71:1
Ayah 71:1
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
إِنَّآ
innā
Indeed, We
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnā
[We] sent
نُوحًا
nūḥan
Nuh
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
قَوْمِهِۦٓ
qawmihi
his people
أَنْ
an
that
أَنذِرْ
andhir
Warn
قَوْمَكَ
qawmaka
your people
مِن
min
from
قَبْلِ
qabli
before
أَن
an
[that]
يَأْتِيَهُمْ
yatiyahum
comes to them
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābun
a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
alīmun
painful
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."

71:2
Ayah 71:2
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
قَالَ
qāla
He said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmi
O my people
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I am
لَكُمْ
lakum
to you
نَذِيرٌ
nadhīrun
a warner
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnun
clear
He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -

71:3
Ayah 71:3
أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ
أَنِ
ani
That
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budū
Worship
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha
Allah
وَٱتَّقُوهُ
wa-ittaqūhu
and fear Him
وَأَطِيعُونِ
wa-aṭīʿūni
and obey me
To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.

71:4
Ayah 71:4
يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
يَغْفِرْ
yaghfir
He will forgive
لَكُم
lakum
for you
مِّن
min
[of]
ذُنُوبِكُمْ
dhunūbikum
your sins
وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ
wayu-akhir'kum
and give you respite
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
for
أَجَلٍ
ajalin
a term
مُّسَمًّى
musamman
specified
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
أَجَلَ
ajala
(the) term
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
(of) Allah
إِذَا
idhā
when
جَآءَ
jāa
it comes
لَا
lā
not
يُؤَخَّرُ
yu-akharu
is delayed
لَوْ
law
if
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūna
know
He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."

71:5
Ayah 71:5
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا
قَالَ
qāla
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
إِنِّى
innī
Indeed, I
دَعَوْتُ
daʿawtu
invited
قَوْمِى
qawmī
my people
لَيْلًا
laylan
night
وَنَهَارًا
wanahāran
and day
He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.

71:6
Ayah 71:6
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا
فَلَمْ
falam
But not
يَزِدْهُمْ
yazid'hum
increased them
دُعَآءِىٓ
duʿāī
my invitation
إِلَّا
illā
except
فِرَارًا
firāran
(in) flight
But my invitation increased them not except in flight [i.e., aversion].

71:7
Ayah 71:7
وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ ٱسْتِكْبَارًا
وَإِنِّى
wa-innī
And indeed, I
كُلَّمَا
kullamā
every time
دَعَوْتُهُمْ
daʿawtuhum
I invited them
لِتَغْفِرَ
litaghfira
that You may forgive
لَهُمْ
lahum
them
جَعَلُوٓا۟
jaʿalū
they put
أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ
aṣābiʿahum
their fingers
فِىٓ
fī
in
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
ādhānihim
their ears
وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟
wa-is'taghshaw
and covered themselves
ثِيَابَهُمْ
thiyābahum
(with) their garments
وَأَصَرُّوا۟
wa-aṣarrū
and persisted
وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
wa-is'takbarū
and were arrogant
ٱسْتِكْبَارًا
is'tik'bāran
(with) pride
And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments,1 persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.

71:8
Ayah 71:8
ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِنِّى
innī
indeed, I
دَعَوْتُهُمْ
daʿawtuhum
invited them
جِهَارًا
jihāran
publicly
Then I invited them publicly.

71:9
Ayah 71:9
ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِنِّىٓ
innī
indeed, I
أَعْلَنتُ
aʿlantu
announced
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
وَأَسْرَرْتُ
wa-asrartu
and I confided
لَهُمْ
lahum
to them
إِسْرَارًا
is'rāran
secretly
Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly

71:10
Ayah 71:10
فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا
فَقُلْتُ
faqul'tu
Then I said
ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟
is'taghfirū
Ask forgiveness
رَبَّكُمْ
rabbakum
(from) your Lord
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, He
كَانَ
kāna
is
غَفَّارًا
ghaffāran
Oft-Forgiving
And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.

71:11
Ayah 71:11
يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا
يُرْسِلِ
yur'sili
He will send down
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
l-samāa
(rain from) the sky
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykum
upon you
مِّدْرَارًا
mid'rāran
(in) abundance
He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers

71:12
Ayah 71:12
وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًا
وَيُمْدِدْكُم
wayum'did'kum
And provide you
بِأَمْوَٰلٍ
bi-amwālin
with wealth
وَبَنِينَ
wabanīna
and children
وَيَجْعَل
wayajʿal
and make
لَّكُمْ
lakum
for you
جَنَّـٰتٍ
jannātin
gardens
وَيَجْعَل
wayajʿal
and make
لَّكُمْ
lakum
for you
أَنْهَـٰرًا
anhāran
rivers
And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.

71:13
Ayah 71:13
مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا
مَّا
mā
What
لَكُمْ
lakum
(is) for you
لَا
lā
not
تَرْجُونَ
tarjūna
you attribute
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
to Allah
وَقَارًا
waqāran
grandeur
What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allāh [due] grandeur

71:14
Ayah 71:14
وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا
وَقَدْ
waqad
And indeed
خَلَقَكُمْ
khalaqakum
He created you
أَطْوَارًا
aṭwāran
(in) stages
While He has created you in stages?1

71:15
Ayah 71:15
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا
أَلَمْ
alam
Do not
تَرَوْا۟
taraw
you see
كَيْفَ
kayfa
how
خَلَقَ
khalaqa
did create
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
سَبْعَ
sabʿa
(the) seven
سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ
samāwātin
heavens
طِبَاقًا
ṭibāqan
(in) layers
Do you not consider how Allāh has created seven heavens in layers1

71:16
Ayah 71:16
وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا
وَجَعَلَ
wajaʿala
And made
ٱلْقَمَرَ
l-qamara
the moon
فِيهِنَّ
fīhinna
therein
نُورًا
nūran
a light
وَجَعَلَ
wajaʿala
and made
ٱلشَّمْسَ
l-shamsa
the sun
سِرَاجًا
sirājan
a lamp
And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?

