84:1
Ayah 84:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ
إِذَا
idhā
When
ٱلسَّمَآءُ
l-samāu
the sky
ٱنشَقَّتْ
inshaqqat
is split asunder
When the sky has split [open]

84:2
Ayah 84:2
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
وَأَذِنَتْ
wa-adhinat
And has listened
لِرَبِّهَا
lirabbihā
to its Lord
وَحُقَّتْ
waḥuqqat
and was obligated
And has listened [i.e., responded]1 to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

84:3
Ayah 84:3
وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
ٱلْأَرْضُ
l-arḍu
the earth
مُدَّتْ
muddat
is spread
And when the earth has been extended1

84:4
Ayah 84:4
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
وَأَلْقَتْ
wa-alqat
And has cast out
مَا
what
فِيهَا
fīhā
(is) in it
وَتَخَلَّتْ
watakhallat
and becomes empty
And has cast out that within it1 and relinquished [it].

84:5
Ayah 84:5
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
وَأَذِنَتْ
wa-adhinat
And has listened
لِرَبِّهَا
lirabbihā
to its Lord
وَحُقَّتْ
waḥuqqat
and was obligated
And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

84:6
Ayah 84:6
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhā
O
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānu
mankind
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed, you
كَادِحٌ
kādiḥun
(are) laboring
إِلَىٰ
ilā
to
رَبِّكَ
rabbika
your Lord
كَدْحًا
kadḥan
(with) exertion
فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ
famulāqīhi
and you (will) meet Him
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion1 and will meet it.2

84:7
Ayah 84:7
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ
فَأَمَّا
fa-ammā
Then as for
مَنْ
man
(him) who
أُوتِىَ
ūtiya
is given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ
kitābahu
his record
بِيَمِينِهِۦ
biyamīnihi
in his right (hand)
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

84:8
Ayah 84:8
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
Then soon
يُحَاسَبُ
yuḥāsabu
his account will be taken
حِسَابًا
ḥisāban
an account
يَسِيرًا
yasīran
easy
He will be judged with an easy account

84:9
Ayah 84:9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
وَيَنقَلِبُ
wayanqalibu
And he will return
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā
to
أَهْلِهِۦ
ahlihi
his people
مَسْرُورًا
masrūran
happily
And return to his people in happiness.

84:10
Ayah 84:10
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ
وَأَمَّا
wa-ammā
But as for
مَنْ
man
(him) who
أُوتِىَ
ūtiya
is given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ
kitābahu
his record
وَرَآءَ
warāa
behind
ظَهْرِهِۦ
ẓahrihi
his back
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

84:11
Ayah 84:11
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfa
Then soon
يَدْعُوا۟
yadʿū
he will call
ثُبُورًا
thubūran
(for) destruction
He will cry out for destruction

84:12
Ayah 84:12
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
وَيَصْلَىٰ
wayaṣlā
And he will burn
سَعِيرًا
saʿīran
(in) a Blaze
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

84:13
Ayah 84:13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
كَانَ
kāna
had been
فِىٓ
among
أَهْلِهِۦ
ahlihi
his people
مَسْرُورًا
masrūran
happy
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

84:14
Ayah 84:14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
إِنَّهُۥ
innahu
Indeed, he
ظَنَّ
ẓanna
(had) thought
أَن
an
that
لَّن
lan
never
يَحُورَ
yaḥūra
he would return
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].

84:15
Ayah 84:15
بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا
بَلَىٰٓ
balā
Yes
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu
his Lord
كَانَ
kāna
was
بِهِۦ
bihi
of him
بَصِيرًا
baṣīran
All-Seer
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.

84:16
Ayah 84:16
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ
فَلَآ
falā
But nay
أُقْسِمُ
uq'simu
I swear
بِٱلشَّفَقِ
bil-shafaqi
by the twilight glow
So I swear by the twilight glow

84:17
Ayah 84:17
وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
وَٱلَّيْلِ
wa-al-layli
And the night
وَمَا
wamā
and what
وَسَقَ
wasaqa
it envelops
And [by] the night and what it envelops

84:18
Ayah 84:18
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ
وَٱلْقَمَرِ
wal-qamari
And the moon
إِذَا
idhā
when
ٱتَّسَقَ
ittasaqa
it becomes full
And [by] the moon when it becomes full

84:19
Ayah 84:19
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ
latarkabunna
You will surely embark
طَبَقًا
ṭabaqan
(to) stage
عَن
ʿan
from
طَبَقٍ
ṭabaqin
stage
[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.1

84:20
Ayah 84:20
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
فَمَا
famā
So what
لَهُمْ
lahum
(is) for them
لَا
not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūna
they believe
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

84:21
Ayah 84:21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
وَإِذَا
wa-idhā
And when
قُرِئَ
quri-a
is recited
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimu
to them
ٱلْقُرْءَانُ
l-qur'ānu
the Quran
لَا
not
يَسْجُدُونَ
yasjudūna
they prostrate
And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?

84:22
Ayah 84:22
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ
بَلِ
bali
Nay
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
Those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarū
disbelieved
يُكَذِّبُونَ
yukadhibūna
deny
But those who have disbelieved deny,

84:23
Ayah 84:23
وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu
(is) most knowing
بِمَا
bimā
of what
يُوعُونَ
yūʿūna
they keep within themselves
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

84:24
Ayah 84:24
فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
فَبَشِّرْهُم
fabashir'hum
so give them tidings
بِعَذَابٍ
biʿadhābin
of a punishment
أَلِيمٍ
alīmin
painful
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

84:25
Ayah 84:25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ
إِلَّا
illā
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilū
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
لَهُمْ
lahum
For them
أَجْرٌ
ajrun
(is) a reward
غَيْرُ
ghayru
never
مَمْنُونٍۭ
mamnūnin
ending
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
