66:1
Ayah 66:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكَ ۖ تَبْتَغِى مَرْضَاتَ أَزْوَٰجِكَ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّبِىُّ
l-nabiyu
Prophet
لِمَ
lima
Why (do)
تُحَرِّمُ
tuḥarrimu
you prohibit
مَآ
what
أَحَلَّ
aḥalla
has made lawful
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
لَكَ
laka
for you
تَبْتَغِى
tabtaghī
seeking
مَرْضَاتَ
marḍāta
(to) please
أَزْوَٰجِكَ
azwājika
your wives
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
غَفُورٌ
ghafūrun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
raḥīmun
Most Merciful
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allāh has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

66:2
Ayah 66:2
قَدْ فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
قَدْ
qad
Indeed
فَرَضَ
faraḍa
has ordained
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
تَحِلَّةَ
taḥillata
(the) dissolution
أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْ
aymānikum
(of) your oaths
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
مَوْلَىٰكُمْ
mawlākum
(is) your Protector
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and He
ٱلْعَلِيمُ
l-ʿalīmu
(is) the All-Knower
ٱلْحَكِيمُ
l-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise
Allāh has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths.1 And Allāh is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise.

66:3
Ayah 66:3
وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِلَىٰ بَعْضِ أَزْوَٰجِهِۦ حَدِيثًا فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَتْ بِهِۦ وَأَظْهَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَرَّفَ بَعْضَهُۥ وَأَعْرَضَ عَنۢ بَعْضٍ ۖ فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَهَا بِهِۦ قَالَتْ مَنْ أَنۢبَأَكَ هَـٰذَا ۖ قَالَ نَبَّأَنِىَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
أَسَرَّ
asarra
confided
ٱلنَّبِىُّ
l-nabiyu
the Prophet
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
بَعْضِ
baʿḍi
one
أَزْوَٰجِهِۦ
azwājihi
(of) his wives
حَدِيثًا
ḥadīthan
a statement
فَلَمَّا
falammā
and when
نَبَّأَتْ
nabba-at
she informed
بِهِۦ
bihi
about it
وَأَظْهَرَهُ
wa-aẓharahu
and made it apparent
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
عَرَّفَ
ʿarrafa
he made known
بَعْضَهُۥ
baʿḍahu
a part of it
وَأَعْرَضَ
wa-aʿraḍa
and avoided
عَنۢ
ʿan
[of]
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍin
a part
فَلَمَّا
falammā
Then when
نَبَّأَهَا
nabba-ahā
he informed her
بِهِۦ
bihi
about it
قَالَتْ
qālat
she said
مَنْ
man
Who
أَنۢبَأَكَ
anba-aka
informed you
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
قَالَ
qāla
He said
نَبَّأَنِىَ
nabba-aniya
Has informed me
ٱلْعَلِيمُ
l-ʿalīmu
the All-Knower
ٱلْخَبِيرُ
l-khabīru
the All-Aware
And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allāh showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Aware."

66:4
Ayah 66:4
إِن تَتُوبَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَا ۖ وَإِن تَظَـٰهَرَا عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ مَوْلَىٰهُ وَجِبْرِيلُ وَصَـٰلِحُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ ظَهِيرٌ
إِن
in
If
تَتُوبَآ
tatūbā
you both turn
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
فَقَدْ
faqad
so indeed
صَغَتْ
ṣaghat
(are) inclined
قُلُوبُكُمَا
qulūbukumā
your hearts
وَإِن
wa-in
but if
تَظَـٰهَرَا
taẓāharā
you backup each other
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
against him
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
هُوَ
huwa
He
مَوْلَىٰهُ
mawlāhu
(is) his Protector
وَجِبْرِيلُ
wajib'rīlu
and Jibreel
وَصَـٰلِحُ
waṣāliḥu
and (the) righteous
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna
believers
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
wal-malāikatu
and the Angels
بَعْدَ
baʿda
after
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
ظَهِيرٌ
ẓahīrun
(are his) assistants
If you two [wives] repent to Allāh, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allāh is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.

