47:1
Ayah 47:1
ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟
waṣaddū
and turn away
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
أَضَلَّ
aḍalla
He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahum
their deeds
Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allāh - He will waste their deeds.1

47:2
Ayah 47:2
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ كَفَّرَ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَأَصْلَحَ بَالَهُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
وَءَامَنُوا۟
waāmanū
and believe
بِمَا
bimā
in what
نُزِّلَ
nuzzila
is revealed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
to
مُحَمَّدٍ
muḥammadin
Muhammad
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and it
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
كَفَّرَ
kaffara
He will remove
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhum
from them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ
sayyiātihim
their misdeeds
وَأَصْلَحَ
wa-aṣlaḥa
and improve
بَالَهُمْ
bālahum
their condition
And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muḥammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.

47:3
Ayah 47:3
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ
bi-anna
(is) because
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
ittabaʿū
follow
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ
l-bāṭila
falsehood
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
ittabaʿū
follow
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa
(the) truth
مِن
min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālika
Thus
يَضْرِبُ
yaḍribu
Allah presents
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah presents
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsi
to the people
أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ
amthālahum
their similitudes
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allāh present to the people their comparisons.1

47:4
Ayah 47:4
فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرْبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلْوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّۢا بَعْدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَآءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
So when
لَقِيتُمُ
laqītumu
you meet
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
فَضَرْبَ
faḍarba
then strike
ٱلرِّقَابِ
l-riqābi
the necks
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَآ
idhā
when
أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ
athkhantumūhum
you have subdued them
فَشُدُّوا۟
fashuddū
then bind firmly
ٱلْوَثَاقَ
l-wathāqa
the bond
فَإِمَّا
fa-immā
then either
مَنًّۢا
mannan
a favor
بَعْدُ
baʿdu
afterwards
وَإِمَّا
wa-immā
or
فِدَآءً
fidāan
ransom
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
تَضَعَ
taḍaʿa
lays down
ٱلْحَرْبُ
l-ḥarbu
the war
أَوْزَارَهَا
awzārahā
its burdens
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
يَشَآءُ
yashāu
Allah had willed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah had willed
لَٱنتَصَرَ
la-intaṣara
surely, He could have taken retribution
مِنْهُمْ
min'hum
from them
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin
but
لِّيَبْلُوَا۟
liyabluwā
to test
بَعْضَكُم
baʿḍakum
some of you
بِبَعْضٍ
bibaʿḍin
with others
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
قُتِلُوا۟
qutilū
are killed
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
فَلَن
falan
then never
يُضِلَّ
yuḍilla
He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahum
their deeds
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds,1 and either [confer] favor2 afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens.3 That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.

47:5
Ayah 47:5
سَيَهْدِيهِمْ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَهُمْ
سَيَهْدِيهِمْ
sayahdīhim
He will guide them
وَيُصْلِحُ
wayuṣ'liḥu
and improve
بَالَهُمْ
bālahum
their condition
He will guide them and amend their condition

47:6
Ayah 47:6
وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ عَرَّفَهَا لَهُمْ
وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ
wayud'khiluhumu
And admit them
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janata
(to) Paradise
عَرَّفَهَا
ʿarrafahā
He has made it known
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them.

47:7
Ayah 47:7
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
O you who believe
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanū
O you who believe
إِن
in
If
تَنصُرُوا۟
tanṣurū
you help
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
يَنصُرْكُمْ
yanṣur'kum
He will help you
وَيُثَبِّتْ
wayuthabbit
and make firm
أَقْدَامَكُمْ
aqdāmakum
your feet
O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.

47:8
Ayah 47:8
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعْسًا لَّهُمْ وَأَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
But those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
فَتَعْسًا
fataʿsan
destruction (is)
لَّهُمْ
lahum
for them
وَأَضَلَّ
wa-aḍalla
and He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahum
their deeds
But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds.

47:9
Ayah 47:9
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum
(is) because they
كَرِهُوا۟
karihū
hate
مَآ
what
أَنزَلَ
anzala
Allah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has revealed
فَأَحْبَطَ
fa-aḥbaṭa
so He has made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahum
their deeds
That is because they disliked what Allāh revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.

