
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
over them
حَفِيظًا
ḥafīẓan
(as) a guardian
إِنْ
in
Not
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
(is) on you
إِلَّا
illā
except
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ
l-balāghu
the conveyance
وَإِنَّآ
wa-innā
And indeed
إِذَآ
idhā
when
أَذَقْنَا
adhaqnā
We cause to taste
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
l-insāna
[the] man
مِنَّا
minnā
from Us
رَحْمَةً
raḥmatan
Mercy
فَرِحَ
fariḥa
he rejoices
بِهَا
bihā
in it
وَإِن
wa-in
But if
تُصِبْهُمْ
tuṣib'hum
befalls them
سَيِّئَةٌۢ
sayyi-atun
evil
بِمَا
bimā
for what
قَدَّمَتْ
qaddamat
have sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
their hands
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
l-insāna
[the] man
كَفُورٌ
kafūrun
(is) ungrateful
But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from Us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful.

42:49
Ayah 42:49
لِّلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ يَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ إِنَـٰثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ٱلذُّكُورَ
لِّلَّهِ
lillahi
To Allah
مُلْكُ
mul'ku
(belongs the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍi
and the earth
يَخْلُقُ
yakhluqu
He creates
مَا
what
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
يَهَبُ
yahabu
He grants
لِمَن
liman
to whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
إِنَـٰثًا
ināthan
females
وَيَهَبُ
wayahabu
and He grants
لِمَن
liman
to whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
ٱلذُّكُورَ
l-dhukūra
[the] males
To Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what He wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.

42:50
Ayah 42:50
أَوْ يُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَانًا وَإِنَـٰثًا ۖ وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَآءُ عَقِيمًا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ
أَوْ
aw
Or
يُزَوِّجُهُمْ
yuzawwijuhum
He grants them
ذُكْرَانًا
dhuk'rānan
males
وَإِنَـٰثًا
wa-ināthan
and females
وَيَجْعَلُ
wayajʿalu
and He makes
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
عَقِيمًا
ʿaqīman
barren
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmun
(is) All-Knower
قَدِيرٌ
qadīrun
All-Powerful
Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent.

42:51
Ayah 42:51
۞ وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا أَوْ مِن وَرَآئِ حِجَابٍ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ رَسُولًا فَيُوحِىَ بِإِذْنِهِۦ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِىٌّ حَكِيمٌ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
كَانَ
kāna
is
لِبَشَرٍ
libasharin
for any human
أَن
an
that
يُكَلِّمَهُ
yukallimahu
Allah should speak to him
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah should speak to him
إِلَّا
illā
except
وَحْيًا
waḥyan
(by) revelation
أَوْ
aw
or
مِن
min
from
وَرَآئِ
warāi
behind
حِجَابٍ
ḥijābin
a veil
أَوْ
aw
or
يُرْسِلَ
yur'sila
(by) sending
رَسُولًا
rasūlan
a messenger
فَيُوحِىَ
fayūḥiya
then he reveals
بِإِذْنِهِۦ
bi-idh'nihi
by His permission
مَا
what
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
He wills
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
عَلِىٌّ
ʿaliyyun
(is) Most High
حَكِيمٌ
ḥakīmun
Most Wise
And it is not for any human being that Allāh should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger [i.e., angel] to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise.

42:52
Ayah 42:52
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ رُوحًا مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِى مَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ وَلَا ٱلْإِيمَـٰنُ وَلَـٰكِن جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُورًا نَّهْدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālika
And thus
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynā
We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
رُوحًا
rūḥan
an inspiration
مِّنْ
min
by
أَمْرِنَا
amrinā
Our Command
مَا
Not
كُنتَ
kunta
(did) you
تَدْرِى
tadrī
know
مَا
what
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ
l-kitābu
the Book (is)
وَلَا
walā
and not
ٱلْإِيمَـٰنُ
l-īmānu
the faith
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin
But
جَعَلْنَـٰهُ
jaʿalnāhu
We have made it
نُورًا
nūran
a light
نَّهْدِى
nahdī
We guide
بِهِۦ
bihi
with it
مَن
man
whom
نَّشَآءُ
nashāu
We will
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِنَا
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
وَإِنَّكَ
wa-innaka
And indeed, you
لَتَهْدِىٓ
latahdī
surely guide
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
صِرَٰطٍ
ṣirāṭin
(the) Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
mus'taqīmin
Straight
And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command [i.e., the Qur’ān]. You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muḥammad], you guide to a straight path -

42:53
Ayah 42:53
صِرَٰطِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَلَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلْأُمُورُ
صِرَٰطِ
ṣirāṭi
(The) path
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
the One
لَهُۥ
lahu
to Whom
مَا
(belongs) whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَا
wamā
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
أَلَآ
alā
Unquestionably
إِلَى
ilā
To
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
تَصِيرُ
taṣīru
reach
ٱلْأُمُورُ
l-umūru
all affairs
