83:1
Ayah 83:1
وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
وَيْلٌ
waylun
Woe
لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
lil'muṭaffifīna
to those who give less
Woe to those who give less [than due],1

83:2
Ayah 83:2
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
إِذَا
idhā
when
ٱكْتَالُوا۟
ik'tālū
they take a measure
عَلَى
ʿalā
from
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi
the people
يَسْتَوْفُونَ
yastawfūna
they take in full
Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.

83:3
Ayah 83:3
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
But when
كَالُوهُمْ
kālūhum
they give by measure (to) them
أَو
aw
or
وَّزَنُوهُمْ
wazanūhum
they weigh (for) them
يُخْسِرُونَ
yukh'sirūna
they give less
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.

83:4
Ayah 83:4
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ
أَلَا
alā
Do not
يَظُنُّ
yaẓunnu
think
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika
those
أَنَّهُم
annahum
that they
مَّبْعُوثُونَ
mabʿūthūna
(will be) resurrected
Do they not think that they will be resurrected

Ayah 83:5
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
لِيَوْمٍ
liyawmin
For a Day
عَظِيمٍ
ʿaẓīmin
Great
For a tremendous Day -

Ayah 83:6
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
يَوْمَ
yawma
(The) Day
يَقُومُ
yaqūmu
will stand
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsu
mankind
لِرَبِّ
lirabbi
before (the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

83:7
Ayah 83:7
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ
كَلَّآ
kallā
Nay
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
كِتَـٰبَ
kitāba
(the) record
ٱلْفُجَّارِ
l-fujāri
(of) the wicked
لَفِى
lafī
(is) surely in
سِجِّينٍ
sijjīnin
Sijjin
No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

83:8
Ayah 83:8
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
وَمَآ
wamā
And what
أَدْرَىٰكَ
adrāka
can make you know
مَا
what
سِجِّينٌ
sijjīnun
(is) Sijjin
And what can make you know what is sijjeen?

83:9
Ayah 83:9
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
كِتَـٰبٌ
kitābun
A book
مَّرْقُومٌ
marqūmun
written
It is [their destination1 recorded in] a register inscribed.

83:10
Ayah 83:10
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌ
waylun
Woe
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
lil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers,

83:11
Ayah 83:11
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
يُكَذِّبُونَ
yukadhibūna
deny
بِيَوْمِ
biyawmi
(the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīni
(of) the Judgment
Who deny the Day of Recompense.

83:12
Ayah 83:12
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
وَمَا
wamā
And not
يُكَذِّبُ
yukadhibu
can deny
بِهِۦٓ
bihi
[of] it
إِلَّا
illā
except
كُلُّ
kullu
every
مُعْتَدٍ
muʿ'tadin
transgressor
أَثِيمٍ
athīmin
sinful
And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

83:13
Ayah 83:13
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
إِذَا
idhā
When
تُتْلَىٰ
tut'lā
are recited
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
ءَايَـٰتُنَا
āyātunā
Our Verses
قَالَ
qāla
he says
أَسَـٰطِيرُ
asāṭīru
Stories
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

83:14
Ayah 83:14
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
كَلَّا
kallā
Nay
بَلْ
bal
But
رَانَ
rāna
(the) stain has covered
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
[over]
قُلُوبِهِم
qulūbihim
their hearts
مَّا
(for) what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used to
يَكْسِبُونَ
yaksibūna
earn
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.1

83:15
Ayah 83:15
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
كَلَّآ
kallā
Nay
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
Indeed, they
عَن
ʿan
from
رَّبِّهِمْ
rabbihim
their Lord
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
that Day
لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
lamaḥjūbūna
surely will be partitioned
No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.1

83:16
Ayah 83:16
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِنَّهُمْ
innahum
indeed, they
لَصَالُوا۟
laṣālū
(surely) will burn
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
l-jaḥīmi
(in) the Hellfire
Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.

83:17
Ayah 83:17
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
يُقَالُ
yuqālu
it will be said
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
This
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī
(is) what
كُنتُم
kuntum
you used to
بِهِۦ
bihi
[of it]
تُكَذِّبُونَ
tukadhibūna
deny
Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."

83:18
Ayah 83:18
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ
كَلَّآ
kallā
Nay
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
كِتَـٰبَ
kitāba
(the) record
ٱلْأَبْرَارِ
l-abrāri
(of) the righteous
لَفِى
lafī
(will be) surely in
عِلِّيِّينَ
ʿilliyyīna
Illiyin
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ʿilliyyūn.