47:10
Ayah 47:10
۞ أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَـٰلُهَا
أَفَلَمْ
afalam
Do not
يَسِيرُوا۟
yasīrū
they travel
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟
fayanẓurū
and see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
كَانَ
kāna
was
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those
مِن
min
before them
قَبْلِهِمْ
qablihim
before them
دَمَّرَ
dammara
Allah destroyed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
[over] them
وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
walil'kāfirīna
and for the disbelievers
أَمْثَـٰلُهَا
amthāluhā
its likeness
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allāh destroyed [everything] over them,1 and for the disbelievers is something comparable.

47:11
Ayah 47:11
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَأَنَّ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَا مَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّ
bi-anna
(is) because
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
مَوْلَى
mawlā
(is the) Protector
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(of) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
and that
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
لَا
(there is) no
مَوْلَىٰ
mawlā
protector
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
That is because Allāh is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector.

47:12
Ayah 47:12
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَيَأْكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ وَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَّهُمْ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
يُدْخِلُ
yud'khilu
will admit
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍ
jannātin
(to) Gardens
تَجْرِى
tajrī
flow
مِن
min
from
تَحْتِهَا
taḥtihā
underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāru
the rivers
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
but those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
يَتَمَتَّعُونَ
yatamattaʿūna
they enjoy
وَيَأْكُلُونَ
wayakulūna
and eat
كَمَا
kamā
as
تَأْكُلُ
takulu
eat
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ
l-anʿāmu
the cattle
وَٱلنَّارُ
wal-nāru
and the Fire
مَثْوًى
mathwan
(will be) an abode
لَّهُمْ
lahum
for them
Indeed, Allāh will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.

47:13
Ayah 47:13
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ هِىَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةً مِّن قَرْيَتِكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ
وَكَأَيِّن
waka-ayyin
And how many
مِّن
min
of
قَرْيَةٍ
qaryatin
a town
هِىَ
hiya
which
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu
(was) stronger
قُوَّةً
quwwatan
(in) strength
مِّن
min
than
قَرْيَتِكَ
qaryatika
your town
ٱلَّتِىٓ
allatī
which
أَخْرَجَتْكَ
akhrajatka
has driven you out
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ
ahlaknāhum
We destroyed them
فَلَا
falā
so no
نَاصِرَ
nāṣira
helper
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
And how many a city was stronger than your city [i.e., Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.

47:14
Ayah 47:14
أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُم
أَفَمَن
afaman
Then is (he) who
كَانَ
kāna
is
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
بَيِّنَةٍ
bayyinatin
a clear proof
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّهِۦ
rabbihi
his Lord
كَمَن
kaman
like (he) who
زُيِّنَ
zuyyina
is made attractive
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
سُوٓءُ
sūu
(the) evil
عَمَلِهِۦ
ʿamalihi
(of) his deeds
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟
wa-ittabaʿū
while they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُم
ahwāahum
their desires
So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?