66:5
Ayah 66:5
عَسَىٰ رَبُّهُۥٓ إِن طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَن يُبْدِلَهُۥٓ أَزْوَٰجًا خَيْرًا مِّنكُنَّ مُسْلِمَـٰتٍ مُّؤْمِنَـٰتٍ قَـٰنِتَـٰتٍ تَـٰٓئِبَـٰتٍ عَـٰبِدَٰتٍ سَـٰٓئِحَـٰتٍ ثَيِّبَـٰتٍ وَأَبْكَارًا
عَسَىٰ
ʿasā
Perhaps
رَبُّهُۥٓ
rabbuhu
his Lord
إِن
in
if
طَلَّقَكُنَّ
ṭallaqakunna
he divorced you
أَن
an
[that]
يُبْدِلَهُۥٓ
yub'dilahu
He will substitute for him
أَزْوَٰجًا
azwājan
wives
خَيْرًا
khayran
better
مِّنكُنَّ
minkunna
than you
مُسْلِمَـٰتٍ
mus'limātin
submissive
مُّؤْمِنَـٰتٍ
mu'minātin
faithful
قَـٰنِتَـٰتٍ
qānitātin
obedient
تَـٰٓئِبَـٰتٍ
tāibātin
repentant
عَـٰبِدَٰتٍ
ʿābidātin
who worship
سَـٰٓئِحَـٰتٍ
sāiḥātin
who fast
ثَيِّبَـٰتٍ
thayyibātin
previously married
وَأَبْكَارًا
wa-abkāran
and virgins
Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allāh], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling1 - [ones] previously married and virgins.

66:6
Ayah 66:6
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُونَ ٱللَّهَ مَآ أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(you) who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
قُوٓا۟
Protect
أَنفُسَكُمْ
anfusakum
yourselves
وَأَهْلِيكُمْ
wa-ahlīkum
and your families
نَارًا
nāran
(from) a Fire
وَقُودُهَا
waqūduhā
whose fuel
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsu
(is) people
وَٱلْحِجَارَةُ
wal-ḥijāratu
and stones
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā
over it
مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌ
malāikatun
(are) Angels
غِلَاظٌ
ghilāẓun
stern
شِدَادٌ
shidādun
severe
لَّا
not
يَعْصُونَ
yaʿṣūna
they disobey
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
مَآ
(in) what
أَمَرَهُمْ
amarahum
He Commands them
وَيَفْعَلُونَ
wayafʿalūna
but they do
مَا
what
يُؤْمَرُونَ
yu'marūna
they are commanded
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allāh in what He commands them but do what they are commanded.

66:7
Ayah 66:7
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(you) who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieve
لَا
(Do) not
تَعْتَذِرُوا۟
taʿtadhirū
make excuses
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawma
today
إِنَّمَا
innamā
Only
تُجْزَوْنَ
tuj'zawna
you will be recompensed
مَا
(for) what
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you used to
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūna
do
O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses that Day. You will only be recompensed for what you used to do.

66:8
Ayah 66:8
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ ۖ نُورُهُمْ يَسْعَىٰ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
(you) who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
تُوبُوٓا۟
tūbū
Turn
إِلَى
ilā
to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
تَوْبَةً
tawbatan
(in) repentance
نَّصُوحًا
naṣūḥan
sincere
عَسَىٰ
ʿasā
Perhaps
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
your Lord
أَن
an
will
يُكَفِّرَ
yukaffira
remove
عَنكُمْ
ʿankum
from you
سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ
sayyiātikum
your evil deeds
وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ
wayud'khilakum
and admit you
جَنَّـٰتٍ
jannātin
(into) Gardens
تَجْرِى
tajrī
flow
مِن
min
from
تَحْتِهَا
taḥtihā
underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāru
the rivers
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
لَا
not
يُخْزِى
yukh'zī
will be disgraced
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(by) Allah
ٱلنَّبِىَّ
l-nabiya
the Prophet
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahu
with him
نُورُهُمْ
nūruhum
Their light
يَسْعَىٰ
yasʿā
will run
بَيْنَ
bayna
before
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim
their hands
وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ
wabi-aymānihim
and on their right
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna
they will say
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanā
Our Lord
أَتْمِمْ
atmim
Perfect
لَنَا
lanā
for us
نُورَنَا
nūranā
our light
وَٱغْفِرْ
wa-igh'fir
and grant forgiveness
لَنَآ
lanā
to us
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, You
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
(are) over
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَىْءٍ
shayin
thing
قَدِيرٌ
qadīrun
All-Powerful
O you who have believed, repent to Allāh with sincere repentance. Perhaps1 your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allāh will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent."