83:19
Ayah 83:19
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
وَمَآ
wamā
And what
أَدْرَىٰكَ
adrāka
can make you know
مَا
what
عِلِّيُّونَ
ʿilliyyūna
(is) Illiyun
And what can make you know what is ʿilliyyūn?

83:20
Ayah 83:20
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
كِتَـٰبٌ
kitābun
A book
مَّرْقُومٌ
marqūmun
written
It is [their destination1 recorded in] a register inscribed

83:21
Ayah 83:21
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
يَشْهَدُهُ
yashhaduhu
Witness it
ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
l-muqarabūna
those brought near
Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allāh].

83:22
Ayah 83:22
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلْأَبْرَارَ
l-abrāra
the righteous
لَفِى
lafī
(will be) surely in
نَعِيمٍ
naʿīmin
bliss
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

83:23
Ayah 83:23
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
عَلَى
ʿalā
On
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ
l-arāiki
thrones
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
observing
On adorned couches, observing.

83:24
Ayah 83:24
تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
تَعْرِفُ
taʿrifu
You will recognize
فِى
in
وُجُوهِهِمْ
wujūhihim
their faces
نَضْرَةَ
naḍrata
(the) radiance
ٱلنَّعِيمِ
l-naʿīmi
(of) bliss
You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

83:25
Ayah 83:25
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ
يُسْقَوْنَ
yus'qawna
They will be given to drink
مِن
min
of
رَّحِيقٍ
raḥīqin
a pure wine
مَّخْتُومٍ
makhtūmin
sealed
They will be given to drink [pure] wine1 [which was] sealed.

83:26
Ayah 83:26
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ
khitāmuhu
Its seal
مِسْكٌ
mis'kun
(will be of) musk
وَفِى
wafī
And for
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālika
that
فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ
falyatanāfasi
let aspire
ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ
l-mutanāfisūna
the aspirers
The last of it1 is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.

83:27
Ayah 83:27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ
wamizājuhu
And its mixture
مِن
min
(is) of
تَسْنِيمٍ
tasnīmin
Tasneem
And its mixture is of Tasneem,1

83:28
Ayah 83:28
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
عَيْنًا
ʿaynan
A spring
يَشْرَبُ
yashrabu
will drink
بِهَا
bihā
from it
ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
l-muqarabūna
those brought near
A spring from which those near [to Allāh] drink.

83:29
Ayah 83:29
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
أَجْرَمُوا۟
ajramū
committed crimes
كَانُوا۟
kānū
used to
مِنَ
mina
at
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
يَضْحَكُونَ
yaḍḥakūna
laugh
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

83:30
Ayah 83:30
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
مَرُّوا۟
marrū
they passed
بِهِمْ
bihim
by them
يَتَغَامَزُونَ
yataghāmazūna
they winked at one another
And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

83:31
Ayah 83:31
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟
inqalabū
they returned
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أَهْلِهِمُ
ahlihimu
their people
ٱنقَلَبُوا۟
inqalabū
they would return
فَكِهِينَ
fakihīna
jesting
And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

83:32
Ayah 83:32
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
رَأَوْهُمْ
ra-awhum
they saw them
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
they said
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāi
these
لَضَآلُّونَ
laḍāllūna
surely have gone astray
And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

83:33
Ayah 83:33
وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ
وَمَآ
wamā
But not
أُرْسِلُوا۟
ur'silū
they had been sent
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim
over them
حَـٰفِظِينَ
ḥāfiẓīna
(as) guardians
But they had not been sent as guardians over them.

83:34
Ayah 83:34
فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
فَٱلْيَوْمَ
fal-yawma
So today
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believed
مِنَ
mina
at
ٱلْكُفَّارِ
l-kufāri
the disbelievers
يَضْحَكُونَ
yaḍḥakūna
they will laugh
So Today1 those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,

83:35
Ayah 83:35
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
عَلَى
ʿalā
On
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ
l-arāiki
the thrones
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūna
observing
On adorned couches, observing.

83:36
Ayah 83:36
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
هَلْ
hal
Have (not)
ثُوِّبَ
thuwwiba
been rewarded
ٱلْكُفَّارُ
l-kufāru
the disbelievers
مَا
(for) what
كَانُوا۟
kānū
they used to
يَفْعَلُونَ
yafʿalūna
do
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