47:15
Ayah 47:15
مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَآ أَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّن مَّآءٍ غَيْرِ ءَاسِنٍ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّن لَّبَنٍ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُۥ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّنْ خَمْرٍ لَّذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّنْ عَسَلٍ مُّصَفًّى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَـٰلِدٌ فِى ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَآءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَآءَهُمْ
مَّثَلُ
mathalu
A parable
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati
(of) Paradise
ٱلَّتِى
allatī
which
وُعِدَ
wuʿida
is promised
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ
l-mutaqūna
(to) the righteous
فِيهَآ
fīhā
Therein
أَنْهَـٰرٌ
anhārun
(are) rivers
مِّن
min
of
مَّآءٍ
māin
water
غَيْرِ
ghayri
not
ءَاسِنٍ
āsinin
polluted
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ
wa-anhārun
and rivers
مِّن
min
of
لَّبَنٍ
labanin
milk
لَّمْ
lam
not
يَتَغَيَّرْ
yataghayyar
changes
طَعْمُهُۥ
ṭaʿmuhu
its taste
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ
wa-anhārun
and rivers
مِّنْ
min
of
خَمْرٍ
khamrin
wine
لَّذَّةٍ
ladhatin
delicious
لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ
lilshāribīna
for (the) drinkers
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ
wa-anhārun
and rivers
مِّنْ
min
of
عَسَلٍ
ʿasalin
honey
مُّصَفًّى
muṣaffan
purified
وَلَهُمْ
walahum
and for them
فِيهَا
fīhā
therein
مِن
min
of
كُلِّ
kulli
all
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
l-thamarāti
fruits
وَمَغْفِرَةٌ
wamaghfiratun
and forgiveness
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
كَمَنْ
kaman
like he who
هُوَ
huwa
like he who
خَـٰلِدٌ
khālidun
(will) abide forever
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri
the Fire
وَسُقُوا۟
wasuqū
and they will be given to drink
مَآءً
māan
water
حَمِيمًا
ḥamīman
boiling
فَقَطَّعَ
faqaṭṭaʿa
so it cuts into pieces
أَمْعَآءَهُمْ
amʿāahum
their intestines
Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered,1 rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord... [Are its inhabitants] like those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

47:16
Ayah 47:16
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
وَمِنْهُم
wamin'hum
And among them
مَّن
man
(are some) who
يَسْتَمِعُ
yastamiʿu
listen
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattā
until
إِذَا
idhā
when
خَرَجُوا۟
kharajū
they depart
مِنْ
min
from
عِندِكَ
ʿindika
you
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they say
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those who
أُوتُوا۟
ūtū
were given
ٱلْعِلْمَ
l-ʿil'ma
the knowledge
مَاذَا
mādhā
What
قَالَ
qāla
(has) he said
ءَانِفًا
ānifan
just now
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(are) the ones
طَبَعَ
ṭabaʿa
Allah has set a seal
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has set a seal
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihim
their hearts
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟
wa-ittabaʿū
and they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
ahwāahum
their desires
And among them, [O Muḥammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge,1 "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allāh has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires.

47:17
Ayah 47:17
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ تَقْوَىٰهُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
And those who
ٱهْتَدَوْا۟
ih'tadaw
accept guidance
زَادَهُمْ
zādahum
He increases them
هُدًى
hudan
(in) guidance
وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ
waātāhum
and gives them
تَقْوَىٰهُمْ
taqwāhum
their righteousness
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.1

47:18
Ayah 47:18
فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً ۖ فَقَدْ جَآءَ أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمْ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ
فَهَلْ
fahal
Then do
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
they wait
إِلَّا
illā
but
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata
(for) the Hour
أَن
an
that
تَأْتِيَهُم
tatiyahum
it should come to them
بَغْتَةً
baghtatan
suddenly
فَقَدْ
faqad
But indeed
جَآءَ
jāa
have come
أَشْرَاطُهَا
ashrāṭuhā
its indications
فَأَنَّىٰ
fa-annā
Then how
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
إِذَا
idhā
when
جَآءَتْهُمْ
jāathum
has come to them
ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ
dhik'rāhum
their reminder
Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then how [i.e., what good] to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?

47:19
Ayah 47:19
فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ
فَٱعْلَمْ
fa-iʿ'lam
So know
أَنَّهُۥ
annahu
that [He]
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāha
god
إِلَّا
illā
but
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ
wa-is'taghfir
and ask forgiveness
لِذَنۢبِكَ
lidhanbika
for your sin
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
walil'mu'minīna
and for the believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ
wal-mu'mināti
and the believing women
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
knows
مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ
mutaqallabakum
your movement
وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ
wamathwākum
and your resting places
So know, [O Muḥammad], that there is no deity except Allāh and ask forgiveness for your sin1 and for the believing men and believing women. And Allāh knows of your movement and your resting place.