66:9
Ayah 66:9
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ جَـٰهِدِ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ وَٱغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلنَّبِىُّ
l-nabiyu
Prophet
جَـٰهِدِ
jāhidi
Strive
ٱلْكُفَّارَ
l-kufāra
(against) the disbelievers
وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ
wal-munāfiqīna
and the hypocrites
وَٱغْلُظْ
wa-ugh'luẓ
and be stern
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
with them
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ
wamawāhum
And their abode
جَهَنَّمُ
jahannamu
(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَ
wabi'sa
and wretched is
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
l-maṣīru
the destination
O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.

66:10
Ayah 66:10
ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱمْرَأَتَ نُوحٍ وَٱمْرَأَتَ لُوطٍ ۖ كَانَتَا تَحْتَ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا صَـٰلِحَيْنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمْ يُغْنِيَا عَنْهُمَا مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا وَقِيلَ ٱدْخُلَا ٱلنَّارَ مَعَ ٱلدَّٰخِلِينَ
ضَرَبَ
ḍaraba
Presents
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
مَثَلًا
mathalan
an example
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
for those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieved
ٱمْرَأَتَ
im'ra-ata
(the) wife
نُوحٍ
nūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَٱمْرَأَتَ
wa-im'ra-ata
(and the) wife
لُوطٍ
lūṭin
(of) Lut
كَانَتَا
kānatā
They were
تَحْتَ
taḥta
under
عَبْدَيْنِ
ʿabdayni
two [slaves]
مِنْ
min
of
عِبَادِنَا
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
صَـٰلِحَيْنِ
ṣāliḥayni
righteous
فَخَانَتَاهُمَا
fakhānatāhumā
but they both betrayed them
فَلَمْ
falam
so not
يُغْنِيَا
yugh'niyā
they availed
عَنْهُمَا
ʿanhumā
both of them
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
شَيْـًٔا
shayan
(in) anything
وَقِيلَ
waqīla
and it was said
ٱدْخُلَا
ud'khulā
Enter
ٱلنَّارَ
l-nāra
the Fire
مَعَ
maʿa
with
ٱلدَّٰخِلِينَ
l-dākhilīna
those who enter
Allāh presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them,1 so they [i.e., those prophets] did not avail them from Allāh at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."

66:11
Ayah 66:11
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱمْرَأَتَ فِرْعَوْنَ إِذْ قَالَتْ رَبِّ ٱبْنِ لِى عِندَكَ بَيْتًا فِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ وَنَجِّنِى مِن فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِۦ وَنَجِّنِى مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
وَضَرَبَ
waḍaraba
And presents
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
مَثَلًا
mathalan
an example
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna
for those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
ٱمْرَأَتَ
im'ra-ata
(the) wife
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
إِذْ
idh
when
قَالَتْ
qālat
she said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
ٱبْنِ
ib'ni
Build
لِى
for me
عِندَكَ
ʿindaka
near You
بَيْتًا
baytan
a house
فِى
in
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati
Paradise
وَنَجِّنِى
wanajjinī
and save me
مِن
min
from
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَعَمَلِهِۦ
waʿamalihi
and his deeds
وَنَجِّنِى
wanajjinī
and save me
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmi
the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
And Allāh presents an example of those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, "My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people."

66:12
Ayah 66:12
وَمَرْيَمَ ٱبْنَتَ عِمْرَٰنَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَ
وَمَرْيَمَ
wamaryama
And Maryam
ٱبْنَتَ
ib'nata
(the) daughter
عِمْرَٰنَ
ʿim'rāna
(of) Imran
ٱلَّتِىٓ
allatī
who
أَحْصَنَتْ
aḥṣanat
guarded
فَرْجَهَا
farjahā
her chastity
فَنَفَخْنَا
fanafakhnā
so We breathed
فِيهِ
fīhi
into it
مِن
min
of
رُّوحِنَا
rūḥinā
Our Spirit
وَصَدَّقَتْ
waṣaddaqat
And she believed
بِكَلِمَـٰتِ
bikalimāti
(in the) Words
رَبِّهَا
rabbihā
(of) her Lord
وَكُتُبِهِۦ
wakutubihi
and His Books
وَكَانَتْ
wakānat
and she was
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَ
l-qānitīna
the devoutly obedient
And [the example of] Mary, the daughter of ʿImrān, who guarded her chastity, so We blew into [her garment] through Our angel [i.e., Gabriel], and she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.