71:17
Ayah 71:17
وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
أَنۢبَتَكُم
anbatakum
has caused you to grow
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
نَبَاتًا
nabātan
(as) a growth
And Allāh has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.

71:18
Ayah 71:18
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
يُعِيدُكُمْ
yuʿīdukum
He will return you
فِيهَا
fīhā
into it
وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ
wayukh'rijukum
and bring you forth
إِخْرَاجًا
ikh'rājan
(a new) bringing forth
Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction.

71:19
Ayah 71:19
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
جَعَلَ
jaʿala
made
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍa
the earth
بِسَاطًا
bisāṭan
an expanse
And Allāh has made for you the earth an expanse
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
71:20
Ayah 71:20
لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا
لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟
litaslukū
That you may go along
مِنْهَا
min'hā
therein
سُبُلًا
subulan
(in) paths
فِجَاجًا
fijājan
wide
That you may follow therein roads of passage.'"

71:21
Ayah 71:21
قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
قَالَ
qāla
Said
نُوحٌ
nūḥun
Nuh
رَّبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they
عَصَوْنِى
ʿaṣawnī
disobeyed me
وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟
wa-ittabaʿū
and followed
مَن
man
(the one) who
لَّمْ
lam
(did) not
يَزِدْهُ
yazid'hu
increase him
مَالُهُۥ
māluhu
his wealth
وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ
wawaladuhu
and his children
إِلَّا
illā
except
خَسَارًا
khasāran
(in) loss
Noah said, "My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.

71:22
Ayah 71:22
وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا
وَمَكَرُوا۟
wamakarū
And they have planned
مَكْرًا
makran
a plan
كُبَّارًا
kubbāran
great
And they conspired an immense conspiracy

71:23
Ayah 71:23
وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālū
And they said
لَا
lā
(Do) not
تَذَرُنَّ
tadharunna
leave
ءَالِهَتَكُمْ
ālihatakum
your gods
وَلَا
walā
and (do) not
تَذَرُنَّ
tadharunna
leave
وَدًّا
waddan
Wadd
وَلَا
walā
and not
سُوَاعًا
suwāʿan
Suwa
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَغُوثَ
yaghūtha
Yaguth
وَيَعُوقَ
wayaʿūqa
and Yauq
وَنَسْرًا
wanasran
and Nasr
And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwāʿ or Yaghūth and Yaʿūq and Nasr.'1

71:24
Ayah 71:24
وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَـٰلًا
وَقَدْ
waqad
And indeed
أَضَلُّوا۟
aḍallū
they have led astray
كَثِيرًا
kathīran
many
وَلَا
walā
And not
تَزِدِ
tazidi
increase
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
إِلَّا
illā
except
ضَلَـٰلًا
ḍalālan
(in) error
And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error."

71:25
Ayah 71:25
مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارًا
مِّمَّا
mimmā
Because of
خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ
khaṭīātihim
their sins
أُغْرِقُوا۟
ugh'riqū
they were drowned
فَأُدْخِلُوا۟
fa-ud'khilū
then made to enter
نَارًا
nāran
(the) Fire
فَلَمْ
falam
and not
يَجِدُوا۟
yajidū
they found
لَهُم
lahum
for themselves
مِّن
min
from
دُونِ
dūni
besides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi
Allah
أَنصَارًا
anṣāran
any helpers
Because of their sins they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allāh [any] helpers.

71:26
Ayah 71:26
وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا
وَقَالَ
waqāla
And said
نُوحٌ
nūḥun
Nuh
رَّبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
لَا
lā
(Do) not
تَذَرْ
tadhar
leave
عَلَى
ʿalā
on
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi
the earth
مِنَ
mina
any
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna
(of) the disbelievers
دَيَّارًا
dayyāran
(as) an inhabitant
And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.

71:27
Ayah 71:27
إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, You
إِن
in
if
تَذَرْهُمْ
tadharhum
You leave them
يُضِلُّوا۟
yuḍillū
they will mislead
عِبَادَكَ
ʿibādaka
Your slaves
وَلَا
walā
and not
يَلِدُوٓا۟
yalidū
they will beget
إِلَّا
illā
except
فَاجِرًا
fājiran
a wicked
كَفَّارًا
kaffāran
a disbeliever
Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever.

71:28
Ayah 71:28
رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا
رَّبِّ
rabbi
My Lord
ٱغْفِرْ
igh'fir
Forgive
لِى
lī
me
وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ
waliwālidayya
and my parents
وَلِمَن
waliman
and whoever
دَخَلَ
dakhala
enters
بَيْتِىَ
baytiya
my house
مُؤْمِنًا
mu'minan
a believer
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
walil'mu'minīna
and the believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ
wal-mu'mināti
and the believing women
وَلَا
walā
And (do) not
تَزِدِ
tazidi
increase
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
إِلَّا
illā
except
تَبَارًۢا
tabāran
(in) destruction
My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction."