47:20
Ayah 47:20
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَتْ سُورَةٌ ۖ فَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ مُّحْكَمَةٌ وَذُكِرَ فِيهَا ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙ رَأَيْتَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ نَظَرَ ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ فَأَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ
وَيَقُولُ
wayaqūlu
And say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
لَوْلَا
lawlā
Why not
نُزِّلَتْ
nuzzilat
has been revealed
سُورَةٌ
sūratun
a Surah
فَإِذَآ
fa-idhā
But when
أُنزِلَتْ
unzilat
is revealed
سُورَةٌ
sūratun
a Surah
مُّحْكَمَةٌ
muḥ'kamatun
precise
وَذُكِرَ
wadhukira
and is mentioned
فِيهَا
fīhā
in it
ٱلْقِتَالُ
l-qitālu
the fighting
رَأَيْتَ
ra-ayta
you see
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
فِى
in
قُلُوبِهِم
qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّرَضٌ
maraḍun
(is) a disease
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
looking
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
at you
نَظَرَ
naẓara
a look
ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ
l-maghshiyi
(of) one fainting
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
(of) one fainting
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْمَوْتِ
l-mawti
the death
فَأَوْلَىٰ
fa-awlā
But more appropriate
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
Those who believe say, "Why has a sūrah1 not been sent down?" But when a precise sūrah is revealed and battle is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them2 [would have been]

47:21
Ayah 47:21
طَاعَةٌ وَقَوْلٌ مَّعْرُوفٌ ۚ فَإِذَا عَزَمَ ٱلْأَمْرُ فَلَوْ صَدَقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ
طَاعَةٌ
ṭāʿatun
(Is) obedience
وَقَوْلٌ
waqawlun
and a word
مَّعْرُوفٌ
maʿrūfun
kind
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
And when
عَزَمَ
ʿazama
(is) determined
ٱلْأَمْرُ
l-amru
the matter
فَلَوْ
falaw
then if
صَدَقُوا۟
ṣadaqū
they had been true
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
(to) Allah
لَكَانَ
lakāna
surely, it would have been
خَيْرًا
khayran
better
لَّهُمْ
lahum
for them
Obedience and good words. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined, if they had been true to Allāh, it would have been better for them.

47:22
Ayah 47:22
فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَن تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟ أَرْحَامَكُمْ
فَهَلْ
fahal
Then would
عَسَيْتُمْ
ʿasaytum
you perhaps
إِن
in
if
تَوَلَّيْتُمْ
tawallaytum
you are given authority
أَن
an
that
تُفْسِدُوا۟
tuf'sidū
you cause corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟
watuqaṭṭiʿū
and cut off
أَرْحَامَكُمْ
arḥāmakum
your ties of kinship
So would you perhaps, if you turned away,1 cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?

47:23
Ayah 47:23
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَىٰٓ أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(are) the ones
لَعَنَهُمُ
laʿanahumu
Allah has cursed them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has cursed them
فَأَصَمَّهُمْ
fa-aṣammahum
so He made them deaf
وَأَعْمَىٰٓ
wa-aʿmā
and blinded
أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ
abṣārahum
their vision
Those [who do so] are the ones that Allāh has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.

47:24
Ayah 47:24
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ
أَفَلَا
afalā
Then do not
يَتَدَبَّرُونَ
yatadabbarūna
they ponder
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
l-qur'āna
(over) the Quran
أَمْ
am
or
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
upon
قُلُوبٍ
qulūbin
(their) hearts
أَقْفَالُهَآ
aqfāluhā
(are) locks
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?

47:25
Ayah 47:25
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱرْتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَى ۙ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمْ وَأَمْلَىٰ لَهُمْ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ٱرْتَدُّوا۟
ir'taddū
return
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
أَدْبَـٰرِهِم
adbārihim
their backs
مِّنۢ
min
after
بَعْدِ
baʿdi
after
مَا
what
تَبَيَّنَ
tabayyana
(has) become clear
لَهُمُ
lahumu
to them
ٱلْهُدَى
l-hudā
(of) the guidance
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan
سَوَّلَ
sawwala
enticed
لَهُمْ
lahum
[for] them
وَأَمْلَىٰ
wa-amlā
and prolonged hope
لَهُمْ
lahum
for them
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.

