75:1
Ayah 75:1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
لَآ
Nay
أُقْسِمُ
uq'simu
I swear
بِيَوْمِ
biyawmi
by (the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
I swear by the Day of Resurrection

75:2
Ayah 75:2
وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
وَلَآ
walā
And nay
أُقْسِمُ
uq'simu
I swear
بِٱلنَّفْسِ
bil-nafsi
by the soul
ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
l-lawāmati
self-accusing
And I swear by the reproaching soul1 [to the certainty of resurrection].

75:3
Ayah 75:3
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
أَيَحْسَبُ
ayaḥsabu
Does think
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
[the] man
أَلَّن
allan
that not
نَّجْمَعَ
najmaʿa
We will assemble
عِظَامَهُۥ
ʿiẓāmahu
his bones
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

75:4
Ayah 75:4
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
بَلَىٰ
balā
Nay
قَـٰدِرِينَ
qādirīna
(We are) Able
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
on
أَن
an
that
نُّسَوِّىَ
nusawwiya
We can restore
بَنَانَهُۥ
banānahu
his fingertips
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

75:5
Ayah 75:5
بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
بَلْ
bal
Nay
يُرِيدُ
yurīdu
Desires
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
[the] man
لِيَفْجُرَ
liyafjura
to give (the) lie
أَمَامَهُۥ
amāmahu
(to) what is before him
But man desires to continue in sin.1

75:6
Ayah 75:6
يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
يَسْـَٔلُ
yasalu
He asks
أَيَّانَ
ayyāna
When
يَوْمُ
yawmu
(is the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

75:7
Ayah 75:7
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
So when
بَرِقَ
bariqa
is dazzled
ٱلْبَصَرُ
l-baṣaru
the vision
So when vision is dazzled.

75:8
Ayah 75:8
وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
وَخَسَفَ
wakhasafa
And becomes dark
ٱلْقَمَرُ
l-qamaru
the moon
And the moon darkens.

75:9
Ayah 75:9
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
وَجُمِعَ
wajumiʿa
And are joined
ٱلشَّمْسُ
l-shamsu
the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرُ
wal-qamaru
and the moon
And the sun and the moon are joined,

75:10
Ayah 75:10
يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
يَقُولُ
yaqūlu
Will say
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
[the] man
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
أَيْنَ
ayna
Where
ٱلْمَفَرُّ
l-mafaru
(is) the escape
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

75:11
Ayah 75:11
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
كَلَّا
kallā
By no means
لَا
(There is) no
وَزَرَ
wazara
refuge
No! There is no refuge.

75:12
Ayah 75:12
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
إِلَىٰ
ilā
To
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
l-mus'taqaru
(is) the place of rest
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

75:13
Ayah 75:13
يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
يُنَبَّؤُا۟
yunabba-u
Will be informed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
[the] man
يَوْمَئِذٍۭ
yawma-idhin
that Day
بِمَا
bimā
of what
قَدَّمَ
qaddama
he sent forth
وَأَخَّرَ
wa-akhara
and kept back
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead1 and kept back.2

75:14
Ayah 75:14
بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ
بَلِ
bali
Nay
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
[The] man
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
against
نَفْسِهِۦ
nafsihi
himself
بَصِيرَةٌ
baṣīratun
(will be) a witness
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,1

75:15
Ayah 75:15
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
وَلَوْ
walaw
Even if
أَلْقَىٰ
alqā
he presents
مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
maʿādhīrahu
his excuses
Even if he presents his excuses.

75:16
Ayah 75:16
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
لَا
Not
تُحَرِّكْ
tuḥarrik
move
بِهِۦ
bihi
with it
لِسَانَكَ
lisānaka
your tongue
لِتَعْجَلَ
litaʿjala
to hasten
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
with it
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muḥammad], to hasten with it [i.e., recitation of the Qur’ān].

75:17
Ayah 75:17
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā
upon Us
جَمْعَهُۥ
jamʿahu
(is) its collection
وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
waqur'ānahu
and its recitation
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.

75:18
Ayah 75:18
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
فَإِذَا
fa-idhā
And when
قَرَأْنَـٰهُ
qaranāhu
We have recited it
فَٱتَّبِعْ
fa-ittabiʿ
then follow
قُرْءَانَهُۥ
qur'ānahu
its recitation
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.

75:19
Ayah 75:19
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā
upon Us
بَيَانَهُۥ
bayānahu
(is) its explanation
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

75:20
Ayah 75:20
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
كَلَّا
kallā
No
بَلْ
bal
But
تُحِبُّونَ
tuḥibbūna
you love
ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
l-ʿājilata
the immediate
No! But you [i.e., mankind] love the immediate

75:21
Ayah 75:21
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
وَتَذَرُونَ
watadharūna
And leave
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
l-ākhirata
the Hereafter
And leave [i.e., neglect] the Hereafter.