47:26
Ayah 47:26
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ كَرِهُوا۟ مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ سَنُطِيعُكُمْ فِى بَعْضِ ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِسْرَارَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum
(is) because they
قَالُوا۟
qālū
[they] said
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
to those who
كَرِهُوا۟
karihū
hate
مَا
what
نَزَّلَ
nazzala
Allah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah has revealed
سَنُطِيعُكُمْ
sanuṭīʿukum
We will obey you
فِى
in
بَعْضِ
baʿḍi
part
ٱلْأَمْرِ
l-amri
(of) the matter
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
But Allah
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
knows
إِسْرَارَهُمْ
is'rārahum
their secrets
That is because they said to those who disliked what Allāh sent down,1 "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allāh knows what they conceal.

47:27
Ayah 47:27
فَكَيْفَ إِذَا تَوَفَّتْهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَضْرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ
فَكَيْفَ
fakayfa
Then how
إِذَا
idhā
when
تَوَفَّتْهُمُ
tawaffathumu
take them in death
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
l-malāikatu
the Angels
يَضْرِبُونَ
yaḍribūna
striking
وُجُوهَهُمْ
wujūhahum
their faces
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ
wa-adbārahum
and their backs
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
47:28
Ayah 47:28
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَآ أَسْخَطَ ٱللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا۟ رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمُ
bi-annahumu
(is) because they
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
ittabaʿū
followed
مَآ
what
أَسْخَطَ
askhaṭa
angered
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
وَكَرِهُوا۟
wakarihū
and hated
رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ
riḍ'wānahu
His pleasure
فَأَحْبَطَ
fa-aḥbaṭa
so He made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahum
their deeds
That is because they followed what angered Allāh and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.

47:29
Ayah 47:29
أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَن لَّن يُخْرِجَ ٱللَّهُ أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْ
أَمْ
am
Or do
حَسِبَ
ḥasiba
think
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
فِى
in
قُلُوبِهِم
qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّرَضٌ
maraḍun
(is) a disease
أَن
an
that
لَّن
lan
never
يُخْرِجَ
yukh'rija
will Allah bring forth
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
will Allah bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْ
aḍghānahum
their hatred
Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allāh would never expose their [feelings of] hatred?

47:30
Ayah 47:30
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْ فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚ وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ فِى لَحْنِ ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
وَلَوْ
walaw
And if
نَشَآءُ
nashāu
We willed
لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْ
la-araynākahum
surely, We could show them to you
فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم
falaʿaraftahum
and you would know them
بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ
bisīmāhum
by their marks
وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ
walataʿrifannahum
but surely, you will know them
فِى
by
لَحْنِ
laḥni
(the) tone
ٱلْقَوْلِ
l-qawli
(of their) speech
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamu
knows
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
aʿmālakum
your deeds
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allāh knows your deeds.

47:31
Ayah 47:31
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ مِنكُمْ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ وَنَبْلُوَا۟ أَخْبَارَكُمْ
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ
walanabluwannakum
And surely We will test you
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
until
نَعْلَمَ
naʿlama
We make evident
ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ
l-mujāhidīna
those who strive
مِنكُمْ
minkum
among you
وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
wal-ṣābirīna
and the patient ones
وَنَبْلُوَا۟
wanabluwā
and We will test
أَخْبَارَكُمْ
akhbārakum
your affairs
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allāh] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.

47:32
Ayah 47:32
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَشَآقُّوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا وَسَيُحْبِطُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟
waṣaddū
and turn away
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
وَشَآقُّوا۟
washāqqū
and oppose
ٱلرَّسُولَ
l-rasūla
the Messenger
مِنۢ
min
after
بَعْدِ
baʿdi
after
مَا
[what]
تَبَيَّنَ
tabayyana
(has been) made clear
لَهُمُ
lahumu
to them
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudā
the guidance
لَن
lan
never
يَضُرُّوا۟
yaḍurrū
will they harm
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
(in) anything
وَسَيُحْبِطُ
wasayuḥ'biṭu
and He will make worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahum
their deeds
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allāh at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.