75:22
Ayah 75:22
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ
وُجُوهٌ
wujūhun
Faces
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
نَّاضِرَةٌ
nāḍiratun
(will be) radiant
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

75:23
Ayah 75:23
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ
إِلَىٰ
ilā
Towards
رَبِّهَا
rabbihā
their Lord
نَاظِرَةٌ
nāẓiratun
looking
Looking at their Lord.1

75:24
Ayah 75:24
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ
وَوُجُوهٌ
wawujūhun
And faces
يَوْمَئِذٍۭ
yawma-idhin
that Day
بَاسِرَةٌ
bāsiratun
(will be) distorted
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

75:25
Ayah 75:25
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ
تَظُنُّ
taẓunnu
Thinking
أَن
an
that
يُفْعَلَ
yuf'ʿala
will be done
بِهَا
bihā
to them
فَاقِرَةٌ
fāqiratun
backbreaking
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.

75:26
Ayah 75:26
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
كَلَّآ
kallā
No
إِذَا
idhā
When
بَلَغَتِ
balaghati
it reaches
ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
l-tarāqiya
the collar bones
No! When it [i.e., the soul] has reached the collar bones1

75:27
Ayah 75:27
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ
وَقِيلَ
waqīla
And it is said
مَنْ
man
Who
رَاقٍ
rāqin
(will) cure
And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"

75:28
Ayah 75:28
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
وَظَنَّ
waẓanna
And he is certain
أَنَّهُ
annahu
that it
ٱلْفِرَاقُ
l-firāqu
(is) the parting
And he [i.e., the dying one] is certain that it is the [time of] separation

75:29
Ayah 75:29
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ
wal-tafati
And is wound
ٱلسَّاقُ
l-sāqu
the leg
بِٱلسَّاقِ
bil-sāqi
about the leg
And the leg is wound about the leg,1

75:30
Ayah 75:30
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
إِلَىٰ
ilā
To
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
ٱلْمَسَاقُ
l-masāqu
(will be) the driving
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.1

75:31
Ayah 75:31
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
فَلَا
falā
And not
صَدَّقَ
ṣaddaqa
he accepted (the) truth
وَلَا
walā
and not
صَلَّىٰ
ṣallā
he prayed
And he [i.e., the disbeliever] had not believed, nor had he prayed.

75:32
Ayah 75:32
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin
But
كَذَّبَ
kadhaba
he denied
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
watawallā
and turned away
But [instead], he denied and turned away.

75:33
Ayah 75:33
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
ذَهَبَ
dhahaba
he went
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أَهْلِهِۦ
ahlihi
his family
يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
yatamaṭṭā
swaggering
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].

75:34
Ayah 75:34
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
أَوْلَىٰ
awlā
Woe
لَكَ
laka
to you
فَأَوْلَىٰ
fa-awlā
and woe
Woe to you, and woe!
— The Clear Quran, Dr. Mustafa Khattab
75:35
Ayah 75:35
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
أَوْلَىٰ
awlā
woe
لَكَ
laka
to you
فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
fa-awlā
and woe
Then woe to you, and woe!

75:36
Ayah 75:36
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
أَيَحْسَبُ
ayaḥsabu
Does think
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
man
أَن
an
that
يُتْرَكَ
yut'raka
he will be left
سُدًى
sudan
neglected
Does man think that he will be left neglected?1

75:37
Ayah 75:37
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ
أَلَمْ
alam
Was not
يَكُ
yaku
he
نُطْفَةً
nuṭ'fatan
a semen-drop
مِّن
min
of
مَّنِىٍّ
maniyyin
semen
يُمْنَىٰ
yum'nā
emitted
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

75:38
Ayah 75:38
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
كَانَ
kāna
he was
عَلَقَةً
ʿalaqatan
a clinging substance
فَخَلَقَ
fakhalaqa
then He created
فَسَوَّىٰ
fasawwā
and proportioned
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allāh] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

75:39
Ayah 75:39
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
فَجَعَلَ
fajaʿala
Then made
مِنْهُ
min'hu
of him
ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ
l-zawjayni
two kinds
ٱلذَّكَرَ
l-dhakara
(the) male
وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
wal-unthā
and the female
And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

75:40
Ayah 75:40
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
أَلَيْسَ
alaysa
Is not
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
[that]
بِقَـٰدِرٍ
biqādirin
(He) Able
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā
[over]
أَن
an
to
يُحْـِۧىَ
yuḥ'yiya
give life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
l-mawtā
(to) the dead
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