47:33
Ayah 47:33
۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبْطِلُوٓا۟ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
O you who believe
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanū
O you who believe
أَطِيعُوا۟
aṭīʿū
Obey
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟
wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ
l-rasūla
the Messenger
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تُبْطِلُوٓا۟
tub'ṭilū
make vain
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
aʿmālakum
your deeds
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.

47:34
Ayah 47:34
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟
waṣaddū
and turn away
عَن
ʿan
from
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
مَاتُوا۟
mātū
died
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
كُفَّارٌ
kuffārun
(were) disbelievers
فَلَن
falan
never
يَغْفِرَ
yaghfira
will Allah forgive
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
will Allah forgive
لَهُمْ
lahum
them
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allāh forgive them.
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
47:35
Ayah 47:35
فَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَتَدْعُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّلْمِ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَكُمْ وَلَن يَتِرَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
فَلَا
falā
So (do) not
تَهِنُوا۟
tahinū
weaken
وَتَدْعُوٓا۟
watadʿū
and call
إِلَى
ilā
for
ٱلسَّلْمِ
l-salmi
peace
وَأَنتُمُ
wa-antumu
while you
ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ
l-aʿlawna
(are) superior
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
and Allah
مَعَكُمْ
maʿakum
(is) with you
وَلَن
walan
and never
يَتِرَكُمْ
yatirakum
will deprive you
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
aʿmālakum
(of) your deeds
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allāh is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.

47:36
Ayah 47:36
إِنَّمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ ۚ وَإِن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ يُؤْتِكُمْ أُجُورَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
l-ḥayatu
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
لَعِبٌ
laʿibun
(is) play
وَلَهْوٌ
walahwun
and amusement
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
تُؤْمِنُوا۟
tu'minū
you believe
وَتَتَّقُوا۟
watattaqū
and fear (Allah)
يُؤْتِكُمْ
yu'tikum
He will give you
أُجُورَكُمْ
ujūrakum
your rewards
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ
yasalkum
will ask you
أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ
amwālakum
(for) your wealth
[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allāh, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties.

47:37
Ayah 47:37
إِن يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا فَيُحْفِكُمْ تَبْخَلُوا۟ وَيُخْرِجْ أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْ
إِن
in
If
يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا
yasalkumūhā
He were to ask you for it
فَيُحْفِكُمْ
fayuḥ'fikum
and press you
تَبْخَلُوا۟
tabkhalū
you will withhold
وَيُخْرِجْ
wayukh'rij
and He will bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْ
aḍghānakum
your hatred
If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your hatred [i.e., unwillingness].

47:38
Ayah 47:38
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ تُدْعَوْنَ لِتُنفِقُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن يَبْخَلُ ۖ وَمَن يَبْخَلْ فَإِنَّمَا يَبْخَلُ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْغَنِىُّ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚ وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُونُوٓا۟ أَمْثَـٰلَكُم
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ
hāantum
Here you are
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāi
these
تُدْعَوْنَ
tud'ʿawna
called
لِتُنفِقُوا۟
litunfiqū
to spend
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
فَمِنكُم
faminkum
but among you
مَّن
man
(are some) who
يَبْخَلُ
yabkhalu
withhold
وَمَن
waman
and whoever
يَبْخَلْ
yabkhal
withholds
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innamā
then only
يَبْخَلُ
yabkhalu
he withholds
عَن
ʿan
from
نَّفْسِهِۦ
nafsihi
himself
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
But Allah
ٱلْغَنِىُّ
l-ghaniyu
(is) Free of need
وَأَنتُمُ
wa-antumu
while you
ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ
l-fuqarāu
(are) the needy
وَإِن
wa-in
And if
تَتَوَلَّوْا۟
tatawallaw
you turn away
يَسْتَبْدِلْ
yastabdil
He will replace you
قَوْمًا
qawman
(with) a people
غَيْرَكُمْ
ghayrakum
other than you
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
لَا
not
يَكُونُوٓا۟
yakūnū
they will be
أَمْثَـٰلَكُم
amthālakum
(the) likes of you
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allāh - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allāh is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away [i.e., refuse], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
